Hey Guys..
I have a Desire here in my Hands with a strange type of Brick.. (at least one I've never seen before) ..
It just does not react to anything at all. The battery is charged and I tested with another cell to be sure that is not the trivial cause.
No Bootloader, No HTC Logo, No reactions at all..
Did happen while flashing a Froyo 2.2 Rom + Radio + App2SD (from the xda forums) via ClockworkMod Recovery but I wasn't there to witness the actual Flash.
After flashing the device hung desperately in a screen with the robot in front of a box with an arrow .. looked like unpacking or so, but wasn't doing anything at all for at least half an hour.
Then battery removed -> Brick.
Anyone got any Idea?

I suspect you removed the battery whilst it was flashing the radio. This is insta-brick territory and as far as I'm aware there is no cure other than sending it in to HTC.
Regards,
Dave
If you can access fastboot as opposed to bootloader you might be talking failing that back to HTC it goes
if your phone can not turn off whilst holding either volume down or the back button then yeah it's a brick, send it off to htc, just say it overheated and wont turn on again

The battery was removed after flashing and rebooting.
Installed in the following order:
32.41.00.32U_5.08.00.04.zip
LeeDrOiD_V1.2b.zip
942_desire_froyo_a2sd-signed.zip
every process seemed to work normal, no error happened.
Then rebooted the Desire and the "Box with Android-Bot" Screen appeared.. this hung for 30 min or more when I could not think of any other solution than removing the battery to reset..
After this -> nothing.
I suppose as you say it has to do something with the Radio ROM..
Been coming from OpenDesire 1.6b - every flash ran perfectly up to this point.
Damn, I think this one has to go back to HTC.
Is there any possibility to unbrick a phone thats not responding at all?
Could HTC be aware of the modifications or will they really just go with the "overheated and won't turn on again" explanation?
Thanks for your help so far guys!
Yea, the little Droid with the box thing is during a radio flash and you should never pull the battery during that as it does result in a brick.
Can you reach fastboot as mentioned up above?
..tried pressing the "back" button with the power button and the vol-down button together with the power button..
even did the "insert the battery while holding the button" method..
I don't think I can get the thing to Fastboot..
But I will look further into this and try..
..
Has anyone had a Radio Brick and sent this to HTC before?
Is the repair covered by warranty?
Do you guys think they even get this is no real HW failure?

I know someone who sent their phone back with a pretty much identical issue and the phone was fixed under warranty no problem.
Regards,
Dave
yay!
you know, even one post of you telling me it went allright for another guy is a big relief..
EDIT: just wanted to let you know I tried invoking fastboot via usb and the android PC tools..
just keeps waiting for the device.. and waiting ..
..will analyse USB traffic in general to conclude if there is a little itsy bit of life left in the phone, but I think this is a dead end too.
thank u all for ur help i have managed to unlock the phone as described
thanks alot every1
saifiraq: You seem to have stumbled in the wrong thread or could we help by coincidence?
..UPDATE:
Did usb-sniffer analysis while pulling battery, trying to turn on, plugging usb in etc.
NOTHING at all..
My baby is on it's way to HTC now.. wish me luck guys!
Tried couple different roms, factory resets, full wipe etc, Phone is still rebooting itself after even 2 min usage on google maps, navigation
Is there a point to unroot the phone, come back to 2.1 ruu to find out or maybe the phone need to be send back for repair?
Thanks Guys

It's a damn common problem on Desire. Also i have the same problem. When the phone try to connect to 3G network go in crash. Also i tried more times full wipe, hard reset, RUU. Nothing. The issue is HARDWARE. The only way is the substition og the phone (or of the motherboard).
Good Luck
Same for mine. Sent to HTC for repair
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Thanks Guys, That's what I thought but didn't like to put it through my mind,
One me thing: Do I need to raise a query on htc website? And of course unroot the phone to stock

Of course. Make a hard reset to unroot, send to HTC assistance and write a EMail to HTC customer care with detailed issue of your phone

Yup, same here. I've allready sent my device for repair and now waiting for new device. It's hardware issue.
Regards, X.
My desire kept restarting whilst using open desire and dj Droid Rom. Since I've switched back to official 2.1 stock Rom not rooted my phones not rebooted once. So I'm not sure if its always a hardware related thing. Hmmm

Probably you have bootloader 0.80
Try with stock ROM 1.21.XXXXXX
It's was ok for me
My Desire would soft-reset at least once daily on the stock 2.1 ROM. Switching to Cyanogen has fixed that. Which I was surprised to find.

