so i just downloaded the update from my phone, and i'm not 100% sure what went wrong. i downloaded a zip update to the ec05 modem and updated from the eb13 one. then i just flashed the 1.1 update like i did with the rest. except now my phone is super slow and keeps freezing. also, opening the browser and facebook and essentially any other apps keep crashing my phone. i've tried different settings with setcpu, but that didn't do any good. now i can't even send or receive text messages. i've tried reinstalling and that didn't work either. any ideas?
Happened to me to. I odin back to stock, then did the legit update to ec05 throught google, did the one click cwm 3, and flashed the rom. Works fine now.
You may be one of the few people with a freak phone that doesn't like EC05 too. There seems to be no harm in sticking with EB13, try flashing back to it.
K0nane has posted several times that the stock kernel (twilight) sometimes freaks the phone out. He suggested flashing a different kernel and that has fixed several peoples problems similar to this.

This is right. If you are having issues flash to Vision kernel.

Almost every text I send fails.. I have full bars, go to send a text and then after a while the text fails to send..(they still end up receiving it anyway, but its a huge issue because the phone constantly alerts that my text failed). I can make calls just fine. Is anyone else having this problem with this ROM? IS there a fix? I'm 99% sure its installed just fine and my hardware is impeccable.
I had this before on ee odin then reflash to bonsai it should fix it. Btw i dont have this on bonsai

If you're using gingerbread theme, try this.
If not, do what the post says above and it should fix the problem. If you're wanting to try something easier first, simply try reflashing the ROM. But I think it does occur to many people that have a problem during switching Modems in Odin.
The same thing is happening to me, but Im not using a custom rom. I'm using stock D118
I had an issue with bonsai where my messages would stick on "sending". I rebooted the phone and the problem hasnt come back until i flashed v2.0 of bonsai..i rebooted again and all is well. for safety measures i reflashed the dk28 modem...i replied to your post in the bonsai thread and said that you can also odin the DI18 modem which some people have said works better than DK28 and the internet speeds are much better..
hmm darn, well i just restored to the point before i flashed bonsai and flashed nebula 1.0.7 instead and its working perfectly
Having the same radio problems with this one as Midnight v 3.1, I've tested both and can hardly send a text to save my life. I go to send it times out and fails then i get the error message did not send, yet they still recieve it. Its frustrating because I really wanted to run either of those two. Not sure why but these two must be similar causing the same problem. (in midnight theres a huge thanks to bonsai dev's so just assuming its a similar Rom)

I've been restoring to the point of when i just flashed stock dk28 and reflashing both these roms and still every other text fails to send. should i try to odin back to stock dk28 and reroot? does that do a more effective wipe then restoring back to stock dk28 with root? (because i made a backup right after i did the oneclickrootcw3)
well i odin'd back to stock and rerooted and reflashed midnight and im still failing every other text Im a heavy texter and like to go fast and often when im going.. when every other message is failing it becomes impossible to talk to someone. calls work fine.
hi all, been following the Epic forums for sometime, finally decided to start getting involved
Im experiencing an issue with EB13. when it first came out I Odined EB13, everything worked great. Since then I have ran into the same issue every time I switch ROMS. I will flash the new rom, about half the time it works great. The other half I get no connectivity at all, and the UI is sluggish. Going into about phone, I see that my baseband is unknown, and my hardware version is unknown.
I can usually get it to connect after re-flashing and re-flashing the rom a few times.
Also, noticed that once I get it to actually connect and I get "bars", I will of course then do a fresh Nandroid, after a full nand backup the issue reappears.
Anyone know what this could be? weird thing is just that its so random. I can get it to work most of the time, just have trouble when switching roms.
Set up:
CWM3.0.0.6/EXT4
Just flashed SyndicateROM today.
EB13 (sometimes)
FIXED
FIXED. all the computers in my home are Macs so odining the modem again is not a quick fix option.
Booted into CWM3 and Fixed Permissions.
Booted up and connected.
Interesting stuff
I've been experiencing the exact same problem as the OP, but for me, running fix permissions in CWM (2.5.1.0) doesn't (always) solve the issue.
It seems to happen anytime I flash a zip from CWM, and goes away randomly (usually after sever flash attempts and modem restores with Odin).
Really hoping someone has an idea what's causing this issue, because it makes flashing things very tedious knowing half the time I'm gonna be stuck with a useless phone until I can get the modem working again.
I'm wondering if it's somehow a hardware issue, since it doesn't seem to affect everybody.
If it helps, I have the stock deodexed EB13 ROM with the Genocide 0.3a kernel.
I'm definately thinking its a cwm issue.. ill even just do a nandroid backup for kicks, reboot and it will do it sometimes.. eventually I might odin back to eb13 and reflash cwm and custom rom and see if I can get it to go away

