ProClipUSA - Xoom Accessories

I am a big fan of these mounting/holder solutions. A little expensive but it is a brainless and clean installation that I have used for many years with various phones. Here is the response I got back from them regarding a Xoom holder:[FONT=&quot]

Thank you for your continued interest in our products. We do anticipate making a Holder for the Xoom tablet, however due to the large number of new products we are developing, we cannot give a specific date as to when this will be available. You will be notified by e-mail as soon as the Holder has been received at our warehouse and is ready for online ordering.

Not sure but when the Captivate first came out, it took nearly two months before the holder was available.

Seems like they could modify the bracket for the iPad and make it a 'universal' adjustable tablet mount.
More variety and less models so less outlay on different types.
But what do I know...I'm just a consumer!

I ordered the Ram Mount and now its saying its out of stock with no date as to when

they do this to an extent, but the deal with proclip/brodit is that they make a really high quality product that is tailored specifically for your device. part of why they are so good; its hard to explain how perfect my galaxy s mount from them is. I've often wondered how they make money (other than the price) given how much manpower they must expend just to make a bracket that works perfectly for each car and device. They said the same thing as the OP got about my phone and it took about 2 months for it to come to fruition, willing to wait if that is indeed the case.

Car mount

Anyone found a good car windshield mount for using GPS?
All the ones I've seen looks like they'd block view and are all designed to hold it vertically. (Would be be afraid of it falling out if there were not support on all 4 sides)
here's the samsung OEM one, probably the most secure but i just don't like the amount of visual "real estate" it takes up - ie too likely to block view of the road http://www.samsung.com/us/consumer/...ype=acc_detail&subsubtype=car-kits&returnurl=
i ordered one of these, fairly cheap, and it is a 3 point grip, off ebay, but figured it would serve till i decided which one i wanted to go with
might just make out of fiberglass to mount low on top of the dashboard (ie no pedestal)
same seller on ebay has two others, one is very similiar to the samsungs in term of the pedestal and the other is vent mount

I'm thinking about this one. I don't want anything on my windshield or dash.

I actually like that one... My phone doesn't get here until Tuesday (hopefully) but this looks like a great option
i like the samsung one actually, looks sturdy and secure, and the details say it comes with a suction cup windshield mount and a dash mount. I signed up to be notified of when the backorder clears up. Considering I cleared up my phone's gps issues today, i'm actually excited for this.

actually have it here now (came in the other day) and i was more impressed with it than i expected to be - the mechanical functions of the suction lock handle &
the knob that tightens the ball socket at the back of the holder (that socket that lets you finitely adjust angle 3 dimensionally) is actually impressively solid
the plastic holder shell, once i got it on the bracket, is stronger than i imagined - for $11 shipped, i'm happy and may just stay with this one
I bought this one

I'm thinking of buying that ebay one. Does it have a hole for the camera? Not that I will use it too much but it would be cool to have a dash cam

wouldn't take much to cut a hole in it, but that isn't a bad idea - i've actually had moments where i thought about getting one everytime some idiot nearly causes an accident by cutting in front of me, from 2 lanes over to make an exit ramp he shouldn't be trying to make, only to hit the brakes hard just as he's in front of me (the cabs in vegas have em)
I got one that mounts in the cup holder. In my truck the windshield is too far away but there is a cup holder in the perfect position. The main cup holder that I use is still open so I don't lose anything. Also, it rotates to landscape mode (either direction) with a click.

yea i guess it wouldn't take too much effort to take a dremel to the mount and make a hole for the camera.
Some one a few posts up linked to a very small mount that would leave the top of the phone uncovered.
i don't know if you guys know about the brodit/proclip ones, but they have been the best mount i've found for just about any phone or device i've ever used.
its an intermodal system that has an attatchment custom made for your car model and a separate one for your specific device.
i have found those to be the absolute best, hands down. i live in socal and spend a good part of my life on the road so i have tried about every brand and these are the best.
http://www.proclipusa.com/
they only have one for the galaxy s right now, but i emailed my customer service rep and he emailed back right away telling me they are working on a custom one for the vibrant and that he would email me when they were done.
i am currently using my hd2 mount with the gelskin on which sorta works until they come up with one for this device.

looks really nice, but hella expensive once you add the car mount and the device holder. i thought samsung's was expensive, but unless there's some huge benefit to the proclip i'm going to probably get samsung's or a 3rd party generic mount like arkon's universal mount
well the advantage such as it is is that once you buy the car mount it works for all devices in the future and fits your specific car like a glove. especially useful if you have a unique car (i drive an element) where suction mounts or other things don't work. i know its expensive, but i've found it to be worth it. my devices never fall or hit anything or vibrate and are always exactly within arms reach. definitely an investment though.
I haven't received my phone yet but does anybody know if the Vibrant has a "Car Mode"
I know the original droid would sense the magnets in the oem car mount go into car mode automatically. The Droid X does also.

i think you might be right... i know they are usually very specific about testing and stuff, so if that's the case im sure they will update the listing to say its available for both. on the hd2 the dimensions were slightly off and they had a mount for the tmous hd2 out about three days after launch.
EDIT: looking at official specs, the vibrant is supposed to be 0.3mm wider, for what its worth
dunno about the car mode, but doesn't sound like its the same thing. the question would be: does the vibrant have a magnetic sensor? otherwise its just going to have to be some kind of app, which i do not believe is included, but might be available on market...

