so i just modded my xoom standard dock to include usb in what do you guys think
It wasnt hard it took about 30 minutes but i should mention the audio port on the stand doesnt work any more
all you have to do is open it up using by unscrewing it from under the grip pad on the bottom
then switch the usb cable with the micro usb cable already attatched to the dock make a hole on bottom half of dock
put everything back together and your done

do you ever feel like the dock is poorly designed and that port is going to break or damage your zoom with how much play is in it?
nah not really it seems pretty solid to me
Good work..instructions?

Does it break audio out functionality or does that go through bluetooth like in my old Nexus One dock? I would love to do this, but I use the audio out frequently.
Thanks in advance!
very cool! was wondering how possible this was. I think ill do mine this weekend.

it gets rid of the audio out function on the dock, but i just plug my speakers in using the headphone jack on the top of the xoom not as pretty but it make the dock much more functional for me.

Almost bought one, the good thing is you don't need a micro hdmi cable, it uses a standard hdmi cable.

Nice, from the photos it looked like the HDMI cable it comes with was a normal HDMI one rather than a mini or micro (or whatever they're called, type D or something).
I got mine. Yes it uses standard hdmi. I love it.
I don't see what this would get you over a micro hdmi cable from
monoprice.com for $6.

I got one Friday and am having sound issues.
If I attach my phone to the dock, I am unable to hear any sounds after disconnecting it. It affects both the speaker and Bluetooth sound.
The only way I have found to get the sound back is to shut it off and on again.
I am not sure if it is app related, but I suspect not.

yes the hdmi cable included is standard.
I picked one up yesterday. I like the construction. It feels sturdy unlike the parts you buy shipped from China on ebay. The phone fits nicely.
The price is a bit much (it should be only $20), but I guess because you get that cable it makes it worth it.
Does it put the phone in dock mode when plugged in?

Hi there,
I'm looking at returning back to the Android scene with a nice shiny new S3 after being over on the dark side with my iPhone (I know I know!!!). However, I do love one of the things I can do with my iPhone which is listen to my music in the car via the port at the bottom by using a Y cable which splits the output into a USB plug (for charging) and a 3.5mm Jack for AUX in sound.
Does the S3 offer music output and charging via the micro USB slot at the bottom? Has anyone tried this? I've done numerous search's and keep coming up short, with the exception of a post on here that shows the amendment of an iPhone Y cable into a Micro USB version, but that was for the S2.
If your interested in a car dock the Samsung infuse dock works for a single dock connection, but of course the dock has a charger and audio lead.
Hmm, worth thinking about! It's the all in one solution I'm after, so this might work.
Any idea if Samsung are going to bring an official dock for the s3?

We are all looking but the only thing official so far was a cradle (no connections). Speculation was perhaps an inductive charging dock but?..

The microusb does support outputting audio+taking in power.
I haven't seen a cheap cable for that purpose but just made one myself in the end from an old usb cable, an audio cable and a 690K resistor.
A y-cable made for the S2 should work fine on the S3 (that is what I based my cable on)
Ebay will probably have something suitable
Thanks for that, any write up on how it's done? What's the sound quality like please?

I prefer use USB cable instead. You still need to flip the arm up to plug. That is far much trouble than only using the cable.

Hey Everyone-
Hope you all have been enjoying the videos. This video takes a look at a generic desktop charging dock made for the HTC One M8 but happens to work perfectly with the OnePlus One. Thanks to @hka148 for bringing this to my attention.
For additional OnePlus and technology videos, check out my YouTube channel. Enjoy!

EDIT - There is a use for the USB port on the back of the dock. It can be used to charge a secondary device such as a bluetooth headset or a tablet while your device is being charged in the cradle.
Hey KP, thanks for all the videos you have been doing for us. Just a thought about that USB plug in the back that you did not know what it was for. Maybe it allows you to hook up a power source to charge the phone with a regular male USB input cord in case you don't have a micro-USB connecting cord?
Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk
Can you use the USB output and short cable to charge the phone? I'm guessing the idea is so you can put your phone in landscape (horizontally) and charge at the same time.
Thanks for the video anyway!
You read my mind. Was planning to get this but thanks for showing it in action with a TPU case on it.

hmmmm .... maybe! I'm trying to think of anything in my toys where i could arrange what would essentially be male usb to male usb power. Hell, i don't even own a male usb to male usb cable
If i had a male usb to male usb cable i'd probably try using AC as the micro usb power source hook the power the USB port up to a USB port on a PC to see if that functions for data exchange between the devices.

I don't think that would work, i mean putting the phone in the dock in landscape. Remember the channel where you place your phone has a male micro USB connector sticking up in the middle of it. If you turn your phone sideways then that micro USB connector has nowhere to go so you'd be trying to balance you're phone on it sideways which i don't think would work.
What you may be onto though is the fact that it could function as a second charging source so your phone could be in the dock in portrait orientation and you could charge a second device (like a bluetooth headset) via the USB port.

If you put the bit of removable bit of plastic upside down, can you put the phone back in landscape so it's not touching the micro usb ? or is the lip too small then?
*EDIT* Just watched the video again and the removable plastic is flush so there wont be any lip if you put it in upside down.

They should have hired you to help them with the design because that makes sense!! but no, unfortunately it wouldn't work. I like that thought process though

Cool I'll actually use that. I have a Bluetooth headset that sits right next to where I'll have the dock.
what about the speakers?
that dock dont block them ?
I just recieved my dock which i got on your review, and first of, the usb port is wrong way , i had to open it up and turn it around, but doing so i found out how cheap and flimsy the unit is..i cannot get phone to sit on it enough to get a connection and if you take out insert to use with case, you may find the usb end coming out with the plactic it sits in as it is not actually secured in with anything ...mine is now in the trash some 30 mins after opening it...my recommendation......dont bother
My Galaxy Nexus isn't charging or connecting to my computer. I've tried different USB ports, wall adapters, and USB cords and nothing. I don't really want to replace the charging port. What can I do?
Thanks in advance.

Of what cujo said didn't work you have no option but to replace the port or buy an external battery charger.

In a pinch you can rig up a temporary charger using the POGO pins on the right side of the phone. Just wire the corresponding red/black wires from a cut up USB cable to the correct pins (you can find the pinouts online). The trick is getting the wires to stay on the pins - you can try packing tape. I know this is kind of a dirty solution, but it will work in an emergency until you can replace the usb port.

Well, there is no guarantee that it is the USB board - but you can purchase one on ebay for under $10. The part includes a usb jack as well as a ribbon connector that connects the jack to the main board. There is, however, a chance that you have a faulty main board, in which case, replacing the USB port is not going to fix your problem but the only way to really test that is to buy the part and try it out.

That's for a Verizon Galaxy Nexus, I don't remember which one you said you had but you'll want to be sure to get the right one.
