Hello everyone,
Couple of days ago I upgraded my E4GT to Calkulin's 1.3a (from a previous version). Since then, I noticed the phone reboots on its own at least once a day and sometimes I miss calls (this might be Sprint's fault though).
This is what I have installed right now:
Code:
Android version: 4.0.3
Baseband version: S:D710.10 S.EL29
Kernel version: 3.0.15-SPH-D710.FC24-CL287574 [email protected] #3
Build number: Calkulins.E4GT.2.ROM.v1.3a
Hardware version: D710.10
The reason my baseband is EL29 is because I read somewhere that newer versions do not support GPS as of yet.
Can someone show me the way please?
Thank you very much
I'm on 1.3a and have super fast gps. I'm on all fc24 stock. No reboots or any issues. The gps can be fixed in several ways. I ran Faster fix and GPS Fix. Now it lock before map is even loaded. The reboot issue can usually be fixed by a good clean install.

What version did you flash from? I have not had any problems with the random reboots. I have been flashing every tweaked calk rom since fc05. They don't even require format to get up and running.
The only problem I've encountered is that I lost GPS on fc24. I had to use the old "go back to el29 gb for a lock and restore my nandroid backup" trick to get it back.
Did you try the format all and clearing cache?
If you flashed the rom from GB to ICS, then you must make the clean install (using Calk's format all tool). Otherwise, you will experienced the many issues that no one is going to help you because you did not follow the instruction.
I had the same issue after going from 1.3 to 1.3a. No wipe or resets helped. Just went back to el29 like usual and flashed 1.3a again it was fine.

Not so true I've been flashing every ICS leaks and I always make a clean install and I"m in the same boat as him so I did some testing and I found out that when I have 4G on ( in which I always do ) that's when my phone reboot at least 3 or 4 times during the day. Now on 3G it NEVER reboot so I d/l the Calk 1.3a again with clean install and flashed it and I still have the same problem.
Something to this as the reboots were significantly worse when I was on 4g, though not exclusively. The reboots were bad enough on my phone while on ics that am now back to 2.8.1

I can confirm that reboots occur only on 4g

Having the same random reboots. Always do full wipe with calks format all. Tried several different modems and versions.
Sorry guys, after some testing I noticed that only when I leave 4G on do the reboots occurr. I have turned off 4G and it has been going for over 24 hours without reboots. I never use 4G but I felt like using my "unlimited" Sprint data plan so I started to use 4G and then I noticed the reboots.
I have gone from GB to ICS without a clean install, which I believe is the reason why I have the EL29 in my specs.
Seeing as how this version has "a" in the name, I am blaming this on the alpha release.
Hopefully it will get addressed by Calk (who is the man, btw).
Thank you!
I updated phone by going to settings/about phone/system updates and ran the updates and havent noticed any reboots since. But this is at home where I get intermittent 4g so I will know for sure if its fixed when I'm at work tomorrow.
tyler2time: thanks for the info, I just updated Profile and PRL (but Firmware and Android were up-to-date already). I will test this out throughout the day tomorrow and report back.

The EL29 Baseband is the modem you are using. It does not change when you flash a new Rom. You can flash any modem you want to try but they have to be flashed separately. The a in the 1.3a build is because in v1.3, Calkulin accidentally used the FC22 kernel. He uploaded the Rom again with the FC24 kernel and renamed it to 1.3a. I consider every one of these leaks Alpha builds since they are built for testing purposes. Thanks for posting your results.
Hi DataHawg,
Thank you for the info. I found out that the modem is updated independently of the ROM. I am planning to do a format_all and re-install with latest modem, hopefully that will be more stable.
Another strange thing happened: I went to sleep with phone battery at 46% and woke up today with a dead phone. I saw that battery was drained somehow. I don't leave apps/services running except for a few (dropbox, box.net, facebook, twitter).
I will report how the new upgrade goes.
Thank you again, you guys are doing a helluva job here!
Today I read in the original Calkulin thread that modems used in ICS all have trouble with 4G data reboots, so I guess it's a known issue.
But now I'm having another issue with HTC_IME mod crashing. Can anyone help?
Thanks!
EDIT: Found the problem to be text prediction. I turned it off in the HTC_IME mod settings and all works fine now, no crashes so far. Thank you everyone!

