Some people can't help themselves, I haven't seen this particular picture, so thank you. I'm happy with the progress if this holds true.

As far as I understand, this isn't a new feature and has nothing to do with the update itself. This is how Zune works, and that's what Zune software on your PC does with all devices.

How to change default Backup folder for WP7
Hi,
I updated my HTC HD7 with the latest update yesteday.
The major challanges I faced were,
1) By default Zune was searching for free space on "C:" drive. Typically I dont have much space on C drive.... I had to temporarilly remove some folders to keep going.
2) After the update was over, I realized the space is blocked permanentaly as update has stored the restore point in "Windows Phone Update" folder on the C drive.
can any one help in doing the following...
1) How to move the "Windows Phone Update" to another drive??
2) How to change the default drive to another drive like "D" or "F" so that next time I run the update programme, it takes the space from there.
Thanks.
Ram.

How do you transfer details from symbian to andoid?

Seeing that there is a "How do you transfer details from winmo to andoid" thread, i guess i need to make this too, as i am using a samsung "smartphone" lol, using the symbian s60 3rd edn......
so how do i transfer details from symbian to android?
I don't know symbian... maybe you can use this too:
http://www.spritesoftware.com/Products/Migrate/Migrate-Your-Data-Now/How-To-Transfer
I do have symbian, also S60 3rd edition, nokia E75.
dont think there is an easy "free" way, ... pics, music, videos, move them from your phone to your PC, .... than from PC to your android SD Card.
the contacts, ... save to SIM and then move the SIM to Android and copy the contacts from the SIM. also you can transfer messages the same way (if you have a decent SIM card anyway )
I dont have critical birthday's, calenders, ... etc. so the contact names and numbers (+media) are enough for me, and thats way to do it

I found a thing called Sprite Migrate, pretty sure its free, but havent fully tried it yet!
3 step convoluted process, Winmo to PC to Android, with 3 separate programs.
I have done the first 2 steps and it seemed to work OK, backs up contact and texts and even call logs.
Will post again if step 3 works once T mobile send me my Desire tomorrow.

what if my desire is locked to t-mobile and my previous phone - symbian s60 3rd was on o2, will i still be able to transfer the contacts from my o2 card? or it wont even get accepted?
you can sync your contacts with ovi suite and then sync them into outlook where you can create a csv file to import your contacts into gmail. and then when you setup your gmail on your desire all your contacts will be copied!
I have come from a Nokia E71. Gladly, as the OS was really beginning to irritate me.
The way I can suggest is to sync you phone with Outlook, and then sync Outlook with Gmail (if you have one) and then down to your Android device.
Caveats:
1. Outlook to Gmail can often involve some pruning as some contacts don't get synced in the way you may want.
2. I'm assuming you have software that syncs to Outlook. I don't know what software you have so I don't know.
This method should be free, fairly automated, and not very painful.

Yes it will work, .. because this thing is 3 programs
1. SISX application (Symbian)
2. Desktop Application
3. APK application (Android)
you install the SISX in your Symbian, ... you use that application to back up contacts, SMSes, and bookmarks, it will create one file ".SMF"..
you transfer that ".SMF" file to your PC, .. and then you use your Desktop application to convert that ".SMF" file to another ".SMF" file that is compatible with android, than you transfer the resulted, converted .SMF file to android, ... than you use the APK application to extract the info from that .SMF and thats it
however the APK file i downloaded from their main site seems expired, cant complete the last step

