Bootloader with Froyo - Defy General

Hey guys,
i just flashed the new UK Firmware for my Defy and installed the Pays Froyo Rom.
But now i noticed that its not possible to get into the bootloader and wipe my phone like in Eclair. I started it with VOL down + power button and when the Android appears and i touch in the lower right bottom, no menu appears....
Any hints ?
Thx in advance !

when green android appears press vol + and vol - together

touching the lower right bottom is the eclair way of getting into the recovery.
in froyo, you'll have to press volume up then down quickly (almost like pressing up + down). of course, you'll have to install recovery for it to work in the first place

Triangle appears after
press vol + and vol - together

And to avoid future confusion, that is recovery but not bootloader

bootloader - hold power button and vol+ together
recovery - hold power button and vol- together
in recovery mode, hold vol+ and vol- together to show the menu(Froyo)
press power button to confirm

Thanks to u all guys, i finally got it
I would like to know how i can turn my phone back factory settings because i got problems with the phonespeaker...
I know where i can find the stock sbf.file for the german defy, so i flash the sbf.file and thats it ? Where i can get the original stock rom ? (i live in germany and bought the phone in a shop, so ist not branded)
Many thanks in advance !

The stock sbf is the full rom. It should be something like 100-300mb.

So all i have to do is to factory reset and flash the sbf file and everything is undone including root ?

It won't boot if you flash a 2.1 sbf after flashing a full non-fixed 2.2 sbf. Check http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=999566 for downgrade to 2.1.

I'm just lu guo..

[Q] Need Help for Upgrading my Defy

Hello guys,
I need help for upgrading my Defy to the last blur-less rom in 2.2.1.
What I did :
I had the motorola 2.1 stock rom.
I used superonclick to root my defy.
I had a custom recovery installed maybe the one with superoneclick.
I used Rdslite 4.9 with this rom : 3.4.2.-155-2 here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=978792
I flashed my device, it restarded, it booted with the "M" of motorola and the "android" logo and that's it, it doesn't go further.
I tried after that to flash differents .sbf of differents versions but some bricked my phone. I reflashed to the 3.4.2-155-2.
Now I still have the booting sequence until "android" logo. I can boot in "flash mode" 9.10 and I can boot in recovery but only to the trinagle, when I click on the bottom right of the screen it doesn't do nothing. edit : In fact I found an other post that says that we can boot in recovery by pressing up volume and down volume button at the same time.
What can I try now ?
Thanks for your help
edit : It's ok now, I could wipe my date and now it works fine. A lot of stress but it's ok now.
OK I've just recently upgraded my 2.1 to the UK 2.2.
When you go into recovery & you see the android logo the bottom right hand of the screen only works in 2.1 I believe so for 2.2 you need to press the volume up & volume down buttons both at the same time. This will take you to the recovery screen & you then use the volume button to choose the action eg; reboot, clear data etc & then press the power button once to confirm that action.
Hope that helps

[Q] Bricked Moto Defy

I have bricked my Motorola Defy.
I have tried flashing a new ROM using RSD Lite (following this guide). It says 'complete' but my phone will not turn on. Sometimes it will just show the Moto boot logo but never fully boot up. I can only open the boot menu.
The ROMs I have tried flashing can be found here (All UK 2.1 at the top of the page).
Background - I got into this mess by attempting to flash the Gingerbread UI ROM (here).
Does anyone have any ideas? I would really appreciated any suggestions.
Thank you.
Probably you have flashed a firmware which cannot be downgraded to eclair. Try to get again in the bootloader and flash a froyo build (the official french one, for instance).
Hope this helps

but supposedly it is still an éclair ROM so it shouldn't be the reason... best thing would be to flash an original 2.1 rom, I'm sure you can find one on the development section. Make sure to have a fully charged battery though - charge it on someone else's phone, for example.
It's most likely a problem with cache. Power your phone with Volume Down holded, when in recovery press Volume Up + Down, clear data/factory reset, clear cache.

Hey.
I have just tried this using the Australian version from here:h**p://and-developers.com/sbf%3adefy
Unfortunately, it did not work. I still cannot boot the phone.
Thanks for your advice, do you have any other ideas?
Have you tried one of the 2.51 version roms?
like JRDNEM_U3_2.51.1 Blur or
JRDNEM_U3_2.51.0 deblur.