I flashed the ROM a few nights ago and followed the instructions regarding flashing the new Radio pack but after noticing that 4G just wouldn't turn on I tried going back into recovery and flashing the .zip again. Still didn't work.
Eventually I restored the previous backup because of an unrelated data-loss incident. I restored the backup I made of Warm and tried re-flashing the radio .zip but it still wont work, anyone care to point out what I'm doing wrong?
I've tried searching the ROM's thread but "4g" must not be long enough to search for, and "radio" yielded no help either. I would've posted this there but evidently I need 10 posts before I can post to the Dev forum(A new rule?).
Thanks for reading!
What's your phone information(build,kernel,hboot)?
I thought that stuff was controlled by the ROM developer. It's on HTC kernel 15, build is warm 2.2 RLS 5.

As it turns out, last night I was able to turn 4g on, but I'm no longer able to do it now. Anyone know what's up?

I had the exact same problem as you. This just happened out of nowhere which is even more weird. The rom was working fine and then all of a sudden it just stopped allowing me to turn on 4g. I get the scanning then disconnect really quick. Or I get turning on and turning off over and over again. It shows really quick.
What I did was I flashed back to stock with an old nandroid. I went to a area without 4g and tried to let it connect. Of course it couldn't. I then updated my profile 4 times. I flashed back to another rom and it is working again. Still a little buggy but way better than not being able to connect at all.

Did you go back to Warm? And what profiles are you talking about exactly, and what does that do? I like this fRom a lot so I'd hate to have to switch.

I have been bouncing back and forth between his and mikfroyo. You go into settings and go to system updates and update profile. When it's done hit ok. Do that a few times and restart the phone. See if that works. It took me days to get mine working again. I think it was from flashing from rom to rom all the time and updating and upgrading the radio's that caused the problem. I don't think it's his rom that is causing it in my case at least. Good luck
My standard process when flashing roms and kernels has always been and will be when im done with the flashing . Setup widgets and where I want them , apps , general settings etc etc etc . Then perform Update Profile followed by Update PRL . When those processes are done I usually let the phone settle down some then do a reboot . Again let the phone settle down from the reboot . Then check your 4G connection it should work . My only advice is to stick with roms running off the newest radios . That way you cut out flashing radios causing possible issues with 4G .
So i am having issues with this ROM and was wondering if anyone is having the same issue. Well i see that my awake and run time are the same and spare parts is showing 100% usage on the CPU.
ive tried using all the different kernels to no success.
any help would be appreciated.
Myn's warm 2.2 RLS 5

I've installed Myn and my 4G doesn't work. It switches between on and off really fast and then sometimes it'll go further and scan, connect, disconnect, and repeat.
Specs: myn's warm TwoPointTwo (RLS5)
Baseband: 2.15.00.11.19
Kernel: 2.6.32.25-netrarchy-toastmod-4.2.1-cfs-bfq-havs-more-smartass
PRI version: 1.90_003
PRL version 60674
NOTE!! I've already checked if my RSA keys have been lost and they haven't.
Any tips would be grateful, I'm going to flash Fresh tonight and hopefully it works.
Jj, and SouthernEvo, thanks for the tips! I cracked the glass on my phone and just got a replacement, when I flashed the radios I didn't get the images the dev said I would: "While the radios are flashing you'll see a little green arrow phone icon for a bit afterwords, Wait on this. You will then automatically be taken back to recovery."
If this time around it doesn't work again I guess I'll try flashing a re-downloaded Radio package!
running_onCode, seems that we might be having the same issues, did you notice anything strange while flashing the radio package? Like I said on this second Evo, when I flashed it I paid attention and didn't get any green exclamation points.
I have this problem as well. I've used the app that checks for the RSA keys and it says I'm good. I've also checked via a console app.
What happens is exactly like everyone else here. Once the WiMax radio is turned on it'll scan for 3-5 seconds, then it says connecting to Sprint for about .5 seconds, then it says disconnect, and repeats. I've flashed and reflashed with the latest radio pack at the top here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715485 . I did that so I could run Myn's Wyrm RLS5. H boot has not been flahed ( think I have a really old version). I've tried different ROMs and there is no difference. I tried going back to my previous ROM and it still didn't work. I tried updating Profile and PRL 5x and doing a shutdown>reboot and there was no change. Any help would be great.

