[Q] need help getting S-ON / unroot - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After reading around all day I seem to be suffering the same problem that a growing number of individuals are experiencing, my phone froze and now it will not pass the HTC screen.
I have tried to flash a new rom - no success
I have re-flashed the recovery (v3.0.2.4) thru fastboot
I receive the following errors on recovery boot
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/command
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/log
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/last_log
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
I have formatted the SD card
I can't mount or format /data /cache or /system
All three partitions are blank thru ADB shell
I can't flash any backups (error formatting /system)
Using the factory reset option in fastboot only causes the phone to hang
I have my part7backup but it does not restore S-ON
I have tried to manually restore it using gfree as well to no success
I have HBOOT and can connect thru ADB
I have tried a few different PC10img's but they all fail on the bootloader
I am trying to get this to a point that I can send it in for a replacement unit but I seem to be getting no where, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Current kernel - 2.6.32.28-cyanogenmod-g4f4ee2e
Last working ROM - MIUI-Bread 1.4.8

... Seems you dont have eng-hboot and if am correct you neet eng-hboot to use adb correctly. I think no one has fixed this issue yet.

[Q] Problem with CWM Recovery

Hey guys,
I've got a problem with my clockworkmod recovery! The last days my DHD began to freeze after unlocking the screen. The only solution was to remove the battery and do a restart. The time of using my phone become shorter and shorter till today I could only unlock my SIM card and then it froze. After that I wanted to flash an update of my firmware Revolution HD.
I got an error:
Flashing boot.img...
assert failed: write_raw_image("/tmp/boot.img","boot")
E: Error in /sdcard/Software/Android_Revolution_HD_4G_3.0.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted
When I want to restore with an old backup it says:
Erasing boot before restore...
E:format_volume: no MTD partition "boot"
Error while formatting BOOT: !
E: can't open /cache/recovery/log
E: can't open /cache/recovery/log
E: can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
E: can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
Maybe someone got the same error? Or maybe someone has got an idea to solve my problem?!
Thank you guys!
EDIT:
If I want to "wipe cache partition" there's the same error:
E:failed to mount /cache (invalid argument)
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/command
E:failed to mount /cache (invalid argument)
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/log
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E:failed to mount /cache (invalid argument)
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/last_log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
E:failed to mount /cache (invalid argument)
I have the same exact problem, I am trying to switch ROMs but I want to install CWM 3 over 2.5.1.0. It's giving me the same exact error when I wipe or try to flash anything. No solution yet..
Please inform me if you have a solution....!
I tried to downgrade with this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905003
But it is without success.
Don't know if it would work to format the cache and flash a new cwm version via fastboot...:-S
No ideas guys?
First we have to know about your S-OFF, do you have Radio S-OFF, ENG S-OFF, SuperCID?
If you have ENG S-OFF, you can try flashing ClockworkMod again in fastboot. I will write you instructions if it comes to that.
If you have Radio S-OFF & SuperCID, we can inject stock ROM into your phone via a PC, or load it from the SD card in bootloader.
Hey jkoljo!
Thank you for helping!
My DHD has permroot, ENG and RADIO S-OFF, HBOOT and SuperCID. A flashed different CWM's. It worked, but the error was the same - with all versions of CWM.
I tried to flash the RUU with this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905003
The first two steps worked fine:
adb push psneuter /data/local/tmp
adb push misc_version /data/local/tmp
But in the next line:
adb shell chmod 777 /data/local/tmp/psneuter
...there is an error. It says "no directory"
Today I have to assert that my sdc failed. With an adapter I put it into my laptop. First of all I backuped the whole card. Formated it and then I wanted to copy just the important files. There was an unkown error and after that I had no access. I formated it again but while copying there was the same error. I want to try flashing the RUU with another sdc, but don't have another one at home.
In which mode should I try to flash it? In the guide you should choose charge only and debugging enabled, but as you know my DHD does not boot!
You do not need to do those psneuter commands etc, just put the PD98IMG.zip into your SD (try to get a working card) and reboot to bootloader.
Doesn't I have to install it via CWM? Just reboot the bootloader?!
Should I copy the *.zip into the root of the sdc for that?
Not in CWM, in the bootloader. And yep, put the PD98IMG.zip into the root of the SD.
Mh...bootloader started the update. But while updating the Radio_v2 it hang up. It was working about an hour but it was frozen. And now I cannot start the phone...
Think there is no other way to send it to the support isnt it? :-S
Pull the battery and try again, if that fails again, try replacing the PD file, with a new copy, it may have gone bad/corrupt along the way, if that fails, I'm stumped. But I'm sure there's more that could be done without having to send it back to HTC.
I cannot switch the phone on. No bootloader, no CWM - just the black screen. It will not work to copy a new PD-File on my sdc. And I'm absolutly sure that the PD-File is not damaged - I downgraded it with the same file some weeks ago :-S

the only thing i can do is using the fastboot when i connect it to the computer it recognized it. but i dont what to do.. can somenvody help me step by step please... thanks in advance..
edit: can you clarify if you're CLOCKWORK recovery, or STOCK recovery when you see those errors? If the former, just jump to the last step of my walk-through and proceed.
You're in good shape, and we should be able to get you sorted with relative ease.
Assuming you have ADB setup, if not, get it setup and working before following these steps.
- Download fastboot from here: http://developer.htc.com/adp.html#s2
- Place the fastboot.exe file in your adb tools directory (typically C:\Program Files\Android\android-sdk-windows\tools)
- Download this file: http://download.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-5.0.1.0-vision.img
- Rename it "recovery.img"
- Place it in your adb tools folder (C:\Program Files\Android\android-sdk-windows\tools)
- Connect your phone via USB to your computer, and boot into the bootloader, you should now be in fastboot mode (phone should say "FASTBOOT USB" in red)
- Open a command prompt and switch to your adb tools directory where you moved "fastboot.exe" and "recovery.img".
- Run the following command "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" (leave the quotes out)
- Once it's complete, you should be able to boot into recovery (try it a few times if it hangs on the white HTC splash), mount USB, copy a ROM over and install it.
Let me know if you have any problems/questions.
hey thanks for your reply but i fixed it already thank to nipqer.. i forgot to mention it here. but thnks anyways..

