Yo, I am looking for a rom for DZ that has:
- Friendstreamlike twitter/facebook notifications
- Radio app
- good battery life
- HTC clocklike clock
- Advanced power managing(like in MIUI).
Which rom should I choose or should I stick with sense?
I think Sense would be your best bet. (I don't even like Sense, hehe)
I don't know if cyanogen can do friendstream, but it can do twitter and FB notifications. I love MIUI, but a radio app isn't developed yet. Any ROM can have the HTC clock with the Beautiful Widgets app.
Give cyanogen RC4 a shot with beautiful widgets and lose the friendstream. Your phone will probably run a lot faster too =)
You don't have to lose the friend stream. If you're going to Cyanogen, you could always install LauncherPro. It has a nice Facebook widget that's pretty much identical to friend stream except it's just Facebook.
It also has ones for Twitter and Flickr as well, they're just not all combined. If you only really use one this would be a great option for you.
Hmm, decided to stick with the Sense ROM. Another question: should I use the gingebread senserom or virtuous?
They are both great. Try each for a couple of days and see which one you miss more when you switch, perhaps. It's what I do....all the time
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
sense is definitly best choice for you, i think you might like gingerbread sense a bit more. Nothing super different, but it's the little things.
If you've made your choice, let us know your findings.
Hmm, decided to stick with the GingerSense. Virtuous eats my battery, and I don't use the additional features... and gingersense is kinda better looking

It does seem to have a lot of bloat, but I could not say it slow the system down.
But the Sense Rom approx 240MB, where as CM7 Nightly is approx 80MB, IMO it a No Brainer.
Take Care
TheQuest
It isn’t a good question, because it is preference related. You should try both and decide by yourself.
Imo, sense has good things (like camera app, phone app, browser "windows", keyboad) but most part is pure bloatware. So i decided for cm and i'm not able to back sense again.
But of course, it's only my opinion. A LOT people would say i'm wrong...

try it for your self mate
ive been a sense user and a cyanogen user
but now im sticking to cyanogen
it really depends on your taste mate
Like the guys above said you should give each one a try before coming to a opinion
.I for one like the social aspect of sense but then DSP in CM is to die for .
Sense roms have better intergration with Facebook and the like. Not a problem for my self as I don't use social networks, but was for my missus. While sense roms are nice they do feel bloated compared to cm and they lack the configurations options of cm too.
Depends on what you want really, try both and see how you go. Nandroid and titanium backup are your friends.
For what it's worth, I always end up going back to a SENSE rom...

And i always end up back on no sense, CyanogenMod i like Mikes work, with his Revolution HD ROM/s, so check them out from time to time as well
Once you see how easy installing and backing up an installation is you will be a ROM addicts in no time
And then you can start playing with themes. there is some good work here done with that as well.
Used cm7 for a week or so. I kept going back to sense roms, bot for the social integration, but because to me, it simply looks much better, and the layout is nice, and the HTC apps are much better for me, than their aosp counterparts.
Gallery, camera, browser, keyboard, messaging, connected media, the themes themselves for me are better functioning, and better looking than the cm7 counterparts.
Sense widgets are nicely made also.
You should try them both and see which you like, it's all preference.

You have to give them a try!
I like changing ROM often: up to now I like and use a lot the Spike_M ROM that is a lighter version of cynogenmod, fast and smooth. It needs a few to be totally gingerbread.
Otherwise I use Android Revolution 3.2 that is a stock ROM but incredibly fast, stable and long lastng battery (maybe is the best all over). I've to say I like many Sense widget and do not totally dislike the beautifull integration with socials and messaging. HTC is born with touchflo and now with sense. For sure the stock rom gives a sense to the phone itself.
In a few word?
Try....
Ah a very nice question I wanted to ask myself... I started with the xperia x10 and am now with the HTC HD2 forum... there are so many roms available for my HD2
Okay comparing the two ... I would say the integration, look and overall feel of having a sense rom makes me actually like my phone...
Cons.... battery life could be better... I get about 9hrs daily with heavy usage on mornings and evenings before having to charge again
My experience with sense roms are good, but every now and again I get slowdowns. Does this happen with cyanogenMod?
CM is awesome and would be running it on my inspire if the stock htc music player worked on it lol. Sucks cause that's the only reason I just can't make the move lol I love the srs sound on my inspire . So like others have said it ends up coming down to what ya like.