Yeah, it seems like we do have the same issue. I'll flash Myn's rom when there is a fix for the 4G or maybe it's just our phones? I got tired of waiting so I flashed MikFroyo and everything is working. I was using 4G a couple minutes after leaving my house yesterday.
Yeah I'm thinking of just flashing another ROM, can't get much help without posting to the ROM thread itself and I guess I can't do that anymore!
It's too bad though, the first time around I had amazing battery life, but this time it's a lot worse
Are you using Titanium Backup? I had the same problem when I used TB, I would wipe everything, flash Myn's rom and them restore all my apps using TB and 4g would not turn on at all, RSA keys were intact but no 4g. I actually did a Nand backup before running TB and after using TB and trying to restore Nand 4g still would not work!
It actually took a while before I figured out it was TB borking the 4g (3-4 installs and reboots). I had to write down all my backed up apps and download them one by one
Hope this helps!

I doubt it is titanium, I had the same problems with RLS 5 not getting 4g. Have used titanium on Calks, Mik, and Azrael without having 4g scanning / disconnecting issues. There was a fix for this a couple weeks ago, somewhere. Too much for me so I moved on. Ricsim said that battery life is 97% driven by the kernel, not the Rom.
Bump! Anyone?
im having a issue i just flashed the prerooted deodexed no ciq gps fix ei22 and the modem and im having an issue with wifi disconnecting then reconnecting or wifi and 3g connecting at the same time , now mabey its just the modded version of ei22 i flashed or what it is i dunno but i would appriciate any info on a possible fix cause i really like the way 2.3.5 is running besides that

I had the same issue. I had a nandroid backup of the prerooted stock EI22 and reverted back to it. My wifi connection has been rock solid since.
I am suspecting it's due to this new "gps fix" that's floating around, or something in the nubernel kernel since I didn't start having the issue until after I installed that kernel and gps fix (did both at the same time) yesterday.
Are you guys both running custom kernels or did you install that gps fix zip? I never had this problem in ACS 1.2, even when running custom kernels (twilight, genocide, etc.).
So to reiterate, right now I'm on the prerooted EI22 with EI22 modem. No other zips applied.
Edit: I turned my gps on and forgot about it for a few minutes. My phone suddenly rebooted! I'm going to reapply the gps fix and see if that causes the wifi issue again.

I was getting the wifi/data issue on all of the ROMS, until ERA V3.1. So far this ROM is the most stable as of yet. I anticipate a LOT of flashing coming up over the next few weeks. VERY excited and impressed with all of the improvments in this short amount of time!!
The only thing I've done to "fix" the wifi problem was restore from nandroid.
I think I'll be happy to get rid of this phone at upgrade time. It's always one problem or another.
Edit: I reflashed the nubernel kernel and the wifi problem came back. I even rebooted a few times to make sure. Then I reflashed the nandroid backup and the problem went away.
I have wifi working, but the signal is weak that's for sure. My bigger problem is constantly losing screen responsiveness! My screen will just randomly not respond to my touches. I have to turn off the screen for a minute and turn it back on then MAYBE it will work. Not happy thats for sure.
BTW I'm using the same one as you guys, pre-rooted EI22

My phone has always done that on Froyo, no matter which ROM I was using (though I never used the stock Froyo ROM). Also did it on every Gingerbread rom. I don't know if the digitizer was going bad or what.
Kinda glad to be rid of it - nice phone, but like exspecto said, always something.
I'm have the wi-fi/3g issue as well it runs fine when I'm at home but it flakes out at work. I thought it was an app I was running but now I see that others are having the issue as well. I'm gonna try ERA today to see if it happens again.

