6.1 ROMS Internet Connection Sharing problems?

I have noticed a few people posting about Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) problems with the fantastic new 6.1 ROMS. This is what I discovered:
I was mystified that Internet Sharing was showing as "Connected" on the smartphone but my PC would not get an IP address (some other people report this as getting 0.0.0.0 but that just means that it's not getting an address). Then I realized that my laptop already had an active Internet connection (through WiFi) when I was trying this. So, I disabled my WiFi connection, shut the phone off and then turned it on, and Internet Sharing worked!
I think this is why: I don't remember if this was true in the 6.0 ROMs, but in 6.1, when the phone is connected with the USB cable (and ActiveSync 4.5 is installed) the phone will automatically grab and use the PC's Internet connection. So in this mode if you do any browsing on the phone you are actually using the PC's Internet connection and not the GPRS. So when you try Internet Sharing it creates a "double sharing" problem that keeps you from getting an address on the GPRS network. I think this is a cool feature!
If there is no PC Internet connection then turning on Internet Sharing on the phone works. Now I'm wondering what would happen if I am WiFi connected on the phone. Will Internet Sharing in 6.1 give out the WiFi connection instead of the GPRS connection? Probably not - but it sure would be cool!
Anyway - this is my first post, and here is the signature that I plan to use here:

Kavana and Ricky are AWESOME!!! I love the 6.1 ROMs on my S620 (formerly TMobile Dash) and I can't thank you two enough for providing them.
Sharing phone's WiFi - not quite
So I tried sharing the phone's WiFi connection to the PC.
I know - why bother? Because it's cool!!! (Actually the phone gets really hot when WiFi is turned on.)
Unfortunately, it seems that Internet Sharing (on the phone) will only try to share the GPRS connection. It doesn't list WiFi in the Connect to... box. But it tries! In fact it gave my PC an address on the WiFi network, but it established the actual connection to the GPRS network. I tried turning the phone functions off but this just causes Internet Sharing to fail completely.
Oh, and a note: Internet Sharing will NOT work properly if you have the phone's WiFi turned on. This is because Internet Sharing will connect to the GPRS network but will give you an address on the WiFi network, which means that none of your traffic will route correctly. At least I think that is what's going on.

internet sharing implies pc/ppc sharing only right?
phil_white99,
That is very similar to what I am experiencing. I tried this past evening to disable the onboard network connections of my home pc before I attached my Dash. I then attempted internet sharing, and still only got 0.0.0.0s for an IP.
Have you been successful on sharing your Internet connection on multiple computers?
Don
BlueTooth was the problem.
I finally figured out that I could work around the problem by disabling bluetooth in the comm manager when I need to use Internet connection sharing. http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-385825.html was what clued me in to the answer.

[Q] Hotspot on Cyanogen 6.0/6.1/7

I've noticed this little bug on cyanogenmod (any version) that when I connect to its hotspot, windows ALWAYS asks if its a home, work, or public connection as if its a new router I'm connecting to. It doesn't happen with the wireless tether app but then I have two hotspot icons on top and that's annoying. Is there a fix for this?
sent from my Evo on Americans REAL largest 4G network
...that's not a bug with the hotspot. That's Windows not recognizing the network properly. If anything, (and I haven't checked this myself) the hotspot uses a new class-C private network each time it's ran, and because of that Windows doesn't recognize it (Because Win looks at the default gateway and DNS servers, as well as the subnet, rather than the MAC address or anything else).
Hmm.. its only happened to me running cyanogen that's why I assumed its the rom. Do you by any chance know how to go around that?

I have a Sprint Android phone on a Verizon Prepaid plan with web connection issues

I have a Sprint Android Conquerer D600 on a Verizon Prepaid plan. I can make and receive calls but I can't connect to the internet, connecting via WiFi is OK. I can setup a hotspot and other devices can connect to the web via the hotspot but connecting the phone directly to the web is not possible UNTIL I send a picture message to another phone, this establishes a 3G connection which then allows me to browse the web on the Android phone. If I turn the phone off, then turn it back on, the 3G connection is lost and I have to send a picture message again in order to re-establish a 3G connection. Setting up a hotspot always provides an internet connection for other devices regardless.
When I do manage to establish a 3G connection via web browser or hotspot, it's really slow with upload/download speeds in average of 130kbps. I know I'm doing something wrong because I have seen many videos on YouTube where the connection is constant, and way faster than what I'm getting on averages of about 2000kbps
Anyone know how I can fix the speed issue? I did this on my own but I can't seem to fix the issue. I can make/receive calls & text but I'm having issues with the internet connection.

[Q] More Wifi questions...

I have a N7100 and I am also having wifi connectivity issues
I read the old wifi connectivity thread but my issue doesn't seem to be the same.
.I have a broadband wifi router which I also use an iPad, win Xp laptop, HTC Wildfire S and Motorola defy through, all of which have been fine (using WEP encryption)
)Unfortunately the note II seems to connect but then doesn't access the Internet.
The phone's wifi page shows connection. It connects then receives and IP address but then the alert comes up that there is no Internet access. I also use fing which says that there is no wifi network.
I''ve downloaded the apps wifi manager and wifi analyser to try and get to the bottom of it but they both say I have good signal strength and are connected.
Wifi analyser showed there was a bit of crossover from another AP router next door so I changed the channel to give clear air between us. I then reconnected all the devices and they all work -apart from my new Note.
My question so are 1)is there any more i can do to fix it. 2)where should I look to find the logs which might let me diagnose it a bit better . I should add that sometimes it just works and can browse and download as normal, but most of the time it doesn't.
I started to have trouble connecting to wifis few days ago, it says that signal is very strong i even see full bars and it stops on "containing IP adress" and then shows up window that signal is poor and doesnt connect, but wifi is working my friend next to me was connected, its in a bar and like 2 weeks ago i was able to connect to that very same wifi, very disappointing, no clue what could be wrong

[Q] Wi Fi Connectivity

Hi all,
Lost info for my original account, so I made a new one.
Straight out of the box my HTC One has not been able to connect to my router. It gives me the message that it's avoiding a poor internet connection although under the connections it says the signal strength is excellent. My laptop connects just fine. My Razr HD connects just fine, but interestingly my wife's galaxy S3 will not connect either. It gives her the same message.
I've tried changing the bandwidth from auto to 2.4 to 5. I've tried forgetting the network. I've tried static internet connection with IP address 192.168.0.15 and also 10.0.0.11 I enabled the DLNA, there is no useable option to clear cache or clear data and last of all I did a factory reset.
None of these worked. DLNA and the static internet connection have allowed me to connect, but it's not really connected. I'm not sure what's happening. It says connected with excellent signal strength, but nothing connects. No internet, no netflix, no nothing.
I think it might be something to do with the router itself, but I don't think I'll be able to get any information from netgear's people. It's not broken (other devices connect just fine) but these newer smartphones seem to have a problem with it.
Neatgear N300. Also, I tried WPS connection as well. No Dice.
Thanks
Update-I've found a -similar- issue in this forum regarding specific bandwidth connectivity issues for dual band routers. One of the suggestions was to update the firmware. I haven't been able to do this successfully. Still trying.
Update 2-Tried to connect to Safeway WiFi today. No luck. It goes to the sign in page and it's just blank. At home it says the page is unavailable. At safeway it's just blank...
*bump* No help at all?
