Phone stuck in Download mode- will not restore - Windows Phone 7 General

Was updating phone to Windows Phone 7 Nodo, HTC 7 Trophy and the phone froze, and a red ring appeared around the arrow on the update screen on the phone, after a considerable time later Zune froze on my windows 7 pc and started straight away, thinking the phone was disconnected. It then tried to restore but could not, so i restarted the phone and the screen comes up again in zune and cannot restore, any fixes, Zune is latest version and running fine up until now!
Please help really dont want to have to go to the shop and ask for a replacement!

It looks like the bootloader is somehow damaged.

[Q] Remote wipe. Did it brick the phone?

Hi,
I received a LG GW910 from the DevConnections conference. I was playing with the remote services available through the live.com device center and performed a remote erase of the device. It seems like it did not complete as now all I get when powering on the device is a white LG logo, or I can enter the "connecting kitl" screen. When in either screen I cannot power off the device or anything else. Is there anything I can do to restore the device to a working condition?
Thank you!
I don't know much about how this works but I would try to remove the device from windowsphone.live.com so that your Live ID isn't associated with it anymore. Just a wild guess.
No joy, but thanks for the idea. I don't think its loading the 'OS' even. Is there a way to restore the 'OS' from anywhere?
There's usually a combination of hardware keys you need to press to do a hard reset. Check the manual for your phone.
Thanks buddy, but if there is, I haven't found them yet.
I'll keep digging..
There is a Hard Reset option:

I did this with the dev device I was allowed to borrow same one the GW910, I plugged it into the mains and had dinner, it was back at the OOBE screen when I got back, scared the crap outta me as the device is on loan and I thought I bricked it.
If you push both volume buttons at startup (on this device) it just takes you to the "connecting kitl" screen. At that point, what should I do to reset the device?
I tried connecting it to a kettle and a kitten and some cattle, but it didn't help, although I think I plugged it in the wrong port on the cattle
I just did this to my phone as I have to return it due to bad reception in my area.
Once reset it stayed at the HTC white boot screen. I pulled the battery and it reset just fine.
Back to setup again on the phone.

OK, I did this and it actually worked. Previously I had let the phone sit at the LG logo for over 20 minutes with the entire phone getting hot from driving the display and it never did anything. So I plugged it in to main power and left it while I went to lunch and low and behold it was at the OOBE screen when I returned.
Who woulda thought that it would take that long and that it wouldn't give a status message or anything...
Either way, my thanks to you for the suggestion.
My pleasure, I remember how scared I was thinking I'd have to explain to MS how I bricked their device, using Windows Live of all things. I don't think anyone should have to go through that kind of a scare.
I wonder though, could the extreme wait-time be a way to discourage "finders" in a repeat of the iPhone 4 bar situation? Nuke the device and it won't boot for quite some time while connected to wall power ...
It still wipes quickly when using the reset option on the about screen.

[Q] Samsung Focus brick

Look like my Samsung Focus is brick after doing reg hack for NODO. Zune software hung for a few hours on reboot screen. After cancel the Phone appear to be stuck.
Tried Formating using power+camera+volume done.
Any suggestion?
Try taking out the battery. Popping it back in, and try Volume Up, Power, Camera... Mine got stuck once, then I put it into Download mode... once it started, I took the battery out again... then put it back, and it booted up normally.
Outside of that, no clue.

Pop the battery out now... then reboot. Good luck. Again... this worked for me... I make no assurances.
Didn't seem to work it on the screen with picture of the phone and a computer to hook up.
Any other suggestion?

Here is what I did... again, I make no assurances for your device...
I put it into download mode, waited a minute or 2... popped the battery out, popped it back in about 5 seconds later, did the re-format trick (vol down, power, cam) and that seemed to do the trick. Try that again. I'll be standing by.
I thought there was a restore mode in zune? Like you put it into download mode then hook it up to zune and it offers a restore option.
oh well didn't seem to work. Zune does have that but it gave an error when trying to restore it. thx all.
hold power, volumedown, and camera, to format. it may take you back to download mode. format again til it goes to the connect to pc icon like during the update- go to zune and go to update then restore

I also have a bricked Focus which gets stuck on the boot screen. But it had nothing to do with the update process. It just bricked itself during normal use (without even using a MicroSD card).
I wonder if that fix would solve problems for these devices as well (which have a corrupt ROM).
I don't have the phone on me right now so can't test it, but I'm calling the retailer I got it from to send back my bricked unit since they weren't able to fix it. If this works, it would help a lot of people!

