I recently lost my Wimax keys and I was thinking if I flashed back to a froyo Rom and went in and took the ota update to break root and turn it in saying that since the update my 4g hasn't been working and demand a replacement phone with 2.2 on because I hated 2.3 and it was glitchy. Any input on if that would work?

Lol it actually seems like a good plan bro but don't they have a way to find out if you've rooted ur phone. Try it but make sure to unroot completely and in bootloader make sure to flash it to s-off.

I would post links but can't since I'm on ma phone.

Or should I just do the 2step unroot then accept the ota ?

To unroot, you simply, download and flash the unrevoked s-on zip in recovery, you'll be s-on and can't flash, ect, so do that first, then flash a 3.70 RUU [PC36IMG to make it easy]. Though I think the sprint rep will tell you they can't control what firmware is on the evo, so you could get stuck with a 2.3.

So i uninstalled CM6, and installed the stock 1.47. RUU I do not have root access now because i want to install the stock 2.2 Froyo. Is it okay that i still have AR as my recovery installed for my recovery? Also, if i was to nandroid to restore CM6 would it go back to being rooted?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
If you flash the 2.2 that just came out, you're in no mans land since you'll be flashing a unrooted froyo.
In other words, you will lose root which also means that you not be able to nandroid back..
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Having AR as your recovery image should be "okay" although it may get overwritten by the update, or at least locked out by a new HBOOT. If that happens, you wouldn't be able to access your nandroid backup anyway.
So, broken record time: Don't update if you don't want to lose root. Wait for a rooted ROM or a proven root method to be released.
I don't mind that. I'll wait for a root. Will it get rid of AR recovery as well. I installed stock Rom as said. Just want to make sure the recovery and everything else will be gone.

Thanks guys. Sorry for double post.

If you flash the RUU then it will bring "everything" back to stock.

History say yes you will lost it. so just wait it out.
root is already out for this, check the dev forum its right at the top
Hey guys hope someone can help me out here. I have been flashing different roms to try them out and am currently running cm7. I have always kept a nandroid backup of my stock sense rom in case anything went wrong or if I had to take the phone back to sprint. However I have somehow managed to erase my back up and want to know where to go to download a stock evo rom. Apologies if this is a stupid question but I'm still in the process of learning.

if you mean stock as in right out of the box from sprint then check out this:

Thx for that, what about a method where I wont loose root access? Is that possible?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
idk. i used that and then rooted again to start over. it says it wipes ur sd card but it doesn't wipe like wallpapers n zips u put on it.
Check out the sprint lovers rom in the dev section. Im mobile so I can't link it.

Right on for this hint. Do you know if I will be able to receive ota updates from sprint with this rom, like when gingerbread is updated to evo.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
You will not get OTA updates, but can reasonably expect rooted 2.3 Sense ROMs here on XDA within a couple hours of the official release. If you do get an OTA update notification in Sprint Lovers it will get rid off root if you upgrade. The phone will still be S-off so it should be easy to go back.
This is as close to stock as you can get while maintaining root privileges. This is a rooted stock rom that has NOT been deodexed.

Thx, I ended up using this method to start fresh. Any one referencing this thread should know this works like a charm, just follow the steps. Easy.

Update your hboot.
Unless you are already on a current version...
So when it asks me to update, that's not an ota update but a hboot update?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I don't see a reason to updating hboot. Never changed it once and I flashed everything fine. I know the droid incredible needed an updated hboot but I believe this does not apply for the evo.

I would think that is an OTA update. If you really, really wanna update ur h-boot go to:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715485
Knew it didn't sound right..but really, won't let me flash synergy rom and the directory is empty? How is that possible?

