Calendar alarms? - Desire General

When I set an event in Google Calendar and add an alarm to ring 10 minutes before it starts, my Nokia will ring, but my Desire will keep silent even though the event is synchronized into its calendar.
Is there any way to make Desire ring on alarmed Google Calendar events?

a quick google has come up with someone much cleverer than me who has created an app that looks to be what you are after ....
here is his blog
http://blog.invalidobject.com/android-app-calendar-event-reminder
apparently its available on the market

Do I really have to pay for such basic functionality?

No you don't. It is standard. Just look at the settings in the stock calendar app.

Wau Calendar Event Reminder is great app. Thanks

It's a good app ... but the alarming is built in and should be on by default .... have you played with the settings? I believe you have set up the google account ... do you see the event in your calendar phone (first trouble shooting)?

Android / HTC Calendar

Hi,
How does the Android / HTC Calendar works?
I meant, does it always use Google Calendar?
That's OK, but does it has "birthday" and "anniversary" kind of reminder?
If yes, does it remind you at 00:00 (past midnight) like Windows Mobile?
I hate that on Windows Mobile, why would I want to be reminded of birthday at midnight .... Option like "Remind birthday/anniversary at [XX:YY] the day after" would be better.
I don't know if it always use Google Calendar but about the automatic birthday reminder, there is no notification at all. You'll just see it as an event in the day.
To see birthdays and other contact events, you have to add the corresponding calendar in your google calendar settings.
I hope reminder will be a coming feature cause it's not so difficult as it already exist for other kind of event...
If you forget your better half's birthday or god forbid an anniversary the phone reminding you the next day will be the least of your worries lol!
Bummer, this is quite strange that "reminder" is not there in Android calendar.
Because I think this should be one of "smartphone" core / main feature.

Reminders are there! But google calendar doesn't notify contact's birthday automatically!
If you want, you can register a reminder manually
Log into your Google Calendar, set up an event that re-occurs annually, and set the reminder options. Your device's Android Calendar will automatically sync with your Google Calendar and you will receive reminders in your device's notification bar/window of events along with whatever notification sound you selected.
Also don't forget that Google intend android to be developed in the wild, while most manufacturers are developing they tend to stick with the stuff that is going to sell. Unfortunately that means things like active wallpaper and sence UI. Search the market, loads of good calendar apps!
This sounds interesting. I have Google Calendar Sync automatically sync with my Outlook calendar every couple of hours. So if I understand this right, HTC Calendar will then automatically sync with Google Calendar and there pick up any changes I have made in Outlook on my PC. So I won't have to sync manually between Outlook and my Desire.
Have I understood that right? Sorry, I am new to Android and looking forward to getting my Desire next week.
Thanks Your explanation is very good.
I am trying to avoid Microsoft Office because if I use Google service, I don't have to sync via "cable" to my PC.
With Google Calendar, I can edit the calendar wherever and sync it via internet (3G/Wi-Fi) ... nice!
Now, only if the HTC Calendar has a nice looks and presentation (day view, week view, month view ... LIST VIEW).

The calendar does all that, and yes it does do notifications at whatever time you specify.

Yes that's right. The same would happen if you were to get outlook to sync to google contacts.
To add Birthdays from Google contacts to your Google Calendar.
1. Using a computer go to calendar.google.com
2. Top Right corner, click on settings/calendar settings.
3. Under Calendar settings click Calendars
4. By Other Calendars, click Browse Interesting Calendars
5. Under Interesting Calendars, select More
6. Subscribe to the Contacts' Birthdays and Events calendar.
7. Return to Calendar, your Contacts' Birthdays should now be appearing.
8. On your phone open the calendar app and go to menu/more/refresh
9. Go to menu/more/calendars and make sure the new CBE calendar is checked.
10. Back to Calendar. The birthdays should now be showing.
11. If they do not appear, try menu/refresh.
12. If they still do not appear go to menu/more/calendars/remove and remove the CBE calendar then menu/more/calendars/add and readd the CBE calendar (this is what I had to do).

Try "Calendar Pad", it's in the market and free:
http://www.appbrain.com/app/jp.ne.gate.calpad
Note that it has one little problem on Android 2.1 (editing an all-day event would move it to the next day) but this was probably an Android bug because with 2.2 this no longer happens

Calendar Reminders

The HTC calendar has added reminders for all my calender events, but I don't want them. I've removed all reminders from my google calendar and synced but they are still there, and in the calender settings on the desire the default reminder time cannot be set to "none".
The only way I can see to remove all reminders is one by one editing each event. Is there a quicker way to do this?

