I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong here. It is under 190 frames total, png images, all 480 x 800 but nothing plays. stays for a second and skips to being booted.
It is based off my favorite game, Shin Megami Tensei (it's the opening computer scene where the demon summoning program is first activated)
I just don't know where I went wrong on this.
Part 0 should play once, Part 1 should loop
could someone take a look at this and tell me what I did wrong?

Try this in the desc.txt
480 800 5
p 1 1 part0
p 0 1 part1
No change, sadly. There's gotta be something else I'm doing.
Wait are you saying that it plays a little bit of it then skips to the rest of your boot... or the screen goes black? Basically, what happens after what you want to see stops?
I noticed your FPS is set at 5, which is pretty slow. Maybe increase the 480 800 5 to 480 800 15 and see where it gets you, if you're only getting to part of your animation before the rest of the boot sequence (the part that doesn't have a boot animation) continues?
Hey guys, I rezipped it a different way that should work and changed the FPS to 30. I tested it on my phone and it worked fine. Nice boot by the way!
Let me know if it doesn't work.
@thegregbradley Actually all it would show is a black screen for a couple seconds, and then nothing.
@illinois08 Thanks, I'll try it out. Reflashing CM7 Nightly atm, so I'll have to get to it here in a few minutes. I'll edit my post with the results.
EDIT:
@illinois08 It works! Now I just have to tweak it so it actually gets to the final loading screen!
Well, once I finish and adapt it, I'll be able to upload it, the splash screen and begin work on the ADW theme to go with it. Thanks for your help!
Nice! I'd say just increase that FPS even more and see if you can get it to play all the way through before the boot finishes. I have no idea what the boot is from, but it looks way cool, considering running it myself

I'm gonna start taking requests for boot animations, so if there are any that you want whether it's a video from youtube or a personal animation, let me know. I enjoy doing these alot and I'm working on my own theme so look out for that also. Glad I could help though!

A bootanimation idea I've thought of before is sort of Leaving the HTC EVO 4G image and one second later it starts dissorting or burning down into a nice animation. Get me?
The white screen: when it finishes loading to start the boot anination, it should look as if the image IS part of the boot screen animation... It just breaks down violently and then starts to deform or rip appart to start the boot animation. So you won't have 2 seperate images at startup (Evo 4G screen + animation)
Make it one run-on animation....
By tthe way, that can be just the start.... No idea of the rest of the animation

nice. sexy pictures!!
Nice!!! now.... which one goes better with Black, hummm.
Love that first one...very nice.

Pictures are really good but why don't you create them for landscape mode too?
As I understand you should make them 320x320 with 2 HTC logos.
One of these logos will stay nearly the same place where it placed now (for portrait mode).
The second logo should be placed at the middle of the right side of the picture for a lanscape mode.

Will do. Question though. I can make these very fast and easy, but to get them to fit just right, what should I save them as? jpg, gif, png? I'm getting a stretched effect when I set them to the background image. Basically I want the logo and any part of the image to show WXACTLY where I put it.
Try making them 240 x 268.
Wow...
Wow, man...
Amazin wallpapers! The 4, 5 n 6th are simply wonderfullll...
Thanx a lot for sharing
I started this last night when I came across a sweet site full of awesome desktop walls and thought why not make'em for our phones. If anyone has a wall they want converted and the logo added, put it in this thread and I'll convert it for ya. Gonna make some more later and tomorrow. It's OH-BEER-THIRTY hours and I'm late for formation. hehehe
New wallpapers...
ronfin44,
Could you send me the HTC's logo and a "how-to" to insert the logo on the pictures? Can I use a simple program to do this? (cos I don't know how to use a Photoshop or Corel...)
I'd like to know how to do this because I'll not be crazy to asking you to convert all this pics on .zip files for me...
I resized a lot of pics that I have. If you want, I can upload all of them (more than 1k). I selected some and uploaded (more than 100). Take a look to know if you like. Now, I really don't know what pic I'll use for my new splash screen...
Regards.

Here's how I lifted the logo to use. I opened an image with the logo already on it, used the magic wand item to highlight each letter, then copy the letters one at a time and paste them on a blank bankground and save it as a png file so when you copy it later to paste onto another image it'll retain the transparency.

