I have the stock evo htc sense rom installed, but it is rooted with revoked.
I would like to use launcher pro, i've purchased it, i've downloaded it, it says it is installed but it wont run. It's like the HTC launcher wont release it's clutches on it.
Any ideas?
Try going into settings, applications, manage apps, all, htc launcher, clear defaults. Then press home. Or dl home switcher from the market
We're comin from a pure power source.
Embarrassingly enough i figured it out. It was the fact that i was just dl the serial number for the paid version, not the actual app... sigh. LOL.

Hi there!
I've written a FAQ with Android tips & tricks and tweaks that I try to keep updated, and when I made an attempt to turn off HTC Sense on my Desire the other day in order to get the default Android homescreen, the old method didn't work.
Clearing the defaults for HTC Sense had no effect, and Home wasn't even listed in the application manager.
Is there another way? Perhaps Sense on Android 2.1 devices goes so deep that there isn't even a vanilla Android below it anymore?
Thanks
When you say "no longer possible" are you saying you were able to do this before? From what I know Launcher2, the default 2.1 app launcher, is not installed so you have to find the apk somewhere and install that first.
When the reviewers were first getting hold of Desire's I think there was a video of someone turning off Sense and running stock Android. It was a really simple process too, from what I remember.
When the phone was officially released people noticed you couldn't do this any more.
I think that's what the OP is referring to.
HTC removed the standard Home before they shipped the Desire, so it's never been possible on post-release handsets. It was an option on pre-release phones, though, so people got videos out showing how to do it, and then no dice...
You can install HelixLauncher 2 or 1, which will give you similar homes. I'm not sure if the regular Launcher2.apk will install - I seem to remember trying it and failing. Don't recall for sure, though.
not again lol....well this has been discussed before again and again, the retail version's sense ui cannot be turned off...
Well, it can if you install a different home replacement and clear Sense's defaults.
You can install Launcher2.apk you should be able to find it in some other threads
(use the search?). I had no problems installing it.
Then do the 'clear defaults' setting on the Sense UI application, press 'home' and it will ask you which home screen you want to use.
Better still, install the Helix Launcher 2 from the Market. I prefer it because of the ability to insert 4 static shortcuts alongside the menu button where the space was just previously wasted.
i was juss curious as to how other Rhodium owners have their Android setup. As far as looks go. Ive went thru a lot of different UI's already looking for the most stable one. Im Currently running the: Crazy Home Lite, FreedHome, Home(default), TagHome, and ZEAM. All of those are very customizable. Some let u use the Live wallpapers, and some dont. Some will even let u have up to 9 different screens, if u choose. it goes on and on on the type of mods u can do. |ike my AOSP build looks alot better n slicker thn some of these Sense ones. Its just the way i customized it, thats all.
So what are u using? or what have u done? Screenshots, even better..lol

Stock vanilla 2.1. home & launcher. I would like to get ADW launcher to work though. Those home replacement apps are lame. I had a phase where I would test every new home replacement app, but I always found that a decent modded launcher and stock home was the best combo. Most modded launchers will let you choose the number of home screens and which to set as the default. So many mods that I haven't been able to get working on this build. Wysie's contacts, ADW Launcher, now pushing Meltus' volume hack as I type.
I'm just waiting for the Evo 4G and Galaxy S to launch to make my decision on what phone to get. I'm not disparaging the TP2, I just obviously need Android on a native device. I need options.

The hottest, most advanced phone coming out is the Dell Streak. It drops this summer or september. Its a fully fledged 5 in Tablet PC with Capacitive touch screen, multitouch, Cam on the front and back(dual cam), 5in screen, Snapdragon processor, has latest bluetooth, wifi, and check this 3G CONNECTIVITY YEAHHHHHHHH....which means i can juss plop my sim in there and im good to go because its also a phone but being marketed as a Fully capable Tablet PC. My pops getting the EVO soon. ive been trying to school him on it and this website.

haved u ever tried to use the MetaMorph? i tried but it says i need busybox. if u look n the system file processes or whatever, we already have busybox or some version of it already installed in our builds. Its just not active or i dont know how to activate it to use it.
Yeah, I used MetaMorph to theme some parts of some former builds. I haven't tried it on the TP2 though.
I'm pretty sure busybox is in AOSP. Try running just "busybox" in terminal, you'll see that it at least is loaded. Whether it works fully or not, I haven't been able to confirm. I actually used some busybox commands when I was pushing the .csv volume hacks earlier today, but again, that didn't work.
yeah, ive seen it in my AOSP. Just havent been able to activate or use it to allow Metamorph to wrk. Metamorph keeps telling me i need busybox..figures..lol

I love AOSP.
Sense is a waste of resource for me--eye candy without significant UI improvement.
Ok, I have my last minor issue to deal with I hope. HTC Sense is the only interface i can use. I tried disabling the HTC sense as default in the manage applications area then did a force shutdown of it. Pressed home and HTC sense reload automatically.
Is this apart of the update recently or I'm I missing.something ?
You can try installing Launcher Pro -- and when you hit Home it should give you a choice.

I suppose we all have to guess whether you've installed another launcher or not.
If you download home switcher you can set either one to your default.

So recently I installed Go Launcher for my G2 running CM7.0.3 RC2 (I'm pretty sure) and it was working fine. In fact it looks way sleeker than Launcher Pro. Anyways, so it's working fine. But just recently, whenever I lock the phone, after about 2-3 seconds. The phone will restart. I've tried switching launchers but that doesn't seem to work. I've tried formatting to a factory reset, and that works. But I have a lot of settings and apps I kind of don't want to redownload or reset. Any ideas?
Try adw ex
Cyanogen comes with adw
Stands to reason it would be more compatible
Lots of nice features

Well another thing I found out, my Wi-Fi doesn't turn on anymore. It says "Error" when I try to turn it on.
Older version of Launcher Pro Plus is the best many features + older verison still allows scrollable contact widget.

OK, I've seen a few threads similar to this question, but no definitive answers anywhere. I'm currently running SnS Sense ROM 1.5, and I've been looking for a launcher that's a bit different than the stock one, mainly because I like the dock that's across the bottom, similar to what I had with MIUI. After trying out ADW, LauncherPro and GO Launcher EX, I've decided on GO. It just fits what I need best, and the calendar application (which is actually very important to me for work) is second to none, even standalone widgets on the market. Now, I want to uninstall the stock launcher, mainly because it takes up almost 7 MB of space on a system where I really only have about 45 MB of free space (with it installed). If I uninstall it, will I not be able to reinstall b/c it's a system app if I decide to go back to it, like what happens if you uninstall Facebook for Sense? Also, can I uninstall HTC Sense as well, or should I not uninstall either of them? I could really use the space though. Would freezing it via Titanium give me that space back?
Really if you are going to delete the launcher altogether (which I don't know much about) if you don't use much of sense, get an AOSP ROM. You would be able to afford to have an additional launcher on top of stock with plenty of room.

Nah, I had MIUI for about 3 months before going back to Sense....it's not Sense I dislike, it's really just the stock launcher. I like the integration of everything that Sense has, especially Facebook for Sense. I really kinda wanna just delete the launcher. I think what I'm going to do is set up GO launcher the way I want, so I have both Sense with stock launcher and GO launcher both running the way I want, then I'll make a Nandroid of that. Once I have that, I can reboot, delete the launcher and see what happens without fear of really screwing things up. I still would like an answer to my questions though, if anyone can help out.
