PRI 1.77 - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just unrooted my wife's evo so I
can take it to sprint. When it was rooted I flashed PRI1.77 . Well now that I'm unrooted it still says 1.77. Is there a way to update date that without the phone being rooted?

Well, you can try doing a system update, and that should update it, if not, you can:
1. Re-root, flash 1.90, unroot
2. Just say she never updated the phone.

Question

So i uninstalled CM6, and installed the stock 1.47. RUU I do not have root access now because i want to install the stock 2.2 Froyo. Is it okay that i still have AR as my recovery installed for my recovery? Also, if i was to nandroid to restore CM6 would it go back to being rooted?

If you flash the 2.2 that just came out, you're in no mans land since you'll be flashing a unrooted froyo.
In other words, you will lose root which also means that you not be able to nandroid back..

Having AR as your recovery image should be "okay" although it may get overwritten by the update, or at least locked out by a new HBOOT. If that happens, you wouldn't be able to access your nandroid backup anyway.
So, broken record time: Don't update if you don't want to lose root. Wait for a rooted ROM or a proven root method to be released.
I don't mind that. I'll wait for a root. Will it get rid of AR recovery as well. I installed stock Rom as said. Just want to make sure the recovery and everything else will be gone.

If you flash the RUU then it will bring "everything" back to stock.

[Q] Which OTA updates can I still do with a custom ROM?

Which updates can I still run?
Firmware
Profile

Correct. Firmware and software updates will kill your root and your rom.

Yeah for the updates just flash the .zips associated with what you want, for otas usually your Rom dev has it same day if sometimes early, he will update your Rom for you and you will keep root

(Q) Auto root?

So I just got done running this Auto Root method on my new Evo, and all went well. But it says it flashes the Sprint Lovers ROM, and when it flashed it, it also flashed my radio. Before my PRL had 60679, now it has changed to 60662? Is this supposed to happen? And can I update my PRL now that I'm on this Sprint Lovers ROM?

Would this work?

I recently lost my Wimax keys and I was thinking if I flashed back to a froyo Rom and went in and took the ota update to break root and turn it in saying that since the update my 4g hasn't been working and demand a replacement phone with 2.2 on because I hated 2.3 and it was glitchy. Any input on if that would work?

Lol it actually seems like a good plan bro but don't they have a way to find out if you've rooted ur phone. Try it but make sure to unroot completely and in bootloader make sure to flash it to s-off.

To unroot, you simply, download and flash the unrevoked s-on zip in recovery, you'll be s-on and can't flash, ect, so do that first, then flash a 3.70 RUU [PC36IMG to make it easy]. Though I think the sprint rep will tell you they can't control what firmware is on the evo, so you could get stuck with a 2.3.

Rooting the EVO 4G on 2.3.4

This is more than likely a noob question but I just received a notice for the 2.3.4 OTA update. I was wondering if I went through with it is it possible to still do the revolutionary root method?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Yes, you can still use revolutionary root.
Thanks. Should I just perform the OTA update and the reroot or should I unroot the phone prior to the update

Why reroot? If you want the stock rooted update, just flash that specific rom. Brad has the stock rooted update rom, just look for it in the development section. It should be on the first page
