[Q] No Matter What, not detected by Computer - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

Hi
Apologies from experts if it feels like its a duplicate thread but
I have got my HTC Touch Pro (AT&T tilt 2) 3 days ago and I buyed it from here
cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-HTC-Touch-Pro2-Tilt-2-T7373-3MP-GPS-WIFI-SMARTPHONE_W0QQitemZ170623785892QQcategoryZ9355QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp5197.m7QQ_trkparmsZalgo%3DLVI%26itu%3DUCI%26otn%3D4%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D8458431053988178105
After I connects the phone to computer the orange lights up and it starts charging. At computer end nothing happens at all, even my computer dont detect it as a unrecognized device.
I have read like every similar thread and tried everything, different computers, different OS, different software, different cables and toggling between the options in my phone for advance/speed syn etc.... but NO MATTER WHAT IT IS JUST CHARGING THE PHONE.
I have Windows 7 and the my tilt 2 have WM 6.1
The only thing I doubt is USB cable because the cable I received from the seller is 5 Pin Mini USB cable where as original HTC Mini USB cable is of 11 pin. Could that be the residing issue? I tried other cables but they all were 5 pin.
Please help, I have 14 days to return out of which I have already wasted 4 days with no outcome except numb butts.....

Forgot to add I have tried Soft/Hard Resets too.......

Any standard MiniUSB plug should be fine. I haven't use the HTC plug in ages. I've been using whichever MiniUSB plug I have handy around my computer to sync and charge it. I don't even know where my original HTC one is. I don't think it was eleven pins, though (not on the mini-end anyway).

I made some research already on that and found it varies from case to case. There have been numerous cases where Standard 5 Pin mini USB cable didnt worked.
Even I checked Ebay and found there are 11pin Mini USB cable specifically designed for HTC models.

cgi.ebay.co.uk/USB-Data-Charging-Cable-HTC-Droid-Eris-Tilt-2-/290393821238?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item439cd21036
Is there Any other software that I can install for Syn and ROM update other than WMDC, ActSync and HTC Sync?
Can we Update ROM and install Windows 6.5 via blue tooth?
I havnt tried but I guess bluetooth will work atleast for WMDC.

As far as I know, the 11-pin cables are for the multi-support dongles. Syncing and transferring only need the regular 5-pin cables.
There is alternative software for syncing, but not for ROM updates. You need the driver software that is installed with WMDC to be able to communicate with the device. I have used BirdieSync with Thunderbird before with much success. You still need to have WMDC installed in order to use that, however.
You can't update ROMs via bluetooth. None of the radios are enabled in the bootloader sequence, so it isn't possible. You can sync and file transfer with it, but that is all.
You can update ROMs via SD card. Simple rename the *.nbh file to RHODIMG.nbh and place it in the root of your SD card (not in any folder). Hold down the volume down key while you press the soft reset button with your stylus. This will bring you into bootloader mode and will prompt you to flash the ROM image.
If the 5-pin MiniUSB cable isn't working for you, then I would think that you have either a defective charge port or bad cable. Both of those problems are pretty likely.

Thanks and what about windows update?
Can I upgrade current Windows Mobile 6.1 to Windows Mobile 6.5 via same or some other method?

If you have the official update from HTC or your carrier, then simply right click on the file, and select Extract. Do the same method as above with the extracted *.nbh file. You could also learn to flash custom ROMs.

Its was AT&T Tilt 2 originally but the seller unlocked it so from every side its just Touch Pro 2 now.
Now which update should I use for? still use AT&T Tilt 2 update? Will update of AT&T will lock the phone again?
Strange thing is that AT&T Tilt 2 always came with Windows 6.5 and in black body but mine is Silver with Windows 6.1.

All the Rhodiums originally came shipped with WM6.1. They were all updated after the release to WM6.5 since the update happened a few months after the device's release date. None of them were ever updated to WM6.5.3. This is where customs ROMs help fill the gap. Also, the Tilt 2 has a silver back cover. The European one has the black cover.
Unless the device is security unlocked, you are only going to be able to flash the AT&T ROMs. Flashing a new ROM will NOT relock the SIM card. The latest AT&T ROM uses Sense 2.5, but has been reported to be very slow after using it for some time.

But here the keypads (sliding querty keyboard) is also silver. The back silver battery cover says HTC Touch Pro 2. On Front top right it says AT&T logo and HTC logo on top left. Mobile restart startup screen also says HTC Touch Pro 2, no name of AT&T.

