Has anyone else experienced the banding 16bit bug after updating to NoDo?
More info here: http://wmpoweruser.com/has-the-htc-update-caused-some-windows-phones-to-go-16-bit/
These constant issues are getting to me.
I have an Omnia 7!
To see if you have banding you can install WP Bench of the market place > Display > Gradient test (If transitions are not smooth = banding)
For the Fix please see below:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z45p1-0822Y
(Thanks for the link: Saijo)
Please note that the registry settings show minor performance differences depending on the phone model used. (Please read the thread for more info)
Warning: A known bug after changing the registry entries is the Red Screen Bug
Current Mango demo units still show banding (24/5/11)

I don't have the issue. First thing first, did you use a hack to get NoDo?
I experienced this issue before and after NoDo unfortunately.
I have banding on my Focus. I updated to NoDo using the count method.

I unbranded my DTM JJ6 rom with the Samsung unbrander to get pre Nodo, then 5 sec disconnection trick to get NoDo.
My firmware, boot version didnt change when updating to NoDo:
pda i8700XXJJ6
phone i8700XXJJ6
csc i8700DTMJJ6
OS: 7.0.7390.0
firmware 2424.10.10.6
hw 3.15.0.4
radio 2424.10.10.6
hw 0.0.0.800
boot 4.10.1.9
soc 0.36.2.0
I will try to use the back up created by Zune to revert back to pre NoDo tonight to see if it will help.
Dont know what the cause of this issue is.
Yes I do have this issue. I think this is universal after Nodo update.
I found a soln confirmed for SAMSUNG DEVICES by changing the following keys:
HKLM\Drivers\Display\Primary\PrimBPP dword 32
HKLM\Drivers\Display\Primary\bpp dword 32
HKLM\Drivers\Display\Primary\PanelBPP dword 32
Then reboot.
There will be a slight performance degrade after change.
BTW Originally the color in Picture hub is fine. The preview mode is 16bit but if you look at it at original size it's 32bit.
isnt this an issue with all SAMOLEDs in general? I am still on pre pre NoDo (7004) and have this issue. ATT Samsung Focus

This is not related to the screen material, it's some software configuration.

it actually depends on your bootloader, or the firmware that comes with the bootloader.
every phone with bootloader above 1.26 should have the gradient color issue.
TMODE 1.25 no issue
HTC EU 1.26 no issue
HTC EU 1.28 issue
HTC EU 1.30 issue
i didnt try other versions..
now the NODO update by zune didnt include updated bootloader/firmware
so if u had bootloader 1.26 or lower and updated your phone to nodo (os version 7390) then this wont affect your bootloader.
the htc update seems to update the bootloader, while i wish they would send the updated bootloader to mozart's, they color brand throphys and HD7 xD
1.30 bootloader on mozart has autofocus (i want that!)
great job on the fix im goin to try it....
I can see it on my HTC Arrive.
Or maybe it's Firmware/System mixed issue. Samsung, LG and HTC (DVP not sure) phones all have such problem.

The registry fix only applies to your home screen, lock screen and apps.
The internal browser rendering engine (IE, Email) will stay 16bit, which looks bad.

Don't know what to tell ya. I applied the value of 32 to every value that referenced BPP. Still no change. If HTC put a 16-bit display in my phone I'm not happy because everything in a Google search says this phone should be 24-bit.

Attention! I found out that the damn FASTBOOT option is causing a lot of problems esp related to camera and browser screen glitches.
My wife's one X is on fastboot and had a auto reboot and a few force closes and screen glitches started to appear, compared to mine with fastboot off from first day had non of the above mentioned issues.
Go to settings/Power then uncheck fastboot option and restart your phone.
pardon me if this has been mentioned.
That's not banding, banding us when gradients are not smooth. What you see are graphical glitches, these are usually graphics driver issues.
Is it a driver issue? If it is then won't all units be effected? Or some with ealier firmware? I am using 1.26.401 and do not have this problem.

I don't own a One X (yet) but maybe it's a setting or it depends on the codecs of the movie used. On my SGS2 there is a setting to force 2d hw acceleration under development options, try toggling it
have this issue aswell. comming up sometimes in browser.
ok i watched the video and i can see it's occurring in a specific scenario when the menu drops down
I can safely say it might very well be a kernel problem, most custom GB kernels on the Desire HD had a similar problem when an HD video is played in portrait, only the official kernel worked well but then we had to wait for HTC to give us the source
but why some have it and others don't? despite being on same firmware?
usually a device have different configurations internally, such as two/three different sources for the screen, camera or sensors, there might be a conflict with a specific combination and hence again a kernel problem
or a random Tegra3 related memory leak that needs plugging
third possibility might be a defect somewhere in the device or SOC, but after watching this video i think its unlikely

I don't know if i should DOA it, you pay hell of money and you get this feeling.
This is a widespread hardware problem not a driver issue. Some samples have it and others don't even though they are on the same software version.

