[Q] gold card - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i i just my camera sd card to make a gold card...after downgrade..i use back my sd card(come together with dhd)..so can i use back the sdcard back to camera...if next time i wan to stock RUU..will i have to use back the old gold card..or can i simply make another gold card?
btw can 1.84.707.2 downgrade?
stock 1.32 PD98IMG.zip working with malaysia(asia) ori phone?

If you reformat the SD Card then yes you can use it again as storage but it will no longer be a gold card. You will have to make another gold card.
It doesn't have to be the same gold card every time but I personally have dedicated SD cards for this purpose as they're so cheap and that certain cards work better.
You should be able to downgrade anything now.
I'm not able to answer your last question though.

Yes, build 1.84 is downgradable.
Use the guide --> [GUIDE] How to downgrade 1.7x/1.8x/2.x to 1.32.405.6

Erm, what I Cn say is, the original stock 1.32.405.1 Cn read and type Chinese, but the phone is cnt change into Chinese. But usually those customized Rom usually support all the language.

Back to "Sense" - 2.2 to HTC 2.1 downgrade.

Despite a great job done by our beloved developers to bring up Android 2.2 on the HTC Desire, some of us (incl me) will miss 2.1 with HTC Sense UI.
Guide below shows how to quickly and easily revert that change.
IMPORTANT: You will need your GOLD CARD to avoid "Error 131. Customer ID error".
If you formatted your GOLD CARD or haven't got one please find the complete guide how to create it on the
Forum/HTC Desire/Desire Android Development/[TUT]Complete upgrading guide(root, unroot, flashing ROM & updates) and create a new one.
Be patient! Either options takes approximately 10 minutes to reflash your Desire.
There are two ways to downgrade 2.2 to original HTC's 2.1:
From your mobile using Micro SD card
Go to: http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Bravo/
Download your Desire's *.zip ROM file on the PC(I couldn't find *.zip one on XDA site)
Rename downloaded file to PB99IMG.zip
Insert your Micro SD card with GOLD CARD on it to your phone or card reader
Copy ROM file to that Micro SD card
Insert your Micro SD card with GOLD CARD and PB99IMG.zip ROM file to your Desire
Press "Back Arrow" button and "Power" button to start BOOT LOADER
Wait until your Desire will recognize HTC ROM and press "Volume UP" button to confirm the installation
Press "Volume UP" again to reboot
Done
From the PC
Insert your GOLD CARD Micro SD card to your Desire
On the PC download your ROM *.exe from
Forum/HTC Desire/Desire Android Development/[ROM] Official HTC Desire RUU ROMS and OTA Update URLs
Connect your phone to your PC over the USB cable
On the phone select HTC Sync for USB connection type
Start downloaded HTC *.exe ROM loader
Follow the instructions
Done
Your Desire should reboot after that and boot up normally with HTC logo.
Now you can remove your GOLD CARD and replace it with the Micro SD card you using for your stuff.
In my case 2nd option didn't work but hell knows why.
GOOD LUCK!!!
Why all this effort when you can just flash a .zip the same way you got to 2.2 in the first place?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Lol that was to funny.
Geeez.. You just need to flash the .zip file as you did with the froyo rom. No need for that procedure!!
Lol

Not without the Gold Card as far as I'm aware.
I've tried that but stuck on Error 131.
So I've just tried to make an easy guide for "noobs" like me.
Trust me it wasn't easy to work it out even after some time spent on browsing XDA forum resources.
But if there is an easier or other way to do that please post a link to the guide for me.
And sorry for spamming the forum if that issue was already discussed.
Thanx.

The Same way you flash a 2.2 rom, u can flash a 2.1 stock official rom.
Reverting back to 2.1 from 2.2 is as simple as flashing a 2.1 zip. I think the OP may be referring to un-rooting and reverting back to 2.1.
As I've mentioned that above, I've tried that but stuck on 131 error using HTC Rom. For some reason Gold Card was required even with XDA app. Since I went to 2.2 my handset was reflashed f
ew times and I never need to use gold card again. But for some reason this time was different and handset refused to flash HTC Rom without that damn gold card. But thank you for your all advice. Have a good night!