Headrest Mounts - Grip Daddy or other?

I decided that I'd go ahead and get a tablet so I went with this device. I primarily got this so my daughter could watch movies on car trips and my wife can dub around the net at home. Most all the mounting discussion seems to be front-seat mounts but I'm looking to mount for the back seat, prefereable on a driver's side headrest. I was looking at the Grip Daddy (http://gripdaddymounts.com/) mounts, and debating between the two they offer but I havne't been able to find too much about them.
I was wondering if anyone had any feedback or experience with them, or alternatives they'd prefer? I'm looking for rear-headrest mounting and would prefer the ability to position it near the middlle, but directly behind the driver's headrest is also fine. ('08 Dodge Caravan)
Thanks for any suggestions, or even tips in general about mounting this thing.
Wouldn't something like this work as well for a fraction?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/320731033899?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
Thanks for the response, I didn't articulate that clearly enough, but that's the reason I'm asking. I see a lot of mounts that are around that price, but I didn't know if there was something about the Grip Daddy and it's $60 price tag that actually made it worth it, or if the inexpensive non OEM ebay/amazon items are as good as OEM. (That's what I usually buy for my cell phones)
I haven't seen any discussion about headrest mounts at all so I was just kind of throwing it out there in case there was someone else who had experience with this type of mount. I'll just end up getting the cheap one and posting something about it.
The Grip Daddy defenitivly looks more robust, but is it worth it?
I don't know if the eBay / Chineese stuff is sturdy or loose, but usually it's "decent enough". And for the price, well, even if it's a worthless peace of junk, it's 10$ so you will still be able to put food on the table!
I will most likely buy one in the next month or so, I'll let you know if you didn't got one by then!
NOTE: The Grip Daddy is installed on the "upper" part of the headrest, that might be a problem if it's used by kids (mostly)
Well, my daughter is young so she wont be interacting with it unsupervised. We're basically only going to use it as a television for longer car trips so with her strapped in her car seat, this will be just the right distance away.
I went ahead and ordered this one. I didn't want to buy from overseas, as well as wait for the overseas shipping.

I'll post back, with some pix about how it goes.

So I got this in today and I set it up. I can't say I'm too impressed. It's probably fine, unless you hit a bump. It's flimsy and cheap. I initially mounted it with the support holding the tablet upward, but that was way too flimsy. I opted to mount it going down rather than up and I figure if I can put some sort of support behind it to make it secure, but overall it will get the job done.
If you're looking for a headrest mount and plan on using it relatively regularly, I'd spend a little extra for a more rugged mount.
I'm in my third cheap headrest mount. They all broke on the same spot, the pivot joint, different brands bought on amazon and eBay...enough. the grip daddy seems interesting and cheaper than the pad holder...can't decide yet.
Oh yeah, what broke them was my 7 year old daughter
Leaving the car with the backpack, other times, the 2nd row seat laying on it for passengers coming in and out of the 3rd row.

I totally agree with you.
Mine has not broken in over a year of operation, but it makes noise. it is always creaking if it is holding a tablet. I am looking from something more robust as well and had not seen that one that you found. There was another brand out there that looked promising for a $30 price range, but I cannot think of the name right now. (Arkon? http://www.arkon.com/tablet-accessories/universal-tablet-headrest-mount.html).
Anywho, If anyone tries out the Gripdaddy, I would love to know how it works. That creaking is driving me insane!!!
I ended up buying the proclip mount. No ball joints, it's aespherical joint hold together by a screw. Can't easily break this. Expensive, but versatile, since i already have a coupke of device holders.