yea i already know this one, seems similar to the above, unless the nudging on the screen is physically causing it, can also be graphics acceleration drivers issue
like i said on the Desire HD whenever video acceleration get messed up it shows similar corruption and its all software related, we know T3 accelerates video by NEON in each core and also in the battery saver core, its definitively an NV mess
if nativestranger is correct then HTC have a disaster on their hands, still even hardware issues if figured out can be plugged by software like HTC disabled the 2d core in certain Sensation configurations

It's very sporadic. I just got the YouTube glitch too, when the video is in HD it glitches like crazy. These glitches also happens in the browser and the notification bar. But sometimes it.dosent look like in the video, it more like "noise" on the screen, but never lasts long enough to get it on camera... So people might.not be able to reproduce it.

That issue is software related, the video directly above it appears to be a sence UI problem. the one on the main tread i can't replicate even with 2d hardware rendering.

I tried with GOlauncher and i couldnt provoke it to glitch, i fastpressed the notification bar but nothing happend so i guess its a Sense 4.0 problem?
---------- Post added at 12:47 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:22 AM ----------
Could you try this:
Go into safemode:
1. Press " power key " for power on device
2. Wait until "HTC logo" appears on screen
3. Press and hold " Volume down key " until entering OS
4. " Safe Mode " text will appears on the lower left of screen Safe mode will disable all 3rd party apps and only preinstalled apps will work, this is done because some of 3rd party apps can interfere with your phone functionality.
In safe mode try to fastpress the notification bar couple/plenty times
to try provoke the glitches, i cant provoke them.. In safe mode all 3rd part apps are off, could this problem have to do something with 3rd party apps?

I am in India too and I got the update. I have unlocked the bootloader and I was surprised that I got the OTA working without requiring locking it. Maybe it is a requirement for running RUU only. All I had to do was flash back the stock recovery for the OTA flashing to work.
Edit:
Update gave me a new baseband and that renders the RUU I have useless. Started getting reboots when answering phone calls. Went back my trusted modaco vanilla and a kernel I have built updated to kernel verrsion 3.0.38

Hey guys, is it just me or there's something wrong with my phone. The issue I found is that whenever you're using a non-infinity wallpaper, the notification panel, when dragged from the lock screen, is so laggy. I can confirm it is with the infinity wallpaper because I tried reformatting my phone and the problem is resolved, but then when I changed my wallpaper to any non-infinity wallpaper, even samsung's stock ones, the notification panel lags so much

If you have not factory reset since updating to Pie, that will likely be why
I see this too with a static wallpaper. The first bit of travel (about the thickness of the status bar) is a bit bumpy. It's nice and smooth with an infinity wallpaper.

For my case, the frame drops are still in there after changing from WQHD to FHD, but they are noticeably lesser. And yeah, works fine in my home screen too.

Are you on CSA2? Because I have the build from December. Pie CRL1, I think there are better optimizations in the later build since changelist numbers are different. Will try flashing CSA2 once I finished downloading it, when it's still no luck, maybe try a hard reset then.

Nope, i wasn't rooted
Got it via the updater app..
Green tint totally fixed
but image retention persist
Definitely not getting it in the US right now, either in system updates or the Oxygen updater
Doesnt mention display improvement
I noticed image retention a few days ago on the battery bar at the top. Ghosting can happen. I removed all icons from bar at the top but it took 24 hours for the battery ghosting to disappear. 24 hours.
Due to burn in risk I removed these icons for good.
With the new update put icons back and I can confirm the ghosting still remains. Don't want to test long term as I'm worried about burn In
got it through updater. green tint is massively improved. maybe even solved (cannot comment as I can't go into a fully dark room right now), but there is clearly some shade difference moving the brightness lower (likely when PWM changes its rate). I do notice a bit of a red effect around some elements but it is too early to tell if it is anything.
also DC Dimming black crush is improved massively, I am super happy about that

Nice to see Oneplus is busy to enable 5g for new providers on every OTA, it sucks they didn't activate VF NL (yet)
Maybe they're holding on the US to give us dual sim.... Or is this wishful thinking?
These version is EU only.

Hasn't come out on the AA models yet. Not even on the Oxygen updater app.

Would guess wishful ....ha ha
Now will be checking every few hours for AA.
The Bluetooth connectivity is so messed up with this update that the phone is not usable with a Bluetooth headset (and its the only way how I take calls). I dont get this: I hoped that they improved the WiFi 5Ghz problem and video stutter issue ( I didnt checked the first one) with the update, but they messed up one of the essential functions of the phone. The problem is: the phone is 1000 Euro and after every update it has at least one MAJOR ISSUE. I couldnt use it normally for a single day for a 1000 Euro phone. And I wanted to give it a chance. This is getting rediculous.
I think they fixed the green tint with the red tint?. Anyway much better than before. I want to try for a day the input lag of the touchscreen and the tint if are gone