I use Paint Shop Pro 7. Work with a bmp or png format, and once your final screen is finished, save it as a jpg to drop the file size. You don't have to save as a jpg, but it saves space.
I'm makin more right now.
Yep...
Yep, I instaled Photoshop CS2 9. I don't have any idea how I can use a lot of the tools it has, but I could create a splash screen for Pro Black 2.5. I'll change a little, but its done...
can u guys post these without the HTC logo
Sure. Any one in particular?
hey guys so im working on making the jpegs from maxisma's dump into a gif for those of us with an htc build and wanting such a bootscreen. problem is it becomes messed when replaced and booted into. Ne gif experts ? heres the gif

Hmm thanks for the info, but i think it is resized. What i did was take the jpeg's found in maxisma's dump and just adjusted each images offset so they would be centered in a 320x480 image. You guys are saying to scale down, im confused cuz the image's dimensions are 320x480 when i view its properties. Sorry, im not THAT good with animated gifs.

Yea same, im intrigued as well since it is an awesome bootscreen. Will keep giving it a shot, i think it might be the bit depth or frame-rate thats messing it up.
Ugh, i still cannot get it to work, all i see is a screen that looks like your tv when the cable goes out (the black and white scribbles all over) i even tried a method where i place each frame as an image in the bootscreen and in the xml cal them each individually, still did not work. Does htc encode their gifs or something lol.
started working on this yesterday, and will continue now. btw, the images were not scaled to 320x480 this is the g1's screen size. the images are scaled to fit the droid's screen which is 480x427 if im not mistakin. I resized every single png.. had to be 50 somethin pngs..

yea so i had 3 diff. ideas on getting this 2 run but all of them were squashed.. if u notice, there's a bootanimation script that goes in /system/bin.
pushed it there, put bootanimation.zip (resigned w/ resized images) and changed the values in desc.txt to 320x480.. no luck. so i also looked into droid's framework-res.apk in /assets to see if they had more resources for their bootanimation but what they have there is the stock android bootanimation last but not least i took a look at the bootanimation script and noticed it calls about 10 libs which i was about to locate in the droid dump, however cm's build has these same libs too!! so i'm bummed. i think we've hit a tree.
Hmm so did u try creating a gif out of it and trying it out on a htc build ? if u dont have a htc rom setup u cud send me the gif and i could try it out. but yea i think we've hit a tree lol
Hmm now im interested, has anyone ever managed to replace the bootscreen gif's on a htc build with a custom created gif ?

Hmm dont know why but did u try actually booting with this gif ? i think the bit-depth is too high/low...now if only this software was free as this is the only one i can edit gifs and they actually work as a bootscreen .. but once i get the color working, i can make the image larger than 320x480 and the "registered text" might be cut off.
Ok so got the colors and everything right, now all thats left is the offset since it appears in top left corner, ne clue guys ?

I have to try and compress the shizzz outta this thing cause right now it's slow and 23MB!!!. The link is below if you want to try it, but make sure you have enough internal space on your phone or it could be a problem.
1st loop is slow but it picks up, then slows again.
I will try and get this thing compressed so it is smoother and way smaller.

Hi,
nice animation. but the background layer is not "full" black.
can you change this?
EDIT: another ROM and no problem with layer
got a good bootanimation idea if you'd like to make it
make the GNexus text larger and have the "X" symbol of Nexus pulse in the background like the N1's bootanimation.

What's the issue? Could you see the background? I can try to make it transparent but that won't be for a few days because I'd practically have to start from the beginning again, and I don't feel like it. I made a version that was full 720p images but the initial sequence ran much slower than it does now and looked pretty bad. You can download it From my rootzwiki thread if you'd like, but I don't recommend it.
I think it might look even better with the X rotating around the vertical axis.
I really like this boot animation. Nice and clean. I think it'd be cool to see a version that went vertically down the screen (yes, sideways) and was bigger. Thanks again!
Nice work. Thanks.

I'm running ARHD and the galaxy nexus has a bit of a grey bar around it rather than being the same black as the background
I tried using a different ROM but it still did it

good job anyway
maybe mine is an isolated incident?