**** Note, this thread is not pointing fingers at ROM Devs *****
So starting back when porting of ICS from skyrocket was done I never had any random reboots or crashes fast forward to about 2 weeks ago when sudden and many freezes, lock ups and random reboots started. I first started seeing it on darkside v3 and it continued to darkside v6 during which time I decided to bounce to AOKP which gave me the same results.
Things I have tested are:
[1] Different ROMs (all based on 4.0.3)
[2] 3 different SDCards, all brand new
[3] Running different radios
[4] No apps installed, basic default setup after ROM flashed with and without add-on launchers. Tested using TW, Nova and Apex.
[5] Formatted sdcard and internal storage
[6] New battery - pending results, ordered 2 days ago will be here Wednesday
[7] New bluetooth - pending results, ordered 2 days ago will be here Tuesday (Not sure if it would help but it was a good excuse to tell the wife)
[8] Flashed multiple times using CWM (non-touch) and TWRP
Anytime a ROM is flashed I always superwipe and on a few occasions I have manually select clear/format section via CWM. My flashing steps are perfect and followed to a T per AOKP and Darkside. Ive always flashed 100% battery charge and anytime I try to logcat I'm unable to get a log due to the random reboot because it won't save the log.
Once the new battery gets here and that doesn't work I'm completely lost with what else I can try. Does anyone who has experience and knows the file system of 4.0.3 > 4.0.4 know if something has been changed that may help or does anyone have any other method for me to find the issue at hand? Also keep in mind running darkside GB based on 2.3.6 is stable as hell.
Your assistance is much appreciated.
I had freezes and reboot when I went from 4.0.3 to 4.0.4
then I just started from fresh. I Odin 'd to stock, and I started fresh with apparently and data. Didn't use titanium backup.. have not had a freeze or reboot since. I really think most users issues are because they are restoring old data.
Edit. After re-reading your thread I see that you never flashed a 4.0.4 rom. I really don't know why u are having issues.. your method of flashing looks really sound

well if you wiped all that and you still getting random lags and you re flashed your CWM
just make sure you download count hasnt moved you know when your in download mode
cause it might be hardware and try

and AOKP B40
if its not the software then its the hardware
you could always try odin and start fresh that always seems to work on mine

I odin and started fresh and ran ICS stock for 3 days with no crashes or issues. I then rooted and flashed new ICS Rom and have not had any issues for the past 48 hours. Everything doing great. Something must have been stuck between all the upgrade/flashes that were causing the crashes.
Eugene fixed the reboots on AOKP, as far as AOKP, it was ROM related.

My stock phone was just fine and then.. Crashing, freezing, random rebooting, call echo, missed calls and missed text. My phone was possessed by some android demon after upgrading to 4.0 from Samsung via Kies. A google search took me to XDA. I'm a noob and all but I read every post and I watched all your YouTube videos (thank you ScreamingSkulls, that helped a lot). TDJ posted the DARKSIDE v4 rom while i was reading his thread so I flashed my first custom rom. No major problems, the camera froze when I first opened it but I killed it and it worked fine after that (I later read that others had that happen too). I flashed the v5 rom then v7.. I did have an issue when I flashed the VENOM 03 #3 kernel. After I flashed it stuck for a long time on the S logo (animating). I got it to reboot successfully so I flashed it again just be sure and it worked. I also flashed the VENOM 03 #5 kernel yesterday and everything is running smooth.
My phone was running for about 52 hours before my doubletwist app started changing songs by itself and freezing lol, this isn't the first time it's happened, I've even done a clean install from odin, funny thing is, with GB could run my phone for almost 5 days or more straight if I let it with no issues, but ICS seems a bit more laggy, I think I'll wait for the dev's to whip up some extra mean stuff until there is an official repair for it.
Nice thread. Id been reading about that reboots. I can tell you im on jaminson' s rom and no problem here about that or apps fcs. Smooth and stable. Is nice to read that you fix it

I had hellish problems with ics, echo randomly in speaker, headset, even bluetooth, on wifi and not. App crashes, camera hosing, reboots, major scroll lag, touch lag, i ended going back to ginger a few times.
What i found out is to NOT RESTORE OR TOUCH ANYTHING! I have always run tdj's roms since he started putting them out but used titanium back to restore nonsystem apps, used rom tool box to tweak a few minor things.
I am running darkside evolution with v5 of ds kernel, i did not restore anything with tb didnt tweak any thing os just settings wise. Only loaded bare min apps i need. I do highly recommend nova launcher, its nice and fast and better on battery.
Just loading the ROM fresh and nova only issues are a few echo calls but very minimal. Performance and battery life are insane, I'm currently 15hr at 65% battery on light to moderate use, incredible. Otherwise runs perfectly great. Probably apps are just not totally ics compatible not sure.