I'd wager that if you flash everything fine you aren't on one of the original hboot versions.
Mine was unlisted in Caulkin's master thread, and I had to update before some of the newer roms would flash. YMMV but I was just trying to help.
I have followed the rooting method 2 times now and I keep having the same problem. My phones lock screen comes on about every 15 seconds and stays on for about 10 seconds. This completely kills the battery in about 3 hours with no use of the phone at all. I've rooted and in-rooted twice now. No problems at all when I'm stock. I don't do anything to the kernel, either. I just use what the ROM comes with. I've tried CWM7 and two Sense ROM'S. Any help or advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

hmmmm very odd. did you do full wipes when installing new roms? i've had quite a few rooted phones and have never seen this issue personally. maybe your power button is schitzing out.
Sent from my Incredible 2 3D using XDA Premium App
Both times that I've rooted, this happens. It doesn't do this unrooted, though. I used the guide on YouTube linked from droidforum.net and I got the links for the zips from there, too.
Sent from my ADR6350 using XDA App
I did full wipes both times from the recovery menu.
Sent from my ADR6350 using XDA App
very odd I'm stumped. did you root with revolutionary?
Sent from my Incredible 2 3D using XDA Premium App
that's the method i used. the first time i did it was on 2.3.3 and the second time was on 2.2.1. i was hoping that that would make some kind of difference, but it didn't.
tell you what. try rerooting then after revolutionary kicks you into recovery just flash a custom ROM instead of the root zip. the custom ROM will be rooted anyway. wipe fist of course just to be safe
Sent from my Incredible 2 3D using XDA Premium App
this is the walk through that i used and the links.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tnlnWW8tsvo&feature=mfu_in_order&list=UL
do you think it could have anything to do with the links? maybe they're not current?
so to be clear. flash back to stock unrooted gingerbread. then run revolutionary and let it install a recovery. make sure a custom ROM is on your sd. wipe then flash ROM zip. don't install the root zip. don't know if that will do it just brainstorming
Sent from my Incredible 2 3D using XDA Premium App
that's how I rooted. no sense flashing the root zip if your just gonna flash a custom rooted ROM anyway

what do you mean my "root zip"?
i run Revolutionary, then install CWM and SU. i even had this problem when i was only rooted, no custom ROM's, kernals, or root apps installed.
that's what I mean don't install su. skip that and just flash a custom ROM. cuz the ROM you flash will be rooted anyway. i've had trouble with an su zip on another phone
Sent from my Incredible 2 3D using XDA Premium App
ok, got it. should i just skip that step or would i just finish the process there. sorry, i don't remember if that's the last step.
by not installing SU, does that change anything? will everything still work?
no every thing will still work its how I got my phone romd and rooted. ok you want to go to stock 2.3.3 not 2.2.1. if u can't find the ruu for the gb stock let me know. then run revolutionary and let it install a recovery. boot into recovery and wipe everything then install a custom ROM of your choice. if you flash to gb stock from hboot make sure you delete it from your sd before running revolutionary or you won't be able to enter recovery without adb
Sent from my Incredible 2 3D using XDA Premium App
ok, i think i got it. i'll let my phone upgrade to 2.3.3 and then start. should i put the .zip for the ROM i want on my SD before i start so that i can install it in recovery?
yes. if you have cwm recovery DO NOT TAKE AN OTA UPDATE USE AN RUU
Sent from my Incredible 2 3D using XDA Premium App
I am currently uprooted. I'm on 2.2.1. Are you saying don't take the OTA update?
Sent from my ADR6350 using XDA App
if your not rooted and have the stock recovery installed its ok
Sent from my Incredible 2 3D using XDA Premium App
Ok, ill go from here. Thanks for your help. I appreciate it.
Sent from my ADR6350 using XDA App
yep I hope that helps. if not I would think maybe hardware issue
Sent from my Incredible 2 3D using XDA Premium App
This is more than likely a noob question but I just received a notice for the 2.3.4 OTA update. I was wondering if I went through with it is it possible to still do the revolutionary root method?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Yes, you can still use revolutionary root.
Thanks. Should I just perform the OTA update and the reroot or should I unroot the phone prior to the update

Why reroot? If you want the stock rooted update, just flash that specific rom. Brad has the stock rooted update rom, just look for it in the development section. It should be on the first page