Let me know if that works for you, because it happens to me all the time, and it's really annoying.
There also doesn't seem to be a simple way of fixing it.
Seems to just randomly go away as suddenly as it comes on.
Okay, so I just odined back to stock EB13 and I still have modem issues.
Currently going all the way back to DI18 to see if that fixes things, but is it safe to assume it's a hardware issue if even Odin doesn't fix it?
Okay, so the unknown baseband issue is back for me, and I seem to have made some headway on what causes it.
I had just tried to initiate a ROM backup in ROM Manager, but it hung while rebooting into CWM (on the Samsung Boot Logo).
I think I might have been doing something with ROM Manager last time it happened as well.
Can anyone who knows more about this stuff than I do think of a reason it'd happen when using ROM Manager?
I'd very much like to nip this issue for good, because it's making it hard to justify using CWM/root if I'm gonna keep losing the phone part of my phone.
Can I bump this? My battery died, and when I turned it back on, I have the unknown baseband, unknown hardware problem. I've been googling all night, and haven't found a solution.
I have been running ERA Legendary v3 on the EI22 Modem for a few weeks with ACS Recovery that I've had installed since it came out.
Any help would be awesome.

And I've tried flashing modems/roms and odining modems/roms. Even Heimdalling modems/roms. No luck. I've mainly tried ec05 and up. I will try older ones right now, if I can find them.
I rooted my Epic 4G Touch last night and now my wi-fi isnt working. (Everything else is working well and I get very nice benchmark scores) I will try to turn on wifi, and it looks like it turns on but then it shuts off by itself a couple seconds later. I've tried a couple different kernels(zedomax, lostkernel). Also, maybe this is a related issue, but I downloaded WiFi Tether and when I start it, a few errors show up in the log (configuring softap, starting softap, activating WiFi interface--all failed). Not sure where to go from here. Couldn't find anything helpful in any other forums. I did try installing the EL26 modem but that didnt fix the issue.
Any ideas?
Sometimes this happens going between the recompiled kernels and stock.
I would backup your data and start from scratch by ODIN flashing EG30 or EK02 (from my signature) and do a ##786# reset per the instructions in those posts.
Make sure your running the same kernel with the same build. ie EL13 ROM with EL13 Kernel

Couldn't I just wipe and then flash Calkulin's EL13 rom? or is flashing to stock different? Sorry, I'm new to all this.
You are welcome to try what you want. I like to start with pure stock and reset everything to see if that works, then slowly introduce changes.
Hello everyone,
Couple of days ago I upgraded my E4GT to Calkulin's 1.3a (from a previous version). Since then, I noticed the phone reboots on its own at least once a day and sometimes I miss calls (this might be Sprint's fault though).
This is what I have installed right now:
Code:
Android version: 4.0.3
Baseband version: S:D710.10 S.EL29
Kernel version: 3.0.15-SPH-D710.FC24-CL287574 [email protected] #3
Build number: Calkulins.E4GT.2.ROM.v1.3a
Hardware version: D710.10
The reason my baseband is EL29 is because I read somewhere that newer versions do not support GPS as of yet.
Can someone show me the way please?
Thank you very much
I'm on 1.3a and have super fast gps. I'm on all fc24 stock. No reboots or any issues. The gps can be fixed in several ways. I ran Faster fix and GPS Fix. Now it lock before map is even loaded. The reboot issue can usually be fixed by a good clean install.

What version did you flash from? I have not had any problems with the random reboots. I have been flashing every tweaked calk rom since fc05. They don't even require format to get up and running.
The only problem I've encountered is that I lost GPS on fc24. I had to use the old "go back to el29 gb for a lock and restore my nandroid backup" trick to get it back.
Did you try the format all and clearing cache?
If you flashed the rom from GB to ICS, then you must make the clean install (using Calk's format all tool). Otherwise, you will experienced the many issues that no one is going to help you because you did not follow the instruction.
I had the same issue after going from 1.3 to 1.3a. No wipe or resets helped. Just went back to el29 like usual and flashed 1.3a again it was fine.

