I am wanting to try one of the new Gingerbread ROMS -- MIUI, CM7, Kings -- but I really need ALL of the following to work:
- GPS
- 720p video recording
- 8mp camera
- Front camera
Has anyone tried a GB ROM that supports all this?
Thanks!
GPS is spotty on all GB roms, however CM7 has everything else working.
Personally never had an issue with GPS on CM7, but CM7 has everything working.

iam using VirusROM GengerSense ReV™ B3:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1036706&page=560
GPS, 720P camcore, 8mp camera, ffc are OK!
cm7 is probably the best aosp rom out there. all the other cm7 copies are just cm7 stripped of most tweaks to make it more stock (miui being the exception, where they add stuff. but do you like that stuff :/ ).
no aosp ginger roms have 720p recording.
everything works on cm7 (except 720p recording, and atm mms recieve on newest nightlys, but that's a temporary problem.) even 4g and hdmi. gps works for almost everyone after the fix, and it works perfectly for me. just try it. really great. you won't miss 720p.
CM7 is a great ROM

Wow! The camera is now working for the new sense.
The new official versions of those new sense roms will come out very soon (Robociks RCMixHD and Desire Z Port).
Now, I am confused :
To rotate or not to rotate?
Anyone can help me decide?
Personally I don't like the look of it in Landscape so I'll say HD
Not followed the camera progress for a while so if it's working I'll be rooting again soon
I was going to ask the same question!. I can live without 720p for the time being - seems a minor fix compared to actually getting the camera working in these ROM's.
I am currently running Teppics ROM and i do like it but i am very tempted to try another!
Can i just ask what is the rotating part you are talking about? - I have not kept up with the ports until the camera issue was resolved?

to be honest, the rotating kind of annoys me, so i'm a HD rom man.
the MT4G rom is also interesting and worth a look if you want to try something a bit different. really fast too.
Hmmm....it seems rotation is not to everyone liking..
720p is also a minor problem for me as long as I have the camera working because I need the camera for emergency use when I don't have my Panasonic FZ38 with me.
Is there a speed difference between Z and HD?
My Mistake, ignore this reply
*This*
Never use 720p as it's terrible on the Desire so it doesn't bother me - just a working camera will do the job!!
All flashed and working fine
aaa said:
If I am not mistaken, MT4G is a non-Sense ROM.
I have tried Cynogen about two weeks ago, I like the speed but I got the impression that I was not holding an HTC Desire on my hand because the Sense was missing and Sense is a kind of a birth mark on every normal HTC Desire.
That is why I use Leedroid instead

Have you find any issues or bugs (the laggy 720p is already known)? Notification LED?
According to forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=818392 : "Rom is cleaned of bloatware."
Do you know :
What are/ is the bloatware/s? or what is missing or removed?
One of my fav mod now is the DSP manager and I am currently using Leedroid 2.2f, does the DSP thing works on that ROM?

the bloatware was all the t-mobile junk and game demos/apps etc
DSP manager isn't working on this rom at the moment
(but the dev is very helpful and will probably try to fix it if you ask him nicely )
In my opinion the rom kernel isn't the best, I've tried quite a few over the weeks and coutts99 kernel remix is the best so far (now with audiomod to boost the sound)
there is a promised new release version later on tonight so if you're thinking of flashing this rom hang on for a few hours...!

I will definitely wait.
I want the new sense badly
It doesn't have to be the same DSP manager as I use at the moment as long as I can adjust the audio quality as I please.
I have tried the HD Rom 3 weeks ago, but switched back to Leedroid because of the camera was not working.
Now the camera is working, I can live with the 720p problem.Although, I am still hoping that the 720p problem will also be fixed soon.

