XDA cooking bogging system down? - About xda-developers.com

Opps - meant cookies above.
I have noticed very sluggish responses on XDA last few weeks (on computer only). When I open or refresh a page, I see dozens of cookies (ad-ware, tracking, etc.) attempting to be set.
My spam filter blocks these, and this may cause the delay. Do you know of anything else that may be causing this?

[Q] Issues with sms.

im having odd issues with texting..
On using either the standard text app or handcent.
-When i open the program it takes 10-20 seconds to load.
-Clicking on a thread sometimes results in a completly different thread to open
-Sometimes threads take upwards of 20-30 seconds to open.
-When a text is received it takes 10-15 seconds to be able to reply or even use the phone.
Ive tried reflashing, wiping dalvik.

Do you have a bunch of text history on your phone? I found that if I have a bunch of stored texts, it slowed down the messaging app.

Yeah, i nearly never delete my texts. why should having a bunch of text slow down the program. this seems like something that should be resolved...
That sort of thing is a problem on pretty much every phone. If you want to resolve it, clear out some texts. If you think about it, it makes complete sense why it slows everything down. It's because the messaging app tries to load as many messages into memory as it possibly can, since it doesn't know if you're gonna go and try to look at an SMS from forever ago. Just like having a bunch of crap on your computer slows it down, same thing with a smartphone.
Sounds like the cache is gigantic...clear the cache from the applications menu, or delete some messages.
think of it this way.... we are carrying a flaghip phone for a company who is in the running for dominating the market. The average user does not delete their texts nor would they know how to.
This is an issue regarding both cache and application.
the resolve for this would create a simple script to archive texts for each user and archive each user past a page.
If indeed it is of course a text issue.
Deleting texts is for cheats and whores. i save all of mine to throw it in their face.
or is it more of an issue that the sprint developers cannot find a legitimate reason to push the text msg file to the sd card to help quicken the phone.
prior to me using an android based phone, texting was my addiction. Now, its a hassle. in the age that twitter and fb status breaks free, dont you think txts should be common place?

No, you should be using trillian or google talk by now, texting is for children.
You should write HTC a strongly worded letter for them to fix this outrage that every other smartphone ever has.

Being logged out automatically when replying

Hi,
I was just wondering if anyone else is getting this problem today or if it's just me.
I logged on this morning as I do everyday and when I tried replying to someone it told me I'm not logged in, so I typed in my details again and that same page continued to show until I shut my browser and opened another session. This let me log in but still when I try to reply to a post or even when I tried to view my control panel it logged me out and wouldn't allow me back in until I started a new browser session.
I've been monitoring it during my lunch time session and have had to close down and re-login multiple times but noticed also when looking through threads it was logging me out and in automatically from page to page.
I've tried both chrome and IE and both behave the same way. Thankfully I was able to post this so am hoping it stops doing it.
If it makes any difference I'm on the 2013 theme and I've never had this happen before today.
Thanks
I am using Firefox and I haven't seen that problem except at the very beginning of my time here last year, and then just a few times until it cleared up.

It seems when I have the "Remember me" box unchecked the problem arises but since ticking the box it isn't happening. I don't generally have remember me ticked while on work PC's but as said never happened before so hopefully just a glitch on my side.
Thanks
I am getting it too on my work PC (who knows what browser they use, it so filtered) but I also got that on my home PC (Firefox).
Frankly, it is making it unusable for me atm b/c I have to do all the steps you said above just to post. If I want to post multiple times in different threads, it can take more time to post the message than it did to type it. I've resorted to typing the message, then copying it and hitting post just to be kicked out, re-log in and clear caches/cookies and paste and post. It is a real PITA.
I've tried on 2010, 2013b and 2013b1024 just in case it was a theming issue. Am not having that problem on any other forums or outside internet sites that I have logged into but I have noticed it over the past two days, as well.

Did you try ticking "Remember me" when logging in as sorted it for me, I just had to remember to log out when I finished.
Well, let's see here.
Edit: No dice. Logged me out again. Tried it with Remember Me ticked and unticked.
Edit2: In fact, I just went to my tablet forums and it showed me as logged out. Then I clicked the XDA in the top corner to come back to this thread and it shows me as logged in. Must be ghosts in the machine.
Edit3: Now it is showing me as logged in right now, so I tried to go to the RC forums and got denied. Pulled up my phone forums in the Find Your Device (because I thought it might be something to do with my favorites/bookmarks) and it shows me as logged off. If I open the About XDA-Developers page, I am logged in.
Edit4: Sorry about these edits. I am only logged into THIS THREAD and not About XDA-Developers. I just got a PM and can't read it b/c it logs me out.
I've been experiencing this since Tuesday morning. Both in Chrome and Firefox. I've changed nothing and log in the same way as always. Happens when I try to reply and view my subscriptions. Tapatalk is the only way I can view and reply to anything right now.
Edit - this is happening both at home and work.

Same here guyz.... Have tried different browsers on different operating systems.... Same thing.... Anybody found the reason.... Or a solution?

This is happening to me too. I can get on once in every 100 attempts. I have tried everything, including changing browser, ip, computer, switching to xda 2010 and back, and ticking the remember me.
It's been happening to me for the last few days, I just ticked remember me, now I'm in for once!
The solution for this is to click the "Remember me" box when logging in. This is an issue that seems to have arisen due to a change in infrastructure on our end (I believe). It doesn't seem to impact all accounts however, just some of them.
If anyone has this issue after checking the "Remember me" box, please let me know.

