[Q] Samsung Focus brick - Windows Phone 7 Development and Hacking

Look like my Samsung Focus is brick after doing reg hack for NODO. Zune software hung for a few hours on reboot screen. After cancel the Phone appear to be stuck.
Tried Formating using power+camera+volume done.
Any suggestion?

Try taking out the battery. Popping it back in, and try Volume Up, Power, Camera... Mine got stuck once, then I put it into Download mode... once it started, I took the battery out again... then put it back, and it booted up normally.
Outside of that, no clue.

Pop the battery out now... then reboot. Good luck. Again... this worked for me... I make no assurances.

Didn't seem to work it on the screen with picture of the phone and a computer to hook up.
Any other suggestion?

Nope. Sorry man... how long have you had it?

Take it into AT&T and be like... "I plugged it into my PC and tried to sync it and this happened."

I see thanks. BTW. How long do you wait when taking battery out?

Here is what I did... again, I make no assurances for your device...
I put it into download mode, waited a minute or 2... popped the battery out, popped it back in about 5 seconds later, did the re-format trick (vol down, power, cam) and that seemed to do the trick. Try that again. I'll be standing by.

I thought there was a restore mode in zune? Like you put it into download mode then hook it up to zune and it offers a restore option.

oh well didn't seem to work. Zune does have that but it gave an error when trying to restore it. thx all.

hold power, volumedown, and camera, to format. it may take you back to download mode. format again til it goes to the connect to pc icon like during the update- go to zune and go to update then restore

Okay finally there was a fix by Microsoft. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2530409
this did it for me

I also have a bricked Focus which gets stuck on the boot screen. But it had nothing to do with the update process. It just bricked itself during normal use (without even using a MicroSD card).
I wonder if that fix would solve problems for these devices as well (which have a corrupt ROM).
I don't have the phone on me right now so can't test it, but I'm calling the retailer I got it from to send back my bricked unit since they weren't able to fix it. If this works, it would help a lot of people!

[Q] I bricked my phone! what is F. reset time

hey every one I know there is 100 of I bricked my phones and it is usually just sponged. MY phone is bricked I can not do anythnig with it. But here is my question. What is F. time reset on odin? Normally i have it checked with auto reboot when i flash stock roms. but not for like modems. this is what i did. I started in cwm and did a back up then pulled the battery and put my fully charged battery in. Pressed 1 and power to go into download mode. opened odin pluged the phone in. waited for the com to show up. I loaded the Pit and loaded the pda with the Ef02 tar. uncheck the F. reset time and pressed start. the phone failed so I exit out of odin and pulled the battery pluged the battery back in and blam nothing. So figured it was to things either because I unchecked F reset or because I started from cwm and not from a fully booted up phone. Or it could of been a bad download but that would of sponged it right? IDK any help would be nice. Thank epic community
You can't get back to download mode?
no I wish. It wouldn't go into download mode or recovery or normal boot up. I took it to the sprint store and should have my replacement in like 2 or 3 days
remove battery
reinsert battery
press round button by the left camera area in for likea minute or so
place phone down on your desk for an hour atleast
go to starbucks or something then come home
now after that hour is up
try download mode again number 1 key and the power button
I had to do this once before and it worked great!

they will have the replacement in on tues or wednesday.
i told them that I have a spare battery and after i put the battery in and started the phone it fell and the battery came out. then told them that I thought i brokethe screen at 1st but when i tried pluging it into a computer it didn't connect and the keyboard doesn't light up. the did there test on it for 2 hrs and said they are ordering a replacement I still wanna know what F. reset time is and or does?
edit: also it didnt work.
If you think you "bricked" your phone, ie.. no sprintsung logo, no download mode, pulling battery (5+ mins), and still nothing.
Try this solution: pull the SD card out and leave it out, then try booting into download mode.

didnt work tried that also. it is a brick i tried every suggestion that was giving when the vision kernel 1.2 bricked phones, the reset button, letting it charge but I can not get it to do any thing. so till my replacement shows up I am using the rumor. the very first one. AND yes I am going crazy this phone sucks

HELP! Completely bricked my EVO 4G.