My wife and i got our GNex phones at the same time in April through the Amazon wireless store. Both of our phones had to be repalced by amazon within the 30 day window for 4g/3g/1x signal drop issue. 4g radio would just totally crap out, then would wipe out the 3g and then i would have a complete signal loss. Everything was fine after we got the replacement phones. My wifes phone is totally stock and has had zero issues. Mine is rooted running AOKP toro IMM761, Android 4.04. 4 days ago it started having the rampant 4g signal crash issue again. I've turned off the 4g radio for now, but according to NoSignalAlert, with just the 3g radio on i've had complete signal loss 7 times today. I'm in the same area as usual, my house and my office where i normally have 2+ bars of 4g. I'm thinking the radio has gone bad in this phone, like it did in both of our previous GNex phones, it just took this one 6 months to die. Now i have to deal with Verizon Wireless to get a replacement. They are wanting to make sure i'm on the most current build, baseband etc. Here are my questions.
1 - What is the most current stock ROM, radio, build etc. that i an put back on my phone to both a)make sure that a rooted app/baseband etc. is not all of a sudden causing this issue and b) i can talk to VZW and they won't know i've rooted the phone.
2 - Once i return the phone to a stock ROM, i assume that I will have to do an OTA to satisfy the VZW tech. If the phone does not need to be replaced, i.e. the OTA fixes it, will i still be able to root back to an AOKP ROM?
3 - Is there some other update i should try before going the "unrooted" route and trying to talk with Verizon?
Thanks for your help.
Chris

Here are the VZW radios for the Gnex. Personally I would try flashing the new one [4.1.1 (JRO03O)] with a JB ROM. I was on AOKP for pretty much the entire life of my Gnex, 8 months, and never tried CM10. Flashed CM and besides the Nav bar, which I like better in AOKP, I have seen substantial improvements in performance, stability, and even better battery life. If you are determined to stay with AOKP I would still update to the JB version and try those "new" radios.
I started having the same problem a couple days ago when flashing a ROM went bad so I had to restore to an old (4+ mo. old) backup. From there I flashed factoryrom jb and then flashed the new radios today Cuz I just noticed the lack of signal. Still no bars anywhere. Any other thoughts? Do you think flashing a CM would fix it? If so, why?

What is selected in settings-more-mobile network-network mode?
data enabled is checked, and network mode is LTE/CDMA
I was gonna try to find a fix today and if i can't find one, flash to complete stock, reroot/mod etc.

Well, your settings are good to go. Did you check the md5 sum of the radio file after you downloaded it? If you have root explorer hold down on the .zip file and choose properties to check the sum and make sure it matches.
hahaha i guess that's what I get for trying to download a radio on crappy mall WiFi... the MD5 was bad :-/ works good now! thanks!

Hmm, it did this "need to restart SIM to work properly" crap, restarted and stopped working. Any thoughts? I'm installing franco kernel to see if that helps
Welp I ended up just flashing the factory image hahaha, will reinstall ROM and see how it goes. Everything seems to be working fine right now though
Glad it was something simple like that to get you back up and running.:good::highfive:

I d/l the 4.1.1 radio and flashed it in clockwork, and though the flash said it completed successfully, i don't see a way to check the radio version. I don't see 4.1.1 JR03O listed anywhere in the About Phone information...Where should i be looking?
Further, my prboblem seems to have further degaded ...With the 4g radio on, i get random total shut down of the phone, as opposed to simple radio crashes. Just goes to off with black screen. I'm up to try anything. I assume i can easily locate one of these JB ROM's in the dev section?

The baseband i think. Mine is I515.09 V.FF02 / I515.FG02.
I'm not all that knowledgable about the radios I just know my reception/data was poor on JB ROM with ICS radios. When I flashed the JB radio, my issues were fixed. I believe the ROM and radio versions should match, so if you flash JB radio I would flash JB ROM. All the info should be in the thread that is linked.