You could try in calendar, clicking menu, then more, then calendars, and selecting which calendars you want displayed. But I dont know if it only works with the htc calendar.

[bug] Calendar reminders working ok? [kinda fixed]

I set the reminder to either notifincation bar or alarm and neither one actually works.
Any ideas on how to fix this?
EDIT:
See post #6 for the fixings.
Same problem here. This is killing me as I use this function constantly. I am not getting notified on gmail calendar or exchange calendar.

Setting up calendar events actually works. I just tested it - a popup does occur in desktop calendar when I set it through the phone.
But absolutely nothing happens on the phone itself.
Is it like that for you too?
Yep, same thing here.
Does anyone know of any widget style calendar app which can force notification/alert for upcoming calendar events independently from the built-in android version (which obviously doesn't work on this phone)?
I started using the free Calendar Snooze from the market on my Evo, mainly because the Evo didn't have (or I couldn't find) a built in snooze, and it works well on the E4GT too. It's very configurable, gives a full screen notification, and will even use text to voice, if you want it to.

Thanks, I am trying it now.
Calendar Snooze works just like I want.
Perfect.
I just asked in IRC, and people said their alerts were working just fine.
I wonder if it's a common app me and gfsnic have...
Right now, I can only think of one calendar related app I have installed - Simple Calendar Widget...
Works fine for me. But the alerts I use were set up within the calendar app on the phone. Are you guys setting the alerts on the web?

Q how to use a different calendar when tapping on notifications

Hi,
I have installed me another calendar app (aCalendar). When i get notifications in the topbar my phone uses the build in calendar. How can i avoid this and use aCalender?
Thanks
Ateshga
You mean you're getting both default calendar and aCalendar notifications at the same time?
Go into the default Calendar app and select the account it's synced too and uncheck the sync box. Then it'll stop notifying you because it won't be synced to new events.
You need to clear defaults for the gmail app. then you can select which app to do the action you want next time you click it.

Doesnt work here.
Is my calender app perhaps the problem? It uses the build in calendar so it might not handle the notifications...
Am i correct? Dont i have to use another app? Which one do you use?
Thanks in advance
@martonikaj no i just get the googlecalendar notification. Sorry overread your question in first place...
Bye
Hi
It doesnt work till today. I tried several calendars now (jorte, quick and lately business calendar) The problem remains The Same: when i pull down Thema notification bar where The event notification pops up and select the event The phone jumps in the Google calendar.
Is this an ICS problem?
What am i doing wrong?
Please help.
Thx
Ateshga
Whichever app is providing the notification will open when you click. You need to set up notification with your desired app and disable notification in the unwanted app - of course, having said that, I'm not sure those options are available, so it may just be easier to freeze the undesired app instead...
Hi i now found my failure: i got what i paid for. Free apps mostly dont support notifications.
I now bought an app (business calendar) and all is fine now.
Seems i have to learn a bit more about the android world.
Thx for the help i got ...
A.
I started using Business Calendar. I removed notifications for the default calendar, but I forgot to remove sync. The notification bar would never clear, now I think I know why. Thanks martonikaj.

[Q] Default calendar for new events

Hey all,
Is there a way to set the default calendar for new events you create on your phone using the default HTC calendar app?
Back on the ICS when I created a new event I selected the right calendar while creating the event (on the top-left) and after creating one event it would remember which calendar I used and use that as the default one for new events.
Now on JB that doesn't seem to work anymore, so now I keep having to select the right calendar, which I often forget.
Also is there a way to change the color of a calendar? Now it just randomly assigns a color to all the events from a single calendar, but I would like to set it myself.
Thanks in advance.
Hey there.
I'm experiencing the same issue as I'm using the google calendar, but new events get created in the pcsync-calendar every time.
Did you find a solution yet?
[@ colors: If you're using google calendar, you can set the colors over the web at https://www.google.com/calendar ]
Greetings!

The same issue. With every new entry in calendar I always have to change the calendar from default PCSync calendar to gmail.com calendar (PCSync does not sync to google account) even if the PCSync calendar is not selected in visible calendars.
I did not find any solution yet.
Vilem
The default Google Calendar app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.calendar) remembers last calendar used.
But it's not a solution if you want to use stock HTC calendar.