THANK YOU!
I think someone should put this info into the sticky topic, there is nothing to mention that you need this specific ruu to unroot 0.0 bootloader...
I will test the phone now to see if the reboots are still in th case...
Could anyone who send their phone away tell me how long would take to get the phne fix in uk? can they provide a replacement or up to us to bother?
Ta
I've noticed that mine will reboot constantly after I flash a new ROM.
However, I don't think it's the flashing that is the issue. See after a wipe and flash I usually sign into Google to get sync my contacts and calendar.
Since 2.2 the phone tries to automatically download apps from the market.
If I'm using HSPA (3G) to download while the phone is plugged in and charging I will 100% of the time get constant reboots until I physically remove the battery.
Even then, if I remove the charger and try the phone will keep rebooting. I usually end up having to charge the battery while the phone is off then remove the charger. It will then usually work with no issue or random reboots.
I've tested this when I'm using Wi-Fi - Never a reboot issue.
Also tested using extensive 3G (soon after flash) without charger plugged in. Phone will sometimes (maybe 25% of the time) go into a boot loop with each reboot occurring within a few minutes of each startup.
It's no secret that the phone gets hot when using 3G to download a lot of data. For some reason this is compounded after each flash.
I use syspanel to monitor battery temps and in the situations described above where the phone starts constantly rebooting the temps are around 36c - 38c. I'm not exactly sure because it reboots before I can get accurate temp.
I question syspanel accuracy because it feels bloody hot! Temps are normally usually around 22 - 27c and it feels cool to the touch. Hard to believe 10c can make that much difference.
Could this be a hardware design, like how CPUs will throttle once a certain temp is reached to prevent damage? Or maybe thermal paste (is that even used in phones?) not properly applied to some component on the PCB.
Perhaps others can comment on their battery temps. Sounds like that's the issue if maps and navigation (data + battery intensive) cause reboots.
Also, as mentioned by someone else I can't remember (sorry to the poster) after I update or restore Launcher Pro my battery drain becomes ridiculous (I've lost 100% in 4 hrs). Quick reboot after update or restore solves the drain.
Now the phone is running stock rom and radio,
Tried google maps today, and it only last for about 2 min before reboot, when the phone is in normal usage like calls and texts I never had a reboot,
Must be a overheating components, like you said thermal paste or something.
Tonite i will give them a phone and the courier to pick it up.
Do you think guys is worth to mention about mainboard? that will need to be replace or just mention overheating issues and constant reboots?
Do they provide a replacement unit for the time being?
Thanks all

That's exactly the issue I had - could replicate a reboot within minutes of Google Maps use. I also believe this to be a heat/paste issue, as the unit got incredibly hot (on one occasion almost too hot to pick up).
Mine was replaced as being faulty (with Virgin in the UK) after I recited several forums and a google search to the operative. You might be able to get this with Three if you push for it but Virgin are the only ones I know of actually replacing the handsets (FYI thier callcentre staff seem to know thier stuff).
I will miss my desire Courier will pick it up tomorrow and God knows how long it will take to get it fixed!!
Customer Service was excellent so far, the guy even said that this is actually quite a common issue with Desire( too much power inside such a small device)
Hopefully I'll get a new motherboard!
Thanks guys for all your help! Now is the time to start up OLD grandpa Sony Ericcson for the time being...
Reboot with GPS and Charging
Hi
I have send my desire for repair, because it reboots every time i use navigation and charging at same time. Navigation alone dosn't reboot.
I tried to reinstall, but HTC would let me have the file to try to rewrite the ROM.
I try to times to clear the phone several times, but now i just wait to see if they will find the problem or just rewrite the ROM.

People, see this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=676402
It may be a hardware fault and seens to be a know issue for HTC (read the statements).
Read that thread and you'll see you have do send your Desire to repair/replace.
No matter what rom I use I always seem to get random reboots.
They are completely random but happen often when browsing the web.
I have amonra and its s-off
Currently trying my own rom based on ruu just with superuser and busybox but still get random reboots.
Would just flashing an ruu fix my problems? although I would loose mods :-(
No you probably have a faulty motherboard. So you have to unroot and send it to HTC.
You may want to do some reading HTC Desire Rebooting on its own, might give some more insight.

Faulty motherboard? How could I confirm this?
I got the phone on contract so I should be within my 12months warranty...
I was getting random reboots and crashes during satnav. HTC asked for it back so they have it now for repair. Probally a faulty m/board as the camera has also gone "fuzzy"
i also have same problem but my phone is not under warranty...
can u pls tell me any other solution to get rid of this prblm.
You can still send it to HTC just it wont be free to fix.
Hi i had the same problems but a trip to the htc repairservice fixed it so thats the best you can do

