Hi there.
As the title above, I am unable to install Spike CM7 using ROM Manager(Install from SD Card). It says "ROM Manager is unable to open this file. Please remove any spaces from your file and folder path. Or run it manually via ClockworkMod Recovery.
I have place the zip file like how i did for many other ROMs like ARHD, CoreDroid and LeeDroid's but only this time it pop up such queries.
Does it mean I must do it manually? Actually kinda afraid of doing it manually as I am not sure how to do it. Any thread for this manual installation?
Thanks.
Just remove the space.
If the zip is named ike this: spike cm7 just rename it to spike_cm7
Hi AA--92
Thanks. I managed to installed Spike into my device.
Oh btw, how do I delete this thread??
You don't
It will be pushed back in few mins lol if no one replies to it like I did now

Noob question...when installing a ROM on the Evo does the .zip file on the SD card have to be named PC36IMG? For instance, if I download Fresh, do I rename it PC36IMG to install it?
I didn't. That file was used when I first rooted the phone. After that, the name of the file didn't matter. Just as long as the extension was .zip.
Yeah, It can be named whatever, you just need to go into recovery and select the zip to be ran. Pretty simple.
Thanks for the replies. It turns out the problem was my Fresh 0.3 download was bad. A new download worked great.
hey i want to add some files like htc clock.apk and calculator.apk to N.S.A rom, so how do i go about it. Any help
Thank you.
unzip the ROM, add them to the app folder and rezip it and then flash the ROM (making sure the recovery utility you're using allows non-signed ROMs)
i am using clockworkmod recovery, does it allow flashing unsigned rom??
Thanks

Sorry, what does that means.
Yes, you have to remove the signing checking option in it (under advanced or something, have a play about)

It's a LOT easier to just do it yourself...
?
does this work for the captivate
Don't know, go ask in the captivate forum and not the Desire one
Hi all, i'm a new user and i have some trouble adding .apk's into cooked roms.
In particular, i'm trying to add some .apk into /system/app of InsertCoin Gingerbread 1.0.5
I have unzipped the rom, add those apk's, zipped again but when i flash it from recovery it says "Can't Find Update Script".

Don't(!) unzip the rom. Just open the archive using 7zip or winzip (or something like that; right-click zip and choose 'open archive'). Then just move apk to correct folder. If you're taking apk's from another rom, open that using 7zip as well. Then, drag the program from one rom to the other. When you're finished and want to flash the rom, make sure you've disabled 'signature verification' in recovery (it is an option in recovery).
Thank you, i was able to flash my first "modded" version with different boot/down animation, Teeter game (i love it) and Titanium Backup
The only thing i was not able to do was Root Explorer, i tried to put it in system/app and in data/app but when i flash rom it doesn't appear in the drawer.
Any suggestion?

I have been learning how to do this in the last few days and have had similar issues as you. I can get some to install fine and appear in the drawer but not all.
I have only been adding the apk's to system/app and not data/app. Should the apk's be added to one of these, both of them or another folder completely?
Can anyone help the two of us out?
I used apk swapper but all the apps are not working
Are there any flashable boot animations for the DHD?
and in particular, the droid x boot?
if there isn't could someone please tell me how to change mine to this? with links to the files? or a link to a flashable zip?
You don't need to flash them... just use Root Explorer and drop "bootanimation.zip" in \data\local
For the actual animations just search the Themes section in the Desire HD forum. You can also look in the Themes sections for original Desire as most of them should work too. I'm sure someone will have ported the Droid X one, if not try looking in the Themes sections of the Droid X forum... you get the idea

Extract the zip file for the boot sound as it's the .mp3 you need to use. Bootanim stays as .zip
Reply back know how you get on / if you need any help etc.
Oh, and be sure to press the "Mount R/W" when in the correct folder in Root Explorer. Wont let you change anything otherwise

