[Q] slow quadrant - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

does anyone know why my quadrant speeds are so slow on EC05? i was running midnight 4.2 on EB13 and getting ~2300 quadrant scores with conservative setting on setCPU.
I recently odined to eC05 and re-rooted and tried out the new ec05 syndicate rom. got scores barely around 2000. i thought it may be the rom (which i thought was weird) so i'm now on midnight 5.2 and getting around the same speeds.
I just checked in the syndicate thread and some users are posting 2300 scores...
Any ideas guys?

All I'll say is, I wouldn't be switching out roms based on slightly lower quadrant scores.

err well ... it's the same as going to any rom, just testing different things out....
back to the original question though... is there something i can do about this? it seems like something that happened only as i went to ec05. i havent odin'd back to EB13 yet because of the 2300 quadrant score posts from other users.

I to have noticed lower scores..

The scores are lower on Syndicate, K0nane assures us it's a Quadrant problem. Nevertheless, I've noticed no loss in speed in any use of the phone, Quadrant's "test" be damned!

After flashing the ROMs did you guys check your SetCPU settings to make sure you were at the same clock speeds before flashing when you got the higher quadrants?

On eb13 the rom devs used a modified sqlite. This fluffed the scores in quadrant. This modified sqlite caused more problems then it fixed and it turned out to be another quadrant hack like mounting the tpmfs. Run smart bench and I net the scores are nearly identical

[Q] wtf

can someone please inform me how the tmobile galaxy s phone can reach quadrant scores of 2400 and im only pushing 1200
I've hit 2700 on my Evo my penor is HUGE!
haha funny i actually seen his quad score so i know its true
I wouldn't think too much of it. Cyanogen showed that the difference between 1200 and 40 gabillion in quadrant can be something as rediculous as the filesystem. I don't put much weight in those scores when comparing different phones.

ok so other then cm what other rom/kernel would reduce lag and increase speed right now im trying fresh 3.3.0.1 with king kernel #9

Why don't you try installing >>Snap 7.6 kernel on a Sense ROM and then try to enable TURBO? That'll *should* get you scores beyond 2000 but I'm not sure how well it works. >>Snap kernels are designed for CM ROMs ONLY and there is no support for installing a >>Snap kernel on a Sense ROM - but I've read about others who've done it. Maybe give that a try? I haven't done it so I won't be any help but I've read about it which means maybe it'll work for you.
Dude I really don't understand why you're so concerned with Quadrant scores. It's just a number.

Well, it does ultimately represent something. But unless you can see a real difference, I wouldn't care so much.
If your phone is snappy and smooth, it shouldn't matter what score you get in Quadrant. When I was on CM6 I was scoring 2000+, on Fresh I get around 1650 and I think my Evo is running way better with Fresh than it did with CM6.
well see ive tried fresh with the kings kernel and still not gettin that high i wanna try nets kernel but not sure which one is compatible i like baked but takes too long to boot i also like fresh
Have you tried the new official kernel? It's not going to give you crazy quadrant scores but it will make your battery last a lot longer + I think the way HTC lifted the cap makes it smoother than the custom kernels. It makes the phone more useful which IMHO is more important than Quadrant scores.

[Q] Quadrant Standered

hello all,
i was just curious, how come my quadrant scores are always so low (mid 1100s)? i know that's not terribly low, but it is not close to where the "evo benchers" site reports that they are. currently im using the new htc kernal, only becuase i have only seen minimal performance changes with kings or netarchy.
thank you!
when Evo first came out they were only mid 500's...
depends on rom you are running also i believe, i only got 1100-1200 running Sense roms with stock HTC Kernel.
With CM Nightlies + Snap7.6 + Turbo Mode + 1.2ghz setCPU .... math, lol, i have gone as high as 2600 on quadrant.
It's just a basic benchmark and unless you have the paid version that breaks down your score it isn't really a good thing to go by.
1100 is pretty standard with the new HTC kernel and a sense rom. I run VaelPak, trimmed some extra fat, and get 1350 with stock kernel, 1500 with kingx #10. So ill stick with the stock kernel, better battery life imo.
Hey... I think this thing makes phone calls too!
After alot of work and tweaking got my EVO to its highest quandrant yet..1585 and Linpack of 33.899 MFlops.
Always a great day when one has the full freedom to R&D something they purchased with their hard earned money without being shackled.
I use snap v7.6 w/turbo activated and just got 2483 , w/linpack 37.21

My scores are worse. I avg around 1000, usually 900something
Look a page or two down and the very helpful and patient peopele here gave my several suggestions. I haven't tried any of them yet, but I will when I have more time.
Ive gotten 2700's a few time with snap and Cyanogen 6.1 OC'd of course.

