[Q] Rom question - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was looking in the ROM wiki and while there is a lot of info there I didn't see what I was looking for and I was hoping I could get an answer from either the devs or the users. There are a lot of rom's floating around. What I wanted to know was of the available froyo based sense rom's which one has the most storage available after flashing? Of the froyo based no-sense rom's which one has the most storage available after flashing?

I know sense based Dark Cocoa III has roughly 165+mb free when flashed and then I use root explorer to remove any other unwanted apps or things I don't use or need. Its easy to do and now I have more free space than used.

Question about non-organized ROM threads in Desire Android Development

Why so many threads....I have a suggestion to make some kind of organized threads:
modified 2.2 froyo roms with sense
modified 2.2 froyo roms without sense
and to add 1 question...is ROM MANAGER suitable to load ROM without need of RECOVERY MODE (AMON-RA) and wipe etc ?
I've always used recovery for flashing. It's easy to use and you know what it is doing. I've no idea about Rom Manager.

it has a lot of options....
Can we make some kind of excel file of all
NON SENSE and SENSE 2.2 ROM's?
With differences etc.....
Which ROM's are good with NON SENSE?

[Q] Good HTC Desire (GSM) 2.2/2.3 ROM with A2SD+ ?

Hi!
Merry Christmas and happy New Year to everyone!
I bought my HTC Desire a couple of weeks ago. After playing with it for a while, I noticed that the internal storage gets full quickly, so I tried to find a custom ROM with better storage management and features. So far my ROM experience was as follows:
1. Stock HTC Sense 2.2. Stable but bloated and a bit slow, native 2.2 A2SD doesn't work very well: internal storage gets full very quickly.
2. CyanogenMod 6.1.1. Fast, stable, clean and very convenient ROM with lots of features, probably the best I tried. Unfortunately, A2SD requires to manually run some 3rd-party scripts, native 2.2 A2SD works the same way as in stock HTC ROM.
3. LeeDroid 2.3b/c/d A2SD. Stable and relatively fast, A2SD+ works flawlessly out of the box. Unfortunately, it is bloated with Sense-like apps, slower than non-Sense ROMs, drains the battery faster than CM 6.1.1 and doesn't have some useful features CM has.
4. Oxygen 2.0 RC3/4/5/6. Fast, stable and clean ROM, supports Google A2SD only.
I liked two ROMs: CM 6.1.1 for its features and LeeDroid 2.3x for its excellent A2SD+. Unfortunately, with all due respect to the ROM developers, neither of these two is perfect
Can you please share your experience and advise, if there is any stable 2.2/2.3-based Sense-free ROM that has lots of extra features like CyanogenMod and supports A2SD+ out of the box (without the need for 3rd-party scripts to be run manually) like LeeDroid?
I will appreciate your feedback and advices!
P.S. I know there is a way to increase the storage space with a custom partition table, but I'm not prepared to explore this yet and would rather try another ROM(s) 1st.
In the oxygen thread is a zip file floating around that re-enables full A2SD+, also you can manually replace the a2sd script with a version that also moves dalvik cache. How to do that can be found in the oxygen thread and, i think, also in the oxygen FAQ thread.
I'm looking at DeFroST 6.1a ROM, which offers CM 6.1 features and built-in A2SD+ support. Is this ROM any good?
I know the rule of XDA is to read 1st, ask later, but the DeFroST ROM thread is 1814 pages long and it will be a while until I finish reading even 6.1a-related posts, thus any feedback will be appreciated
Hi, I am actually using ShadowSense
It's a based sense rom lighter than LeeDroid with native A2SD+
Just install it (from rom manager, if you want, it supports OTA) and enjoy

[Q] Questions about HTCsense and ROMS.

