Before swapping my XDAIIi with my new EXEC I made a back-up on my SD CARD. BUT THE EXEC CANOT RESTORE FROM THIS LOCATION!!!..... Is there anyway of recovering my data????? thank you anyone out there with more knowledge and expertise who could help.........
Find another device running the same ROM version as your old device and restore your data to that device. The extraxt what you need and active sync. The transfer all data to the new device.
Thanks.....It was exactly what I thought. But I have tried this on 4 different machines.....and they all crashed or froze and it just didnt happen........
Is there any other possible way!? :?
When you say you made a backup on your SD card, I'm guessing you mean a backup of the entire XDAIIi system (including all your files, all program files and all ROM files).
If so, you can't restore a backup from an XDAIIi onto an XDA Exec. They're two completely different machines and the backup will be incompatible.
Like badgerboybadger says, you need to extract from your backup only those files that contain your personal data: your documents, templates, ringtones and so on. Leave behind anything connected with the device or installed programs. Then you can copy your personal data onto your Exec and it will work. If you want to transfer installed programs from the IIi to the Exec then you'll need to reinstall them on the Exec...
....silicon,
Yes Indeed, I did make a full system backup!
and you are talking about something i was not aware it is possible to do???
lets see......
you say......"you need to extract from your backup only those files that contain your personal data: your documents, templates, ringtones and so on. Leave behind anything connected with the device or installed programs. Then you can copy your personal data onto your Exec and it will work"......

Yeah - I guess that was what I was suggesting, but I've got no idea how to do this! Sorry.
I wasn't sure which way you'd have done your back up or whether it's possible to extract particular files. I suppose it must be, but I've never done it.
If you still have your XDAIIi then can you copy specific files off it?
Alternatively, do you still have a synchronised documents folder on the PC to which you used to connect it? That should have most of the documents that you'll want to keep.
If not I don't know what to suggest.
Providing your old PDA is still available, you really need a backup program that you can run on both PDAs. For example, something like Sunnysoft's Backup Manager - even a time-limited trial edition may be sufficient. Select and back up the required files/data to SD-card on the old PDA, then move the card to the new PDA. Install the backup program there and recover the files/data with that.
Just be careful of the different program versions, try not to copy system files across, and be prepared to do it a couple of times (or more) until you get it right.

Some people can't help themselves, I haven't seen this particular picture, so thank you. I'm happy with the progress if this holds true.
As far as I understand, this isn't a new feature and has nothing to do with the update itself. This is how Zune works, and that's what Zune software on your PC does with all devices.
How to change default Backup folder for WP7
Hi,
I updated my HTC HD7 with the latest update yesteday.
The major challanges I faced were,
1) By default Zune was searching for free space on "C:" drive. Typically I dont have much space on C drive.... I had to temporarilly remove some folders to keep going.
2) After the update was over, I realized the space is blocked permanentaly as update has stored the restore point in "Windows Phone Update" folder on the C drive.
can any one help in doing the following...
1) How to move the "Windows Phone Update" to another drive??
2) How to change the default drive to another drive like "D" or "F" so that next time I run the update programme, it takes the space from there.
Thanks.
Ram.
My Asus VivoTab RT 64GB is playing up and I cannot refresh or reinstall the OS as I get an Insert Media missing files error (see photo). Obviously Windows RT tablets don't come with external media with the OS.
I would be eternally grateful if someone could copy the recovery files to a usb (an option given in the OS) and then upload the file to either skydrive, drop box or other host for me to download. Once downloaded, the file can be deleted from the host. I think the file is between 3.5gigs and 4gigs. I could then re host it for anyone else who needs it.
Please, I have contributed a lot to the xda forum and would really appreciate some help.
FYI I had sent my tab to Asus for repair and it came back with the ability to not be able to refresh pc and I am furious. I don't want to send it off again and be without it again for another two weeks.
Thank you!

Sorry, I don't have the tablet, otherwise I'd be glad to help.
I have the x86 Windows 8, and it has the option to create recovery media (I used USB). I gather this is how one would create the files you need? It is probably a stupid idea, but have you tried creating a recovery media (assuming you can get to those menus)? The recovery data should be somewhere on the disk, so it might work.

I plugged in a usb to make a recovery usb but it only copies files to boot up and not all 3.5 gigs worth. The option to copy the recovery partition to usb is greyed out so I cant check it. When I use Disk Management, the recovery partition reports 4 gigs and is healthy so can't on earth figure out why I cant make a recovery usb. is there a way to show the recovery folder and manually copy the files? I uses security tab to get adminsterative rights to show the recovery folder in C:\ but the folder is empty.

My system said I needed an 8 Gb USB drive (but recommended 16 Gb). How big is your USB drive? It may be grayed out because there isn't enough room on the drive.

I also need the recovery file as mine cannot boot into Windows now. When I turn it on, it goes into automatic repair and later prompt that \windows\system32\winload.efi (Error code: 0x0000001) is missing or contains errors and will require recovery tools to repair it.
Thanks in advance.

Any problem with torrent up the files?
I'm also looking for the Asus vivotab recovery image. The Surface image does not load the wireless drivers for the Vivotab. Any help is greatly appreciated.
I thought you could just refresh it to factory settings with in the os?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Strictly speaking, the OP didn't mention trying Reset (only Refresh and "reinstall" which may or may not have been Reset) but if those didn't work, it's highly unlikely that Reset would. Please do at least read the first post before commenting!

It's doesn't have a file size limit and has 50gb of free storage for free accounts.
If you can upload it when ever you got time that would be really helpful. :good:

Hello everyone,
This is my first post, so excuse me if I have put it in the wrong subforum.
I switched from windows phone to android last week. While setting up my new phone, I found out that I can't move my whatsapp chat history from wp to android. After a bit of searching, I found out how to get full fs access to my windows phone. But I can't find the location of the whatsapp messages database, or the encryption key file. Does anyone know where I could find these?
thank you,
phoneShock

That's the whole point of my idea. I'm trying to manually copy the backup database to a backup made in Android. But these windows phone back-ups seem to be encrypted so I need the file containing the encryption key. That's file is somewhere to be found in the system files of Whatsapp. Furthermore, I've read somewhere that the databases in the system files are not encrypted. Which would make it significantely more easy to copy it's contents.
then use this tool to backup data from app http://forum.xda-developers.com/win...-apps-data-manager-windows-10-mobile-t3523048
if phone not interop unlocked, then copy from phone memory to SD. you can try Pocket File Manager http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3627872&d=1454167413, this file manager have access to WPsystem folder on SDcard
for example, i make backups for Viber with first tool without problem. for restore must move Viber to SDcard because 950XL cant enable MTP full system access...