I see, so the website doesnt give you that, I have to get it from android market, .. thanx for the heads up!
i have just tried this app and yes it does let you import the contacts, however it imports them as gmail contacts and somehow none of them has phone numbers and it is impossible to add one to any of the contacts
just tried to export them using nokia pc suit into a csv file then load it up onto gmail acc and then sync with the phone and again, it works but the numbers dont appear grrr
can anybody try if it also works like this for them, as i dont really wanna do another factory reset
/e ok just checked on another desire and it works fine there... :S grr
/e2 lol ok after restarting the phone it works now :O
cant get it to work, got error when converting it using the pc software after getting the smf file from my symbian....
it does create a new smf after converting but i cant use it on my android....
what did i do wrong?
There is another easier way to tranfer your contacts from symbian to android...
First of all you have to go to contacts on symbian and select mark → mark all...
Then you choose to send them via bluetooth...
It sends them one by one (...you 'll see it during the proccess)
When you have finished, go to your android device into your "bluetooth received" folder.....
Select one by one contact to save it on your android phone.........
I think it's an easy way to transfer your contacts if they are not many because you must save them one by one....
Well, the way I did it coming from a n95 (which has a microsd slot) was to select all contacts on the n95 in the phonebook > select "copy to memory card" > insert the card to your desire and in the people app choose menu > import from memory card. Voilà, all done!
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
I transferred my contacts to Google using syncML, but that was from a Nokia N97... not sure if the Samsung Symbians support syncML...

Hello

By the way, I've migrated from Windows mobile 6.5 to Android.
Migration successful !
Hi,
I've saved all the content (including contacts) on the SD card and then I've imported them on the new phone.

Noob frendly MANGO update

decided to make a tut on how to update to mango for the first timers out there that have no clue on how to do it! YOURE WELCOME!
this is a straight forward step by step tut
i take no responsibilities if u brick and take no credit for it
all credit do to all that make this happened
also do research before you do anything, i always do it before any upgrade or mod to any device being cellphone or any kind of electronics THE SEARCH BUTTON IS JUST LIKE GOOGLE IT WILL BE YOURE BEST FRIEND, and after a lot of searching then post youre questions so the comunity can help!
the back up is created at
C:\Users\YOURE USER NAME\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Phone Update
and it will be a folder with a large sequence of alfa numeric name
i advice to copy this to other location because when you upgrade or downgrade the zune software it delets this file
also in this tread is more indeepth on wp7 backup
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103011
if you cant see appdata folder try this:
1) Open Windows Explorer (Start\All Programs\ Accessories)
2) In Windows Explorer go to Computer\"driveletter"\users\"username"
3) With "username" highlighted, click "Organize" (top left of Windows Explorer window) and then select "Folder and Search Options"
4) Check the "Show All Folders" box in the General tab
5) Go to the "View" tab
6) Click the "Show hidden files, folders, and drives" radio button
if you already updated or downgraded zune software sorry but you will have to reflash youre wp7 with a stock or unbranded rom and start over, i did cause i wanted to have mango unlocked to load sideapps
to restore last state you have to download windows 7 backup tool 1.6 or 1.5,
1.5 was the only one that worked for me
to do the backup just open app click restore and make sure youre backup file is in
C:\Users\YOURE USER NAME\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Phone Update directory
you must have zune software prior version 4.8 for this to work with provision.exe so it will do a full backup, if you use zune 4.8 it wont do a full backup. YOU BEEN WARNED
1.download and unpack the files www.mediafire.com/?5zclb0ou8zdll
2.install file WPSupportTool-x86.msi for 32 bit or WPSupportTool-amd64.msi for 64 bit
3.run Provision.exe, it will make backup of youre phone and it will run all files to prepare youre phone for mango update
4.when it finishes close provision app and run StartZuneLocal.exe to install zune 4.8, after it finishes connect phone and follow instructions and all done welcome to MANGO!
if theres an error please post it so i can edit the post for future members
saludos a todos desde puerto rico!
Awesome! Giving this a try (fingers crossed).
Is there a difference between part 1 and part 2? I'm going with 1 first to see if there is any difference.
Success! Worked just as you said...good work!
good to know that all went good
Worked perfectly, everything so far seems to be working. Only thing I've found not to work is to do with my marketplace Orange selects. Have to search for my free apps this month. Also the HTC apps in marketplace throws up the same error. But good work made the process so much easier.
does this work for any windows phone?
I have a Dell Venue Pro

