ive moved all the apps that the system will let me, but i still need more memory.
im rooted ,ext4, genocide kernal plus a few mods. i havent partitioned a sd card since my OG droid.
so what would be the easiest way to get apps2sd so i can put all my apps on there weather the system will let me or not.
i came from a droid 2 so i had 8 gigs of internal plus my 32 gb sd. so now i just have the 32 gb sd. bc the epics mem is lacking.
thanks in advance!
BUMP,
no one?
Well, did you try using the Apps2SD app in the Market?
yea that just tells me which ones can be moved, i was hoping there was a way to partition the sd like my og droid and put ALL the apps on the sd weather the system would let me or not
No. The only apps that you can move to your SD card are the apps that have the apps2sd feature.
Sent from my Samsung Epic
i am almost 100 % on my og droid once i permanently partitioned my sd card i could move all the apps on it, even widgets. maybe this was phased out in 2.2 idk. but i gotta figure something out, every app that can be on sd is. and im out of space
what will happen if i use rom manager to partition my sd?
Same as if you did it thru cwm

If you have a froyo rom the stock system has the capability to move certain apps to the sd card. If you have Titanium Backup Pro/Donate veriion you can move all your apps to sd card.

i have the donate ver, and it only lets certain apps move to sd
so i know on my og droid the partition worked and i could move all apps and widgets to sd, would the same be true for the epic? there has to be a way to get all my apps
This is where rom developers should implement dark tremors apps2sd.
It is a very useful app and I miss not having it on the epic. Coming from the evo it was a great addition.
Well Titanium BU has an option to move all apps to sd but it seems if you monitor the memory closely it still leaves some behind even though the system will report them as residing on the card...
This post may merit some discussion though it is a bit dated

You can partition your card through CWM, but make a backup because everything on the sd card is going bye bye. I partitioned my sd card with a 128 Mb size and use it for swapping in my Bonsai rom.

sweet ill partition tomorrow, is there a way to stop this thing from scanning all files on sd card on every boot up, sometimes twice? i got a 32gb and it takes forever to boot up
The dual sd card screening bug doesn't ever appear to being worked on.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
Nothing. Because of the phone you are using (epic 4g) it will not allow you to put all of the apps on your SD card. One potential solution is finding a custom ROM you like and taking it up with the developer, as a suggestion for a future version, or as an update in the near future.
Yes put a .nomedia in the folders you don't want scanned. Don't forget the period in front of nomedia

You can use a free app on the market called SD Increase which will increase the read / write speed of your phone.

Hi Everyone,
i currently have a Rooted HTC Desire with DJ Droid V1.2 and froyo. I have setup my SD card partitioned to 512mb. Everytime i install an app to the SD card or even move it to the SD card, it still takes up the full space on the phone. For example i had 116mb free on my internal storage then after installing fennic (takes up 18.51mb) i had 97.80mb left so it took up 18.19mb out of a 18.51mb install.
Am i doing something wrong? can anyone advise?

ok fair enough but look at how little space is actually being stored on the sd card (0.32mb) Are you saying that the app is only 0.32mb and 18.51mb of that app is data? by the way ive never used this app so i dont know how it has 18.51mb of data.

ok i prob picked a bad app as an example i was just trying to get something with a large install. i tried it with another few apps after partitioning my sd card and it seems to work fine. Thanks man.
Just one question. what is app2sd for? is that the routed version of what froyo has? it only lists like 2 apps to be able to move. which one moves the apps to the ext partition, app2sd or applications (in system menu)?

Not all apps will have the ability to "move to sd" on froyo, however with "apps2sd+" or "ext apps2sd" everything will be saved onto the ext parition of the sd card.
So since i have app2sd already preinstalled on the djdroid rom, i already see all my apps are movable to the SD card. is that correct? or are just most apps movable anyway
app2SD doesnt MAKE all YOUR APPS MOVABLE. It just alerts you when an app is movable.

Two things!
1. Why resurrect a thread that is nearly 3 months old?
2. If someone is using Apps2SD with an EXT partition, everything is already installed on the EXT partition and so is already on the SD card. There's no point "moving" it to SD since all you'd be doing is shifting it from the EXT partition to the FAT32 partition!

Is there a way to move all your apps to the sd card? I have apps2sd but I have so many apps that my internal storage is almost full even after I moved all my apps that will go. But is there a way to trick the phone to install them all to the sd card? Im rooted.
Bump, anyone?
Bumpity Bump Bump. I would also like to know the answer to this question.
i use move2sd enabler...it's on the market.
what it will do is enable it so you can move ALL apps to sd card...even those that dont let you...just keep in mind not all apps will work from the sd card. but you dont lose anything by trying.
i've moved large files like NFS Shift and other games that dont normally have the move option, and they work just fine. same thing for the fascinate lwps that you flash, etc.
try it out
install move2sd enabler, run it and click i've read, next, and set it to external. click ok. then you move the apps through the Application Management part of the Settings

when I did this first my phone rebooted, tried again, rebooted again, then tried again and it went through like 160 apps in like five min or so, then checked available memory and nothing changed, rebooted to see if anything would change and nothing changed, any word what im doing wrong? fresh 3.3
Isint there something to do where you have to partition your sd card?
I have a question how do I install apps to SD card?
Why should I do it and what apps?
Are you rooted? I'm pretty sure that you can only move apps to the SD card if your rooted. And it's called Apps2Ext or something like that, you can only use it if your rooted(from what I know atleast.)
Easy.
There is an app in the market called "App 2 sd",this app automatically selects the apps that you can move from the phone over to your sd card. As for why you would want to do this well, for one thing and mainly by doing so you free up valuable space on the phone it self.Do your self a favor & pick up @least a 16gb sd card it makes life a whole lot easier. Hope this helps.