I, too, see a lighter grey box (the dimensions of the boot images) when booting up. I pushed this boot image to my stock, non-rooted, LTE Galaxy Nexus.
Love it

UPDATE!
Thanks for all the great feedback.
It's taken me a while, but I've updated it with a larger logo and a much cleaner animation. Still needs a small tweak, but I'll get to it eventually.
The update is in the OP.
Thanks for this! It's not quite working perfectly for me though, so here's another data point to add.
I'm seeing a non-black background in a horizontal strip behind the text. In the latest version the gray background occurs when the text is initially being drawn from left to right. But once the text is drawn and the multicolor X starts to spin, the gray background disappears and all of the text is on a black background.
On the original animation with smaller text, the gray background appeared behind the text for the entirety of the animation. This newer one seems to be an improvement in that regard at least.
I'm running stock 4.0.2 unlocked and rooted on a VZW GN for reference.
Thanks for this animation: clean, elegant. Just right.
hey thank you for this bootanimation, however there is a minor issue i found... when it changes from "wipe" to "rotate" you see it jump. and why didn't you use a resolution of 1280x720 instead of 160x720?

Yeah i noticed that two. There are two different sequences, one unfolding the wording and the other with the rotating logo, and the text seems not to be perfectly aligned in both of them.
Wynalazca, i am loving this animation. Thanks a lot for your effort on it.

I wanted something more... "official" looking but not static and not looping. There are only a few looping animations I like.
Based on a very smart suggestion from kevinrocksman, I made an extra version that's more optimized (cut the number of images in half and halfed the framerate).
Plus side: half the filesize. Slight downside: not as buttery smooth as my original incarnation, but still very good.
NOTE: Filesize is average. 3.91MB
Download Link:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/46yv2jcahoklmqd/gn2-progressbar_optimized_v2.zip
Original incarnation with boatload of frames. Use this if you don't care about filesize and want buttery goodness.
CAUTION: Filesize is pretty big. 7.82MB
Download Link:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/1c4s8ofc89x7mtb/gn2-progressbar2_optimized.zip
The "progress bar" starts at ~17 seconds (27% for me) since thats the amount of time it takes for the boot splash screen (the static SGN2 logo) to load.
After that, each frame denotes +1 px of the bar. There's a total of 462 frames. That equals 462 separate PNG's (this is the reason of the huge filesize). I have the framerate set to 10fps by default, since my note 2 takes about 1:30 to boot (i know, very slow, but I have over 300 apps installed and some other garbage) If you have a snappier boot up time, adjust the framerate to a higher number until the bar "progresses" at the desired rate. Like I said, this is a "progress bar", but you'll have to calculate the progress manually.
once you have is set, I guarantee you it'll be smoooooth as butter. It looks very nice and not too outlandish. I made it for myself, but figured I'd share it with the world.
EDIT: Added a new version. Half the frames, half the framerate, half the filesize,
Have fun.
Nice
I like this idea and will give 'er a try. I have a ridiculous amount of apps and scripts so this might give me something to stare at and ***** while rebooting lol!

I wanted something more... "official" looking but not static and not looping. There are only a few looping animations I like.
CAUTION: Filesize is pretty big. 7.82MB

..ok 1 quick question, why is it 400+ images?, u could cut that in half and it would still be smooth

true. but it'd only be half as smooth. Plus, it doesn't strain the system that much.
This is a good idea, however; and I am going to make it so.
UPDATE: I made one. It's not as smooth. Maybe because i've been staring at this thing for so long. I'll still upload it though. It does speed up boot-time by a couple of seconds.
Again, thanks for the suggestion.

couldnt u get rid of the extra black on the bottom? That might make it a tad smaller also

The extra black acts as padding. If i get rid of it, the "Samsung Galaxy Note II" text wont align up with the boot splash.

You don't unzip them. You have to put them in a folder...just cant remember the exact location of the filder (need root explorer)
I use ROM Toolbox to do the heavy lifting for me. I point it to the downloaded file, and hit "install" it does the rest.
Found it: Put the zip in /system/media
sorry, I failed to mention, once you choose the version you want (they look the same, just filesize that's different), you copy it to
/system/media
then you rename your current bootanimation.zip to bootanimation.zip.old(or however you rename a backup)
Then rename the file you copied there (in this case gn2-progressbar2_optimized.zip) to bootanimation.zip
Hello,
Will this work on Stock 4.1.2 ROM?

Yes for sure
Hmmmmm....I keep trying but it doesn’t seem to be working.
I have properly renamed the file and set permission.
I have a question I hope you can answer. I have a custom boot animation with sound. My issue is that I can sync the audio with the animation. The animaton will boot first then shortly after the sound chimes. is there a way I can change this or is that how the boot order is supposed to be?
