Hi guys,
Please be gentle, I've just come across from the iPhone 4
I have a desire HD which I have rooted and have installed revolution HD ROM. I would like to try LEEDROID'S ROM, my question is how I can simply change ROMS whilst retaining my apps and data?
I am sure there is an easy way around this (only if you know how?)
I am guessing there is a backing up app which you are using?
Your help is much appreciated
Thank you
p.s. Just on this occasion I would like to perform a clean install and retain data/apps on any later rom swaps, can i just go ahead and wipe my sd card?
One of the best .. titanium backup
http://se.androlib.com/android.application.com-keramidas-titaniumbackup-xCzz.aspx
brilliant
that fits the bill perfectly.
can I wipe my sd card then? and then update the ROM? or are there essential files on the sd card?
There is no need to wipe SD card, do not wipe it, Titanium backup stores your data there.
Make backup of your rom first .... Really do it.
If something goes wrong, you can go back.
Do not delete the file "clockworkmod" it's your backup
Make a backup of the entire sd on your computer before you delete
thank you for your help guys
the reason I want to wipe the SD card is due to data stored on there from apps I have installed. As I am doing a clean install, I may not want to re-install the apps.
But I'll take your advise and not wipe the card. I'll just delete any obvious directories that are not needed.
Many thanks guys,

Buy a 2nd card, and do the new ROM on that, then you can test ;-)
lol good idea, I need a larger card
this is what I missed about XDA, iPhone forums aren't as helpful
OK I am confused now
I have flashed to LEEDROIDS rom, and all of my data and apps are still present. I have done no backup.
Any ideas how I can flash and delete everything and start over?
Many thanks

Have u factory reset cleared cache and also cleared dalvik?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Alright..
Firstly, reboot into recovery and wipe full data & the dalvik cache.
Second, flash a rom to which your device fulfills all requirements (eg. not D2EXT, D++)
Third, restart your device after installing the ROM.
Fourth, WAIT!!!!! if it doesnt boot after like 15 minutes then something has gone wrong somewhere.
Just to make things easy to start with, you should try using a rom that doesn't require an ext2/3/4 partition and just uses fat. Unless you are confident you can do that correctly.

thanks all ,after wipe partition and wipe data factory , worked with me.
this wipe partion deleted my ext partition also?
thanks
Seriously, you should do a little reading tutirials and guides on flashing.
You cannot flash a ROM with a different base on top of another - that's why the bootloops. (E.g. Flashing DHDport on top of Stock Rooted or GB on FROYO won't work without wiping).
Secondly, it is wiped it - ergo FORMATTED it, the ext partition is still there.

I understand that i have to see which radio can work with?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Listen, everybody's here to help each other. It's what we android users do.
A little of "Please", and "thank you very much", "you guys are great"... goes a long way...
As for the radio, the easiest would have been, to upgrade your stock system to Froyo 2.29 before running the ROM.
Stock, before a custom ROM. This would probably avoid any radio problems.
If your phone is working and you have no issues, then you shouldn't worry about it.
Some people, get a little angry, when the same problem happens over and over again, and there are posts to cover these problems.
But, I think most of us, will jump right in, and give a hand to those who ask politely. And give a big thanks, when the issue is fixed.
Oh, and all ROMs are not created to work with Desire...
Hi I recently flashed evo-decks 1.2 stable after I did that I had errors with any nandroids and I can't flash any sense or aosp ones either. I'm stuck and and stumped as to what my course of action should please any ideas would be fantastic thank you.
Well first, do you have a current working rom at the moment?

Well backup the rom; make sure you have at least 500mb free space. Do a full wipe [factory/data, cache, dalvik cache], flash the new rom. Make sure you have more space, because the sense 2.1/3.0 can be big in backup size.
What happens when you try to flash another Rom?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
I get stuck at the HTC evo 4g screen just stays white and wont boot I have wiped it numerous times and I get the same result never happend until I flashed the 1.2 stable I also did flash the vipermod and Google apps as well as available memory mod I found I had used that multiple times before as well
Wipe everything 3x, use Virus's CR super wipe after you manually wipe everything. Factory wipe, cache and delvik cache. That should clear everything out. Then flash a Rom. It sounds like something isn't getting wiped.