That's pretty typical. If you still need proof that you have a Tilt2, then simply look underneath the battery. Right above the gray portion with the barcodes, you will see a line of text. In there will be the model number in the form of RHODxxx, where xxx is a three digit number. Mine is the T-Mobile version (RHOD210). This model number will tell you the service your device was locked to if any.

Well, this actually presents a bit of a dilemma. That isn't the right model number for the Tilt2.
The one you need to flash would be the RUU_signed.nbh. Don't do that just yet, though.
Does the keyboard on your device look more like PICTURE #1, more like PICTURE #2, or more like PICTURE #3?

The keyboard is like picture number 2 and the screen and logo's at top are like picture number 1 that is HTC logo on top left and AT&T logo at top right.

OMG...!! I just checked the serial number of my mobile by *#06# and the number I got is different from the one printed on the back side after removing the battery.
Seems like the mobile I buyed is un-branded of any company. I think they are mixing and matching different mobiles parts with eachother....
The screen is of AT&T, keyboard is of Touch pro 2 and may be main board/bios of some other company......

That's what I was afraid of. They probably did a repair job and swapped the parts. The model number for the Tilt2 is RHOD300. You should try to get your money back if you can.

If you want to keep the device, it is going to act like a RHOD100, which is the International unlocked version.

Yes right and sorry actually they match, earlier I matched IMEI with serial number.
Its a unlocked version and I should forget about Tilt 2 now.
So now how am I going to upgrade to Windows 6.5? Where is it available for download?

It's on HTC's website. Just do the same thing as earlier. Now you're looking for the International version. Or just an unlocked European version.
EDIT: This should be the one you need.

Did I BRICK my T-mobile HTC TOUCH PRO2

Hi everyone. I hope I'm in the right forum. I need some hand-holding big time. This is the first time writing regarding a mobile phone Unlocker so please be gentile with me. I'm a virgin with phone unlocking matters and anything related to Unlocker issues here in the states.
This was all a bit confusing for me. I donated & obtained Olipro's Rhodium Sec / CID / SIM Unlocker to see if I could get Sprint's service to work on this phone. All went well with the unlocker steps 1 thru 3 until I got to the radio portion for the radio file 2.32.00WU.exe I downloaded from xda-developers.com's website. I ran this downloaded file in hopes that I now could get Sprints US service with my T-mobile phone. Weeeel, unfortunately my HTC T-PRO2 never came back to life after this 4th step. It did have a 90% battery charge when I started this whole process.
I purchased this phone brand new from an eBay seller a few weeks ago which was "supposedly" unlocked. I found out that "Unlocked" only meant it could see both T-mobile and AT&T networks, nothing else, even going manual. Useless...
My HTC T-PRO2 has the Win Mobile v6.5 update.
Did I miss something? Is this what is meant by the term "BRICKED"? Did I do something I wasn't supposed to? Did I just lose $20USD? Do I now have a $500 brick?
Thanks.

"Bricked" means you've rendered the phone useless, and generally unrecoverable, through a bad flash...that's one that either gets horribly corrputed, or when you use the wrong type of ROM, which is what it sounds like you've done. First, you can't use a GSM version of the TP2 on Sprint's CDMA network. Secondly, trying to flash a CDMA ROM on a GSM TP2 can indeed brick the phone.
I hate to say this, but if you had carefully and throughly read and understood all the instructions provided in both the HardSPL and the Rhodium ROM flashing threads, you would have seen the warnings against flashing the wrong type of ROM.
It's possible that you haven't totally killed your phone, but that's definitely a potential outcome here. While you're waiting for someone else to chime in with steps on how to possibly recover it, you might want to go back and read the guide to flashing ROMs on the Rhodium one more time.

Hi & thanks sirphunkee for the quick responses guys. I thought I was following the instructions by simply following the downloaded file's, RhodiumUnlocker.exe, simple three steps, the 3rd step requiring me to check the two boxes on the screen and committing the changes. That part all went well. Then it was the radio flashing part which is actually the 4th step. After that step completed & and it stated that my phone would now reboot/restart. It never came back. I now get absolutely nothing coming up on the screen, not even a power light. I plugged the wall charger in & I noticed that the orange power charging light comes on for about 2 minutes then goes away & then nothing for another 1-2 hours.
Any further suggestions are kindly appreciated.
In the meantime I've ordered the HTC HD2 T-mobile, supposedly "Unlocked", too. I'm definitely not going to try anything on that one until I see if this HTC T-PRO2 can be revived if it's not already dead.

