I have tried everything to root my DHD...followed all instructions, downloaded everything and this thing will not root....im so lost and frustrated...pls someone help....none of these steps are working and i am currently on the Telus Network in Canada....Thank you
Did you create a gold card? I picked up a DHD last week and I had to create a goldcard to get it rooted. .
Tried. Several times...just would not work. Not sure where I'm going wrong.

Are you using VISIONary+ to root your device? If yes, what is your build number? you have to be below 1.72xxxx in order to allow the rooting process to be successful.
To check your build number go to Setting >> About Phone >> Software Information
You know, we need a little bit more information than "it does not work" to give you a proper solution.

I followed all instructions to create a gold card. Get an error when nipping file that it is not valid. When following instructions to gain temp root get an error that web is out of date. If I continue despite the error I get the # as the instructions state I should. I input the code provided load bootloader and get error failed on my hand held. My only option at that point is to click my power button to continue.

Your only problem is the goldcard. As far as I understand, you also did misc_version. Now you just have to make a working goldcard, and go to the bootloader again with PD98IMG.zip in your SD. Follow the goldcard instructions carefully.

Im no expert at rooting or anything,(i haven't even rooted), but it could be cause you have a telstra model desire. Theres a rom with froyo+sense that works on the A8183 on whirlpool forums, so have a look there

The problem is I cant even get to the process of flashing another rom. I am trying to get root access to perform this step. I have already debranded it and got root access once before with the 0.75 boot loader. Now I cant with the 0.8 boot loader following the instructions to the letter...
I have an unbranded and unlocked Desire ( singapore import ), and still needed a Gold Card.
But i have heard of many people on forums saying that they had to try multiple brands of uSD card before they had a Gold Card that worked.
I used the rooting guide in the very first sticky post in this sub-forum using the live CD method, and it failed at the same point as you, but making a gold card fixed the problem.
My desire also has the .80 bootlader, but use the method provided by theunlockr.com and your home free
Have you tried unrEVOked 3?

Download THIS and follow the rooting instructions to root a phone on HBOOT 0.80 - the files are different to 0.75 (a quick read of the MCR root guide would've pointed this out)
Ok it's all good now. I had all the right programs etc but a third download of those tools from the alternate link seemed to work. The step 1 thing went twice as long the with the newly downloaded r6 tools.
I now have a recovery image and a 2.2 rom installed . Thanks for the unrevoked3 suggestion guys .

Lol. Because I was not awear of it. I just google'd debranding htc desire and all the manual stuff comes up so that's where I started..
i rooted my desire about 5-6 days ago i am running on the .80 bootloader and the 1.15 rom thru HTC, but now the issue im running into, and maybe someone can guide me on this is..... I can not get into recovery or flash a custom recovery image! should i just re-flash to stock, unroot, and go thru the Unrevoked3 process to get everything working... I want to be able to load custom roms either directly thru downloading them from the web and saving them to my sdcard or thru rom manager and i cant....
If I go into fastboot mode and then bootloader then recovery it pops up the HTC logo for 2-3sec then goes right back into fastboot mode.
Hi first post
I've been rooting my desire today using the forum guide and may have run into a problem. I thought I better ask questions before I make matters worse.
I ran into a problem when I couldn't get the r5-desire-root-alt zip file to download, so I googled htc desire root in hope of finding it elsewhere, which I thought I did. I had in fact found r6-desire-root-alt and set about using the guide on this forum with the above file.
I've ran into a problem when I get to "In the command prompt/terminal window, enter either 'step2-windows.bat', './step2-mac.sh' or './step2-linux.sh' as appropriate." as the step 2 bat file doesn't exist in r6.
I've since been able to download the r5 file and I'm hoping that I can use the step2 bat from that but think it would be wise to ask people a bit more savvy when it comes to doing this.
The guide I found with the r6 file is on modaco. My other option is to follow the latter stages of that guide but I haven't copied the update zip to my sd card, which is now in my desire and in recovery mode. I didn't want to disconnect, turn off and do this in case I made matters worse.
All help & advice appreciated.
If it helps at all my software is version 1.19.161.5 (Vodafone UK) and the bootloader is 0.80.0000
Can you boot into your normal ROM or have you kept it in recovery???
If you can you should use the one click root method by Unrevoked you can use this to root your HTC desire on one click

I've left my phone as is in recovery mode. I didn't want to do anything that might cause problems.
Hello everyone,
I've the following problem:
(see attached file)
This happens after he's checking the PB99IMG.zip file.
I've the following stuff on my SD card (it's a Goldcard and my device isn't branded):
(see attached file)
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks for all answers or possible solutions.
(sorry for my English, I'm from the Netherlands)
Greets,
Edzio
It would help if you also specify what are you trying to do
Well I'm trying to ROOT my HTC Desire. And for that I need HBOOT 0.80 or lower. I have HBOOT 0.92 so I searched what I have to do to get a HBOOT 0.80. And from what I have understood I had to downgrade my device. So I followed the tutorial to do that, but it doesn't work because I says that the update failures and that the main version older is.
So what am I doing wrong?
I followed this tutorial:
mikesouthby.co.uk/2010/08/htc-desire-downgrading-hboot-and-installing-custom-froyo-rom/
And I got stuck at this step:
Press the Volume Up key to begin the downgrade process. Once the downgrade has started wait until all of the steps have completed, your Desire will automatically reboot during this process. It’s important that you do not interrupt the power or turn your phone off whilst the downgrade is talking place
But instead that the downgrade process starts it stops and says:
The main version is older! Update fails!
That is what I am trying to do.
there is a new method now (using unrevoked tool). As far as i know HBOOT version does not matter and its just 1-click and your rooted.
IF the unrEVOked 3.21 method doesn't work for some reason, follow this guide to downgrade (it works for everyone, if it doesn't for you you're doing something wrong)...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=768256
As Eddyos says if you follow the instructions on the link he posted you can't go wrong! I went from Froyo with hboot 93 back to 2.1 using this very method, I then installed a pre rooted Froyo using clockwork recovery to flash it.....If I can do it......;0-)