First of all, I know I am an idiot - so let's get that out of the way right now!
So, I have been using Mik 2.6 for several months now and loved it. But my phone ear speaker shorted out or something, and all calls sound very tinny and "crunchy". Also, every so often when I take photos the lower half of the image gets funky (like over exposure from a real camera). So, I decided to just try and restore to factory and take it to Sprint tomorrow.
Using the RUU gave me a problem. I would get so far then it would tell me (when looking for bootloader) that the usb wasnt connected to the phone or the computer. When I got that error on the computer, the phone screen was just a black screen with larger HTC logo on it. Couldnt go anywhere from there. Unplugging the device gave me the recovery screen with RUU option selected. I had to take out the battery to reboot from there. I tried to reboot the phone in recovery mode and maybe try to get to bootloader menu THEN run RUU. When I did that, I would get the same error. But when I restarted the phone, it would not boot all the way, but get stuck with the wallpaper showing, the power guage, and the 3g bars. It would never go all the way to the time/unlock screen.
So, I tried to reboot into recovery again from there... the phone vibrated three times and shut down. Now, it is completely bricked. It will not turn on normally, or in any recovery mode. In fact, when I plug it in to recharge - the light doesn't even come on.
SO - am I completely screwed? Is there ANYTHING I can do? Any advice, anecodotes, well wishes... anything would be appreciated! Thanks!
Have you tried taking the battery out for 5 minutes, placing it back in, then back on the charger? That'll let the capacitors dissipate, and make sure the battery isn't super drained.
I did, and it worked - to the point where it will start up and get right to the point of giving me the lock screen - but not quite. I can see the wallpaper. I can see the 3G up and down, and the signal bars... and the time. In fact, I even used my wifes phone to call mine, and it rang. But it didnt give me a way to answer the call. So now I can see all of the above, and a missed call icon!
So, I can also restart in Bootloader mode. Should I plug into my computer and restart in Bootloader mode and start the RUU?
Try restoring to factory by flashing the PC36IMG way. It eliminates the USB causing issues

Take the sd card out of the phone, mount to a pc via adapter, toss on the s-on zip, flash in recovery, or do the revolutionary method, depending on how you rooted, then do an RUU in PC36IMG form.
I would love to, but I cannot access the SD card right now. Trying to.

How do you not have access to it? Pop off the battery and remove it from the slot with the little tab. or you mean you haven't gotten it out yet?

Well you'll need a micro usb adapter to place it in computer, and still can't be read?
- take off the back cover
- remove battery
- there will be a lil 'lip' tab on the right side where the sd card car, pull up on it, then pull out the sd card
Yeah, I got the card out. Will have to go out tomorrow and get the adapter.
I just wonder why my phone will not restart all the way. It is so close. I even see notifications! My wife just sent me a text message. Well, I will get back to this tomorrow. Thanks!

Bricked?! [UPDATED]

I tried searching, but I couldn't find anyone with the same problem as me and I don't know what to do.. I'm kind of freaking out. The last update I installed was darkside beta02, and I was really liking it minus a few connection and call issues. Anyways, I was in my car earlier today and picked out a song on play music. The phone instantly turned off, and it appeared that it was about to reboot so I didn't think much about it. Nope. When it starts to turn on it rarely makes it past the samsung screens that pops up right when you start the phone, but it has made it as far as the swirling samsung s splash screen thing. It just acts like it is rebooting from that part and it's like a never ending cycle until I remove the battery. I can get the phone into download mode by plugging it into the computer, but it only stays on for a few seconds and then goes back to it's never ending reboot. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated, I really can't afford to have bricked this phone
UPDATE: I managed to restore the phone to stock, and I proceeded to root and put darkside beta 7.1 on it. Everything was running fine... For a few hours. It began to do the same rebooting described above, but now instead of looking like it's going to boot normally it goes straight to a screen that says "Firmware encountered an issue. Please sleect recovery mode in Kies and try again." with the phone model, "Custom Binary Download: No" and "Current Binary: Samsung Official" up top. It only stays at this screen for a few seconds before it starts back into it endless half-reboot. Any suggestions? This is frustrating me A LOT.
uh, have you tried charging it? Honestly at first blush it sounds like a dead battery.

Oops sorry about that. I would reset your flash counts and try and take it back to the store if possible... seems like your only option if you can't get into recovery. Or reflash stock. Then root again then clear cache and then factory defaults
If you can get it to stay on long enough-- in Odin

The problem is that I can't do anything but watch the phone start up for about 10 seconds, or be in download mode for about 10 seconds. Not much time to do anything.
That is why you reset flash counts before you go in... Google is your friend and try to unroot somehow--

I had this exact thing happen to me today!! For the last week or so, I would get a random reboot up to four times a day. This started happening after I flashed Whitehawkx UVLDE zip. What I did was left the battery in the phone let the constant reboot run until the battery died. Then I would try to get into download mode, but then it would reboot before Odin recognized it. I left the usb plug in the phone and took the battery out, the phone would still do the rebooting vibration. I just stayed with trying to get the phone to stay on long enough to get recognized by Odin. Leave the drained battery out of the phone for a while (your choice of how long, I left it for about forty minutes) and replace it, hopefully it stays on long enough to get recognized. Finally it stayed on long enough and I re-flashed ULKL1. Now I'm back to running TDJ's DARKSIDE. EVOLUTION.2 [BETA 3] and I haven't had any reboots where as before it would reboot within fifteen minutes.

Thank you! And when you say replace the battery, do you mean get a whole new one or put in the dead one?
Just put the dead one in.
My advice is similar to his, but without killing the battery. Open odin on your computer, and input what your going to input into pda and have everything ready to go, so all you have to do is press start and its off. Now, start with the phone turned off, hold both volume buttons and plug in the usb cable from the computer quickly! Have your hand ready on the mouse and ready to click start. Soon as odin recognizes click that start button! Hopefully everything happened so quick, that the phone will take the flash. However, if it doesn't, then I'm afraid the only answer you would have left is to use a jig to reset the counter and take it in to be replaced.

