Is there a Chevron replacement for post NoDo hacking for WP7 Samsung Focus?
If you're a student (or you have access to an edu email address) why not developper unlock it for free? Then you can do all the reg editting necessary to sideload as many apps as you want...

Where can you get that? I have a valid student email account.
I'd also like to know. I didn't see anything on the Microsoft site suggesting this was possible, but was pretty sure there must be a way to get an educational account.

Brilliant! I just signed up for a dreamspark account with my fiancé's student account and now I am getting to register my device...but then again couldn't I always do this? I was under the impression the $99 fee was just to post your app to the marketplace... I am confused the more I think about it.

You won't get it unlocked with chevron after nodo. The trick is to unlock it before you do nodo with this meathod ... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1009974

Hi all apologies if this doesnt belong here - i dont post much.
But i had a question in relation to testing an app im developing on a real phone as opposed to the emulator on PC.
I'm really hoping u dont have to register as a developer before u can actually test the app ?
I know the phone needs developer unlocking but surely they should allow testing first - who know when i'll need/want to put the app on the marketplace.

You need to be registered and have your identity verified before you can unlock your phone for development use. Very annoying for students who don't have their identities verified until after they submit an app for certification.

Ahh, so that is why my identity has yet to be verified lol.
how annoying ... im an ex-developer wanting to freshen my skills so unless i register i cant test the thing on phone

It's very easy to get by this problem... Submit a blank WM 6.5 application. It will get denied and you will get verified.
So there is now way to deploy tools to your own phone without paying 99$ if you are not a student?
that has always existed... you need to have an @edu account registered MS under the DreamSpark program, which only your school/university can do i believe (as it requires verification, which i didn't bother with).

They didn't do it to stop that, they did it to slow piracy, that combined with the 10 sideloaded app limit does put a dis-incentive to abusing this method.
Also if an app is good enough for you, perhaps it'd do well as a free or paid app on the marketplace.
Tried installing, but it didn't recognize my HD2.
So following the advise to put a reg entry on my pc, Chevron opened, I checked the required boxes and tried to run, but again it wouldn't see the phone.
I finally found the makers Twitter page, saying that MS will be patching the unlocker on their first update.(proberbly the reason the site is now down).
Anyway after checking Zune on my PC, Microsoft has already installed three patches to the phone during my first Sync.

I hope there's a way round this, and I hope I'm wrong, sorry for the bad news...
EDIT: Found out that I need Development tools installed, which isn't stated in the two Threads I was reading, after more searching, I have hope again. If it works I will update this post.

Edit: Finally got it working today and UK is screwed...just got off the phone wit MS (UK based folk can call: 0844 800 2400 choose option 2 and then option 7) They've stopped giving them out and to contact my operator. T-mobile UK will proberbly tell me to sod off... so I guess I'll have to wait for a Key-Gen to come out.
Hmm Then i must be just in time because i got mine unlocked a few hours ago..
Hopefully this product works like an Iphone does ( not installing any updates or w/e without notifying you ).. If it happens automatically I'm screwed because Windows Phone 7 seems to have a mind of its own doing its own updating and everything..
I had to install WP7 SDK. Without that, it would not work at all! Just worked for me.

Well the title is correct, Microsoft is patching the ChevronWP7 exploit.
The inclination that the patch has already been pushed is the incorrect part.
Let's just hope something good comes from the talks DFT ChevronWP7 is going to have with Microsoft!

Still do not get it, what activation are you talking about? WP7 does not need to be activated?!
got Omnia 7 with WP7 7.0.7355.0 v (xxka1 rom).
i have copy/paste...
any1 else got this version and can confirm chevronwp7 working?
can't get it to unlock...
i could unlock previous version (before service)
now i alway get no connection... (zune etc. all running) and tried it 100times with all different settings from forums...
we were informed that after the release of Nodo
MS would kill the chevron

i had speaker replaced in warranty....
so the service updated my phone to KA1
i noticed changes only copy/paste and chevron not working anymore...
i found no other changes yet...
still only DHCP no fixed ip...
no camera settings save
maybe battery is better
no user ringtones...
so not much new...

if you have this build 7.0.7355.0,you have also integrate Nodo(copy\past and other)
Lucky you then (unless you relied on Chevron, in which case, poor you)!
Do you use Bluetooth at all? I'm having major issues with my Bluetooth and I'm hoping the update will fix it.
If you have used it did it work properly for you previously, and if it didn't, does it work now?

i used chevron to test my own programs and use it...
no other way as i can't get developer acc. in my country...
oh and no multitasking...or i can't find it...as seen on videos

That sucks. Multitasking will be coming later this year, I don't think it was supposed to be a part of NoDo.

yeah overall the wp7 is 10000x better than wm6.5
but to "forget" fixed ip??? wtf
like forgeting to include sms on phone..
otherwise it's the best os ever...after few updates it will be in universe..

Are you folks referring to fixed WIFI IP address? If so, the DVP has a option to set static IP address using the EM tool. I am sure other devices should have it as part of the Engineering menu somewhere.

Do you really think that Microsoft cares what you expected?.. They have a huge issue with app security and side-loading (read - the money issue ). Copy/paste feature it's just a little candy for naive enthusiasts...

I wonder if they fixed the spratic keyboard responce problems. Still, its pretty disapointing that it has taken them five months to add a feature already implimented in the original OS. Looks like we will be having to do everything ourselves like in iOS.
If anyone's noticed, App Hub was just updated to support a new private beta marketplace. Most importantly, it doesn't require certification.
I'm not sure what the problem has been in the past with the Marketplace and 'InteropServices' apps. But if it was the actual certification that was stopping someone from submitting one, maybe this new beta marketplace could help 'jailbreak' Mango.

Developers publish the app as a 'beta app' and then they will be able to send invites via Live ID email address to the people they want to test it.

Simple way is to either signup (if you have a school .edu address, or pay fee) for Dreamspark. But you will be limited to what you can install on your device anything that requires interlop unlock you can't install on device.
