The iphone 4 has the same processor as the Samsung Epic, Why can't it run netflix? It is DRM Enabled, why won't netflix let it work?
Netflix depends on the proprietary DRM implemented by Qualcomm in the Snapdragon devices for its Android service. You see no such issue on iOS, because DRM is the foundation that iOS is built on, and there's only one platform. No variation.
Netflix works perfectly on my wife lessor Optimus S but it crashes when I click Sign in on my Epic
Netflix works perfectly on my Samsung Epic.
You have to use it with one of the Gingerbread Rom. The gingerbread rom fixes something which makes the netflix software more compatible with with the hummingbird processor. The Froyo version of android does not have this fix. Also the gingerbread drm is more compatible too. If you really want netflix just flash one of the gingerbread roms I would personally recommend the anonymous rom for starters.
Because of the video and audio limitations of Android 2.2. It will be working on the Epic when we get the Gingerbread upgrade or you can install the GB leak roms. If you read the Netflix article you will see that they say it was released for a limited amount of Android phones and will be released for more as soon as they can.

Surprised they got it on Froyo Epics, but they did. May need to reboot to get the Market update which will actually work, though, after your first install may kick you out soon as you sign in.

Okay so I am new to the pro coming from an incredible...and well when i first got the incredible there really wasnt anything as far as rooting and roms go..but the pro has been out since november..it has root..however it doesnt seem like a lot of people are interested in porting roms and making customs ones for it..i mean is fission the only thing being worked on? no miui or cynagen?
That seems to be the case. I am actually researching how to cook Roms to see if I could do it since no one else seems to be.
Sent from my DROID PRO using XDA App
yeah im thinking about learning to do it too...its just finding time with school/work
I also came from the Incredible. The development for that device was amazing within a few months. However, for the Pro, it's really a sad state of affairs--no ROM to speak of. There is a Fission ROM RC1, but it's definitely not a daily driver and there's been nothing since that first release.
I LOVE the physical keyboard of the Pro, but I miss the fun of the Incredible. I'm sure I'll soon sell my Pro for the upcoming Incredible 2 or thunderbolt. I'll never buy a Motorola Android device again.
Yeah. It's kind of too bad. I have a Droid Pro and a Droid 2 (was given the Droid Pro), and recently switched to the Droid Pro as my everyday device. I love the keyboard and form factor, but would prefer to be able to run something closer to AOSP stock (have the most recent build of Fission on the D2).
I'm guessing that there just aren't enough Droid Pros out there for anyone to be interested in developing ROMs. Too bad, because it's a great phone, although I can see people not being interested in a "high-end" phone with an HVGA display.
Maybe the next version of MotoBlur will be better than the current one (although I've been happier with the stock software on the Droid Pro than I was with the Motoblur on the Droid 2 when it came out).
I mean for me its not so much as the UI...i actually dont mind moto blur at all and aside from missing the favorites widget for contacts and the default clock..i like it a lot better than sense...but the thing that i want is custom kernels and what not for speed/battery management and the other extra things
where are the chefs............?????????????
its pity, great phone with great hardware but dump software, we need chefs here..... where are you??????
please dont let droid pro to go down the drain, please......
we need a stable and fast AOSP ROM .......if possible......donating not a problem
please guys.....
Yeah I am really hoping for a Cynagen port of 2.3 onto this device
Really? This is where we stand on this? Nothing since February?
yah i know it sucks i want to learn to port so i can take the roms made for dx or d2 i really want cyn
Isn't the bootloader locked on this thing? That's why not really any roms?
Bootloader on the Droid X and Droid 2 are locked as well but both have some custom ROMs available..
Think it's more of an issue with the lack of numbers....not any devs have this device and not a huge number of Droid Pro users compared with the others....with the similarities with the X and Droid 2 you would think it wouldn't be too hard to port over a ROM to the Pro....
if you go check out droid forums you will see there is a guy working on CM7 for the PRO i cant wait for the first beta

Well the problem is the pro was targeted at corporate America. Not the IT guys or nerds but the exec's that loved the blackberry. The result is you don't have a lot of pro owners that know what xda-developers.com is, let alone a custom rom.
Bashing motorola? For realz? Damn man I love my Droid X, I do product reviews on just about every phone on the market and I have to say my original Droid X is still my favorite and I don't pay for service, phones or anything. I have my pick... and it's the Droid X. I've been thinking about switching to the Droid X 2 which is just as outstanding, the only problem is I don't want to reward them for not going 4G with it. I don't really need a processor upgrade and I have a 32 gb micro in the Droid X 1 (which I was surprised it recognized to be honest).
Anyway, Droid X 1 with MIUI FTW
Hi all gonna replace my HTC Desire its been great and I am keen to stay with this size device. What would people recommended? The LG seems good but its froyo and I don't really want to go back from gingerbread. Currently running vanilla gingerbread so be happy if I can just run that. Also I tend to flash different roms now and again so a good scene on here would be great.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated
Thanks
Hi mate,
i've got the LG Optimus 2X (P990)
Amazing phone - so fast - and Gingerbread will be released for it in a month or so.
Another great thing about it is that it actually handles 32GB microsd cards