Hi, I was wondering if it was possible to install the HTC Sense 4.0 Camera APK and use it as a default for my current ICS ROM.. I'm using Ice Cream Jibwich 2.0, so far it seems to be the smoothest ICS ROM that works on my Desire Z and does have a working camera.. I just like some of the functionality of the Sense 4.0 camera, and I was wondering if I could get it on my ICS ROM.. Is there anything I need to know about? Is it just as simple as replacing the camera apk or will there be issues with framework? etc.
Thanks

the Sense-style blobs, drivers, etc is designed specifically for that sense kernel it won't work outside of that.

will it be possible to have a stable ICS or jelly bean rom in the near future or does it seem quite impossible.. when i say stable, i mean usable for daily use with camera, camcorder, video playback, fm radio, bluetooth running properly
Hello,
on ICS devs have already managed to get camera, camcorder, video playback and bluetooth working properly. and you can get fm radio working with an extra application.
on JB devs have got camera, and bluetooth working, but the camcorder and video playback still needs work. nothing is impossible when it comes to android. hope they will figure it out soon.
I've tried Paranoid android by Yasir and it worked well. For the camcorder and video playback, i installed 3rd party apps and worked just fine. But i don't really use those stuff that much.

I flashed Sandvold ICS once but removed it a day later. I don't quite remember why, think it was some crash problem.
However, I have tried Nikez ICS & JB, Elk759 JB, Spazedog ICS/JB. All of these ROMs are working fine for me without any problems or stupid crashes. However, a little faster ROM is needed.

Hello,
I am a long time CM7 user. Since there is no official CM9 or CM10 comming out for the Desire, I was wondering whether there is any real reason to dive into ICS or JB waters.
From what I could find, ICS should have USB host in the kernel and JB a faster UI. Now how does this translate to our device? Is there a real performance benefit or are these roms coming out just for sake of having the latest android?
note: I am running everything from SD with S2E on CM7 as there is not nearly enough internal memory in the Desire for me, so performance penalty here on GB as well...

Answer in your question, since there is no chance for Desire to get full HWA/vsync (project butter) i see no reasons to use it. (not to mention there are still loads of issues like camcorder etc.)
Actual hwa/vsync in desire rom's is not a real deal, it's just a half working hacks.
Yeah, well... The only reason why I'm looking forward for ics and jb is sense 4 Other than that, I guess that gb is the best for our device.

Camera has been fixed about a month back or more (though preview with stock camera is still glitched), we are talking about camcorder.
Also can you specify what exactly is better than CM7?
For example, CM7 gives you about twice more free RAM on boot than ICS/JB. (and ICS/JB is supposed to be multitasking, go figure lol)
So yeah, go record some video using this ROM and upload it to YT, i will have good laugh.

Of course not. Engage brain.
He means just from the phone booting up it uses more RAM than GB. Not including apps you launch
To be fair to jellybean if it was coded properly for the desire it would be considerably faster than gingerbread.

Could you define "loads of issues"? I only see camcorder, sometimes 3g drops.

First one that comes to my mind, blinking/flashing Youtube videos. (issue exists for about half year already in ICS/JB)
Broken camcorder you mentioned (15 fps recording) wasn't fixed for about a year already (since first ICS builds)
Non working flash (and the JB compatibility doesn't matter, it has been confirmed working on other devices with workaround), dont want to go into details it just doesnt work in Desire JB ROM's.
Want more? JB/ICS is much larger in size, which means YOU HAVE TO use ext partition for a2sd solution, while on GB ROM's internal memory can be enough with custom hboot. (just dont tell me there is no speed difference between internal / sd :laugh
And since Qualcomm/HTC will NEVER release libs/source for all the drivers, there will be never fully working HWA/Butter.

About RAM: You obviously aren't into Linux/Android that much, but used RAM actually isn't a bad thing.

Yeah, especially when you run out of RAM entire framework/launcher restarting, maybe not a bad thing but utterly annoying. (it never happens on GB ROM's.)
Just to show what's the difference, upon booting JB ROM you'll have about 150-160Mb free RAM, on GB (cm7, mildwild w/e) it's about 290-300Mb free RAM - go figure.
So yeah, i think i'm fine with Android/Linux knowledge.

Until you'll run out of RAM, which happens quite often @ JB.
