If you have a working internet connection on your phone ... And you want to use that internet on your PC.
Then follow this steps ~
Install kies on your PC and connect your phone via USB ... Then on your phone go to
Settings > wireless and networking > tethering and portable hotspots > tick and activate USB tethering.
Your PC will be connected to the internet ... Just untick the USB tethering when you wanna disconnect.
Done

To use Kies in XP you need to install Microsoft dotNET 4 first. So, first install dotNet then install kies.
Ok so this definitely worked for me (Finally!), so I wrote down the exact steps I took so you can try it on your machine. I haven't installed anything different on my iMac like drivers for Samsung or whatnot, but I did have a functioning KIES prior to Mountain Lion update. I uninstalled KIES since receiving Mountain Lion since it stopped working for me.
- Download the latest version of Samsung Kies: http://www.samsung.com/ca/support/usefulsoftware/KIES/JSP
- Open the downloaded DMG
- Once you have the .Kies20mac_S8173.pkg file window with the "Uninstall.app", right click on the KIES20mac_S8173.pkg and open using "The Unarchiver" and extract to a folder (I created a KIES folder on my desktop)
- From here you will see a file called "contents.pkg", Right click and select "Show Package Contents"
- Double click "Payload", it will create a file called "Payload-1", (at least it did for me)
- double click "Payload-1" and it will create another file called "Payload-1-1"(the payload part seems to have just duplicated so you may only need to do this once. But keep opening until you see the Applications Folder)
- In "Payload-1-1" you'll find the Applications folder, within the Applications folder you'll see the "Kies.app".
- Transfer the Kies.App to the Applications folder and then run Kies.
Should work fine and should also detect your Galaxy S 3.
HOWEVER
If you already have KIES installed but doesn't detect your phone or keeps prompting for update, try this:
1) Open the Kies menu and select Preferences
2) Click on the Update tab at the end
3) Uncheck the 'Notify when updates are available'
4) Close and restart Kies.
5) Now try connecting your device.
Or try uninstalling your current installation of KIES and try following the steps I listed above.
FYI, I am running a rooted stock ROM for Rogers with Kalagas Theme installed.
I hope this works for you too
i will give this a shot tomorrow! hoping it works, is there a way to make android file transfer work?

I got it installed, but Kies refuses to detect my phone. I reinstalled drivers and still nothing. It says "connecting" but never connects.
I had this at first but I tried a different USB port and it eventually detected my phone. I also tried toggling Camera >< MTP
I also found that using a JellyBean ROM it has a harder time detecting, I oft have to reconnect my USB a couple of times.
I thought this had been confirmed to only work if you ALREADY had Kies installed before upgrading to ML?
I tried and it doesn't work on a new install.
WHat I did was install the latest Kies for the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and it worked perfectly fine for me, no modifications needed.
Link?
Cool now we just need a tutorial on getting kies to run on windows!
New Kies came out yesterday. the non working version found and update. It installs on Mountain Lion and works.

NEVERMIND
Hi, I got a update to my Note 16hrs ago, it failed to download OTA because I was not properly connected to my Wifi.
After that I downloaded Kies and connected my phone there and got a message that I had new updates to download, but when I press ok and the download starts (preparing to update) but gets stuck at 99%.
I have tried this several times now (first time ~12hrs ago) and I have rebooted both the computer and the note several times between and even re-installed kies without any luck.
If I search for updates in the phone it says that there are not any. I am waiting for the ~38mb big upload with MultiView.
Does anyone of you maybe know what is wrong? Thanks!

Go to settings then press add account. Make a Samsung account. Then try the OTA again.
If not, un install kies and go to to the directory that it installed in before. Delete that whole kies directory (there might be leftover files) then reboot your computer. Install kies again and give it a shot.

I un-installed Kies, deleted the entire Samsung folder, rebooted and installed it again, but still no luck.
Do you think that there is some kind of queue for the OTA update, since I got it once but could not download it because of the wifi and now I cant find it?
Possible. Another possibility is an error. The only way to confirm is to factory reset and try to ota again.

I finally fixed it. What I did was to deactivate my firewall and my anti-virus program and it worked. It must have been stopped by those somehow.
Thanks anyways for all the help!

There is a widely documented issue with this software and OS X Mountain Lion (10.8). It doesn't work. Thank goodness for dual booting windows 7 I suppose. It is pretty interesting that the latest Apple software prevents their biggest phone competitor from working properly.

My ML & Note 2 connects perfectly with each other. If you are having issues then try AirDroid from the Play store. There is no need to dual boot but to each their own.

Guys, AirDroid is great and all, but will not help much when it comes to transferring game and app files etc...
could not use Android File Transfer while Kies was installed. Simply dragging the app folder (Kies) to the trash won't fix the problem either. You have to download and run the Kies installer package but choose UNINSTALL when it starts and it will clean everything up for you. (I suppose there is an agent or two for Kies that is sitting out there.)
After that, AFT works great. (remember to bump up your device lock timeout though or it will disconnect on you if it locks during a transfer!

Yes, you can't have KIES installed for it to work. It was posted in #5 that KIES must be uninstalled. Sometimes it helps to read the whole thread when there are only a few pages to read. =)

Hi folks,
I used to own T-Mobile Note 2 which had Samsung Kies software that was great to transfer files via WiFi. However T-Mobile Note 3 doesn't have Kies software installed by default. I am wondering how do you guys transfer files via WiFi on Note 3.
Thanks!
I've always used ES File Explorer.

Thanks all! So it looks like Kies doesn't come preinstalled on the handset. Wonder why Samsung chose to do that. Anyways, another app that can be used is WiFi Transfer. I had purchased the pro version of it long time back and may reinstall it on Note 3.
lol why add all these apps when ES File Explorer will do it with pure ease and just about everyone already has it or Solid file explorer. Don't use apps to do when a regular file explorer is going to be able to do natively.