[Q]Bricked htc trophy when installing Mango !!

So here's the story ; I bought the phone worked normal , nodo installed , security update installed , i then register a developer account , installed mango beta 1 , then beta 2 , after that the leaked rtm mango, random restarts.I thought its normal since the drivers aren't updated for mango. Reverted back to nodo today so i can get the mango through official channel with the normal driver. I keep checking no mango , i then tried a disconnect trick a discovered on the forums. version 7401 was installed and then random restarts much often than usual. After disconnecting the phone on step 9 and removing battery couple of times phone booted up and stayed on. After that the Zune prompted me to install Mango. After doing everything zune said Step 8 of 9 Restarting your phone. Phone was stucked on HTC logo disconnected phone removed battery like i did before... but now i can't start it up , no logo no nothing , Power + Volume down does nothing... warranty is still valid though , should i send it for repair? Thanks for any reply
If it's a Verizon trophy, look at the leaked HTC roms, they are the same thing.... (version for version they are exactly the same as you get from the Zune download).
Flash that rom and you'll be on Mango final with all the features that you want.

Check in the HTC Trophy area on this site... there is a bunch of roms, find a NODO rom and put your phone in boot flash, flash it, it should get you back to a working phone.
I know about the CDMA version of the phone and you have the GSM, so I can't help you with the exact rom you need but, I am sure you can find it.

If it won't boot up, and no trick to make it boot up works, then get it swapped. No reason to ask here when no one here works for HTC or whoever you bought the phone through.
From the random reboots you mention, you might have had a semi defective unit from the start as it shouldn't be rebooting that much on you if at all.
Exactly the same problem here. Going to contact htc sav :/ to fix that.

This was the issue; how long did you wait?
I remember when I last upgraded, the phone ages to reboot. You have to be patient!
Same problem here.
HTC Trophy. Was on NoDo (7392 or something like that) and never installed any pre-release Mango. Phone is not developer unlocked or unbranded (it's VF).
Did the disconnect trick last night to get the update. It installs 2 updates and the first went fine but the second (which I think was the HTC firmware update) took quite a long time and eventually got to step 8 of 9 (restarting phone) but stayed there for at least an hour with the HTC logo on screen.
I left it and went to sleep. Woke up this morning with Zune still saying step 8 of 9 and phone blank.
Phone is completely dead. Whether it's unplugged, connected to PC or connected to the charger it won't power on. It doesn't even show the red or green power light. Camera + Vol Up + Power also does nothing. Checked battery with multi-meter and it has power so it's not a charging issue.
It looks almost like a hardware failure (by the fact that there's no activity at all). Maybe the firmware update taking so long overheated something in the phone.

I have the similar problem while updating to Mango. But my current state is a little bit different (may be a bit better then other people). It is stuck in the HTC logo screen.
I have can get into bootloader, but the official bootloader doesn't allow me to do anything.
dears
i have same problem with my trophy
first step: if your trophy can't enter boot mode you have to go to profisnal tool like Riff Box or ORT Box thay used JTAC method and you have to open your phone to connect JTAC cable then repir Boot area and no way to repir this area without this solution
after repir now you can enter boot mode
sec step : flash your phone with Correct flash files
but my Q is what kind of flash can be correct i try many but still hang on HTC logo
we need some one give us correct info about :
all flash file Brand or unbranded and what the true one
are we need to repir RSPL Or HSPL
These sound like factory faults to me. I've been playing around with different ROMs ever since I got my phone,no problem. The only things I wish I had were usb storage and tethering, I wish they were possible without going through an encyclopaedia of instructions, that's a sure way to brickville.
Sent from my 7 Trophy using XDA Windows Phone 7 App

I tried that a few times. In fact I left it plugged into the wall charger overnight. Still nothing.
I ended up getting a replacement phone from my carrier. Interestingly the battery was completely flat when I put it into the replacement phone. They only replace the main shell (refurb), not battery, charger cable or back cover. I had to leave it plugged into the charger for a minute before it turned on.
The difference between the dead phone and the replacement is that the replacement would charge (immediately showed red light when plugged in) but the bricked phone didn't charge or even seem to recognise that a charger was connected.
I do wonder what would have happened if I had charged the battery some other way and then put it back into the phone. I'll never know because the courier took my phone away when they dropped of the replacement.
The worst part was being without my phone for 4 days (over a weekend) and then having to reconfigure and reinstall everything on the new phone (because stupid Zune does not have any way to restore a backup to a different phone). I think the only thing I really lost was my text messages in the end.