i vote for cyanogenmod
ull only like a few appls on sense like the camera app, social network site integration and the HTC KEYBOARD with arrows other then that its all crap.
that's what CM lacks atm. stock camera is not that good and keyboard aint that good.
Camera app of sense + keyboard of sense +FB htc sense+ CM = perfection
CoreDroid is also woth try...
if u wan froyo go for Android Revolution HD 3.3
n if u want gingerbread try CoreDroid HD GB 2.3.3 V4.8
Having a lot of choice is a much better problem than having no choice
Anyways, I'm a big fan of SENSE. I love the way they have integrated all the social media. Especially for me, since I don't visit facebook often. So I love the fact that updates are pushed to me.
Anycase, if you are into a lot of social hubs, then Sense People app is worth its salt. I also like the level of polish Sense brings on top of android.
However, if you are a purist ( as many over here are ), go with cynogen.
However, I believe the Cynogen Mod's battery life is not as good as some of the "SENSE" based ROMS, like Leedroid or revo series (Correct me if I'm wrong!).

Hey guys,
So I'm getting a little impatient with waiting for Gingerbread on my DHD and was thinking of going to CM7 now that its Final. Previous Custom ROMS so far havn't really done it for me. I kinda like the reliablility and battery life etc of the stock build.
Has anyone tried CM7 on the DHD who could maybe give a little account of how it worked out (battery life etc)?
Thanks

Battery life is superb on CM7 and much better than the Gingerbread Sense ROMs. I take it you have tried the latest Desire S builds? I recommend RCMix if you haven't. If you are wanting the pure Google experience though, you have nothing to fear with CM7.
Regards.
Stock rom offers a better connection between all the social networks, better stock widgets and htc sense camera app. hmmm i did have CM7 for while and i loved it but its just the camera app that did it for me, i guess im just too used to HTC sense !
I had no problems with CM7 either. Very nice rom. Camera App is nice. Audio is great. Having or not having HTC Sense is a big decision maker. Once or if you get bored of Sense, then you will really enjoy a rom like CM7 for all its other differences. If it could have the Sense Weather animations and clock, Touch Input keyboard and HTC Reader 2.0 - it could be my ideal rom at this point.
Although I'm a relative noob with trying the many Android roms.

The clock, albeit not with the flip function, can be found all over the internet. Search for Fancy Widget (Sense Clock) to find it. If you can't and desperately need it, I will pm you the apk upon request, although will have to dig it out first. Keyboard? I'm confused as to exactly what you mean, but you can use the HTC keyboard on CM7 as well as numerous other replacements. HTC Reader??!! No way! Aldiko and Laputa both make HTC's attempt look poor. Not to mention Kindle.
Personally, the slight nuances of pure Android are what I find hard to resist. The transition animations, which were present on the Donut Sense UI but inexplicably left out since 2.1, are a big one. I know you can find ROMs which include the different animations or use Launcher Pro, but they never operate 100% and stutter/glitch at random moments. Even the way the keyboard bounces onto the screen rather than just "appearing" gives a more polished feel. The clean simple UI, which lacks the clutter and plethora of menu's that Sense incorporates is a dream to navigate, and the overall speed of the OS is unrivalled. I guess for the "average user", Sense is a comfortable, intuitive blanket which makes Android accessible for the masses. In the Windows Mobile days and arguably when Cupcake/Donut were still in use, it was a necessity. Since 2.1 however, I feel it is no longer needed as the Android UI has evolved to a point where it should appeal to anyone.
Regards.
EDIT: Just seen your website Grant! Forgive the app recommendations, I see you are already well versed in alternatives.
Thanks guys!!
Im still not sure! I wasn't the interface i was worried about! I've given the customs a whirl and its been more the reliability and performance that have brought me back to the stock ROM. I've downloaded the CM7 zip! might give it a chance over the weekend before the week starts over! Ill always have my back-up for when HTC decide to give us an official release of 2.3.3.
Maybe ill never go back once i try CM7!
cheers
if your a gameloft gamer, i suggest sticking with a sense 2.2 rom. if your a audiophile, cm7.
So using it now! Love the look and feel except I find that its a big sticky when swiping between homescreens. Any suggestions?