No. I ordered the T-mobile HD2 for my girl who is quite happy with her T-mobile service. But I would've tried f-ing with it when she's not looking, especially since I'm buying it for her. I know, I know, " If it's not broke, don't fix it". But if I stuck with that theory I would never learn anything new nor buy any new gadgets.
if u want a tp2 with cdma and gsm capabilities you want a sprint tp2 has a simcard slot and all

OK this is dum, dum again. I mentioned that there is no screen on this phone now. My PC tries to recognize it for about 1 minute or two, then the phone's hardware signature disappears from my hardware list in Windows 7's Device Manager listing. It didn't do that before.
Now, how do I boot it into a bootloader? Is this another thing I have to buy or is this some magic mode/functionality built into the phone itself?
Thanks.
PS: I wasn't kidding when I said I'm a virgin at this stuff.

bootloader is built into the phone, nothing to download or buy.
hold the volume down button while pressing the power button up top when the phone is off.
If you can get this you might be able to flash the appropriate Rom and radio for the phone.

Nope. That didn't work. The orange LED comes on when I press the power button without pressing any buttons with or without pressing the Volume-Down button. Then every 2-3 minutes the phone tries to register itself in Windows' Device Manager showing up as "Qualcomm CDMA Technologies MSM" with an exclamation point under "Other Devices". This state lasts for about 1 full minute then it disappears from Device Manager in windows.

Yep, tried running the STEP-1/Hard-SPL app again & now the app. just freezes. I left it running for about 30 minutes & it never came back with any visual response even thought the PC doesn't recognize it.
I even tried the following Hard reset Steps from the wiki.xda-developers.com section for this phone:
* With the device turned off, press and hold the TALK/SEND and END/HANG UP buttons, then the press and hold the POWER button until you see this message on the screen.
* "This operation will delete all your personal data, and reset all settings to manufacturer default. Press ?VolUp to restore manufacturer default, or press other keys to cancel."
* Release the TALK/SEND, END and POWER buttons.
* Press the VOLUME UP button to perform the hard reset, or press any other button to cancel the reset.
If you have a Telus or Verizon TP2 (Sprint not tested but likely the same), the combination is different.
* Power off the phone using the 'end' key.
* Hold 'volume down' and 'send', the press 'end' till you see blue text. Follow hard reset prompts.

I think it's a dead duck.
You took a CDMA radio and flashed it to a phone that was made for GSM.
GSM - T-Mobile & AT&T
CDMA - Sprint & Verizon
You don't need to use Hard SPL again.Try to install a GSM radio and see what happens. When it's reading for that first minute, run the GSM radio installer.
If you can't get into bootloader you may be F-ed.
For kicks try to install a GSM rom if all else fails and then try the GSM radio again.
FYI - From my knowledge you can't cross over phone's using the opposite technologies.

Well that's not what the guys over at rhodium.htc-unlocks.com's SIM Unlocker says. I tried it, now I have a fried phone HTC TOUCH PRO2. ...and I'm out $20US. I did write them before I purchased their Unlocker, but I am still awaiting an answer which is now kinda too late for a response for me.
Moving on, though. They don't have a GSM Radioooo unlocker for me to be able to reflash this dead puppy. Oh, well. Poor me.

Buying a Blue Angel today?

Hi, my sister needs a low cost new phone and i've found, on eBay, some Qtek 9090 at 144€.
I know, it's a quite old device, but, viewing the tecnical sheet, it doesn't seems to be so bad... In fact, i'm asking you users, would you buy a Blue Angel today?
Of course i'd upgrade its ROM, it's dangerous?
Now i've got an HTC Diamond, is it really different beethween ARM and Xscale? Does it cause any compatibility issue?
And, important thing, is it strong? She's not very "soft" with phones
i would definetely buy one again, but not for 150eur! 30-60 maybe. on ebay, for 150 you'd get a touch pro or touch diamond in mint condition.
upgrading the rom is not dangerous. many people messed up their phones during upgrading, but there is always a pretty easy way to restore it. no mistake is fatal.

I couldn't find one for lower prices that meets my payments requests...
But this is not a problem
I've seen that flasing is a bit tricky compared to flashing the HTC Diamond, where you can just download the ROM and, if it's for Diamond, you can flash it without problem...
Here there are some IDs to edit before flashing, right?
no, i find the blueangel to be the easiest device to flash, no CID locking, no need for SPL changing... just bootloader, flashing, hard reset, and that is the same procedure for any device, just that the BA does not need to be unlocked before, just the extrom resize, which is not mandatory.