[Q] What is an average quadrant score?

Please forgive me if this s somewhere else, but the search function is down I think.
I feel like my brand new evo is pretty laggy compared to what Ive seen. I have rooted and am running the newest stock kernel.
Ive tried Mik's rom and Myn's rom, they both net me an average score of 1100 on quadrant.
Am I way below where I should be? Seems like my menus are much "jerkier" than what Ive seen around.
Also, if anyone knows, what does wipe SD-EXT in recovery do?

I would agree that 1100 is average, but you could make your phone so much faster. Download Spare parts from the market and set you transitions and windows animations too fast. This should increase your quadrant score, thought it may take two test to show a boost. Also how long gave you had your evo on its current rom. The evo is like a person, it needs time to adapt to its kernel. So when you flash a rom, be patient and give your phone a couple day (3 or 4) to get used to the kernel. Then if performance and/or battery is bad, you can pm and i can recommend the kernel i use as well as others. With my current set up, which is Myn's RLS 5 and net 4.3 cfs, but don't worry just sit on your current set up. Good luck

Thanks, I just flashed Myn's RLS 5 a few hours ago and I have been flashing like every day since I rooted. Ill give it a few days and see what happens. My girlfriend jsut got an EVO slide and I guess I just have envy since it seems so much snappier straight out of the box.
Not to mention my battery seems to die in a matter of a couple hours and hers has gone down only 30% in the last 16 hours.

I recommend just leaving it on the same kernel for the weekend. Also do you use sense as in the clock and different widgets. Because i removed sense from my phone and get about 19 hours on a single charge with regular use.

Yeah I do use sense. Not sure if Im ready to give it up yet though ><
1100 seems like an average score for an relatively "stock" rooted Evo with a custom rom. I've had my quadrant score range from 1100 to 1300 from just a custom rom. Flashing different kernels with net you different scores also. With just netarchy's 4.1.9 no havs, Fresh 3.5, no overclock netted me a score ranging from 1300-1400. Overclocking to 1.2 ghz got to 1450-1650. I'm sure I can tweak some more to squeeze more performance out of my Evo. But usually I keep my phone at stock speed with Fresh rom and I'm satisfied with its performance.

Okay because my bro has the same set up as me but gets about 4 hours less battery, because sense sucks battery life.
can anyone tell me if my numbers seem off i get about 1200-1300 quadrant and 32-33 on linpack with stock kernel and myns rls5...

I use MIUI and average around 1600-1700 on quadrant oc'd to 1150. The ROM itself is much smoother running than pretty much every sense rom I've tried but still not perfect. That "jerkiness" is a limitation of the EVO, no matter what ROM or kernel you use it still won't be iPhone smooth.
SD-EXT is where your apps are stored when using apps2sd. So wipe SD-EXT will wipe that partition.
I went from using stock sense with a score of 1100ish... To runnin CM6 with the stock kernel and a score of 1400 ish... My 3g speed went from an average of 450kbps to above 700... Go figure

Fastest Rom/kernel combo at the moment

any suggestions? I loved the speed and benchmarks i got from cm6/7.6 snap. Just wondering the highest quadrant scores going around right now for our beloved evo and how i can aquire the same. Im sure this has been talked about recently but thought id renew the subject. thanx!
I'm on cm7 nightly release 7 and I didn't get the same results in quadrant as I did in cm6 with snap Turbo. Right now in cm7 I get 1248 score.
quadrant changed something inside it, now it is limiting the score, or fixed the exploit that the evo used before. dunno which but scores have been slower across the board

I don't put a lot in Quadrant scores, but it does kinda put a lil smile on your face when you bust the top. But I have noticed here the last week or two my scores are way lower. Sometimes lower than Evo 2.2
The best scores I ever had were with MIUI...