Yes happening to me. If I clean everything in history of my browser, any browser, it logs me once. Immediately like I would post now it would log me out. It is happening in all the browsers with my account.
After getting logged out. When I again try to login, it would show a popup showing you are being logged in as nagpalkapil but would again not log e in and come out until I clean everything from history again including cookies etc. Has started happening for just last two days and was perfect before. Please help urgently on it.

Auto login doesn't work on XDA.

For the past few months XDA has started making me login every single time I visit the site. This is the case on multiple computers, including a new one purchased 3 days ago. I've tried various browsers and set every one of them to "remember password". Yet, no matter what computer I'm on or what browser I'm using I have to manually login each time.
I looked in settings and can't find any check box that might resolve this. At this point I don't know what to do and am looking for pointers. Any ideas?
But its working fine for me in Home & office.
Do u have the same issue with other websites?

I do not. All other forums have auto login working just fine. For some reason XDA is the only one that makes me constantly login. Obviously not a huge deal just annoying after a while.

Look at the bottom of the page. What theme is it using. I have this issue as well if I use any theme other then 2010
Works fine for me on Chrome, but not Firefox.
I have the same issue. Using Firefox (currently 20, but the problem was also with a few older versions) on Fedora Linux.
Using cookie manager, I see that the cookie for forum.xda-developers.com named "xdaloggedin" is set to expire In a short time (for example, currently it is set to expire on 2013/04/25:00:18:37.
Same symptoms here. Using Firefox 19. "xdaloggedin" cookie set to expire in 13 minutes, 26 seconds and counting...
Same issue here
Yesterday I was prompted to login to XDA twice. This morning I wasn't. There doesn't seem to be any consistency: yesterday it seems to have forgotten about me within an hour or so, yet it "remembered" me overnight...
Is there a contact we should be reporting this to, rather than mumping about it on a thread?
I'm going to flag an admin as I'm facing the same issue with Firefox
I've tried to recreate this (on Chrome/Firefox) but wasn't able to recreate any problem.
Make sure to check off the "Remember me" - this sets a cookie which should remember you after you close and reopen the browser. Otherwise you may be "logged out" after 15 minutes or when you close the browser, which is the session length.
Are you guys running any plugins that might be impacting this?

I get it as well but only when I use chrome. My default FF never did it unless I was using the new theme layout. As longer as I used one of the older theme's it never happens.

Maybe try deleting all your xda cookies and then logging in again. Could be a case of file corruption.
Chrome 28.0.1500.29 beta-m here.
After deleting browser cache and cookies I haven't been able to auto-login the forum anymore. Moreover I am unable to change the skin (it doesn't happen anything!) and I am unable to hide the menu on the right of the thread.
Thank you!
I am facing auto login even I close my chrome

[Bug] constant refresh when NoScript is OFF ?

Hello,
I use FireFox and NoScript, if I allow xda, the page constantly refreshes, I mean, refresh, refresh, no pauses.
Certainly I'm not the only one experiencing this?
Oh, I turned OFF Ghostery as well, same thing.
I use NoScript without problems. I have both xda-developers.com and googleapis.com (used for some JS stuff on the forums) enabled.
Are you sure it's not another addon conflicting? Try starting FF in safe mode, and enable addons one by one.
I have the same issue. I block all scripts on this site by default. However, if I let xda through, it just refreshes... refreshes... refreshes.

XDA pop up to malware site..ads

This annoying really, I know XDA needs to make money buy those pop redirect malware sites makes the whole XDA experience hell. It has happened couple of times were I automatically redirected and had to close that tab to get away from them. On Android it's worse as just navigating the xda-developers just redirect to this ads... please XDA those ads are annoying. Anyone seen this or its me
Yes, I've had this a couple of times. Pop-up window and a large alert box, also triggers haptic feedback and blocks use of the back button. Only ever seen this on XDA, too.
I appreciate that XDA needs to make money from advertising, but this why it's no real surprise that people turn to ad blockers.
This happened to me. It is off putting. Hopefully something gets resolved.
We 'forbid' popup ads, however sometimes they get through our ad partners' filters and show up on the site, hopefully not for long. If you ever see them, you can report them on the ad thread - if you have screenshots of the ad it helps.
Same here. Get some redirect with a pop up, and it vibrates my phone. You don't need a screenshot, just browse the forum with Chrome and no ad blocking, and you'll get hit. I also think it 'injects' something in chromes data as once I get hit here, I can browse other sites and get the same pop up until I clear Chromes data (losing my history and logins). I don't know what the pop up is because I don't take time to read it as it freaks me out and I close it.
I've been hit with ads like this a lot too. It's a shame there's no option in Chrome to disable vibration, it's super annoying.
+1
I am getting redirected like crazy today - its annoying!
Omg!
I was getting redirected 6 times trying to edit this post!
Fix it please!
And today no redirects but a lot of prompts from *.js files which wants to be opened.
This is the reason I only come here when I absolutely have to.
Don't use ads for revenue. You are literally being paid by malware distributors to infect users.
It's especially bad because it's a site about mobile, but you have to visit the site on a desktop with adblock, otherwise you risk becoming infected by a 0day.
Drop your ad network partner NOW, they clearly have no intention of cleaning up their act.
Not only are there spam ads, pop-ups, and redirects, the ads that dont take over make the page SUPER slow on a mobile. They eat up JS the performance.
It's time for a change.
Still a lot of .js files popping up wanting to be opened
Hello XDA admins - you are using a rogue advertiser who seems to want to infect my PC - wake up?!?
