Can you de-brand or root after Voda Bloatware Update?

HI all,
I'm new here.
I've been caught up with the VF screw up!!
I've heard its not possible to de-brand or root after the VF update, is this true? if it can, please point me in the right direction

New to this the rooting / flashing business and in exactly the same boat as Mr Maz.
I would like to get froyo on to my voda desire after its received the voda 360 add ons!!!

Rooting is possible. I acheived it using unrevoked but flashing roms and just about anything else seems to be impossible!

Wrong. All you have to do is to get rid of the Bootloader. I used the "old" r6-... root method and had a rooted 1.15 after that. Then I wanted to use the 1.21 RUU... I use Win7 x64 and always get the error 170 on the first try, so I have to start the RUUs twice. The first starts, shows me that I have 1.15 and went to the grey htc logo. It then gets the timeout while "Waiting for Bootloader" (error 170) and breaks. The second launch of the RUU is detecting the device and tries to update. But suddenly it showed that I have the 1.24 VF version! And the RUU stated that I cannot "downgrade".
End of the Story was I did the HBOOT 0.75 downgrade with my already installed rooted 1.15. After that the RUU always said I have the 1.15 and updated the 1.21 fine. Now I have a 1.21 stock rom on my former VF branded Desire and the internal updater says that my phone is up to date... but that is another story.
I assume that using the PB99IMG.zip method for downgrading the 0.92 HBOOT of the FroYo update to 0.80 would have helped in this case too... (speculation).

Could you post a step by step guide to do this as I have been caught with VK OTA udate to 1.24 but have never 'rooted' anything. Can you confirm ut works when the 1.24 software is installed.

Sounds promising, just need a guide on how to do it please!

Another Voda UK user here.
I previously rooted my Magic by following the guides here but can't seem to get my head round the Desire rooting.
I have HBOOT 0.83 with the latest Vodafone 1.24 software version.
I have downloaded the latest unrevoked and have been close to running it a coupe of times. Was going to flash the AmonRA recovery as that's what I was used to on the Magic.
On the magic it was just a case of running the update zip on the SD from recovery to flsah a new ROM.
Am I missing something with the desire??

First I did this guide:

After that I applied a 1.21 stock RUU.
But I assume using the downgrade HBOOT 0.92 to 0.80 guide in the dev section here is doing all this in one step. Could anyone try this? It requires a goldcard with this P99IMG.zip on it and the recovery via vol down+power.

We know that all this is possible on version 0.80 but I am and i thought Mr_maz are on bootloader version 0.83. On which recovery doesnt work. It is not possible to flash any image via recovery. Selecting recovery just reboots the handset to the white htc splash screen, not to the black screen with the red triangle. I have spent days trying various guides off the web and none work. And it has been accepted most that those of us on version 0.83 have to wait for someone to crack it!

Has anyone got a solution to this yet?
or know when the voda update is due?

VF update should be 7-10 days from their original press release (so prpbably a week from now)
Lesson learnt today - get a SIM-free handset from a 3rd party when upgrading!!

[Q] Downgraded to 2.1 but cannot root...

Hi guys,
I recently got my unbranded and unlocked desire, and as soon as i turned it on and connected to my wifi, the system found an upgrade (to 2.2) which i allowed it to install...
I then realised that this was not very wise if you want to root the phone, so i downgraded back to 2.1., with the 0.80 HBOOT.
I then tried to follow the instructions in the relevant thread to root the phone but when i go into step 1, it gives me the message "remote 43 main version check fail" and i think the update.zip does not get transferred properly.
I go through the rest of the instructions and on step 2, when the update.zip is being verified, it fails the verification and the process ends there...
I have tried with 2 different SD cards and it is the same for both.
Can anybody suggest a solution?

You need to use unrevoked3 to root, the old method won't work on your phone.

I just re-upgraded in order to repeat the whole process.
Should i just use your downgrade tool and the unrevoked3 to root?
Is there a newbie-proof tutorial for unrevoked3?

You didn't need to upgrade again, but yeah - my tool will downgrade you and then you can root with unrevoked3. It's easy, just enable USB debugging and plug your phone in!

[Q] How root phone version 1.25.841.5

I just got a htc Desire and want to root it...
my phone is rom version 1.25.841.5 though and all of the rooting instructions appear to be for 1.21.xxx.x or 1.15.xxx.x
and the hboot versionis 0.83.0001 - all documentation is for 0.92 or 0.80
Has anyone had the same versions as me, and rooted their phone successfully?
.. if so could you please provide some instructions?