I'm waiting for it. After i got just the headrest support bits, I ordered the 10.1 holders from the main page, they're suppose to be compatible with any device holder they sell.
Sent from my GT-P6800 using xda premium
Okay, got it, installed one, going to install the other later today.
BEST HEADREST MOUNT EVER. Solid as a rock, at least as solid as your seat/headrest poles. It can stay as close to the back of the seat/headrest as you want, so if any removable case [edit: holder] could be slick, this is it. The other ones I bought on ebay/Amazon (4 in total, all broken by kids/3rd row seat reclining) were big, and they would leave the tablet in the way (say when the kids need to go through one door only). Not this one.
As a bonus, since I bought the slide mounts (male/female) so that the tablet mount is removable, it can leave virtually no trace there's a mount there, quick and easy in/out.
Very expensive for what it is, but you're not paying for the material, but for the engineering. At least that's what I told myself after forking close to $250.00 for it...grr.
Thanks for the follow up,but $250 is not worth it to me. We don't spend enough time in the car at this point to justify me spending that much money on a mount.
If you're happy with it, that's what counts.
anyone else find any lower priced successful options?
Go with Gripdaddy
Although Gripdaddy is a bit more pricey ($60 instead of $10), yes, there is a reason. Unlike the other cheaper models, Gripdaddy does not just break. I've had mine for several months, and it has yet to fail me. It's not made out of cheap plastic - it LASTS! I don't see the shaking either. Instead of spending tons of money replacing the cheap, plastic headrest mounts - I suggest buying the Gripdaddy once and not worrying about future problems.

[Update 5.16.12] (Magnetic) Steelie Mobile Device Holder W/pics

Anybody heard of this new car mount yet?
Steelie Mobile Device Holder
They also have an iPad tabletop stand.
Just ordered the car kit cause It looks like a great product. I love this idea!!!
The best thing is that if you send them your case. They'll punch a hole in it so that the magnet can mount straight to the phone and is a little more discrete.
They were originally on Kickstarter and almost doubled their goal.
Just wanted to post/support a (what seems to me like a great product) that is MADE IN THE U.S.A.
What do you guys think?
And no I am not affiliated with them in any way.

That's unfortunate. Did you try to email them to see if they can help you with possibly offering different shipping options?
Saw these guys at a small town fair in Louisville, CO a week ago. Looked like a good product and the guys who own the company were very enthusiastic and helpful. I specifically asked about GPS interference etc. and they said they'd evaluated several phones with no issues.
I also expressed concern about the size/thickness of the engagement point on the phone and they said that they were working on a lower profile version.
Would really like to see these guys do well. Another small business emerging from middle-class America. Gotta love that.
Similar idea to tetrax, but may be easier to find a mounting spot since it looks like it doesn't need the same sq inch spot if you're not using the vent mounted version.
Wow, this is awesome and perfect for my needs! Just went in for one!
I have a window mount currently but it's a pain if I want to rotate it at all because you have to loosen the ball joint and then tighten it back up. And it's almost impossible to do it with the phone in the holder while keeping it at the angle you want.
That, and the suction cup will fall off from time to time. I've also gotten "yelled at" by a cop for having it up as well, so this will "obstruct my view" way less!
This is so much simpler to use, even though it will add a slight bit of bulk.

Thanks for posting about this here, Iv been researching this product everywhere that I can, but its a hard product to find info about, and whats even worse is that the company has not returned my calls or emails in 3 days since contacting them. Either way I found the steelie product on sale here and I already bought it. http://www.123inkcartridges.ca/accessories-product/ST_C.html and now Im hoping it can be used with my galaxy note i717. Now this is a big phone, probably the biggest and heaviest on the market and im worried it will not work. Does anyone know if my phone will work? Also the steelie on this website looks different than all the other steelie pictures iv found, is the one I bought an older or newer version of the steelie? I already contacted 123 ink cartridges and they assured me that its not counterfeit.
Let us know how the thing feels with a big ol', honkin' magnet on the back of it. I'm intrigued, but think having a magnet the size of a 50-cent piece on the back of my GNex would make my having a pretty custom case rather pointless.
The site also says it doesn't interfere with NFC. I'm dubious and would love to hear from some third parties.

NEVER MIND! the one i bought was a counterfeit... lame. oh well im getting a refund on it.
Any updates?
I see that they offer the Steelie Magnetic Phone Socket for purchase by itself, but dont see it listed for sale anywhere. Would be nice for different cell phone uses that drive the same car. I guess you could always mount it to a easy to swap out phone case if you have the same phone as other users.

Bluetooth Keyboard and Stand

I mainly bought this tablet for school. I was looking into a good bluetooth keyboard with Android specific shortcuts like Home, Recents, Back and Menu. I was looking at the Motorola Wireless Keyboard with Trackpad seeing that it also has a trackpad. But I notice that it has a search button instead of Recents. Would I be able to remap the search button to work for Recents instead?
Also I was looking at stands. I prefer to have a stand alone stand and not a case/stand combo because I love the sleekness of this tab. I was looking at the Arkon Portable Fold-Up Stand but it looks kinda flimsy. Last thing I want is this thing flipping over and breaking.
Can anyone give me some thoughts or other suggestions if need be?
Edit: I just seen the ErgoPROP Ergonomic Display Stand. I think I am sold on this one. Has anyone ever used this stand before?
I have this keyboard http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-920-...089&sr=8-1&keywords=logitech+android+keyboard, and I love it. It's case doubles as a stand.
I agree too, i bought ithe logitech and love it. I haven't tried other keyboards, but im pretty happy with the logitech so i dont think theres really a need to try a new one
I have two of the Arkon stands, which I use with both the Note and my ThinkPad - a heavier, bulkier tablet. The stand is not flimsy at all and has held up well in constant use. I've had the two stands for more than a year. Very portable, but also very sturdy.

