No, use unrevoked 3, every evo can be rooted one click with unrevoked 3

Even if it does, it will only root and nand unlock, unrevoked is the way to go for both ease and efficiency

Unlocking NAND will allow you to install a custom recovery and completely open your phone, the rooting will just alllow certain apps to run temporarily at that moment, basically rendering your time useless

Unrevoked versus simpleroot

Hi all,
Which is better to root my evo? Simpleroot or Unrevoked? Or does it even matter?

I just ran Simpleroot in less than an hour (that includes downloading and installing .NET 4 framework and rebooting my computer and restoring my backed up data). Unrevoked has never worked for me.
unrevoked literally took me 3 minutes. just pick one and do it..
I guess the better question is will you have any limitations if you use unrevoked3 instead of simple root (in terms of flashing custom roms)?
I thought unrevoked doesn't unlock NAND? I used simple root then followed the thread, how to start over: fully rooted update 1.47, to unlock NAND and get su permissions app.

Yes, but as of version 3.0 the unrevoked homepage says this:
"#
Does unrevoked3 give me root?
Yes. It previously did not; as of version 3.0, it does.
#
What does this do, then?
unrevoked3 will replace the stock Android recovery with a custom one, which adds many features including “nandroid” backups, the ability to use custom ROMs, and a greater amount of flexibility and customization of your Android phone. "
Even though it doesn't unlock NAND...
can anyone speak to whether there is an advantage of using simpleroot on a pre OTA EVO vs letting the OTA update run and then using unrevoked 3?
Safe to say that unrevoked versus simple root is just different gui's but the end result is the same?
How to Root non OTA EVO 4G
How do I root new EVO 4G with software #1.32.651.6? Also how do I put a .zip on SD card? Should I use Simple Root or Unrevoked? Thanks in advance.

Success rate of rooting?

Anyone got an idea about the success rate of the perm root? Is it fairly safe to do? How many people have bricked their phones so far?
100% success. Any chance of failure is due to error on the user's part. Feel confident in yourself.
only way to mess up is if you mess up
Man when I did the perm root it was strange. I didn't get the root but I did get s off. Good enough to be able to flash clockwork recovery though
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
Yes 100% safe if you do it right. Take your time read for hours untill you understand what is going on. If you can get adb running you can root your phone. Just make sure you double check everything.

It's like 4 lines to run in terminal emulator.
Don't F it up and it's 100%

S-Off is root.
S-off is just so it doesn't flash stock software upon startup...
I ran visionary on mine when I didn't have root access but did have s-off
been fine ever since...
I am not the greatest at android but I rooted my G1 and now my G2 and this was WAY easier and I think with all the detailed information in the forums that it's 100%.

I'm sorry, I should have clarified. S-Off is *technically* root. When people think of being rooted they think of root for what it is, not root until you reboot and then have to root again. S-Off allows a more "true root" is probably a better way to put it. I didn't mean as soon as you get s-off you have su automatically, but s-off lets it stay there.

z4root full root

this works for me can't promise that it would work for anyone else....but if you use z4root and get temporary root you can then use rom manager to fully root your phone which will last after reboot and everything....
z4root gives you temporary root and Rom manager lets you flash a custom recovery/roms.
I don't see how a combination of the two would or could give you a NAND Unlock.

He is correct... s-off / nand unlock is necessary for full root.. the evo is easy to root anyways....

Thanks for this. I've had evo since launch, and it was easy to root 2.1, but am terrified if i need a freeplacement.
I'm sure ill try this first.

Typically you don't have to worry about it for a freeplacement, If you root it all you have to do is flash a stock RUU and everything will go back to orignial. I had to take my wifes for repaired yesterday due to the flash quit working. I just installed a stock RUU from sprint. Had it fixed, went home re-rooted and restored with nandroid and you would never know.
Just use unrevoked. Its super easy to fully root your phone.

worked for me on a friends htc hero. The download I used though gave my computer a virus and was caught by windows defender after the fact so be carefull were you download it from.
but the thing you will be missing is the ability to do a NANDbackup! Among other things that full root gives you.

[Q]The most recent way to root?

Hey, guys. needs some advice here.
I rooted my evo like long time ago. However, I unrooted it since I have to bring it back to Sprint store to fix the charging port.
Anyways, i checked here, xda, and a few youtube clips. unrEVOked 3.3.2 from unrEVOked website, auto root from XDA, and the guide by Fred from here. I just wonder how you guy feel about these 3 ways, which way you guys recommend best to do now?
Just one quick question, unrEVOked 3.3.2 will trun NAND off too, right?

This method is newer and its pretty good. When I used unrevoked I successfully rooted but my fastboot doesn't work. Everything I have to flash is done in hboot or recovery. Unrevoked is pretty damn good though.

True dat, I noticed that the latest 2.5 auto root is just out like a week ago. And I watched the video guide about that, it takes much longer than unrEVOked. But it seems very automatic, just need some patient.

like the first time, i chose toasted method, since it was the most complete way to root back then, even it's much more steps than unrEVOked. I want to do it more right this time too. i have to admit that all methods improved a lot now, just want to hear you guys' recommendation.

Again, thx.
any one else would like to share some experience here? I really appreciate it.
I have seen to many users run into problems with unrevoked. I did it manually using adb commands and it took a while but I knew what was going on if something messed up. That said, I watched a vid on that autoroot tool and it gives you a decent step-by-step with log if something messed up. I would recommend it, or of course, you could still use the manual method in the dev forum. The title says they are no longer updating it, but no releases have occurred since then so everything in it still applies.

I have used the auto root method on about 5 evo's worked like a charm everytime.. I spent about a month researching countless forums.. Was about to use unrevoked however was detoured because some people were not getting full root and various other problems.. From what I read now they all work.

I really appreciate it, guys.
I've rooted 2 evos 2 heros a g1 a g2 an incredible and an eris all with unrevoked3 and it worked flawlessly. Just follow instructions and enjoy
Rooted 3 evos, 1 over xbox live, with unrevoked, and no problems. Just need the hboot drivers, install then uninstall htc sync, then run.
And don't forget to turn on usb debugging.
I'm opposite of some here, I've heard of tons of issues with Autoroot & the Evo, but fairly few with unrevoked.
I'd have to place my vote with unrevoked if you're looking for an automatic rooting process. Just remember that whatever you do, read the directions thoroughly.

I agree, most people have issues with autoroot, from what I've seen and dealt with.
Thanks for those reminding and experience sharing. I guess it's much simpler to use unrEVOked there, besides, i m using MacOS, so no need to download those driver or sync for unrEVOked, am I right?

HTC EVO 4G Design root

Just wondering if its the same method as the o.g evo. I tried to root it once but I needed to updated my adb, but should I use the kingdom root method or will revolutionary work for it as well? Also what roms will work on it?