wow I feel stupid. I was using the temp files from the top of the list in my sdcard XD thank you.
oh wait it didn't work xD I have bootanimation.zip and android_audio.mp3 in data/ local and it doesn't work. i've rebooted twice since they've been there. what else am I doing wrong ?
Try the two files I have attached and see if they work. You will need to extract the zip for the start sound as it wouldn't let me attach the mp3. Also, you will have to rename the other zip from black_bootanimation.zip to bootanimation.zip. I have loads of them so need to keep the file names different.
Reboot and they should work
Still no luck. even with your files, in data/local with r/w it just won't work? is it something to do with me being on the stock rom, kernel and radio?
I don't know but this is really weird ? could it be a permissions thing? thank you so much for trying to help me though.
it couldn't be that i'm using a mac could it?
No probs man
I've never had a poke around inside a stock ROM for DHD but I expect the files still go in the same place, so it must be a permissions thing as I doubt it would be radio or kernal related.
Silly question I should have maybe asked earlier... you have a rooted phone right? If not none of this will work!
As for a being on a Mac, shouldn't make a difference as you can transfer all the stuff to /data/local/ on your phone... only need a computer to put the files on your SD card if you didn't download them with your phone.
haha yes my phone is definitely rooted, I'm pretty sure I have radio and engineering S-OFF, I had SHIP, now I have ENG, I would really like to know what the problem is though.
would it be possible to fix the permissions ? should I use rom manager to fix them ? or do it manually in root explorer?
If it is a permission problem, rom manager's fix permissions option did not solve the problem.
It would be so much easier just having a flashable zip xD
You could give it a go with ROM Manager yeah.
I must admit, I'm stumped with this! I bet it's something really easy that we're both overlooking!
rom manager didn't work.
it has to be something obvious. I would flash a new rom, but then I need to flash a new radio, because last time I ran leedroid, and android revolution HD, my microphone wouldn't work so I had to restore my backup.
having to do all that just for a boot animation and sound would be such a pain.
Well I'm going to sleep, most likely, and hopefully someone will have worked something out by the time i get back or wake up.
You could push it with adb.

Yeah, that's definitely another option.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Or another option is that your current rom just does not read bootanimation from /data/local/. Try it with custom rom, or put it to /system/.. I do not remember which folder. But look for bootanimation.zip.

I found bootanimation, not .zip but i can't make the system file r/w only r/o
after much trial and error, i found it at last....
@P1xelVandal in case you had not installed any custom ROM then the original bootanimation.zip can be found in the following location:
/system/customize/resource
Rename the original one to bootanimation_bak.zip before replacing in case any error occurs.
And, of course, you have to mount the file system in R/W mode for the changes to take place.. worked fine for me... piece of cake now.
Bump...
I've also just read somewhere that you could try /system/customize/resource/
Let us know how you get on mate
I gave up and flashed a radio and Android Revolution HD. It works fine now. Thank you for helping

Hi Guys,
Please help me.
I followed the steps in this site to install cyanogenmod 7.
(Xda won't let me post the site)
However, I am stuck in the last part. I did the back up and etc.
I am now in the reboot stage of Clockwork recovery.
However, when i selected install zip from sdcard ---> choose zip from sd card
the file cannot be found..
It says no files found.
Plz Help Thank you
Mike
Did you place the zip file on the root of your sd card & not inside a folder?
Sent from my Liquid Metal using XDA Premium App
It don't matter if its in a folder it not.. I always download straight from my phone and leave it in downloads folder.. also can be renamed after the date of a nandroid but make sure to add .stock or .rc4 or whatever.. no spaces and keep the dates, don't know about renaming the whole thing yet.. anyways, your problem seems odd

Put it in the root of your sd card make sure its a .zip and a problem I had waz there was a space at the end of .zip.but make sure that u have downloaded the whole rom I downloaded cm7 for the first time and almost bricked my phone cause I kept trying to flash part of a rom...tip: download file then download through a mirror (if provided) and check size of file.

okay guys this is my first android phone, first time rooting, first time for all of it basically.
i have a galaxy s3 i747m that i managed to root already. now i downloaded a ROM that i want and using android file exchange( I AM ON A MAC MAYBE MY PROBLEM?)
so i found the file on my mac, opended file exchange, put the file on my SD card.
now when i go into ROM manager i go to "install ROM from SD card" but it shows me everything thats on my phone not my SD card....i looked everywhere but the file is not there and i cant figure out why its doing this.
so i thought maybe if i save it to my phone i can find it,so i did that and i found the ROM file, but now when i open the file it just shows me
META-INF/ and system/ but on my computer it shows me something called BOOT.IMG.
im guessing this is the part of the file i need since nothing else works?
let me know guys im stuck, and sorry for the long post.
thanks guys!

DON'T touch this boot.img you taklking about.
Can you cannect phone by USB to your mac? ( sorry i'm PC guy). If you do just go open your phone with explorer in you mac then create folder on SD card "ROMS" in example , copy downloaded rom from your mac to phone this way you will know where it is. Now if you did not install CWM (clockwork mod recovery) install one from Rom Manager and reboot in it. Choose install from card and find roms folder you created and rom you copied in to folder choose this rom. Now follow instruction.
BTW. Before you start flashing roms READ more anthill you sure you know how is done for 100%. There are so many info how this should be done. READ this first :http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1725839 Twice if you have to.
Good luck
