I've had a few issues with the nordic rom freezing and causing SD card issues. So i decided to do a 'factory settings' reset, and a wipe from the recovery and then re-flash the sbf.
After all of this the phone boots back up and goes through the set-up process, but after its finished i noticed that some things didn't get wiped. My custom wallpaper is still set, the ringtones i selected are still set and when i downloaded the facebook app it didn't ask me to log-in, it just logged-in automatically...
Makes me a bit nervous about selling the phone in the future. Has anybody else got remnants of personal info left after a wipe?
Have you set motoblur account or gmail to backup user data?
Yep thats what i thought, but logging into a different google account (i dont have motoblur set-up) still brings back the wallpaper and ringtone settings. It seems to forget the facebook app login though on a different account.

I am trying to load fresh 4.5.0.1 and I am coming from CM 6.1.1 and also gingerbread test roms.
I have Calkulin's format all zip, and use it to wipe the entire device before moving from rom to rom.
My recovery is the latest amon ra.
Everytime I load a fresh.... fresh rom, it loads perfect, except that when it finally loads to where the phone is usable, all these old apps I used to use are loaded (many of them paid apps). They are old versions, so these apps aren't coming from the android market automatically.
I have all of these apps backed up on my sdcard, under an "apps" folder. I thought maybe it was loading them from this and have tried renaming it, and also totally removing it. These apps still installed automatically.
So my question is.... where on earth are they coming from? I just loaded CM7.0 gingerbread nightly build and these apps don't install. I loaded fresh 5-6 times today and these apps show up every time.
Any ideas? I have a pretty firm grasp on android and my EVO, but this is just baffling me. I bet it is something really simple too...
Help please!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Let me also add that I have tried using calkulin's format all.zip, and the wipe system data, cache, and dalvik together to make absolutely sure the device is being wiped.
I do not use apps2sd, or have any apps installed to my sdcard.
I think it has to do with you setting up your gmail account when you first power on the phone after flashing. Try resetting it and skip the email setup part. When you click on market it should prompt you to log in.
I'll also add that when you set up your gmail in the beginning there is an option for backup apps and data (something along those lines). I always check the box and I think that's what you did.

This was the only thing I could think of as well. However, I can't seem to find that option for google to backup your apps. It used to be during the setup, which it isn't, and it also was under privacy in settings, which I can't find either.
I am seeing all these apps before I sync my google account.
Maybe I am just going crazy...
I thought of another tidbit to add...
I have flashed a stock rooted rom, and the apps do not install, even after syncing with my google account. Fresh 4.5.0.1 is the only rom this happens on.
This says solved... what was the solution?
When I ran the start up wizard, it asked if I wanted Google to back up my settings and I said no. Why does it still try and install loads of apps I used to use?
Was the solution not to sign in to your Google account during the wizard?
So last night my wife asked if FriendStream on my phone had any tweets in it. It did but hers had not updated for over a day. I opened Peep and hit refresh and waited for it to update did this a few times and the latest it would get was still over 24 hours old.
Having seem similar problems before I cleared the cache of FriendStream its widget and Peep, Still wouldn't update so I cleared their data and that's where it went wrong.
Opened Peep and it had to the login boxes greyed out and a button saying logout, so I did and then tried to login I get Unable to sign in.
"You entered an incorrect username or password".
I have tried rebooting a few times and adding the account back in Accounts and Sync same problem, tried my account same problem, tried my wife's account on my phone and it logs in fine.
I have tried checking/unchecking SSL makes no difference, I know this happened a while back when Twitter changed there login API but it seems I broke something clearing Peeps data without removing the account in accounts and sync or it was broken already and that's why it would update and I brought the login problem to the surface.
If this was a normal app I would try and reinstall it but now I don't know what to do.
1) Can someone with a stock ROM confirm Peep is working and updating. My Desire has LeeDroid with a slightly newer Peep.
2) I have extracted htctwitter.apk from the Modaco ROM can you install this and have it overwrite the installed Peep on a stock un-rooted phone?
3) Any suggestions apart from do a factory reset? and if a factory reset is done any educated guesses if it will help?
4) Does a factory reset mean you have to OTA again or is the OTA written into the image when its applied?
Thanks for any help, seems I broke the wifes most used feature of the phone Not a good idea on my part.
Snowdan.
Turns out Peep version 1.00.0061.26XXXX that ships with stock T-Mobile phones no longer works with twitter, T-Mobile are aware and talking to HTC about an OTA to fix this.