Try a different launcher. Launcher Pro is one of the smoothest.
Regards.
The Regina 3D Launcher is one I've only just heard of - thanks to Pocketnow.com.
For anyone who hasn't tried CyanogenMod 7 - there are some screenshots here.
I've only tried 3 Roms so far on Android. It would be nice to have an ongoing poll based on member's records or vote or something to see which ones are the most popular.

One thing I found missing is the ability to hide certain albums within the gallery. A nice feature when you've lots of crap on you SD card! Also having the GPS issue that seems pretty widespread.
Other than that, battery life = more awesome than Stock!
Currently on InsertCoin Data++ and while it's beautiful and smooth, the battery life is quite poor (I've found...). Looking for a ROM with a far better battery life.
It needs to be sense really. I basically love the dialer/sms/mail apps. I've tried a couple of AOSP ROMS with reputedly great battery life (namely Oxygen and Redux) but I just don't like the feel of them beyond the home screen. I suppose I wouldn't mind a "stripped sense" ROM as that would keep the apps I like, would it not?
Any pointers would be appreciated.
Cheers
Not quite the answer you are after but you could always use a stripped ROM and LauncherPro which has some sense-like widgets.
The Go Contacts/SMS/Weather/Dialer etc seem like decent replacements too.
I gave up on Sense a long time ago.
I wouldn't mind that, I'd just need the actual apps too. Are they present on stripped sense roms?
Sent from my HTC Desire
Well I use GingerVillain which is Gingerbread.
LauncherPro
Go SMS
Go Contacts
Go Dialer
Go Weather
Beautiful Widgets
..... all available on the market
you will have to purchase the full version of LauncherPro (a couple of quid) for the widgets but its well worth it.
I'll take a look at those apps now then...thanks
OK after a few minutes of fiddling about with those, they're definitely worthy replacements thanks for that.
Dyou know of any good gallery/mail*/calendar apps too?
*I currently have both ExchangeActiveSync and Gmail accounts, both in the native "Mail" app
LauncherPro has a great Calendar widget built in.
GMAIL i use the standar google app to be honest
Gallery wise I use the gallery app built into GingerVillain which i think is called 3D Gallery.
Id also recommend
BattStatt
Make Your Clock Widget
Thanks...I've just flashed Oxygen so we'll see how it goes
Is it possible to get the Sense Keyboard dyou know?

no probs. Have fun Flashing
Basically I'd like to be persuaded as to whether to use a sense rom (e.g ARHD) or a nosense rom (e.g CM7). And if I use CM7 can I install the HTC dialer and messaging app?
--
Previously I was using ARHD (sense) and go launcher, and I've just updated to the new ARHD with sense 3. As much as I like it, it's not quite as minimalist as I liked with go launcher and my battery life is not as good (sense is a battery hod, no denying).
I'm tempted to go the other way; CM7 with no sense features. What are the advantages of this? Why do some people prefer no sense?
Can I install the sense APKs of the apps I like? The htc dialer is great, as is the messaging/
I can't answer all your questions however I recently went from RCMix3d 1.4 runny to CM7 and I'm loving the change. The battery life is excellent and it makes me wonder why I was using sense in the first place.
I don't even miss it that much, apart from the odd thing. I'll take longer battery life over flashy show off animations any day

No, the HTC apps won't run without the Sense framework.
Beyond that, I'm not going to persuade you with way; the only way to decide is to backup, flash cm7 and see which one you prefer.