[Q] Wrestling with CWM errors

I'm sure a lot of you have heard this story before, but I'd love to know if there is some solution to this problem buried in the internet that I haven't found yet. Basically, every time I flash Clockworkmod Revocery, it's only a matter of time before I start getting errors along the lines of:
Code:
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/command
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/last_log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
These errors basically render the recovery useless, meaning I have to reflash it to get rid of the errors. This only works for a little while before the errors return. I've been jumping from flashing CWM 3.0.0.8 and 5.0.2.0 through hboot for the past few weeks and I'm getting sick of it. Does anyone have any suggestions for this problem? Thanks.
Phone Info
HTC Droid Incredible (ADR6300)

Android 2.3.7
Clockworkmod Recovery 3.0.0.8 (Constantly jumping between this and 5.0.2.0)

HBOOT 0.92.0000
Radio 2.15.10.07.07

Have you checked "Erase Recovery" in Rom Manager prior to installing different CWM's?
I can never flash through ROM Manager. Every time I do I get stuck at the htc Incredible screen. Hboot is the only way that works for me. I just tried your suggestion with the same results I just mentioned.

G2 Hangs at HTC Screen - Running out of ideas

I just picked this phone up off of craigslist, so I'm not sure what's been done to it previously. . It worked fine for about a half hour and then I began installing my apps onto it and at a certain point it locked up.I have a technical background, but I haven't messed with phones all that much so please forgive my noobishness.
I pulled the battery and rebooted and it just hangs at the white htc screen. I'm able to get into the bootloader and this is what I see...

I've gone into recovery mode and I see these messages in yellow at the bottom of the screen...
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/command
E:set_bootloader_message_block: emmc_read_data fail!
E:Can't mount /data/data/recovery/log
E:Can't open data/data/recovery/log
E:set_bootloader_message_block: emmc_read_data fail
-Wiping the cache seems to complete successfully and the same error messages above are displayed. Reboot hangs at white screen.
-Performing a Factory Reset /data and /cache seem to format correctly, I recieve a Data wipe complete message followed by the same messages above, I reboot and I'm sitting at the white htc screen.
-I've tried using several different PC10img.zip files and they all display 'main version is older update fail'. So no luck there.
- I've tried the manual OTA update by renaming f4d11a64d2df.OTA_Vision_Gingerbread_S_TMOUS_2.15.531.3-1.22.531.8_release_197463.zip to update.zip and placing it on the sdcard. I recieve these messages during the update process...
-- install /sdcard...
E:set_bootloader_message_block: emmc_read_data fail
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
verifiying update package...
file_getprop: failed to start "/system/build.prop: No such file or directory

E:Can't mount /data/data/recovery/log
E:Can't open data/data/recovery/log
E:set_bootloader_message_block: emmc_read_data fail
-I've installed the android sdk and usb drivers and I am able to see the device from fastboot, but I'm not sure what I should be doing next.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Emmc read failure messages usually mean the internal memory (rom space) is corrupt. I would get my money back if i were you.

I've tried contacting the kid with no luck, am I stuck with a brick or can I configure my phone to use the sdcard as the emmc similar to the guy in this thread..

But I don't have root or clockworksmod on mine, is it still possible?

[Q] HTC Droid Incredible (first edition) internal file corruptionish

Issue a little resolved.
Info below.
Thank you.
Perhaps you did a factory reset? It usually takes a few minutes longer than usual to boot after doing one of those.
If you didn't, it might be worth trying now.... turn off phone, hold volume down and power button together, using volume button scroll to 'factory reset' and select it using power button.
You can add back a stock 'OS' by following the steps here (#33 contains the stock OS)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1571404
I performed a Factory Reset. It rebooted and went to the HTC Droid Incredible screen, which only lasted a view seconds. Then it went straight to Clockworkmod Recovery.
And by that restoring the OS part you said, I can't find it. The link you provided sends me to a fix-the-screen forum post. There's no #33 there.
The phone has HBoot unlocked, btw if that helps anything.
Have you, by chance, tried flashing a stock RUU? PH98IMG on the sdcard and all that jazz?
I have, as a matter of fact, tried doing that.
I started with images at HBoot on a sdcard but all it did was read it and then throw back an image-not-recognized even though the image IS recognized.
Then I tried doing a few RUU's but all of them throw errors back at me.
This is getting frustrating.

Just do a full wipe in recovery, and then flash a rom of your choosing. That should get you up and running. Or you could do this ruu http://dinc.does-it.net/Stock_Images/4.08.605.15/PB31IMG.zip thru hboot.
Thanks for the file! I downloaded it to a FAT32 formatted sdcard and went into HBoot and let the file update. The update was successful, but I still got the random reboots/freezing/etc. I can't access the market/google play because it keeps saying there is no connection but I do a wifi connection. It also keeps getting stuck on the HTC Incredible white screen.