You need to wipe, otherwise u will get stuck.
Just wondering but after you flash back to 2.1, can u download the OTA update which is some 27mb plus and install it?
In my case I restore my 2.1 Rom via Rom Manager app. All went well but the OTA update just won't install
Any advice?
Sent via my Desire
You talking bout the 1.21 ota update?!
just download it via this forum and install it manually will spare you the HBOOT and radio upgrade...
Yeah....was told to do just that but it's giving some verification failed error. Oso...wipe is a must? Cos I already installed my apps was hoping to just update without having to wipe my device & start all over.

wow thats a lot of effort i have tried every froyo rom on this board and never had to do all that.
i dont usualy keep the froyo roms on for more than a couple of hours .
i like the sence ui to much and just simply wipe and flash back .
on the odd ocassion i may get stuck in a boot loop. which is easily fixxed with a repartion of the sd card.
.
Alternatively, just restore the Nandroid backup you should have made prior to flashing a 2.2 ROM!

Or just flash a zip of a nice custom 2.1 rom with apss2sd.
Had no problems going back and 2.1 gives me mutch better battery live.
Waiting for 2.2 with sense and good batterylive
Which 2.1 rom with sense would you recommend based on your experience? I seem to also like the sense UI better.

I use the Pays 2.0 ROM with App2sd, UV and OC. It's really good, I don't even have the impression I am using a custom ROM.

Of course it's horses for courses, but Sense UI is no great shakes. I'm not over keen on the big fat ugly widgets, I'd rather have a small launch icon (and therefor more on screen). Launcher Pro on 2.2 does the trick very nicely for me.
Having had an initial battle with my contacts obviously not working with HTC sync anymore I soon got over it with Facebook/Google sync. Haven't looked back since.
Anyhow, as most folks have pointed out, the original post for the majority of us it seems is very much redundant. I've swapped between 2.1 and 2.2 many times just using Rom Manager with no additional steps needed. I do have a gold card somewhere but it's not been used since the original Root.
All the same it will possibly come in handy if anyone finds themselves in the same boat as you so fair play to you for taking time to post it.

Made a partition with a GoldCard.

Hi everyone.
Im new to the Rooting scene, and im kinda noob. Ive rooted my phone and Goldcarded my MS(4GB).
And today I downloaded ROMmanager and partitioned my SD card also known as my Goldcard. IS this stilll a goldcard now or have i messed up everything?
thanks.
You should be able to repartition your Gold Card and have it remain entirely as FAT32. It's your other SD Card (normal) that you are meant to partition, not the Gold Card.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
haha, well the problem is, I only have one memcard. So ur saying it isnt possible to partition a goldcard and use it as as both GoldCard and a normal stick? That was mainly my intention with the card so far
BTW, do I need Goldcardx to install custom ROMs and enter the custom recovery menu etc.? or is it just to root the phone?
It's just to root your phone. You don't need it anymore to flash new roms.
Afaik there aren't any problems with using the goldcard as regular SD card.
you can enter recovery without goldcard, but you'll need it in future to install roms

No you don't - once you made your Desire "generic", you shouldn't need your goldcard again just to flash a new custom ROM.
Regards,
Dave
I did everything with goldcard inside, so I'm not sure, but as I remember, people who debranded their Orange phones to 1.15, couldn't do successfull OTA to 1.21 (wifi stopped working) because there was no goldcard inside. Once they put goldcard inside, they could do complete OTA (although phone simlocked ):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=697194
Based on that, I always used goldcard to flash roms, but I could be wrong, I'm relatively new with this
Hey I'm new aswell and I used my goldcard to root and then partitioned it for apps2sd+ and its still all working fine so I don't think your phone will explode or stop working
dont worri even if you have partitioned your sd card, it will still work as a goldcard

[Q] Goldcard--Doubt about Goldcard usage

Hi,
I recently had wifi issues with OTA update of HTC desire (patch). this i understand because I didnt have goldcard during the OTA.
So , I decided to make my everyday card (16Gb) into a gold card.... Done without any trouble.
My doubt is..
Should I use the update once more in this gold card also to continue receiving future OTA updates ?
In other words...do the phones identify the goldcards used for flashing and need the same goldcard for future updates???
(I know its a very silly question...but couldn't resist it..as I am naive...)...
request somebody to answer...
thanks in advance...

no you dont need the same goldcard, you could use one for one update and a diff one for another, dosent matter
Not naive, good question, something I wondered about too.
If I make my main card a gold card and use that after using a previous goldcard will it cause problems?
Also is there a reverse gold card procedure should I want to revert my desire to T Mobile OTA in the future without a gold card ?

i dont understand what you mean by a reverse goldcard if you have a t-mobile branded desire and you use a goldcard to flash a generic rom, you can still flash back to your branded rom without the need for a goldcard

