I like MIUI alot. It's a really cool rom. However, I had some laggy problems and crashing when I use set cpu. Whenever i start moving the sliders above 1ghz it crashes the phone. And when i didnt touch it at all the side to side swiping of the screens was very laggy and crashed on its own. I just want responsive slides working dsp manager and excellent battery life.
This has been the most common complaint for Gingerbread MIUI. Download VM Heap Tool from the Market, and change the heap size to 48m. This has worked for everybody who has commented so far. No more lagginess or crashing.
the set cpu app keeps crashing MIUI even after downloading that app. also i have a constant voicemail notification at the top i cant get rid of and it annoys me

I'm running the latest version of energy rom and I find the phone to be painfully slow on wake up. Sometimes it'll wake up and be fine, others it'll practically freeze for ~10 seconds before becoming usable. Rotation can also be a problem, I was using gyrator-2 but I thought it may have been slowing the phone down. I removed it but it's still a bit sluggish changing from portrait to landscape and back. Also total commander seems to take a good ~10 seconds to start initially, though works fine as long as I don't close it again.
Compared to my roommates phone (HTC Desire) this thing is a pig, his phone is almost instantaneous doing anything but mine takes significantly longer to open and use. Quite annoying when I want to quickly grab someones number, or write a note down but I have to stand there waiting and waiting
I've tried overclocking it to 730mhz which helps but still not by a significant margin
Any suggestions? I've tried running android on it and that is actually faster than winmo, though my bluetooth doesn't work so it's out
You really cannot compare to desire as desire comes with 1ghz processor and android. WinMo is always slow.
I found that the the stock sense without cookie is more responsive than with cookie home tab. So that's what i am runnign now. In addition, it seems to has less of problem of slowing down after awhile of use.
if you really need a faster phone, I guess go with stock titanium would be an option but then you will loose all of the sense features.

First of all, pick a ROM that isn't THAT resource heavy as your current one. You couldn't go more wrong if you're up for speed.
If you still need more speed I suggest that you try a Sense 2.1 ROM.
not entirely sure what i've done but I managed to speed it up quite a bit by just fiddling with some settings. Which make absolutely no sense because it's things like turning animations to 'full' rather than 'off'
Also using the smaller clock, no flip animation, removing both side tabs and just leaving the main one, changing the default wallpaper, changing some sound settings and other minor things which shouldn't actually make any difference but do
As a benchmark @ stock speed, it's now waking up instantly 90% of the time,
lockscreen to sense takes 0.8 seconds
moving from portrait to landscape is 1.5 seconds
opera mini takes 1.0 seconds
Internet explorer w/ flash 9 to fully usable 5.0 seconds
going from anything back to sense 1-2 seconds
taking a phone call, once I answer it takes ~2.0 seconds to allow me to hit the speakerphone button (only part I wish was faster)
Could I still expect a significant improvement with a different ROM?
I quite like the layout I have now with a smaller clock, appointments and 3 rows of quicklinks and no side tabs. If I can keep a similiar layout and have it going faster and a bit more stable (have had to remove battery a few times, annoying) then i'll go with that
If so could I please ask for a recommendation? as i'm still new to this phone, as well as a program that will backup all my current contacts, messages, photos and appointments
edit: and while i'm at is, is there any way to remove the sliding section at the bottom that contains home, mail, contacts, internet, settings etc? I never use it and it's just taking up space
I have found that my One X often kills apps I have running when I press the power button and put it away for more than a few minutes. I know Android will try to reclaim resources starting with background apps but this is killing the app I am currently looking at.
I have almost nothing else running and my system normally has 200-300 mb of available memory so it is a very unexpected behaviour. A typical example is I have something like firefox displaying a page. I read a bit then press off. I come back 10 minutes later and it needs to restart and reload the page. With previous phones the app would still be in the foreground the next time I turn it on and unless I navigate away it would stay that way.
I have a nexus s running ICS and that does not happen.
I have a desire running GB and is doesn't hapen.
I have a desire running Froyo and it does not happen.
Is there any way to force a less aggressive memory management on HOX?
There is an option for this, in settings > developer options, furthest down under apps section, first one; "Don't keep activities" check if it is enabled.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
.. also beneath it, there is a restriction "Background process limit", it may also cause immediate kills if "no background process" is set
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
Thanks for the suggestions but those were set normally.
Tried using the built in browser instead of firefox and the problem was significantly reduced. It seems the system has a bias against non google apps. Even so - this HOX is behaving different in this respect to my other phones. It is my expectation as a user that if I am doing one thing, that thing should still be there the next time I look at my phone.
Something on the device may be leaking and the result is this need to stop stuff. My money is on sense ( mainly because of the observed ripple/flicker on the home screen ).
I've noticed same with my new one x it seems over eager killing all apps even sense launcher.
settings are correct but using chrome I don't dear open anything else for fear of it closing chrome and having to log back into everything, sometimes its as bad as just answering call or replying to a text message and its been killed
just as annoying it even kills launcher if I press home after using an app for more than a few minutes I get the please wait spinner while it has to load launcher
had ICS on desire HD and on zoom tab... this is not how it should work can't believe a phone with more memory and designed to run ICS is having to kill everything when DHD runs perfect
annoying little thing that is so far ruining what is otherwise an amazing phone
Seeing the same issue on my One S.
This happens with Dark Meadow. If the screen times out, or you hit the lock button, the game kind of "crashes". Not sure if this is the One X killing it or whether it's how the app is coded.
It's irritating anyway ><
Applications with a notification icon have not this behavior. Is there a possibility to set a higher priority to applications without root?
I'm having the same problem.
With cm9 @ Desire Z, I could, say, restore my 3000 sms within GoSMS (which takes a while) and meanwhile do whatever I wanted with the phone, eg. browsing, texting and so on.
With the H1X, after a certain time, the apps gets killed/suspended and therefore anything that happened within the app - which is pretty annoying. Any solution in sight?
H1X @ ARHD
I get this too. Annoying.