Thanks,
What is the battery life like? don't suppose you had a desire beforehand ?
I would take the Nexus S, pure Google-Phone - 4", similar to Samsung Galaxy S.
I own the Desire HD, 4.3" screen but amazing once you put a custom rom on it.
I would definitely look at something with the dual-core Tegra chipset.
Phones with 3.7 - 4 - 4.3 inch screens that are available now:
HTC Desire S (the successor to the original Desire). (3.7 inch screen, like orig Desire).
HTC Desire HD (successor to the HD2 (runs WM6.5), but runs Android).
Samsung Galaxy S (what I have right now).
Samsung Galaxy S2 (only available in Europe right now).
HTC Incredible S/HTC Droid Incredible 2 (in USA).
Motorola Atrix. (has Motoblur, and locked bootloader, meaning no custom ROMs yet).
Samsung/Google Nexus S (no MicroSD card slot).
LG Optimus 2x/LG G2x (in USA).
Sony Xperia Arc. (one of the thinnest smartphones avilable).
Sony Xperia Play (PlayStation certified).
Or the new HTC Sensation, which is what I'd like, but it's unreleased right now.
Don't forget the
HTC Glacier (aka T-Mobile myTouch 4g) (3.8" screen) (in USA)
I've got it and it does everything I've ever needed to do with it even though I haven't gotten around to rooting it yet.
Selling my EVO after a week..lol
In the market for a rootable EVO alternative..Would love an HTC cause i like the feel of it! Not to fond of Samsung or LG!
Would at least like it to minimum:
1Ghz + CPU
512mb ram/rom
Camera w/ Flash
Of course..Bluetooth, Wifi
ANDROID & ROOTABLE
Please assist me on my search
Get the evo 3d!!
Looks like the HTC Evo Design 4G is launching (or re-launching, depending on how you look at it) on Boost Mobile, May 31st. This phone uses our chipset / processor - MSM8655 - and will launch with ICS / Sense 3.6.
I believe this is the first phone that uses the same chipset as ours that will have ICS. I'd imagine that an update for ours would also be in tow, as that means HTC has already finished a proper ICS / Sense 3.6 rom for our chipset (albeit different screen resolution, qHD). I'm also thinking that our devs (might?) could use this to build a 3.0 kernel for our phone.
Thoughts?
EDIT: Also of note, Sprint's VP of Product said the Sprint variety of the phone will get ICS in June. http://blogs.computerworld.com/20152/sprint_android_40_htc_evo_3d_htc_evo_design_4g
So that also bodes well for us (not taking into account VZW's suckiness in deploying updates)

its possible *something* could come of their kernel source, but who knows
really we will ultimately need our own kernel source (not even our cousin inc s/dhd/desire s source) to build a functional 3.xx kernel with working radio....not that its impossible i guess, but what is actually likely
as for pulling the rom itself, it would have to be resized to scale properly (unless htc included hdpi images in all the apks (unlikely), and if we really wanted sense 3.6 i could have ported it from the sensation xl (didnt seem worth it, since we ll ultimately get our own version at some point, and sense 4 is so much better imo)
but the best take away is what you said: that its good to see htc has ics going on our chipset...which is always a positive
Been dead from the phone game a bit... so
forgive the ignorance if that is what this is, but
can http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1539423 now be ported back to the EVO to get working cams and such and also to play with Sense 4.0 while I await an HTC Nexus announcement?

A 3.0 Linux kernel is still needed to further progress on a sense 4 port
Sent from my PC36100 using xda app-developers app
Yup currently, only the_plattypus is working on a 3.0 kernel for his sense 4 rom. Im sure we would have one, but the evo is a 2+ year old device and everyone has moved onto the latest and greatest. Sense 4a should be the smoothest sense version on the evo since it only requires 512 ram and a 1 ghz processor, other than sense 1.0. I wish i knew how to build a 3.0 kernel, since i really wanted to use sense 4 and i have this phone till april next year... Im sure the evo 4g section will be pretty dead by then...
thanks for the responses! I guess we'll see what happens.
Still some life in my G1! I'm hoping someone gets it going,
or maybe I'll dig into the os more than I have in the past...
I was also wondering the same question about the Inspire 4g which has a Rom here on XDA that states everything is working including FFC http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1849074. It uses the same resolution Cameras as the OG Evo. So does the Huawai Mercury which also gained ICS. There are other phones that use the same rez Camera as the OG Evo that got ICS and have been trying to find the answer if they could be ported over. I can upgrade but in comparison to my OG all other phones are lacking and found nothing worthy of my effort to change phones. Maybe the next drop in Feb will bring one but as to date they fail horribly.

It's not about the res. It's about the drivers and kernel. New drivers need to be written from scratch as well as the 3.0 kernel.