Not so true I've been flashing every ICS leaks and I always make a clean install and I"m in the same boat as him so I did some testing and I found out that when I have 4G on ( in which I always do ) that's when my phone reboot at least 3 or 4 times during the day. Now on 3G it NEVER reboot so I d/l the Calk 1.3a again with clean install and flashed it and I still have the same problem.
Something to this as the reboots were significantly worse when I was on 4g, though not exclusively. The reboots were bad enough on my phone while on ics that am now back to 2.8.1

I can confirm that reboots occur only on 4g

Having the same random reboots. Always do full wipe with calks format all. Tried several different modems and versions.
Sorry guys, after some testing I noticed that only when I leave 4G on do the reboots occurr. I have turned off 4G and it has been going for over 24 hours without reboots. I never use 4G but I felt like using my "unlimited" Sprint data plan so I started to use 4G and then I noticed the reboots.
I have gone from GB to ICS without a clean install, which I believe is the reason why I have the EL29 in my specs.
Seeing as how this version has "a" in the name, I am blaming this on the alpha release.
Hopefully it will get addressed by Calk (who is the man, btw).
Thank you!
I updated phone by going to settings/about phone/system updates and ran the updates and havent noticed any reboots since. But this is at home where I get intermittent 4g so I will know for sure if its fixed when I'm at work tomorrow.
tyler2time: thanks for the info, I just updated Profile and PRL (but Firmware and Android were up-to-date already). I will test this out throughout the day tomorrow and report back.

The EL29 Baseband is the modem you are using. It does not change when you flash a new Rom. You can flash any modem you want to try but they have to be flashed separately. The a in the 1.3a build is because in v1.3, Calkulin accidentally used the FC22 kernel. He uploaded the Rom again with the FC24 kernel and renamed it to 1.3a. I consider every one of these leaks Alpha builds since they are built for testing purposes. Thanks for posting your results.
Hi DataHawg,
Thank you for the info. I found out that the modem is updated independently of the ROM. I am planning to do a format_all and re-install with latest modem, hopefully that will be more stable.
Another strange thing happened: I went to sleep with phone battery at 46% and woke up today with a dead phone. I saw that battery was drained somehow. I don't leave apps/services running except for a few (dropbox, box.net, facebook, twitter).
I will report how the new upgrade goes.
Thank you again, you guys are doing a helluva job here!
Today I read in the original Calkulin thread that modems used in ICS all have trouble with 4G data reboots, so I guess it's a known issue.
But now I'm having another issue with HTC_IME mod crashing. Can anyone help?
Thanks!
EDIT: Found the problem to be text prediction. I turned it off in the HTC_IME mod settings and all works fine now, no crashes so far. Thank you everyone!
On NF1 based roms, does anyone have issues answering calls like I do? I keep swiping to answer and it won't work, most of the time I miss the call. I didn't have this issue on an older build of TW.
No problems here. Bad flash, maybe?

Have rebooted your phone anytime lately? Also, if you have lots of tweaks you may be slowing down your phone responses.
Weird issue. I download two different ROMs from different threads, with the same issue. I don't known what the problem could be. I don't usually run a lot of tweaks on TW, I keep it mostly stock most of the time, except, that it could be related to a custom kernel. I'll try a stock kernel
Haven't had that issue. That's including experiences from 2 different note 3's. Stock and rooted.
Tried stock kernel. Same issue. I'll have to try to go completely stock and see if the problem returns. I don't know what it could be. Everything else is fine otherwise. Am I able to run the older kitkat ROMs with the newer stuff? If I can, I'll try to confirm that I don't have an issue with those.
EDIT: happened to try the Canadian S5 port, and I have no issues with answering calls. I will just use it for the time being.
I'm still having this issue and I'm completely stock. I don't know what's wrong. It doesn't exist when I'm running the S5 port or an AOSP rom. Anyone have an idea?
EDIT: Found out my baseband was outdated. It didn't update with the firmware update from Kies. I rooted the stock rom, and used Triangle Away, then Odin flashed the modem, things are well now.