I suggest giving MIUI a try. It is basedd om CM7,has great features and is very easy to customise!
Definately take a look at MIUI as well Its an AOSP rom like CM7 but with some very nice additions. If you like to try out different themes and lots of personalization options MIUI is definately the way to go.
But in the end both ways (sense or no sense) have their advantages. What i dont like about sense is that its so bloated up with stuff you rarely ever use. You can cleane some of it with scripts like rom cleaner but still we're talking 350mb rom (sense) vs 80-90mb rom (CM7 or MIUI).
On the other hand with sense you get one good looking theme and good to very good apps for all the features of your phone. On CM7 you might need to find another app to play music via DLNA for example and another app for weather and so on.
sense and see how you feel if you dont like then go for no sense .....simple really
im with sense atm and feel that it is good
you could try the better of both worlds by flashing DeDense from this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1207645
Try Helios 0913 for a CM7 rom if you're gonna try one. It'll make you not wanna go back. These forums are crowded with sense roms that look exactly the same and offer nothing different, except some visual stuff, than the other 20 or so sense roms that are here. A good AOSP rom is hard to find on HTC phones now. Like I said though, try Helios or better yet, Hydrogenmod and you'll forget all about sense.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
I love Helios too but, more broadly, I went the way of CM7-based ROMs in general + Lord Clockan's amazing kernels and never looked back.
I never enjoyed such a snappy and responsive device when I was on Sense-based ROMs. Ditto battery life. I'm a massive CyanogenMod fanboy now, and will be flashing Nightlies (which are in a very good condition ATM) until Richfish updates Helios.
People on Sense ROMs have good things to report too, though, so my suggestion (which you've probably already heard a million times) is to try stuff out for yourself.
No one will be able to tell you what you would prefer. Test out a CM rom and a sense rom. Make your own mind up.

Hi i am a new owner of wilfire buzz.
i want a stable phone! So what do you longtime buzz users think
what is better CM7 or sense
i use/love cm7 it has some cliches from time to time but its the best imo, f you want custom rom use cm7 or some 2.2 sense roms or just root the stock one flash oc kernel and you are done
You are going to get a totally split opinion here (Many love CM, but, some hate the dialer app, the messages app, and its looks, and so on and so forth). Honestly, just use both, and stick with the one that suits YOU.
Depends what you like, cm7 is way way way way more customizible IMO, and also not full of junk i never use so I'm definitely on the cm7 side of the fence, I'm not knocking sense for all you sense lovers out there it is good at what it does and if you use all the things in it its perfect. its just I like to decide what is on my phone and how it looks
But I agree with 3xeno test em all, it took me 3 months to decide to stick with cm7.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using xda premium
I agree wit u both 3xeno and Scratch... test all the ROMs and decide yourself...
For me CM7 is best wen cam to performance and customization, but lacks all the UI stuff that a sense ROM gives... the intelli dialer, camera, sense feel...so on...
Cm7? The thing i love in it is its versatility and capabilities. And ofcourse if you are a dev, you should use it, but sense is eyecandy, ofcourse i use some elements from sense rom, like gallery and camera in my cm7, and uninstalled some default app from cm7 and replaced some with market app, ( like slow adw launcher with launcher pro) and trying to inter breed cm7 and sense.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
There is no good or bad... CM7 uses adw launcher. So download it and test if you like it more than sense.
My Wildfire have sense.
I just like it more than adw. (dont ask me why!)
Agree with Scratch0805 It depends on what you like really, me personally i enjoy CM7 more cause of the speed, higher OS, more things i can customize on...
I got my wildfire last october but i finally decided to flash it just last week
I'm still on 2.2 mainly to test my applications against it, but what I'd miss with CM7 is that when the phone rings I can just flip it over and it'll STFU. That's really helpful when I'm at work. Also, when it rings and I pull it out of my pocket it lowers the volume a bit. But it also has useless junk like Footprints and Friend Stream.