I was going to say that but isn't that just for rooted phones? Or is Apps2Ext only for rooted phones?
Your G2 has Froyo, which allows apps to sd without being rooted. If the app developer allows it, you can move the apps you choose to the fat32 partition of your sd card.
All you have to do is go to settings>>>applications>>>manage applications>>>click on the app of your choosing, then you will get the option to "Move to SD card"
Once you click on that, it will automatically be moved to the SD card. To confirm, in the manage applications page, you will see "On SD card" on the top right corner. Click on it, and you will see which apps have been moved.
Apps to SD is used basically just to save space. On older phones, like the G1, you could only install about 30 apps before the phone memory started to get full. They made apps2ext to fix this low memory problem once you had a rooted phone. Froyo fixes the need to even root the phone to get apps on the sd card.
Honestly, the G2 has plenty of space for me that I do not need apps to sd. I really only see the need for anyone to utilize this on the vision phones if you plan on having hundreds of apps installed.
Hope this helped.
it is helps a lot thank you. I thought the reason to tho apps to memory card list to make phone run faster
It actually runs slower to have the apps on the sd card. That was the one downfall of apps2ext on the G1, especially when you ran sense roms because a lot of things were run on the ext parition and were dependent on running from the sd card for it to work.
It is better to run them all on the phone memory, if at all possible, IMHO.

This is a BS version of A2SD. /.android-secure won't let you back your apps up the way /system/sd/app and /system/sd/app-private will, and the apps on the FAT32 partition won't start up on boot.
I hope the real A2SD is incorporated on Gingerbread builds.
I've had this card in my rooted Droid 1 as well as a Archos 101 tablet and in both of those instances I've moved apps to SD as the internal storage on those is too small. Now that I'm going to be using this 16gb card exclusively on my rooted Evo 4G I have no reason to have space taken up by apps that won't be used or are on internal storage on this device. I want to find the folder and delete the contents to free up some space. I see one called /Android/data and another that is just /data both on the SD card. Either of these what I'm looking for? The former appears to have some older apps that I'm not using any longer but it also seems to have a couple that I'm currently using but haven't knowingly moved to SD card.
Thanks!

I'm not talking about the current location of all my current installed apps. I'm talking about the location of apps when we move them to the sd card. I wish to locate those folders from my previous devices and delete them as all of my current apps on this device are on the device and not moved to the SD card so anything on my SD card in the way of apps should be from previous devices.

android 2.2 uses the .android_secure folder on your sdcard. for the native apps2sd. if you are using some other kind they use a ext2 or ext3 partition on your sdcard. you will need gparted or linux to see this type.

You could do that, but first, were you using some other type of apps2sd? Not the android native one that started in version 2.2? Dark tremor or any other flashable or aftermarket apps2sd that uses a ext partition on your sdcard?

I would have used a combination of individually clicking 'Move to SD card' within some of the apps as well as SDMove (which I believe actually uses the same location as moving them within the apps themselves). I don't think I used anything else but I had that phone for 18mos so it's hard for me to remember for sure. On my current Evo I haven't moved any apps to the SD Card because there's much more room on the phone than my Droid 1 and I'm actually running into problems w/capacity on my external 16gb SD card. Hence the reason I'm trying to free up some more space from objects that are unnecessary.
Ok, so what you can do is just backup your music and pictures and whatever else that you know what it is and format the card. Then move everything back afterwards.

I was hoping to avoid a format but sounds like I may not have much of a choice. I need to back up pictures, Mp3's, Titanium backup, Clockwordmod and a couple other folders and reformat. I was hoping it would be easier to track down all the loose ends though.

If you moved them just using the Move to SD card built into Froyo (including apps like SDMove that just help you do that), you shouldn't need to reformat. That's only if you set up an ext3 partition.
Mount the card and view it from the computer (or use a card reader) and delete .android_secure. The real folder is hidden when the card is mounted on the phone.
So I know that out of the 16 GB about half is taken up by the Samsung apps I'm fine with that. My question is this it shows 9.72 total space and if I add up everything on the internal SD card I should have about 4.5 GB available although it shows only 3.2 GB left. Any ideas where I should look or apps I could use to help trouble shoot this. I am using the Dark-stalker Rom latest version. This problem did happen with the stock ROM as well. The only thing I can think of is I used folder mount to store some data from a few game loft games on my external card. Since then I have deleted the games and unpinned the folders to be mounted to the SD card. I'm at a loss and would love any input.
I attached a pic of the storage read out
Thanks

Do you use ClockworkMod Recovery and save your backups to internal storage?
That could cause this because the rom backup doesnt show on the sd card list you posted.