The thing is, it starts to start up, and you can clearly see that it's rooted. I feel like they won't honor my warranty.

Is my phone lost?

So i have had my zenfone for awhile now. i unlocked the bootloader and was able to root it with a temp CWM. it was going fine for a long time.
Then one day my phone started to act up. wouldn't read texts right, false notifications, and app crashing. i thought maybe i had a virus so i ran a cleaning app (Clean Master and Lookout) but they found nothing. so i thought why not restarting the phone? seems to work for some.... *sigh*
Upon restarting the phone i am now stuck on the ZenPhone flip case thing... with the info on the circle. i thought maybe i dropped my phone sometime or somewhere and the case got stuck. okay simple fix, i tried using a magnet to open the case... and it did nothing.
Then I tired going into recovery mode by going through fast boot. but selecting anything in fast boot causes the phone to "freeze" and endlessly vibrate. It can't even detect when its plugged into the computer so i cant do commands on it from fast boot. i cant even do it from the OS as i think when its in the flip thing it doesn't allow PC access (at least i think). but the strange part about being on the OS, is that when phone goes to sleep (screen turns off), it "freezes".
What i'm asking here is there a way to fix this or is this phone lost. i made this account just for this... please help!
Good luck, I wish I had never bought this phone. I've sent it back to A-Sucks two damn times and it's still nothing more than a phone that always has some kind of an issue.

I tried that. my computer, or any other computer i tried, doesn't detect its connected when in fast boot nor in the OS.
when trying to use the normal recovery on the phone. it gets stuck in an endless vibration until i turn it off.
Booting into anything (i.e. Normal boot, recovery) from fast boot causes the vibration hang

if the phone cannot be saved. i might as well sell it for parts.
Before that, have you tried totally discharging the battery, leaving for a day or 2 to get rid of any last traces of power from the RAM then recharging and starting up again?
Might be something screwy going on with the phones hardware but these things are literally PC's and sometimes they need to have a good shutdown to get rid of all the quirks stuck in ram.
If you don't want to wait, you could just open up and disconnect the battery. You were only going to sell as parts anyway....

Okay so good news. that actually worked... i think. i took the battery out for a bit and let it sit, then i put it back in and it booted up just fine!
but now i have a new issue, i can no longer talk on phone calls. speaker isn't working for some reason. might have put it back together wrong.
all things considered, thank you so much for the help!
No worries, good luck on the speaker issue...

Phone wont boot, what is the problem?

Today I was surfing the web and the phone locked up and restarted itself. Kept getting to the android screen with the red yellow and blue symbols then restarting. Left the phone alone to get back to work then the phone restarted finally went to use the phone and after about 3 mins froze up again. Now the phone won't get past the Google boot screen and if I want to try and power the phone on the power button has to be pressed in about 30secs to a minute of two.
Also i can't get into recovery mode reliably since if I select recovery the phone again freezes at the Google screen on reboot and never gets to recovery 9 out of 10 times other times I can get to recovery and then phone will then crash while in recovery or will allow me to use recovery long enough to wipe the cache and factory reset which neither has worked.
While Plugged into a charger and just sits there nothing on screen just a black screen.
Phone is on latest android unrooted and locked.
i had this happen to my SO's stock/locked/unrooted Nexus 6P.
Plug it into a PC, wait a couple minutes, then press and hold the power button for like 1-2 minutes.

I don't have any issues. I was just curious. I've just never heard of a fix for any phone that requires a button press for more that like 30 seconds.
So what is the expected outcome? Does the phone just reboot and simply function correctly? Do you have a link to the forum post you read this in?

That didn't work (15 seconds hold). Then I found this random post on XDA where someone said they held it for more than a minute, so i tried that.

Same exact problem. Phone was over 80% charged. Picked it up off of my desk at work to check the time and nothing. Just a brick.
Update*** I hooked the thing to power and nothing. So I just sat here at my desk for several minutes holding down the power button and the damn thing finally came back on. But I had to hold it for a very very long time, not the normal 10-30 seconds like it should take to do a hard power off. I'm talking minutes.

not sure why this worked, but it did. probably held it for 45s to 1m and it booted normally after that. honestly not sure what happened or why this worked.

I'm glad my old post helped! Just an update though, it did that a few more times and then eventually I had to have it RMA'ed as no amount of time would make it boot.

Already did. Trying any last ditch efforts to revive the phone oh well it was a good phone.

Yup same here. It can get to the boot menu but recovery only works 1/10 times and can't ever get through 54% of the boot log until it freezes and crashes.

Yup new one is getting here today. Anyways, before old one is sent off I am curious to see if the battery is even charging when I connect to the charger. Anyone know if I can use a multi-meter to check this?