I have Random Reboots and Bootloops and I'm not sure what is the cause. I can go days without it and other times it will happen twice a day... most of the time when I'm using power hungry apps that require gps or online games... and if I use any such apps while the phone is on charge it is almost certain to happen!!
So often the phone will be hot as well...
This is the 3rd custom rom I'm trying to get this solved however it's not solving the issue...
my phone never did this prior to using cooked Rom's... Any suggestions??
Hi, I think my phone just broke.
It's a HTC Desire Z.
Today I tried flshing a new radio image, but it didn't work , got the write failed message, from within phone os (virtuous froyo 1.0.2)
Got hboot 0.85.xxxx.
This was at work and since I had no compatible USB cable I thought I'd wait until I got home.
Well at home i selected boot to bootloader from holding the power button, the phone shutdown and that's it.
Now only lifesigns are the orange charge led.
When pulling the battery and inserting it, connectiong the usb cable the light comes on, pulling the cable it turns of.
When cable connected and pressing vol down + power, nothing happens, pulling the cable leaves the charge light still on.
Trying vol down + power without the cable does aboslutely nothing.
Do, does anyone have any clue what I can do ?
The phone worked flawlessly until the reboot point.
Iknow the first desire had some special key combination to get into some blue-led mode, haven't found anything on this so far.
it does not show up in devices in computer management either.
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!
P.S. I found the vol up + power it shows up as Qualomm CDMA Technologies MSM in device management.

There must be a way to recover this type of brick, to dd a new hboot image.
Lets face it, the hboot image was flashed to a brand new HW at some point, the Q will therefor be, how do they do it, and how can we all do it?
Research continues.....
Ok, does anyone know how to fix a broken bootloader on the Desire Z ?
I figured out that the bootloader is broken, this because I mixed up radio and hboot image yesterday and tried to write the radio image to hboot partition, this is why I got a message telling me write error because of space issues.
Now I have my old Desire Bravo, wich is working better than all desire bravos here at work
But I want my Z back in bizniz.

either way mate i really hope you get it sorted soon best of luck!
You have brick your phone. bootloader is broken no fix for it. Sorry.
If you do not have warranty call htc Norway and say that you try to update your Software WITH HTC SYNC. They are very customer friendly there.

I've been talking to mcare and deltaservice, they seems to be unable to help me since the bootloader is broken, I know this issue can be worked out with JTAG on the old desire, just have to wait for JTAG update on the Z, then I'll be up and running again, btw, I'm getting a new phone AND got to keep the old one
Ohhh, yeah.
BOYAAAAHHH!
I still wonder what the volume up + power key combo is good for.
When the phone is started in this mode, it shows, as mentioned earlier, as a Qualcomm CDMA Technologies MSM device in device manager on my puter, diagnostics mode ? possible way to get write access to internal memory, like say.... /dev/block/mmcblk0p18 so we can repair the bootloader without any advanced tear down of the phone and fancy equipment ?
If ANYONE have a clue on this feel free to share it with everyone else that has a Desire z/Vision. Thank you.
btw, took some high res pics here:

What happens when you plug the phone in? Does the green/orange led light up? If it does what color? Best case scenario, you have a bad cable or a bad adaptor and your phone wasn't charging. Worst case, fried board, dead battery or dead screen (phone is on, just the screen isn't lighting up).

You can try hooking it up to a PC and see if the PC can still find your phone. But from the sounds of it, it maybe a hardware failure somewhere. I would contact HTC if it's under warranty to have it repaired.
I ahd the same problem, dead - even power did not help
Try putting it on power overnight.
I hvae it in service for now, (but I used CM10 - and it broke down) I just hope the service will not have any problems with it and don't see it, for changing my hole motherboard

After having rooted it did they fix it?
Just flashed Ice Cold Jelly and rebooted but I seem to have no power to the unit now.
Obviously the bootloader is unlocked and it is rooted so I wasn't sure if they'd even work on it or what it would cost to do so. It is still under warranty.
When you connect the phone to a pc and it comes up as APX = Hardware failure ! As far as i know there is no fix for this
They changed my motherboard and I got it back . Didn't have to pay nothing.

Found it.
I tryed everything, nothing worked. After the JB update the hox only shows his logo.
Last time i let him receive the big JB update, but before installing it i made a copy to update.zip on the root of the sd.
Then after installing the update and again only showing the htc logo, i rebooted in the recovery and used custom recovery to write the boot again. Now everything works .
Thx anyway.
Keep up the good work here:good::good::good:

lol you bricked your phone by installing an ROM meant for the international One X, not the dual core version.
HTC one international ICJ bricked
Hi all,
Please forgive me if I've done something wrong posting here, I'm new here and I'm trying to post in the most relevant forum.
I have the international HTC One X (Tegra 3 etc) and Ive been using Ice Cold Jelly for a while. Yesterday I flashed Ice Cold 2.2 (the one meant for the international) with all the recommended wipes using TWRP. The phone worked fine for about 10 mins then froze with a messed up screen. I tried to reboot but it froze again during the reboot and hasn't turned on since. There's no LED at all when it's plugged in charging to any power source and it won't boot up no matter what I do.
I've done my best to search for solutions but to no avail, any advice anyone could offer would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!:fingers-crossed:
