I'm running Redemption 2.4 with HeyitsLou's #9 Kernel and the factory 2.15.00.07.28 radio ... Is it really worth it to to flash the radio? ... If so, What would I gain by doing so? ...
No one can tell you if it's worth it or not because baseband performance is extremely subjective based upon your own unique circumstances.
What could you gain? Better signal, faster GPS lock, lower operating temps, better battery life. Conversely, it could also worsen these things. The only way you'll know is to give each baseband version a test drive for a few days and see which one works best for you.
Cool, thanks ... I don't know why but it didn't just click when I was reading posts that the radio is universal on the DInc ... I was worried that it might conflict with the kernel or ROM ...

Its confirmed to work ive tried it but ultimately the 07.28 radio gave me better battery and signal. And yea what he said lol. All of our phones run diff so testing is your best bet just becareful

I don't know what the deal is here at my house ... I get great signal everywhere else but when I started using smart phones I noticed the signal was junk here at the house ... the Verizon store is less than a mile away and I get perfect signal there ... But even standing in my front yard its crappy ... At my pop's house they have to use their phones in certain areas of the house or their calls drop, but I can use my phone anywhere in their house perfectly fine ... I may try the other radios when I have time to fool with the phone some to test them out ... Thanks for the reply ...

YMMV + Odd
As others have said, it is a personal preference (and results may be imaginary). That said, the 9.01 leaked radio was leaked a significant time ago and was never made official; something which speaks VOLUMES to me. I use 7.28.
Hmm, I'll have to look to see what mine is, I guess I assumed it was flashed with a ROM but doesn't look like it.

I have an extremely weak wifi signal, I am only next door (About 1 meter away thru wall) - my laptop, nokia N95, PS3, nokia N97 and iPod have full bars but my phone has only 1.
My HTC Desire has a very low signal and often drops, when it drops I have to disable wifi and re-enable wifi else when its re-scanning it will never find the network.
This problem only occurs when using custom ROM (Currently using MIUI), I've concluded this by installing MIUI, Oxygen, GingerVillian and stock htc. Only in the stock HTC do I get full bars.
I have tested on all with recommended radios and stock radio. HTC ROM has full bars and never drops on all radios but the other ROMs have extremely weak signals even when using the recommended one.
Please help!
Noting the lack of replies on this issue, I'm only guessing that there is no real solution.
I also have found out that I must be on the wifi setting page for my phone to auto re-connect.
hi SMCentral,
found your thread while searching for weak signal cause.
feeding back to your test with different roms, i am on a stock rom (sw 2.29.405.5).
my wifi signal strength was very good last year as far as i remember, but recently suffering from very weak reception. i suspect a bad radio update over OTA. so different stock rom might differ. now i also have to go to wifi page to reconnect probably the signal seems too weak.
-- rajib
PS: Baseband version is 32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27
hope this helps someone to find the cause.
There is an update for the radio here (5.14.05.17). I downloaded the second file since it said it was safer to use. For me it's stable and nothing really happened but people are saying it has improved reception/signal.

I don't have problem with my signals whilst using stock rom but if I use a custom rom with any radio baseband and RIL, I get a very weak wifi signal. Try flashing the latest radio from http://www.mightyrom.com/mrx/MRX/Bravo/Radio/Signed/32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27.zip

I'll be trying this. Will feedback with results. Thanks buddy.
No issue for me regarding signal strength....
On a side note: I wish HTC had incorporated the wirless 802.11n standard to their WiFi module in the Desire...that has a far superior range and better bandwidth.
Yeah, if it had n support, it would of been amazing. Totally amazing.

Yup and would have stopped them selling more desire HD's with n capability. Sure it would have been nice if they had included it but that's life in the mobile phone marketing biz
No wait, after some research. HTC has hidden n capability. :O
I've flashed the .zip and well.. it works signal has become stronger too.
Just flashed the new radio , getting mmuc better wifi signal strength
Thankyou xD
You serious? They actually hid it??....that's so fiendish!!

I'm on the Gingerbread MIUI, which is based on CM7.
I have a Desire Z, living in the UK.
I'm not bothered about data speed, since I don't have a plan.
There's a ****load of pages on all the radio related threads and I was hoping I would get a nice definitive answer if I opened a topic
Cheers
im using the latest radio, and in my opinion( I might be wrong) it's a bit better, Gps lock pretty fast, and signal relatively the same.
Do not change your radio if you already have decent reception in common areas.
Remember: if it ain't broken, don't try to fix it.

The reason I though about it was that apparently you get better battery life if you use a newer one on CM7 because of the (RILs?) Cyanogen used, which are not replacable. Or am I about to open up a massive debate here"

The best radio is often dependent on your geographic location. Different radios work better in different areas. That's why people have said, if you reception is good (and I'd like to add battery life), don't mess with it.
What's the verdict on this? I was running the leaked Gingerbread radio, seemed to be working fine. But I read in one of the ROM threads in the Dev section that the new radio is breaking phones. Apparently after some amount of time running it it completely breaks WiFi... permanently.
What's the story on this? It came from a dev directly, though he said he wasn't sure that is what caused it, he said his phone had to be replaced, and that others had had the issue with the leaked radio as well. Coming from a dev, it freaked me out enough to flash back to the stock radio immediately.
Prior to the GB leak, I'd been running the most recent leaked Evo radio (4/8 I think?) Also seemingly without any problems. Was that radio causing any issues?
Do you have the original post? What development said this?

Ditto. I've ran it since it leaked. And I've never had a problem. And I've ran all the leaked evo ones as well.

He may have been referring to the leaked GB radio for the HTC Thunderbolt. A lot of people have reported bricks from it.
i've been running this radio since it came out, with wifi on most of the time, and haven't had any issues
I've heard this too, and it was in reference to the incredible 5.06 radio. I used it for a short time and it was fine (aside from terrible data speeds) but I'm not really inclined to risk it in the event that there is a correlation between those problems and the new radio.
Had to dig for it.... I have read thru so many threads, but here is what I'm referring to:
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1109355&page=15
Newtoroot is the dev who said that he suspected the new radio broke his WiFi. But a few other people in that thread say they've also had issues or heard that the new radio causes issues with WiFi that can be permanent.
Well ive seen about two people running the leaked radio go into an endless bootloop that doesnt allow you to go into recovery or anything just bootloop after bootloop after bootloop...so technically no hboot=brick idk what other problems it causes but it could be the same as the thunderbolt radio corrupting the emmc. I wouldnt recommend staying on the leaked radio if you really dont have to. Try out the Official Evo Gb Radio if you want the newest
My wife and I both have rooted Dincs, I was playing around flashing different radios on my dinc and comparing signal and data speeds, and GPS lock acquisition, between mine and hers. Hers is stock OTA ROM and stock radio. I tried the Evo 4.08 and the latest GB leak, I saw virtually NO difference in speeds or signal between my phone and hers, with them side by side.
- DSLreports.com consistently reported download speeds ~500-700 kbps
- Signal strength consistently -86 to -90 db
-GPS locks in about 8-10 seconds
both phones were very consistent regardless what radio I had ok my phone. That's enough to convince me that the stock radio is good enough for me

Yea the stock radio is good i just wanted to try something new and flash a radio im on 4.08 thing about switching to the offcial evo gb radio
I ran 4.08 for a few months. I had no problems with it. The GPS *seemed* to lock faster, but the testing today has me thinking it must have been more where I was or something else giving the faster locks. I'm going to try some more radios tonight and test side by side with my wife's dinc just to see if any of them actually makes a significant difference.
I've been using the leaked 10.05 radio since it came out and have had no problem with it ever. My wifi has never ceased to work and since I use it about 99% of the time you can bet this radio is safe.

Anyone tried 2.15.00.11.19 and notice any drawbacks over the Evo Official?
Been running 2.15.00.11.19 since couple days after it hit and have had no adverse effects but hearing the Evo Official is good is giving me an itch that just has to be scratched. If someone says not to switch, it's no better, I'll leave it be. If however the EO is better.... AAAAA Flashing I will go!
which radio are we talking about? 05.02 or 05.06?
Well I've read 5.06 is the leaked and had bricked (no hboot, boot loop) so guessing 5.02 would be the official unless I'm wrong which is not uncommon.
Have great gps and call service, data is just miserable lately on 3g. If not radio, it's got to be big red slowing down in area to better support 4g.

Hey guys. As we all know there are about 5 different Radios for the *GSM* nexus phones and alot of people are on the bridge on which one to use, how they behaved in certain areas, which one are we using, etc and i thought a thread from us users giving our personal reviews on radios we ran and how they performed for us could be pretty beneficial. I'll start us off.
Out here in Los Angeles, California on T-Mobile USA. i was on the kk1 radio (came stock) and i had unbelievable battery life. Usually a day or two i could go without a charge! Today flashed the kk7 radio to see how it performs and immediately i noticed i'm having constant reliable 4g so thats a major plus, then just now i switched to the kl1 after looking at reviews and now i'm going to test this one for a few days to see how it goes. Me personally i am looking for the best battery life so i'll be looking for that for the next few days while i'm testing these radios out.
Let me know how that is.. I have good battery life and reception on xxkk6 here in Springfield Ohio

DVKK6 works perfectly with the Telstra network in Australia. Although you can use the XXKK6 radio without any issues, there is little difference between the two.

we might have to stay in touch... I'm in LA and on T-Mobile. So which radio do you recommend? Kl1 or kk7 (reception speed wise)

Wouldn't this be more useful to post in the radio-collection thread?
I mean... To keep things a bit connected? That was why I created it in the first place

I'm on kk1 and battery is great 3 hours screen on time with YouTube browsing and other junk, no games . However I get signal drop outs and my wifi is so slow compared to my gs2 that I use for work.
Waiting for the update hoping it will fix some issues if not time to root and flash.
But battery has gotten better the longer I have the phone and the more apps that run lol its strange lol

KK6 - o2 Germany - best radio and speech quality I've ever had with a phone.
I've used KK1, KK6 and KL1, speed tested them and made calls, reception and battery tests.
The best one is KK1. Full HSPA where available, upload is as good as KL1. KK6 has the best upload speed, but less reception and battery durance.
KK1 switches to 3G when not used, the others don't.
So, my option is KK1 baseband plus KL01 bootloader.
KK6 has been the best for me, by far.
KK7 is out?
Flashed to kk6, best results for me

Guys guys.
This is the radio discussion thread, and it has all the radios discussed linked and ready for download, with links for each respective basebands thread and mirrors and all that.
If you discuss things there instead of in a million loose threads around the forum it would make it easier for people later to make assumptions about which radios work well and where.
Besides, I thought XDA had a policy on duplicate posts etc.
Hey guys, i need some help. I flash ROMs all the time
But i have to admit. I don't understand what makes one radio
For tmobile different than the other. They are all software
Based and not a hardware change. So could someone explain
It to me like a i am two years old. In other words make it simple.
O and one more thing. Can we flash the telus radio if we use
Tmobile? Thanks in advance...
Some radios are better in certain areas for different people. I don't think are that different at all except some seem to have better signal, data, wifi, etc. ULVE1 is great on the east coast but not so much in the west. The latest UVLI4 works great and gives good speed and some say kills call echo too. It is all your location basically they just have multiple radios for phones because they usually get updates every few months like gb to ics to jb and so on. Occasionally though they do implement a fix or two into a new radio not all the time though.