Uh Really?
What about this? It's useless right now? :O
the RUU checks for deviceID and countryID and other IDs, but by using a custom RUU and putting the device into bootloader mode before connecting to the pc, all those id checks are bypassed.
on the wiki page in your link, the topic is finding the correct STOCK rom for your device. but nobody uses stock roms with wm2003se anymore. all the roms offered on this forum work for all blueangel models, no matter if it's a t-mo mda iii or spv m2000 or siemens sx66 or whatever. the only device, that cannot be flashed with blueangel roms, is the harrier, the cdma version of the phone. but since there is no cdma network in europe, there is no chance of getting a harrier, plus, you would recognize a harrier immediately, because it has no sim card slot, because on cdma, that is not needed.
btw the best thing about the blueangel is the community i have a Blueangel, a Universal and a Touch HD and while the other 2 devices' hardware is way superior, their respective sections here on the forum are by far not as good as the blueangel's.

BA is slow ??? LOL not really it is faster as a Kaiser for example
I should get it today
The 400Mhz CPU is (by frequence) faster than my old Elfin (200Mhz) but it's an XScale based device, so i don't think i can directly compare them... What are the differences beethween XScale and ARM?
I have.. .. alot of devices. I like the blueangel. It's alot better than the newer phones, faster. I'd use a blueangel over any of the newer phones. Hermes was the last good phone put out by HTC.

Just a question: is normal that the slider is a bit "strong"? In fact, on mine, it doesn't open itself when i press it up (i am used to the new Nokia's sliders )
However i'd take it, but also my sister likes it

Put it back to what you had on before... if it works again you know theres something not right with your upgrade. Its also possible when you upgraded you had a "bad flash" when that happens all sorts of weird things can go wrong. That said, I'd still try the downgrade first and see if it works... if it does go back and RE-upgrade it and see if it works properly.
Other then that, if that doesn't work I'd be contacting T-Mobile and having a nice chat with customer service.

[SOLVED/Repaired][Q] HELP: Tmobile branded SGS 2X, Telus model number?

I recently purchased a Samsung Galaxy S 2 X. It looks to be Tmobile branded, is able to boot into stock recovery, seems to be SIM locked (my Virgin Mobile Canada SIM prompts me to enter a code), HOWEVER, and here's the fun part, when it boots up, it displays a Telus model number under the SGS 2X image, and says TELUS 4G on the boot screen.
Under Settings > about phone it says Model Number SGH-T989D, which I understand is a Telus Model Number, even though you'll see from the pictures it's Tmobile branded.
Did the previous owner root it, flash a stock Telus ROM, then unroot it and sell it to me? There is no Superuser in the app drawer, and I have no idea how else it would have become like this.
The main reason this is a concern is because the USB port doesn't work!!! It doesn't charge, it isn't recognized when plugged into a computer, nothing! I have to use a separate wall charger for the battery, and as of right now I have NO idea how I can root or do ANYTHING without a functional USB port. There is no sign of damage to the port, and the phone itself is in perfect condition. The previous owner will not respond to my questions.
I don't even know if I'm able to SIM unlock it at this point, because I don't know if the model and phone mismatch will cause any problems.
I do have some experience with rooting and flashing and all that fancy stuff, as I've played around with several other Android phones (SGS Vibrant, Moto Atrix, Nexus One, etc), and currently also own a modded Milestone and Amaze.
Pictures are attached below, ANY help would be appreciated!
***edit: When I boot into what I assume is stock recovery (vol up + vol down + power), I get:
Android system recovery (3e)
Enter: OK Key, Select: Vol UP / Vol Down
reboot system now
apply update from sdcard
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
(then it has some really funny thing I've never seen before on other phones in any recovery... see picture for detail)
What files can I flash using "apply update"? I figured out that to select an option I need to press the Home key. Is this stock recovery? I can't seem to find a complete guide on this! Help please!