Im pretty sure you have to download both and then unzip one of them because the files are split into two zip folders
Worked perfectly on my HTC Mozart, and you do need to unzip both files, which should be done automatically if using WinZip.
Worked for me on a Samsung Focus.
I reistalled zune 4.7, I was at 4.8. Now it is not seeing my phone. any ideas
i've read that zune 4.7 doesn't work with mango, it has to be 4.8.
On-topic:
i've updated to mango with these files and its working like a charm, it feels my trophy is somehow more complete, it works faster, smoother, and it's all the little things that are so cool.
For example the people tile, with nodo it just displayed 9 pictures at the most in the tile, so they were all small pictures, now with mango it sometimes chooses random pics and makes them bigger so the pictures has the size of 4 small pictures.
the way the letters slide away in the people app and in the apps menu.
the icons in text messages, the somewhat different color of send and received messages.
these are the cosmetic changes i've noticed so far, but they are all pretty neat
Neat indeed!
Ie9 let's you see recent history (don't think it was there before Mango)
My phone now let me see Facebook events while on the locked screen (don't think it was there before either)
Is there still no way to upgrade to mango with windows xp?
I had to drop back down to 4.7 for the provision to backup and install the files it needed. I followed the directions from there and it work like a charm. Do they all say not for resale when you boot up?? I also wanted to know if its to buggy can I drop back to the nodo. Now I have to play with the custom ringtones. Thanks for making it so easy.
hey guys, I run the provision file and it worked fine but after it backed up my files it gave me the error code 80181103 and it says "The update folder can't be renamed"
I'm using samsung focus 7.0.7390.0
the only problem im having on my HD7 is that is dropping calls like flies and the problem is the proximity sensor just like the iphone 4 when it came out, have to research and see if anyone esle is having this problem, but everiting else is great!
after eating this sweet mango i dont want nodo anymore
also loving the virtual voicemail
Hey thank you for your guide!
I Want to update my unlocked optimus 7. Dies this method prevent my phone from relocking? And if i Want to get back to Bodo i only habe to restore with my Bodo Backup right?
Best regards
Desmo
So i can try this for on my Omnia 7?
Is there a way to unlock it now after I did the mango update. I would like to put ringtones but I can't seem to install touchexplorer.I really like the mango so far.Is there a way I can get it unlocked with tmobile??
Going to give this a bash over the weekend

[TOOL] - [UPDATED 12/2/2012] - Xbox Live Data Backup v0.02!

This app will allow you to backup some of your xbox live game data to your pc. Currently it only saves 3 xbox games, it can backup and recover. It uses ISETOOL.exe which comes with the microsoft windows phone sdk. I need more Product GUIDS and names of games if you want more added. This only backups up your high scores and saved progress in games.
Current Games Supported:
Angry Birds
Plants Vs. Zombies
Need for Speed: Undercover
Zune must be running and phone cant be pin locked.
THis is running on a HTC HD7 running a custom rom, intrinsic 5.02. Im not sure if this will work on a stock phone or not.
Running backup over an existing saved game will overwrite it wit and update. Enjoy and let me know if you guys want more games, or how it workS!
The basic idea is valid, but stock ROMs can't use it. The Mango version of TouchXperience (which is what WPDM uses to browse your phone) is low-privilege and can only see a limited part of the filesystem.
It does work. but yes, it'll only work on custom roms and with wpdm, because you need it to save the files to your PC and then restore them after the rom flash.
Sent from my HD7 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
Hi,
you should add "only for custom roms" to the title
it did not work with me ..
My phone is chevron unlocked
Even possible for not custom roms...
Hi Community,
I yesterday mentioned to open a thread today, desribing
how to backup your savegames, but you where a bit earlyier .
But I found out, how it works with every interop-unlocked
device (samsung and htc) and even with non custom-roms. You have
to download Windows phone Power Tools
http://wptools.codeplex.com/
which allows you to read and write apps isolated storage
(but only from sideloaded homebrew apps) and
wp root tools 0.8 by [email protected] Also you have to download or
sideload and homebrew app, for exapmple MPA Tool, (which is also an useful app ).
I you dont want this, you can choose any other homebrew application
on your phone and find out its installation path.
Now, if you have wp power tools and wp root tools "by heathcliff"
there are two steps to go:
1. (wp root tools)
you have to navigate to the path of the game (f.e. angry birds)
Applications/Data/E4571A02-0B87.../Data/Isolated Storage
and copy the two files (for other games it can be more than two)
in the isolated storage of your choosen homebrew app (e.g. MPA TOOL).
Applications/Data/7AC990A5-7092....../angry birds
(I created folders in this path to hold it clear...)
http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/191/screencapture11a.jpg/
2. windows phone power tools
When this is done connect your phone with zune and run wp power
tools. Under "file browser" you can open the isolated storage of MPA
Tool (or any other homebrew app) and copy the files from the
games to your computer.
http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/819/powertools.png/
After flasing a new ROM just revert the hole progress...