Well it says report to the recovery log to see what went wrong its preventing me from even Making a backup at all it says depot to recovery log to see what went wrong seems more serious no?
So because somethings not wiping properly that will give me an error telling me to view the recovery log and then prevent me from flashing different builds and making a nandroid backup I don't seem to see a link for the superwipe under virus I tried searching and i could not locate it is it on his website?

If I were you, I'd backup my SD Card, format it, repartition it, if you're using partitions, and then copy the essentials back over. Specifically, you're nandroid folder, then reflash your Recovery, which hopefully, is Amon Ra.
Then either try to reflash one of your nandroids, although if it was me, I'd just copy the ROM you want first, and then try to flash that, and it if goes well, try a nandroid you have saved.
I've had this happen twice and both times, reflashing recovery did the trick
Alright ill try thanks alot everyone I appreaciate your help ill get back to you guys hopefully with good news
Well so there's no way I could just wipe it with recovery and flash it over cause apparently I'm not the only one with this issue and somebody said it has to do with partitions of my SD card I'm trying to look into it deeper.

You don't have to partition it; first reflash your recovery via PC36IMG image, then copy your sdcard to a pc, format it, then copy the files back over, try to restore a backup, or reflash the rom.
Just tried to go back to a fresh backup(30 min old) and I get the message "Error restoring /system!" after a while. Happends on all my backups, with latest Rom manager and latest recovery. I saw a thread somewhere about deleting su-backup, file is not found when trying to with adb so I guess I don't have it. Couldn't find anything else about it, what can I do?
I had a similar problem. I solved it by using ext4 recovery instead of cwm.

You can't just restore the backup? or your phone isn't turning on and stuck on a white screen?
It's just the backup that fails, luckily I still had all ROM files on my SDcard so I flashed Ultimate Ace and now thats what I'm using. Root is back as well, however I still very much need all my apps and settings.
Would you please post a guide on ext4 recovery? I've gotten used to CWM, can you have them both at the same time?

To be honest there both pretty much the same as each other. I just use ext4 because ARHD flashed it when I first installed it. You cant run both together.

Same stupid error with 4EXT
There has to be some solution to this? I seriously can't be the only one with failed restores?
Is it every backup that fails? Or just the one. It could just be a bad backup. As for getting apps etc back, there's an app called "app extractor" (search all one word) which can actually pull your apps and data from a nandroid backup. I believe titanium backup can do this also. Hope this helps.

I just restored everything with TB, forgot it existed. But still, now I'm afraid of changing roms since backups doesn't work. And yes it's all backups, even my original rom backup which has worked before, I'm suspecting the issue came along with cwm 5
Sent from my Desire HD
All I can suggest is to switch to the latest 4ext recovery. Download the 4ext app from the market and install from that.

I have tried with 4ext as well, it is now the recovery I mainly use because it provided alot more information. But it still gave me the same error, and every time I try I have to wipe and re-flash which means all my settings resets...

Word to the wise. Never restore any system data and settings
I never do, that's why I have to set them all over again, as for system apps I don't think I use any of them except market and gmail.

If someone's still interested: solved the problem with /format system. after that i could easily restore my backup w/o error.
Hey guys i just updated to the ICS 8.5 final final version, i just wanna know if i want to switch back to the CM7 can i copy the rom onto my sdcard install the zip file through the recovery mod? Or do i have to make a restore to the cm7?
I am a bit confused wanna clear that up a little

You could have used the same thread buddy
Either way is fine with any rom.
You can mske a backup of whatever you are using, flash a new rom and then revert to the backup if you want.
Or you can just start all over and flash another rom. You need to full wipe always.

I've never found any bugs with a nandroid backup and have used it on multiple devices.
Sometimes if you restore app data using something like titanium you can get probs depending on the rom but nandroid backups are fine.
last time i used nandroid on sabsa prime 3.0 i got bootloop... just wanted to warn prospect since lots of people got those problems even with nandroid.
Gesendet von meinem HTC Desire HD
So technically the only time one should perform a nandroid backup is when he/she wants to switch back to the stock fimware otherwise "install zip from sdcard" is better
Sent from my Desire HD using xda premium
No.
You can make a nandroid backup anytime you want and restore it. It is advisable to make backups before flashing anything to the phone. Mods, scripts, etc. Just in case something goes wrong. That way yoy can go back right where you left it.
The other member, seems to have been talking about that particular rom, however strange it may sound. And there is always the possibility that in that case, either the member did something wrong or it was an isolated case.