Hi, yes I have tried the UK JRDNEM_U3_2.51.1 from here. Is that the same as blur or deblur?
Thanks.
Just an update...
All ROMS I have tried have installed OK through RSD Lite. The result is always 'Finished' or 'PASS'. But then when I try to turn my phone on, it never boots up.
I really appreciate the replies so far. If anyone has any further ideas, I would love to hear them.
Thank you.
UPDATE
I have just flashed the latest froyo leaked ROM as suggested around the net. Slight progress, the phone now boots to the moto boot logo but no further?
Does anyone have any ideas from here?
Thank you.
you do know that after flashing an sbf it takes a very LONG time to boot the first time! I just hope you are not giving up after a a couple minutes of M logo and pulling the battery or something it literally takes like 5 minutes.
You said you are still able to enter bootmenu? That is not possible after flashing an sbf, as it wipes the bootmenu away! Are you talking about bootloader?
Pull the battery and immediately put it back in while holding vol down. If the phone does not turn on just by inserting the battery then continue to hold vol down and press the power button for about 3 seconds, do not let go of vol down. Continue holding vol down until stock recovery appears.
Once you're in stock recovery press vol up AND vol down at the SAME TIME. Now use the volume toggle to select wipe date/factory reset, use the power button to make your selection, then wipe cache partition. Reboot
Walk away for like 5-10 minutes and check back on it.. Theres no reason it shouldn't work

Hey,
I have just got back from dropping of the phone with T-Mobile - Damm!!!!!!!
Thanks for the detailed explanation. I must have talking about the bootloader. Not the menu. I will head back to the shop in the morning and collect it back off them. Hopefully as it is a Saturday they have not sent it off?
Sooooo frustrating!!!!!!!!
I will update you when I have got it back and tested the above.
Thanks again,
Chris.
LOL I know what you mean... I had instant heart failure the first time I was stuck in a bootloop!!! Thought I wasted $400
I just panicked and gave up.. damm! Loads of people have said that its almost impossible to brick a defy. Fingers crosses thats true!! Lol
First, sorry for my english.
I have a similar problem. I flashed the official french froyo.
First it runs good. But today, two days later, the defy reseted automaticaly.
Several times.
Then I did a wipe. At the end the defy reseted automaticaly and stopped at the motorola logo. I flashed again. At the end of the flash, when RSD boots the defy, it stopped at the logo again. After...it must have been 15 minutes I pulled the battery and tried to get into the bootloader for a wipe.
But I can't enter the bootloader (vol up + power). The motorola logo appears and nothing happens. The last time I waited over 30 minutes.
OK, I have my phone back from T-Mobile...here it goes!!! (fingers crossed).
EDIT
Battery is out - will re-charge with the USB cable trick..

Hey, I am still have issues...
I have charged it up but cannot access recovery. I have tried taking out the battery and putting it back in while holding vol down but no luck. I have also tried holding the power button as well like you said.
I am going to leave it charging even longer to see if that helps.

Can you tell me how to wipe the phone?
I got stuck when i press volume down button it appears a little android
To enter stock recovery start your phone by pressing Vol Down + Power. Then when the android icon with the exclamation mark appears press the right bottom of your screen (if you are on Eclair) or press both Vol Up + Vol Down buttons if you are on Froyo. Then for navigation use volume buttons and for selection/enter use the power button.

Still don't work i root with ginger break, then i flash with RSD Lite when the phone restart i press vol down button i do wipe data/factory reset ,i reboot the phone and nothing
I'm not sure if I got it right but you are saying that you have rooted it with gingerbreak. If I'm not wrong you are/were for the moment on Eclair of Froyo so you do not need to use a tool that is useful to achieve root on Gingebread. You must install Gingerbread first then root it.
I must admit that I haven't tried this ROM (there were so many bugs reported on the ROM thread so I decided I'll stay on latest CM7 beta) but you can try it on your phone using one of the next methods:
A) By applying a nandroid backup and then flashing a fixed SBF (by doing so you'll keep you downgradability)
- install ClockworkMOD recovery
- wipe cache, data, dalvik cache
- install the nandroid
- reboot phone in bootloader
- apply fixed SBF
B) By applying a full SBF
- reboot in stock recovery
- wipe data, cache....
- reboot in bootloader
- flash full SBF
Then you can root it with Gingerbreak.
Sincerely I strongly recommend you to install a more stable ROM like the Nordic one or the official French (both based on Android 2.2.2).
Hope it helps. It you'd like I can give you more details via private messages in Romanian.

in the future... please read all the tutorials and be prepared for anything you are going to do on your phone.
1. Turn off your phone
2. Go to recovery (hold Power + Vol-)
3. When the android triangle shows up pres Vol+ and Vol- buttons at the same time
4. Wipe data
5. Wipe cache
6. Reboot your phone and go to bootloader (Power + Vol+)
7. Flash your SBF via RSDlite
That`s the whole procedure how to downgrade to Froyo. I think that you forgot to do some of these steps but in my opinion go again from the beginning.
EDIT: Seems I`m 2 min`s too late
yeah thats all rite , but now what should i do ? i flashed it 2-3 times. but i ain't getting any kind of recovery . its just struck on boot screen. tell me how would i wipe cache when there is now recovery coming out.?

Yes mine worked on kitkat but now on mm volume up and power only lead to rebooting. If I flash stock recovery again is there good?
Is this phone fully stock, or was it modified at one point (unlocked bootloader, root, custom recovery, etc.) then returned to stock ROM and stock recovery?