Did you try more than one usb cable?
I have tried the one it came with, a Blackberry USB cable, and a standard one I found lying around. I have tried in a computer, and plugged into an adapter in a wall. I have tried it with the phone on, and with the phone off.
And you know how the stock Samsung charger notoriously "humms" when plugged into an outlet, but stops as soon as it's plugged into a phone? The humming stops when I plug in the microUSB to the device, but the battery doesn't charge, and continues to discharge.
*** I mean, it's possible that the USB port is damaged, but is it possible at ALL that it isn't being recognized because of some software bug? Is it a big issue that it's Tmobile branded but somehow has a Telus model number (which looks like it's stock Telus, not a custom ROM)?
well, it could be the screen has been busted and replaced with the Tmobile branded screen? Probably not, but a possibility.
have you tried to put a rom on a SD card, insert it and try doing a wipe, clear etc and then load up the new rom? for that matter, try doing a wipe etc and reboot without loading a new rom,
as for it showing as telus during boot and not tmobile, i don't think that's a concern. I've got a telus phone but when i boot up, it has t-mobile all over it due to the fact i'm running a t-mobile based rom.
Some one probably flashed the telus rom to that tmo device.
If the usb is not working and you have tried multiple cables, its busted. its pretty cut and dry. the computer should at least detect a device is plugged in.
Take a look inside the usb port and make sure it does not have any bent pins or some one didn't force a micro-usb cable in it upside down.
You could have a repair shop take a look at it. If its just the USB port they can replace that for around 30-50 bucks. It sucks but better than scrapping and starting over. There are usually places local that can do it, or I've heard of mobiletechvideos.com that seems to have a good record although I have never used them.

Giving thanks where thanks is due here, but thank you EVERYONE for taking the time to check out my post, all of your answers helped a little.
SOLUTION: (at least, what I think is the scenario)
It is indeed a Telus phone. Through IMEI checks, and of course the model number and boot screen, I found out it definitely is the T989D model. I'm certain of this because I bought an unlock code today, put in the IMEI, indicated it was locked to Telus, and the lock code successfully unlocked it, no problems.
The screen must have broken, and the previous owner replaced it, probably by himself. I think most likely by himself, and THAT'S why the [seemingly brand new and undamaged] USB port, and more recently I've discovered the [undamaged] microSD slot, are completely nonfunctional. He must have messed up a little while replacing the screen, damaging the connectors somehow. I have yet to tear it apart to check, but that's next on my to-do list.
So thanks everyone, I've gotten as much information as I need right now, and working toward a happy resolution

[Q] Changing region and language of HTC one x

Hello Guys,
I am a newbie here & would appreciate your help in following matter.
I bought a HTC One X from Bangkok and i m using it in India now.I am facing following issues.
1. I suspect that the phone that i bought was AT &T locked phone earlier and i might have been cheated by the seller in this regard. My question is how do i confirm whether this is an AT&T unlocked Phone?
2. The language of applications installed on the Phone is chinese and i cant seem to get rid of the language even after changing the language from settings page. How do i get it to be in English completely?
3. Indian carrier SIM apart from CELLONE does not detect or register on any network here. and the SIM slot is a normal one not a micro SIM Slot. Does this Phone require any special kind of SIM card?
4. Even Google Play is not there. whenever i try to download anything a page in chinese opens up. And i do not know chinese.
4. Will rooting of my phone help in any of these regard? I even dont know whether this Phone was a rooted one.
Please Help somebody....
Thanks & regard..
Nix.
You are the proud owner of Chinese knock off. Sorry to hear you got fleeced.

Well i am sure that its not a chinese knock off atleast.. but this may be AT&T unlocked, that i am confused about...
Got to<settings <about<software information. Take a screenshot and post here.
here is the screenshot.. plz help dude.. i am all confused right now
Looks like it could be a really old build of HK firmware, but the kernel date doesn't make sense.
Try flashing the latest HK RUU (1.29.708.15) http://www.filefactory.com/f/7cc7b2fbdd03c031/
I'll leave it to you to find a username and password that works, but it's been posted in this forum more than once.
Strange, Also you mentioned that the phone takes a full sized sim not micro sim. Check the HOX's spec sheet and you will find that they were manufactured with micro sim slot only.
Maybe it IS a knock off OR someone modded the build.prop and sold you a Desire X?
i am uploading my factory mode screen. Please see if you guys can help
The number of speaker holes are less that the genuine one x. I think you have been fooled. The Hboot that you have is different. Check the attached pic.
Well this just gets stranger and stranger.
Doesn't look like a real One X I'm afraid.

yeah, it definitely seems that i have been fooled now. Any ways, is there any way to know the device hardware configuration, so that i may be able to flash it to atleast use it here in India.
Is there any ROM compatible to any handset?? If so, Then how do i go with it?

I was trying to be sensitive in my previous posts, and felt for you. Best you leave the rom as is, chances are if you try flashing you could end up with a brick.
sorry to bring this post back to life.. but need help.
my cousin from europe gave me his old HTC One X for my parents to use. but they need that to be in traditional Chinese language system.
can someone help me? I have posted up the SW and kernal version for your reference.
Thank you.