so its easier for you to find the path...
@Malte1234511: That's only going to work for Samsung gen1 phones. Non-Samsung or even Samsung gen2 phones can't use WP7 Root Tools.

folders displayed as unreadable files in Win10

Hi and thanks for reading my post!
All of a sudden (perhaps after trying out MyPhone Explorer) when I connected 5X to my Win10 x64 (usb debug ON, transfer files mode), Win saw three of my custom created folders (no unusual characters used for folder names) on Internal Shared Storage as files (see the attached screenshot)! Win could not copy them from phone to PC though. The three folders and their files were easily accessible within the phone and when copied to an OTG USB flash drive, they transfered to Win10 totally fine. When I renamed the three folders on the phone by adding a number at the end, Win displayed them properly as folders (previously it displayed the previous name as a file too though). Then I tried to rename the folders via Win to their proper names and they worked fine ever since. But I would still like to know what happened?
Any ideas, pls?
Best,
K

Hi,
thanks for your reply.
Unfortunately none of the computers I come in touch with have Windows 7 anymore, though I loved that OS.
I assume the issue at hand has something to do with the way Android handles file system and perhaps with incompatibilities between Windows and Android (e.g. "Abc " name (with the trailing space) is perfectly legal in Android as are coexisting files named e.g. "ABC" and "abc"), but that's just a speculation.

Standard MTP bug, just clear you 'Media Storage' app data and reboot. Wait for a while to let 'Media Scanner' service sometime to finish its job.
Then you're fine.

Could you expand on what you mean by "Media Storage app" -- that doesn't show up on my list of apps and searching the phone doesn't reveal anything either. Where do I find that?
I think what HebeGuess means is here (nougat):

this reveals on the list "media storage"
hope it helps. will try it myself during the weekend

Any way to access temporary update don't files?

I am unable to update to any new build ATM because my memory is full of failed updates. My Temporary files for build updates is over 2gb and nothing I have tried can clear them out. I don't want to go through the trouble if rolling back or hard resetting, I just want the garbage gone!
I can't recall offhand which directory it was, but after enabling Full FileSystem Access and connecting to PC, I was able to locate were all of the temporary updates are stored. There were hundreds of folders in there with number and letter strings for names, so nothing is easily identifiable. And of course it wouldn't let me delete anything either.
Does anyone have any idea how to identify and delete these failed updates?

I specifically stated i don't want to do that.. But I know, because this OS is full of holes that's probably the only solution.
Still though, there has to be away to delete the files. If we can replace in-use files like the notification icons on lock screen, we should be able to remove dead update files.

You need to enable Mass Storage with WP Internals.
I would love to know where they are stored, keep us updated

Delete all in this directory? This is needless files?
In the Downloads folder i believe, yes. However they can't simply be deleted, it does not allow it. I'm taking an educated guess that this is where the update files are stored, as it's a similar directly to where the PC stores Windows Updates.
ive managed to delete the temporary files and clear up every bit of space they took up. im going to post a guide for this, so check it out if you need help.