Fairly new to android (me and linux go way back so I'm not completely in the dark), just bought a used rooted desire running Froyo. (S-ON for now). I have a couple of questions for people who know their ****:
First: Not being such a fan of HTCsense (Too many screens, for one), is there a way of removing it leaving me with the plain vanilla Froyo interface and not having to wipe and flash a new rom?
Second: From your experience which rom would you recommend? Oxygen looks rad, but still has a bunch of issues it seems. I want something which is #1 - Stable and supports all the hardware. #2 - light/stripped/I choose the stuff I want installed on my phone?
Am I right to lean towards vanilla froyo, as a good compromise at least?
Cheers
Stu
1) You can remove the HTCSense apk file and it will uninstall it. You won't be able to use any of the HTC widgets like. I do think you need S-Off to do this though.
2) The least buggiest I would say are CyanogenMod. Seems the most stable and bug free rom out there. Have had problems with other roms. Also MIUI-Au is a lovely rom to use. If you want, you can remove the system apps from custom roms before you flash it.
Hope this helps.

[Q] Best ROM To Use

Hey I have used a few ROMs now and I am wondering what the best ROM, at least for the Desire is. Now I know that probably is opinion.
Looking for a ROM that runs the smoothest, has the most features packed into it without having any bloat crapware on it and is the most updated, with new market etc..
Thanks.

[Q] New to root

I am runnig cm7.1 .... I was wondering if some one can tell me which room is the smallest and stable and off course the coolest. I just have 81.17 mg left in my internal memory.. i also have a 32gb sd card ... I love cm7 but i have no idea if there is a better and smaller room out there ...thx for you help....
Somenthig close to ics...lol
Try dGB (just klick on my sig).
For nearly unlimited internal memory use a ROM in combination with DATA2SD / DATA2EXT-script.
I believe you have to decide what you think is cool... Check out what other people choose and their motivations in the other thread... here
Personally I left Sense 3.5 projects and went to stable and fast, and installed AN-Droid 2.1.0 data++, that gave me speed, space and (for me) a bug free ROM.
An attic would be very small and cool. hmmph

Does any body know is there is a room for htc desire call skyrider.... and also i saw like a spinning cube when u change screen to screen can any1 tell me how to get that effect....thx so much ... for ur info i am running cm7.1 and go launcher ex.. please help.... I want to make my droid sexier.....lol thx
small and stable ? well you can go past aosop based roms such as oxygen etc , if you need more space for apps you could use droid zones flashable data2sd script .zip , does the job well and since you have a large sd card it should work well etc ,dont forget to partian your sd before flashing this script .
Thank u . I'll Try it
Go for MIUI rom by XJ. Very fast, great support and stable.
Miui is very different and you would want to test before using it daily... questions about ROM's are awkward because ithere is no best rom, its your opinion..
My 2 cents:
what ROM is the best it's hard to say, because it depends on what are you looking for.
Usually when it comes to HTC Desire we have 3 macro-families of ROMS:
1) AOSP ROMS - Like CM7 or Oxygen, they are based on the STANDARD Android OS, so there is NO SENSE interface. They are usually pretty stable and light, they are very small etc. but only you can say if they are cool
2) Gingerbread - Sense 1.9/2.1 ROMS - These ROMS are somewhat similar to the stock one, with a newer version of Android (2.3.x) and a version of Sense which is close to the stock one. Most of them feature scripts like A2SD+ of Data++ for storing applications on the SD card, so that you won't finish the space too soon as it happens with the stock firmware
3) Sense 3/3.5 or ICS4 - Here we go advanced, Android is usually 2.3.5 and you have a SENSE interface taken from the latest HTC devices, if you want my opinion these ROMs are the coolest, but since they are very different from what was planned for the Desire, you can get many different issues, some programs not working as they are intended to and so on. For sure the overall experience is slower, since the CPU and RAM are downsized for such an interface. ICS ROMS are based on the new Android 4 OS, there's no SENSE interface and they are mostly alpha or beta releases, so if you want something stable you better leave them alone
Here's the link to the desire index thread where you can find all the ROMS for your Desire:

Hope I've been useful
If you enjoy cm7, I have an idea for you to get much more space for apps. First of all download GParted and make two partitions first will be about 30GB fat32 primary partition and second will be 2 GB ext4 (primary ofc). Then go to this thread and flash INT2SD script. After that almost all space from your ext4 partition will be free for apps (ext4 partition is recommended to be 1-2 GB).
So much info thx