I am such an idiot, this whole time you've been talking about JB ROMs i assumed you meant some particular brand of ROM, like AOKP or Myn etc... It didn't dawn on me until i saw JB next to ICS that you meant Jelly Bean ROM.
Ok i'm running an AOKP Jelly Bean ROM with Android 4.1.2
baseband is the same as yours
Build is aokp_toro-userdebug 4.1.2 JZo54K
The radio problem seems to be resolved. Thanks for the point in the right direction!
oops, accidentally wiped my sd card when i was restoring back to factory... TOTAL back to factory hahaha.... which isn't so bad i guess... after a year it's about time I guess
I seem to lose signal when leaving wifi though, have to either airplane mode or reboot. Because I had my phone so long, I don't know if there was connection or dust issues, so I did the classic NES/SNES/Sega Gen trick, took the sim card out, blew in there and all that. Seems to still be going ok.
Fyi.. i a simple restart doesnt disconnect u from the towers.. u need to turn off, pull battery, pull sim, and wait for 10 20 sec. That will disconnect u fully..

I'm looking to get some information on my what can be done to fix the Data Usage counter on my wife's i927R (Rogers) running the stock GB os. Currently any data counter application that is put on doesn't actually keep track of 3G/4G data correctly.
I have been reading up on just upgrading it to ICS but I recently read all about the phone call issues after it goes to sleep so I'll be holding off on that upgrade to that gets worked out.
I did notice that there were some GB Kernels (like ardatdat's) that say they fix the issue but they also do a bunch of other things like overclock which i'm not interested in.
Is there a way to just patch the existing stock kernal to correct the data counter issue? If so can you point me in the right direction of the files and steps to update?
Any help would be great.
Thanks
If you want a count of your data, message, and phone calls and are on att, dial *3282# into the phone and press call. It is very accurate and gives you the data in the form of a text message. Not sure if this is what you want, but this is what I do.

The standard stock kernel can't be given that feature, you have to recompile it from source and then hope you get a working version. We are a small group compared to the other phones as our model is not quite as epic as the original as the original captivate galaxy s is still a great phone and being an attention whore still lol..
But we are All trying to do our best to get more mods out there.
I personally use ICS 4.0.4 stock (custom modded to my needs)
And run lite kernel 1.1.1 you may want to try an update to your ROM from gingerbread to ICS and I beleive at&t launched an official update with samsung, maybe try it and see if it helpa
Thanks for the replies but i'm not on AT&T but rather Rogers in Canada.
Also, I would update to ICS but from the other ongoing threads there is an issue with the phone not receiving calls\sms on those roms once it goes to sleep mode so i want to avoid that until it is fixed.
From the sounds of it the only solution is to flash a new kernel (such as ardatdat's) thats specifically says it fixes the issue. Perhaps I can figure out how to change overclock settings so that it runs stock speeds.
To flash a Kernel do I just use Odin like a Rom flash? Are there any How To's on Kernel flashing? I haven't found one around here for the glide.
Thanks
The AOSP ROMs default to stock clocks, why haven't you upgraded yet?

I come from rogers too.. the ICS update will work fine for you and overclock doesn't affect anything. I was using literom with lite kernel 1.1.1 before upgrading to cm10.. then pacman 18.2 and now on liquid smooth
You should at least upgrade to Ics.. phone runs faster and smoother and GPS is fixed in literom too.
What version of GB are you using ? I upgraded to the latest GB first when I got my glide and I don't recall data stats not working
The current os is 2.3.5 (Kernel 2.6.36.3), The latest one available for the phone through Kies. All the data usage counting apps do not work on this phone. They all report about 1/1000th of the actual usage. Wifi data reports correctly but thats not what's important.
roothorick: I searched for "AOSP Rom" and what i found was an alpha build with a bunch of known issues. As this is my wife's phone, this wouldn't go over well. Keeping the phone looking and functioning the same as much as possible is key.
yohan4ws: I was planning on upgrade to ICS but now i'm reading the threads about the issues with the phone not receiving calls or sms once it goes to sleep. That is unacceptable as it is the main purpose of having a phone. So you aren't experiencing any "no radio wake" issues with your setup?