You'd been saying a no, reason being the weight of the product?
The price is not the prime issue, my reason to vouch for it is it being the product by Samsung for Samsung...
I'm confused because there aren't a lot of products directly available in India
My reason is based on the size of the Note. It is bigger than the model that item is made for. That said, it's your $.
You were right.
I did little checking too with the local dealer.
Besides that, I even mailed the Customer Care at Samsung and asked them for details.
They have reverted back saying it is not compatible.
What would your suggestions for a keyboard case be like?
Are Samsung Guys at all planning for something like this?
I'm looking for one myself. Haven't found one I like, yet. Check out this thread for help. The first couple of posts are not helpful since they talk about one for the Tab, maybe even the one you found. The rest of the posts may be quite helpful, just depends.

Hmm...
Its kinda sad but Samsung ain't taking a lotta effort it seems.
Hundreds of options (After Market) are available.
Belkin, Kensington etc... have organised accessories but I think / rather I would wait for Samsung.
Hope its not a LONG one...
Thing is, it's still kind of early. Could be Samsung is letting the aftermarket handle things. Who knows?
Think you're right.
Anyway its nice to know I'm not the only one on the lonely road.
I'm pretty sure though the options will be available in Europe / US markets comparatively earlier than India (Asia).
If so, can you be kind enough to inform me of the product?
Thanks.

I have an identical stand sold under a different brand name. I stopped using it when I got a ZAGGFolio for my old Tab 10.1, but since I don't have a proper keyboard/case combo for the Note 10.1, I'm using the stand again.

Because it is for the Tab 10.1, not the Note 10.1.
It's VERY well established that any case specifically made for the Tab or Tab2 10.1 will NOT fit the Note 10.1.

I have two of the Arkon stands, which I use with both the Note and my ThinkPad - a heavier, bulkier tablet. The stand is not flimsy at all and has held up well in constant use. I've had the two stands for more than a year. Very portable, but also very sturdy.

Best car holder/mount for tablets

I have searched a lot about car holders, especially for tablet ones. The problem is that it's hard to find good reviews on the internet and it's even harder to find out how stable or shaky the given holder is while driving, which is exactly the most important thing to me, also it should be universal. Here are some variants:
1. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Exogear-E...tem1c34c9bf1b&clk_rvr_id=520752103178&afsrc=1
2. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/XENOMIX-S...tem41768b0d4e&clk_rvr_id=520748726197&afsrc=1
3. http://www.ikross.com/IKHD12-Car-Dashboard-Mount-Holder-iPad-/-Tablet#
4. http://www.iottie.com/Product/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=970&ProductType=321
5. http://www.arkon.com/tablet-accessories/tablet-quick-release-sticky-dash-mount.html
I assume that in any case I will add some kind of shock absorbing material at needed places to reduce vibrations. I would appreciate any opinion from others, maybe someone has got an experience on these things?
Some reviews:

Arkon:

Arkon has really specialized equipment. Of course a full dock holder type is the best, but those are either expensive or not universal.
I guess I already replied to your question in AndroidForums (where you posted under Klaidonis, and I post under twister6) I'm active in both communities and mirror my reviews. So, just check out my reviews (either from the link I provided to you in AF or in my sig file here). You might want to try a few and see which one you like better?

Thanks a lot!
I bought that for my son's nexus 10:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0072LATE2/
Nothing to say about it except that it does the job perfectly. You can easily move it from one row of seats to another, even to another car. Attaching or detaching it takes just a few seconds. It's solid and doesn't shake when driving.

That headrest mount is AWESOME!!! I reviewed Slim Grip Ultra with that headrest extension here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2174449
Just in general, I reviewed a lot of car mounts (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2192333) and always look at overall pictures of quality and support, and it always narrows down to Arkon. Plus, for a lot of their latest products they have lifetime replacement policy if anything breaks - they will replace it at their own cost (that company been around for 25 years).

Thanks for the link. And I agree about Arkon: when searching for mounts I often end up choosing their stuff.
I recently bought an Arkon visor mount which I think is a nice alternative to the usual dash/windshield mount. Are you interested in me adding a review of it to your thread? I don't seem to find anything similar there.