Check it. Use the gingerbreak method. It works.
http://driphter.com/index.php?topic=3867.0
I had accidentally tried 2.37 via the pd98img and everything was locked up, so I wanted to get back to 2.36 but the RUU no longer would work. Im suprised my steps & toolkit still worked considering people are saying that the last version of gingerbreak didnt work. Well it still did for me (and a few other users) and NO goldcard was needed.
It doesn't work for me
At step 1. Download and Run this RUU to downgrade your device (plug in, run it, and let it do its magic): I got a failure (-> picture).
In Englisch: failure 140: Bootloader-Version-Failure
The ROM Update Utility Programm can't update the Android-Phone.
You need the right one and try again.
But which one is right? I tried more than ten ...
Again: I have (telekom)-branded Gingerbrad 2.37.111.6. No root an S-ON
help me please
thanks
greez Fabi
which RUU are you using are you using?
try skipping the RUU part of it, and just start at step 2 with the gingerbreak method.
Are you saying that Gingerbreak method in your post works on an S-ON 2.37 phones?
I wasn't able to make gingerbreak work either. My phone also lagged and FC with most widgets, won't connect to the mobile and wireless network. I thought I broke something by having radio s-off. But fortunately after Factory reset and wipe cache. everything went smoothly. Trouble is I have to setup my DHD again. ontly thing I was able to successfully restore was the contacts. using the built-in export tool.

I tried the SAME .exe from another page...
So start at step 2 with gingerbreak: (in Charge mode?!)
At step 4 my phone doesn't install Gingerbreak from PC - so I copied the apk to my device, run it but nothing happens. It sags only: Rooting...; Running exploit...; This may take a few minutes! Device will reboot on success.
Now I'm waiting more than a half an hour! What's wrong?
FAbi
So why not upgrade? I mean does anyone know how to create FOTA updates? Coz maybe we can trick the phone to update to 1.32 but maybe change the numbers to 2.38 or something like that.

Hey,
I've been trying to root my HTC Desire, which led me to Unrevoked (instructions from rootmydroid.co.uk).
I've installed and uninstalled HTC Sync, enabled USB Debugging, allowed Unknown Sources, etc.
Using both the latest version of Unrevoked 3.32 and older 3.21 - the software reports "Internal error: Couldn't find misc".
I was then told to use a custom recovery image, which I downloaded and used with Unrevoked (both versions), where it all went well until it stopped at the recovery image screen and appeared to be doing nothing. After reboot, still no root.
Hopefully you guys can help me out.
Chris
installed the hboot drivers from unrevoked?
actually - do a search on the forum - I am 99% sure someone had the 'misc' error before and there's a fix for it...
Just spent an hour researching and as I went to post it I got a white screen, losing my post. Stupid phone, I'll use the app in future.
Basically, I couple posts say that downgrading the HBOOT worked for them. A couple others recommend following the manual DIY guide, though being new to this I'd probably avoid that.
I should probably point out I have an Orange branded Desire. One post said that previously these phones needed to pay for a 'gold card' to get rooted, but wasn't sure if this was still the case.
So, just wanted to ask afresh on advise for steps to take to do this.
Gold card probably needed then as branded

I implemented the gold card successfully. Using Unrevoked3, it goes well until "running root...", "this was a triumph", "Internal error: failed to unlock NAND flash?". (The older Unrevoked 2.2 still returns the misc error).
I have installed Unrevoked's HBOOT drivers & restarted PC, installed and uninstalled HTC Sync... to no avail.
Any help appreciated.

Could you point out which ROM it is I need to have HTC Gingerbread unbranded please? I want to upgrade to 2.3, while also removing Orange's crapware to save space.
P.S. Why is there two categories for Desire and Bravo on shipped-roms.com? Aren't they the same thing?

I followed the guide, but I'm getting "adb not recognized as an internal or external command" repeatedly. Do I need the Android SDK installed or something (it doesn't say that).
I reaplied to you an android forums. But matDroid is correct. And yes you need adb set up. See the adb faq in my Sig. It gives you the minimum effort method to achieve this
Thanks, I got adb working after isntalling Android SDK quite some time ago, just haven't updated this thread since.
As I mentioned on Android Forums, the downgrade didn't go well (similar to this photo).
I then tried installing a couple RUU's, which I'm told were the wrong ones, leaving me with the HTC logo and 4 /!\
Installing a stock RUU has brought it back to life.
I'll continue trying to root soon.