To reverse it use a T-Mobile RUU, unless you have an SLCD screen!
I don't think the T-Mobile FroYo RUU is available yet.
Just check shipped-roms hopefully it'll turn up soon.
Thanks, I thought I would have to unroot or do something else.
So to confirm
T Mobile 1st wave Desire non SLCD
Gold Card made
HTC Rom 2.1 flashed with gold card in
OTA Upgrade to 2.2 with gold card in
OTA upgrade recent patch with gold card in - current state
If I wanted now to revert for example for a warranty issue:
I could just flash 2.1 T Mobile original rom without goldcard to get back to out of the box condition
I could then do the T Mobile OTA to 2.2 when it is released again with no worries about gold card not being present and killing the wifi connection.
Thanks for clarifying, I think it will help folks with Gold card concerns.

noooooooooo, if you are using the froyo ota you cant use a ruu to go back to 2.1 because you have the newer hboot!! if you flashed a custom rom to get froyo with the new hboot removed you can ....
Also found this thread with video tutorials, very good
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=696189
So what can you do if you have the new hboot from the OTA upgrade from HTC to go back to T-mobile 2.1 out of the box standard?

[Q] Can a Gold Card be made after Rooted?

I have rooted my HTC Desire with Unrevoked3 using
theunlockr - how-to-root-the-htc-desire-unrevoked-method
and i did not make a gold card before it was rooted.
After the image was installed i did a nandroid backup on the Froyo 2.2 Stock settings branded to orange.
I then flashed a custom rom - Gingerbread - Ginger Villain 1.1 and mods atm
I was wondering if I;
1)Can i create a new gold card for my device following the guide but my phone has been rooted already?
2)If I had stock Froyo 2.2 on HTC Desire branded to Orange updated via OTA - Can a gold card be made with this? - Some guides said it cannot be done and may need to be downgraded to create a gold card
3) Since the phone is rooted now, I was wondering what is the best way to unroot the device and load back a Orange Branded Rom to return if needed for Warranty purposes?
Thanks
1 - yes
2 - yes
3 - you can't as the Orange RUU has never been leaked. You would be best going back to the WWE RUU which is easy enough with a goldcard.

Are you sure about 2)?
As on the goldcard rooting URL there is a message:
"Before you start to root your branded(locked) Desire you need to know how to make GoldCard
IMPORTANT - this tutorial will not work if you have installed 2.2 OTA update from HTC!"
Also for 3) have you got a link to WWE RRU that i can use so in the future if i need to return the phone for warranty i know which to restore.
Thanks for your help
2 - as far as I understand, a goldcard can be made at anytime. The process just updates a sector of your sdcard. The updates are created using information of your CID which is already coded on the sdcard. Therefore, it doesn't matter which rom is being used.
The goldcard is only used when flashing an RUU that is different to your carriers rom, Orange in this case.
3 - www.shipped-roms.com has all the available RUUs. The most recent WWE RUU is 2.29.405.5 I think.
As an aside, there are no guarantees that Orange will accept a phone with WWE rom for warranty. However, you are now rooted so that would be your best option.
Hope this helps

OK thanks for the info,
What i understand is that each sdcard has their own cid code which this is then converted into a img file for a gold card to be created with binary.
do you know what the gold card is actually needed for? and how does this help when trying to restore to a stock rom via flashing an RUU
as im a bit confused on why a gold card is actually needed and each sdcard cid is needed?
It is required to get around some security built into the RUUs I think. Hopefully you will never need it but it is advised to create one as it is much easier to do while your phone works. Its not something you want to worry about if the time comes when your phones goosed and you need to run an RUU

[Q] Can you Duplicate DHD Goldcard??

Hi All,
Looking to upgrade from my current 8GB micro to 16GB.
I want to keep the goldcard without hassle of having to do it all again. Can i just image the existing 8GB card and restore to new 16GB one? Will this retain the 'goldcard.
Or now that i'm on root with s-off and custom ROM does it even matter if i don't have the goldcard?
Thanks
Bump!
Anyone??

Like u said, u have root, S-OFF and now on custom ROM.
It doesn't matter anymore for the Goldcard.
Unless u S-ON the device back, change out the CID back to the carrier-branded CID, flash a stock ROM RUU on it, would u then need the Goldcard to ''downgrade'' again. This is my understanding.
That is right. And if you, hbt15, did Radio S-OFF via my tool including SuperCID, you now have a "god-mode Goldcard" built into your phone