Hello!
I'm just a frequent reader on custom romposts, and my hobby is somehow to flash stuff (addicted, my GF hates it) and report on problems and such. I'm sorry if my problem is answered somewhere else but I can't find anything that helps..
Latley while changing roms sensebase and aosp or cm9/10 it seems like i can't fully wipe my phone.
I've tried to empty cache, and data within apps. Android Revolutions SuperWipe script.
I always do a full wipe of everything i can find to wipe (inside recovery factory reset etc) but still Market installs apps, the same wallpaper is set and so on..
The data for ringtones and such is always wiped but I don't feel that my phone gets cleaned out 100% like my old SE X10 which got wiped all the time.
Is there some information about wiping the HTC One X which has been kept in silence or am I just stupid? Idk but i feel that i have to ask!
Thank you in advance!
Well if she really dislikes it, replace her.
Oh, sorry, you wanted help with the phone?
Try checking it's wiped before adding back your google account which restores all the things you said were restored.
With a damp cloth.
Na, seriously, start bootloader, (power on and volume down) and choose clear data or whatever it is. If you log into your google account then your wallpaper and stuff will come back, it's backed up on googles servers and restores automatically. If you don't want that, go into settings, privacy, backup data, and deselect it. That will delete all the data that's backed up with google. Your phone will stay wiped next time!
I need some help trying to solve this...
I have just wiped my entire phone by doing a factory reset as well as wipe/data and wipe/system.. i also wiped my SD card because i found some old app .temp folders..
I have set my phone to NOT recover contact info from my GMAIL account.. (aka starting from SCRATCH)
When i enter my phone.. my contacts are present..
HELP!!
What else can i clear/wipe in the CWM mode?
My first though is why wouldn't you want your contacts to sync back to your phone, but your business is your business...i digress. For whatever reason you wish to prevent contacts from syncing from GMAIL, the easiest sure fire way is to not sign into a google account on the first boot after a full wipe and flash.

Thanks for the reply.. i do realize its google causing this..
and to be clear.. im just trying to wipe my phone to get it back to a clear and clean as possible since im having ROM issues.. so i just wanted to clear the phone completely..
I'm trying to get my phone visible on the android device manager, but it looks like Google's servers haven't seen my phone since I bought it in June.
Rather, I'm looking at my Device manager in my google account and when I look at the devices, it shows my S4, but it says "Last activity seen on: Jun..."
Incidentally, I probably rooted my phone around that time. Actually, I soft bricked it, recovered it by a Kies reflash, and then rooted it.
I've tried some of the usual stuff that's suggested to do for Android Device Manager- uncheck "allow wiping the phone" then wipe data on Play Services, reset, recheck "allow wipe" reset again. But that doesn't help.
I've also tried removing my google account from the phone then reinstalling, to no avail.
So, I'm at wit's end. How do I get my phone showing up on Google?
Incidentally, this is mostly stock ROM, except for the rooting. Admittedly, I did restore a lot of stuff via a Titanium Backup from my previous phone, that's why I figured an account wipe then reinstall should help- I just added it back- didn't use Titanium Backup to restore anything.
I'm reluctant to wipe the phone completely to get it showing up again, so what else can anyone suggest?
edit: a bit more data: it shows the phone last seen while I was on vacation- read: a week after I rooted and restored the thing, so root and Titanium Backup might not be relevant there.
Factory reset. If that doesn't work, odin back to stock.

Yeah, factory reset is pretty much the nuclear option. Admittedly, with a Titanium Backup, it's not that bad, but still, time consuming.
Instead, I fixed it by not only clearing the data of play services, I also uninstalled the updates for it- didn't seem to help- and cleared the data for Google Services Framework. Reset, re-allow locations, and it started working.
Hopefully this also fixes my gmail polling issue/lack of push.