Well I've had my phone for 7 months without any issues, including the couple of updates we've had since February. I think what caused the problem here was that the Mango update included firmware updates from the manufacturers. It actually applies one update, restarts the phone and then applies a second update which is the HTC Firmware update. That's the one that doesn't complete properly. Looking around online there seems to be a few HTC (Trophy and HD7) users experiencing the same thing.
I applied the Mango update to my replacement phone (also a Trophy 7) without any problems so maybe it only affects certain Trophy phones.
And I agree with you on the tethering - that's one of the main features I seriously miss from my previous phone!

Then a lot of people must have the same problem with their PC or USB port (including 3 people on this thread alone). I can't post links yet but if you do a Google search for "mango bricked HTC windows phone" there are quite a few links, each with multiple people having the exact same problem (completely dead phone, no power or lights at all). I wouldn't call it "widespread" yet but there's definitely an issue affecting certain HTC phones when updating to Mango.
I had done previous updates on that phone (using the same PC, cable, etc) without issues and the first part of this update worked fine (including the restart). Replacement phone (exact same model) updated fine on the same PC with same cable (including the HTC Firmware update).

[Q] Z1c suddenly died/bricked (stock lollipop)

Hi guys,
I'm new to this forum and haven't rooted or installed custom roms before, but maybe you can halp me with my problem.
The other day i was on my way to work, at home my phone was working just fine, but when i arrived, it was dead.
I put the phone on charge for the rest of the day, but nothing happened, only a dim flashing red light. Tried to reset in all possible ways.
I charged it with a usb power meter and it draws only about 20mA intermittently...
When connected with the sony bridge for mac software the phone isn't recognised at al. I tried pc companion in windows XP (in bootcamp).
and then the phone keeps connecting and disconnecting over and over.
I don't want to sent the phone out for repair, because there are a lot of pictures and other private documents on the phone and i can't erase the phone myself. Who knows what happens when the phone is repaired.....
Is there a way to get the phone back to live without erasing?
Thank you very much

open the sim card slot you will find a small red button (Reset button) there next to the sim press it until you feel 3 vibrations then don't turn on your phone charge it until full then turn it on if it didn't then again press the reset button and don't turn it on , go to pc companion>support zone>software update>repair my phone . and this will be your only hope and i'm afraid you will lose all data on internal storage

Nokia 6.1 completely dead after updating to pie

I just tried to install the pie update manually by downloading the zipped update, renaming it and placing it in the root and dialing the code. The installer started and took about 10 minutes to complete and asked to reboot at the end. Now after the reboot the phone shows absolutely no signs of life anymore.
The phone soesn't turn on, doesn't respond when i connect the charger (it doesn't even get warm) and nothing happens when i try to connect it to my pc. Did i mess something up? Does anyone know a way to bring it back to life?

This happened to me after a day of updating to pie.
I noticed that my phone is charging very slowly.I used ampere app from play store to measure the current...and found that current coming through charger is too low(about 100 milli amphour) and i thought it might be my charger fault.
Then i used another charger and got same result....i was totally shocked.!!
I don't know if it is a software problem or hardware.
So today i'm giving my device to Nokia service center......and lets see what exactly the problem is..
I think this is my last Nokia device....i'm completely dissapointed by Nokia!!
BTW...i didn't do it manually i got an ota update.
Hi,
this probably will not help much, think i have the same issue.
i have had my ta-1050 get stuck on bootloader? ~3 times now over maybe 6 months of ownership, the last time was my update this weekend to Pie.
rather frustrating .
Can see the device is stuck in bootloader when i plug the handset in to my windows computer\device manager, can see and under com ports the is a QDloader 8006.
then need to wait ~2days for the battery to go completely flat, then plug into fast charger and it boots up again.
if take device to nokia, pretty sure i will get no fault found by the time they look at it.