Sounds like a Telstra rom then read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=709146 It works as I've used this method on mine with the very same rom. You can also look at http://www.t-mod.org/ if you are going to use it on the Telstra network.

hrm... i already did that ... followed step by step ... it put the "Superuser" app in the menu but when i load into the recovery i don't have the "Flash ZIP from SDCard" option - i read about this ppl say that it prob didn't root properly?
any ideas?

I stupidly updated my Bell Desire Z to 1.84.666.2 the other day. Looking for a way to downgrade to a version that can be rooted.

How far through that guide did you get, what error message? I did 1.84 -> 1.34 to get S-OFF & root.

Following the tutorial got me temp root access but was unable to boot the firmware. I suppose I need to make a goldcard but that tutorial has a few broken links. Anyone want to give me a resource that explains what is going on in that tutorial a little more deeply? I remember reading in a previous forum that 1.8 update could be rolled back.

You will need a goldcard if you don't already have SuperCID via gfree, and you can't find an earlier ROM/RUU that matches your CID.

I'm getting stuck at step 11. I get to the white bootloader screen and without doing anything the phone does and SD check, looks for PC10DIAG.zip, etc, then finds PC10IMG.zip and checks it. Then I get bumped out to the bootloader list of FASTBOOT, RECOVERY, FACTORY RESET, SIMLOCK and IMAGE CRC.
It's unclear what to do from there. The tutorial says I'll get a prompt to update and restart, but I don't.
Also, the tutorial says I'll need a goldcard (which I created) but no where in the tutorial does it say what to do with it...
I got a goldcard using Gold Card Tool. Just do a google search of "easy goldcard".

I've managed to iron out that issue. I had made a mistake when making the goldcard.
Problem now is that when I get to step 11 the phone says "Model ID incorrect!" then "Update Fail!".
Any ideas?

Where are you getting your PC10IMG from?

I downloaded the full RUU and renamed the extracted rom.zip.

I had goldcard issues (broken links) so I got the rom that matched my current region. I then did the temp root, modded the version info and let the phone try the update. Once I got it all sorted it worked as is said in the guide. I don't know if the goldcard tool worked or not, I think not as I wanted to change the Asian phone to WWE but had to go down to Asian 1.34 then go S-OFF and then go WWE. Maybe an extra step but it worked.

How do I find a rom that matches my current region?
The desire z was purchased from Bell Mobility in Canada and is now being used on Rogers.

Thanks for that link! I basically did as the guy said and used the link to the 1.34.666.1 rom you linked in that thread. Only difference was I uploaded it to the SD and the issued the command adb reboot bootloader. This time no errors and the update worked!
So now I guess I just go ahead with a normal root of a 1.34.666.1 DZ?
Weird thing is the guy in that other thread said he got S-Off from doing this update... On my phone it's still S-On.

All you have done is put a rom on the phone that allows S-OFF, I can't see anyway you could get it in a stock rom?!

So after downgrading I had S-ON. But I just finished the rest of the rooting process in the guide I linked in my original post and got root!
What a process. That must have taken 12 hours or more. I should really post a new guide with more complete info.

Now that I have root and S-Off downgrading from 1.84.666.2 to 1.34.666.1 using the processes DVDWSN did. Now I thought I could go back to 1.84.666.2 using OTA like I upgraded the first time. But when I try to do OTA, I get the message I do not have any new version. What gives?

If you are trying to downgrade do not touch OTA updates lol. Anyways, what you want to do is temp root your phone so you can 'spoof' the radio version the an old one thereby allowing you to flash a radio that can be manipulated. If you aren't sure what to do then try following this guide.

Hello.
I am trying to install a custom rom on a DHD that has been updated with the latest HTC OTA update.
As I understand,first step should be to downgrade using this guide :

I followed it, and managed to get through every step (Root, and I get the message "your card is now gold".)
And then what ? I am told to reboot on bootloader. The phone takes a very long time reading the img. And the nothing happens.
What should I do now ? My hboot is still 2.00.xxxx,so I guess nothing happened.
I still have my goldcard,how am I supposed to use it before using visionary ?
Edit : and now that AAHK is gone, it would be really great to update this guide for us noobs that will be trying other methods.
