I just got a htc Desire and want to root it...
my phone is rom version 1.25.841.5 though and all of the rooting instructions appear to be for 1.21.xxx.x or 1.15.xxx.x
and the hboot versionis 0.83.0001 - all documentation is for 0.92 or 0.80
Has anyone had the same versions as me, and rooted their phone successfully?
.. if so could you please provide some instructions?
Thanks in advance
Kris
Sounds like a Telstra rom then read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=709146 It works as I've used this method on mine with the very same rom. You can also look at http://www.t-mod.org/ if you are going to use it on the Telstra network.
hrm... i already did that ... followed step by step ... it put the "Superuser" app in the menu but when i load into the recovery i don't have the "Flash ZIP from SDCard" option - i read about this ppl say that it prob didn't root properly?
any ideas?
Thanks
Kris

Hey
im trying to install another ROM on my device for the first time.
If I understand the tutorial something is to do before:
- downgrade
- goldcard
- root
- new ROM
- yay!
but its hard to downgrade my desire!
who can help me ?
I've tried to update/install PB99IMG.ZIP, but it says "wrong CID". What happens ?!
You need a goldcard, but that method wouldn't work for you anyway.
See here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=768256
Why do you post if your howto wouldnt work for me ?
Now I have a goldcard!
The method I posted will work.
Hi,
But i still cant downgrade coz my system software is higher.. 2.13.707.1.. any idea?
Have you tried to do it yet?
Yes.. i did tried.. but it since to be error..
Hello everyone,
I've the following problem:
(see attached file)
This happens after he's checking the PB99IMG.zip file.
I've the following stuff on my SD card (it's a Goldcard and my device isn't branded):
(see attached file)
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks for all answers or possible solutions.
(sorry for my English, I'm from the Netherlands)
Greets,
Edzio
It would help if you also specify what are you trying to do
Well I'm trying to ROOT my HTC Desire. And for that I need HBOOT 0.80 or lower. I have HBOOT 0.92 so I searched what I have to do to get a HBOOT 0.80. And from what I have understood I had to downgrade my device. So I followed the tutorial to do that, but it doesn't work because I says that the update failures and that the main version older is.
So what am I doing wrong?
I followed this tutorial:
mikesouthby.co.uk/2010/08/htc-desire-downgrading-hboot-and-installing-custom-froyo-rom/
And I got stuck at this step:
Press the Volume Up key to begin the downgrade process. Once the downgrade has started wait until all of the steps have completed, your Desire will automatically reboot during this process. It’s important that you do not interrupt the power or turn your phone off whilst the downgrade is talking place
But instead that the downgrade process starts it stops and says:
The main version is older! Update fails!
That is what I am trying to do.
there is a new method now (using unrevoked tool). As far as i know HBOOT version does not matter and its just 1-click and your rooted.
IF the unrEVOked 3.21 method doesn't work for some reason, follow this guide to downgrade (it works for everyone, if it doesn't for you you're doing something wrong)...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=768256
As Eddyos says if you follow the instructions on the link he posted you can't go wrong! I went from Froyo with hboot 93 back to 2.1 using this very method, I then installed a pre rooted Froyo using clockwork recovery to flash it.....If I can do it......;0-)
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Hi there, I need help doing this as ive tried everything... Ive got to the point where i go into hboot to load the image in the ZIP but it keeps saying wrong image / cant find image ect.... Ive created 2 gold cards and no cid issues i believe.... my build is 1.84.661.1 c1325797
ker " 2.6.32.21-gb291666 htc-kernel and18-2 #1
Android 2.2.1
base 12.35d.60.140fu_26.06.03.24_m2
Please help as im on day 3!!!
Matt
you know with that build, you can use gingerbreak v1.2 to perm root. you dont really have to downgrade.... then you can use the tools to radio & eng s-off
also, if you are trying to downgrade, where and or what are you putting onto your goldcard? If there's a PD98IMG.zip in the ROOT sd directory, the bootloader will try loading it up. just saying
According to:
[TOOL][VIDEO] One click Radio S-OFF, SimUnlock (Easy Root & S-OFF Guide)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=857537
you need to downgrade if you are on 1.72.405.3 or higher build, or new radio (12.28b.60.140e_26.03.02.26_M is ok). Downgrade first!!
I read this gb method is a little more rishy and "AGAIN, THIS DOES NOT WORK ON S-ON DEVICES" . are you sure it will work on a telus Canadian version?
also, i am putting PD98IMG.zip on the sd's root directory and hboot is just not finding it...
anyone???

the fre3vo script may not work, if it doesnt, message me and i'll send you a link to an earlier version of the toolkit with gingerbreak in it
I Used JSLEnterprises suggestion around a month ago, I was on the same build as you & it did work, it actually did everything for you.... follow the instructions carefully & if your on telus... to make the audio better & fix the tinny sound, Search for the (cm7-inspire-audiofix-r1.zip) and flash after installing whichever rom u choose.
hi experts,
i need some help. i want to root the desire hd of my brother and i don't know where to start. i successfully root-s-off-customrom my htc desire and now i want to do the same on my brother's dhd.
i have tried the visionary+ tool but after ticking read/write permission and tap temp root, i'm just stacked with plain black screen (with clock and notification is active).
question is, do i need to downgrade first before making this root process?

Build Number
2.50.707.4 CL91002 release-keys

U can use any of these guides - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=877295
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=896597
Or
*BE VERY CAREFUL WITH THIS PROCESS YOU CAN BRICK YOUR PHONE WITH A CORRUPT RADIO.IMG*
To flash a radio using hboot with radio S-OFF you can simply take the zip file PD98IMG.zip from the hack kit (IN THE RADIO FOLDER) (Thanks ATTN1) and remove the radio.img file from it using winrar or 7zip, and put a new radio.img from elsewhere in the zip named radio.img and using store (NO) compression or Normal compression. Make sure it is named exactly PD98IMG.zip and put it on the root of your sdcard. Reboot your phone into hboot and the new radio will prompt you to load. Press volume up on the phone and it will load automatically and ask you to press power to reboot.
Again, flashing radios is a risky business, do it very carefully. Make sure MD5 checksum matches.
I'd recommend following the linked guides
And do not post multiple threads regarding the same topic.
Hi all,
i am new to this forums and i have read all the guide to root and install custom rom in DHD and after reading all the guides i would like to flash a custom rom on my DHD, but i am a bit confused need few clarification.

I am failry new to rooting and flashing (currently on Leedroid) - I just followed the instructions in the Advanced Hack Tool and it was done within 10 mins. It is all automatic as long as you read the instructions and set everything up porperly.
I've you use this site and follow the steps it will downgrade and root your phone, it is the easyst why.
www.xda-developers.com/android/how-to-root-the-htc-desire-hd/

thanx
Ive you follow the steps the program will automaticly downgrad men
reply
Yeah as the other users said dude,downgrade..use the ace hack kit etc,it doesnt take long and follow it to the letter, wipe your sd card totally not quick format..
serious..to the letter.takes an average of 10-15 minutes, if you dont understand a majority of it,just ask questions along the way,it truly is the easiest way,i cant comment on the htcdev unlock bootloader method, hopefully someone who has used that can help you with it,but id say go down the ace hack way
fairly sure the htcdev way has someone limitations to it..think if you want it perm rooted you have to still do it yourself,as i said though not done it.
(possibility im wrong but if anyone cares to correct me,happy days)
i tried AAHK and my phone downgraded successfully but after i run AAHK again it flashed the radio but when i goes to another step my phone powering on with black screen dont knw wht to do?