same here my quadrant score was at its highest with MIUI....
yeah i know it isnt worth much but it does put a nice smile on my face when i crack a high score. i remember with cm6/snap turbo 7.6 i was getting around 3000 or slightly higher, which was crazy. Now im lucky if i break the evo 2.2 one. It was just a thought, i know it doesnt mean much in the real world.
Still worthy app. Fun if nothing else I guess lol.
Give MIUI a whirl. Its got some nice speed and great battery life to boot!
Kinda the same as above. MIUI with Savage-Zen is pretty awesome scores...
However, i really dont care TOO much about scores, so i go by battery life and just responsiveness to my use.. and i am LOVING CM7 nightlies. Last one i flashed was #6 and seriously, this is the first time EVER i have had an AOSP rom as my daily driver...
give that a shot if you have CM6... i would try the Savaged-Zen 1.0 Kernel (cause i LOVE SBC) and see what you think... it really BLEW MY MIND!

Sorry if I sound dense, but are you saying CM6 is much faster than CM7? I'm not sure what the scores mean.
i used to get 1300 to 1400 with my stock rom but now cm7 build 23? nightly i get anywhere from 1500 to 1600, gonna flash the newest rom and see what happens
Add another vote for MIUI. Not only is it the fastest ROM with the highest benchmarks (which don't even matter), it also provides superior battery life and looks gorgeous.

please help

I have three evo's two are box stock and one is rooted, and is running cyanogen mod 7 kernel and rom.
The problem is the linpak and quadrant score on the modified evo are actually lower than the stock evo. For example the stock evo is doing a linpak of 30 while my modified evo is only doing about 21. Likewise my quadrant score tends to be pretty low. I have to clock my modified evo to the max to pass the stock evo.
What gives why is my evo overclocked to 1.13 with custom kernel and rom slower? I set the profile to performance.
A while back while using the tiamat kernel I set my overclock to 1.2 and the phone just froze and shutdown did I damage the phone. This happened several times because it kept on rebooting. Today I set the clock 1.190 and the phone froze and shutdown again. Right now I am running the Cyanogen Kernel and no issues so far but why is my phone so slow. Both evos don't have much apps at all only one or two(excluding the stock sprint apps on the stock evo)
Thanks for your help
so what do u need to overclock ur phone for? does it dial faster? can u talk and hear phone calls faster? does it ring faster? I don't understand????
I forgot to mention that on quadrant my modified evo ranks below evo 2.2+ on that quadrant score chart. Is my phone defective?

I'm just curious and want to learn more. Why do you guys overclock?
I see people avg's with my my current setting are around 40. Im thinking defective phone.
Should I flash the stock rom back on and un-root and bring the phone back?
rebooted the phone and now the score is just getting crazy low 6.509 mflops
Overclocking an EVO doesn't really do all that much. It's only 200 MHz more.
Desperately need help the touch screen doesnt work and this was all the sudden
Overclocking can cause some instability, like the locked-up screen. Pull the battery and wipe cache and dalvik.
And benchmarks aren't worth anything, they can be easily tricked. Real-world usage matters. Personally, I underclock for more battery

Search the general section for supercharge script. Go to first thread and then go to original thread linked in there. Follow steps and dl update8. Run it as explained. Enjoy ur extremely faster phone. It changes memory management and stuff
Thanks for your helps guys.
Tropicalbrit your right. I really forgot the point of the phone is to see how well it works daily. In all reality I love my evo even though its not getting a high score. I was mainly just curious to see if I damaged my processor from overclocking and crashing.
I booted into recovery and used CW and booted back into a copy of sense I had. I did that linpak test again a was suprised to see how it scored 31. That's higher than CM7! So does this mean my processor is not damaged?
I will eventually go back to CM7 because I love all the effects and battery life was extended significantly. I should just probably stick with the stock kernel.
Thanks for all your help guys
I may try that supercharge script soon though if its safe.

You are running a governor which down clocks the processor. Quadrant does not tax the processor enough to hit your Max CPU speed. Set min and Max to 998 and test again. Try performance(for best results) or interactive/ondemand governers. You can change the settings in the CyanogenMod settings/ performance/ CPU settings menu.

Overclocking a phone doesnt do much other then cause over heating. If someone can give me a good reason to overclock I will gladly change my opinion.
Stock is set to optimal performance. IE HTC has performance tested the phone on this ROM and has proven no ill effects.
Custom ROMS are works in progress they have a lot of benefits and for some, are exactly what they are looking for.