Sense launcher closing is not cos of the over-aggressive app killing. It's cos the system needs more RAM, so closes Sense since it's not directly in use right now. I do notice that some apps are getting closed after a period of inactivity, probably a default ICS setting that we can tweak when kernels and ROMs get more mature releases
I'm suffering from this defect as well. It's frankly astonishing that this phone behaves in this way. Really makes you wonder if anyone actually uses the phones before releasing such junk. What use is such fantastic hardware if it performs so badly in real use conditions. Every time I press home, loading. Try to run some javascript Web pages then go send a text, then back to browser and all tabs have to refresh. Mine is going back if it doesn't get fixed pretty quickly as it's practically unusable in this state. Battery is unsatisfactory as well. 2 hours on battery, screen on for an hour, 57% left?! What are they thinking seriously

If your battery is that bad you have a bad app running rampant or your battery is faulty.
For everyone else, even in settings if "Don't keep activities" is unchecked, try checking it and unchecking it. I read that sometimes it is still set to "Don't keep activities" even if it is unchecked and checking and unchecking it could solve the problem if this is the case. Doesn't hurt to try.
Hopefully one of the devs will make a Rom/kernel with better oom adjustments... I'm hoping.
the multitask implementation on this phone is terrible. I was using runkeeper, stopped to check something in my settings during the ride, phone closed the runkeeper application deleting my ride. It is getting annoying ...
I have the Sprint Gnex. It has been laggy with every ROM I have installed. Lag can happen throughout the day to a couple times a week. It is fine for a week or two when new. I went from stock to teambaked black to stock ota 4.2.1(whatever the latest Sprint OTA is) to commotio B57 4.3 then did the update to B59 9-19? Bluetooth using GooManager. Except for the last update I always did a complete erase when loading a new ROM and the only data I carried over was from SMSBackup and Restore App.
Sometimes when loading the camera the camera buttons will be at the top left for several seconds and the screen black when in portrait mode . Restarting multiple times, airplane mode on/off, and overclocking dont change anything. Every button press will take several seconds to load, I never get a low ram warning. Only several apps are used mainly daily.
Am I doing something wrong? How do I stop the lag?
Weird. I have had mine lag from time to time, but a reboot freshens it up and so does Advanced Task Killer. I find things running snappy and quick when I have around 100-200 MB free of RAM. When I get down to ~30 or so MB free, things slow to a crawl like you described. I wonder if you have a bunch of apps running in the background...anything atypical there? (if you go to Settings | Apps | swipe over to Running). How much free RAM do you currently have while having those symptoms?
Also I have found the Facebook app is always running even though I have all abilities for it to sync turned off. I'm so close to uninstalling it and using the browser.
I had lag phone too (Sprint Gnex). I put 10.2CM on it and it runs lag free.

Everytime that I have looked at the Apps folder before there has been 80-100MB free. There are no cached processes but last night I watched it for a couple minutes and it dropped to 30MB. I noticed about 50% of the apps showed restarting all at once. There are 16 Apps running with 8 being system processes. Facebook takes up the most at 40MB. On a fresh restart it dropped as low as 100MB as various apps loaded then exited and it is now hovering at 152MB. 10 mins later with only disabling notifications for RetailMeNot and Google Offers and disabling the Apex Launcher it is down to 77MB with 36MB in cashed processes.
I might try a stable CM like user readable mentioned.
What's the deal? While I really like my new phone it seems that they didn't get all the bugs out. It lags on the camera, it lags with various built in processes and worst of all it lags on the app switcher. Has anyone noticed this. I've had to turn off my phone and restart it because its Soooooooooooooo bad.
Hi, i dont remember there being much lag before updating yet now, opening apps or even trying to swipe between the pull down menu pages (battery, cinema mode & settings) for example sometimes takes a couple of seconds.
I've reset the watch to factory settings and uninstalled the app on my phone and reinstalled.
It feels like i need to reduce the animation times like i would in the phones developer settings.
Any suggestions?
I haven't seen anyone else on XDA or reddit with lag issues. If you can sideload a CPU profiler or otherwise monitor processor load, I would recommend making sure an app or system process isn't hogging all the CPU cycles. If there is no issue and the lag is still there, the only option might be to contact Sony support.
I could not use the watch lagged too much, restarted the watch and it seems better.
