Hello all,
On the Desire HD, pressing the search button on the home screens launches HTC's Search Anywhere. Is it possible to change this so that it launches the Google Search application?
Thanks,

Just the same question I had. Also wondering if I remove the search anywhere apk from system/app if this would allow me to redesignate the button.
Edit: Removing the search anywhere apk just made it such that the search softkey does nothing now. Ugh.
Wish you could change this. So annoying. Did anyone ever manage to find a way?
Try button remapper, it's on xda.

Hi
I recently tried to install google maps on my phone but when I get the link for it. It brings up a page sasying 'visit now' but when I click this it only takes me back to google search.
Does this happen to anyone else?? Or am i being stupid and missing a link to downloading the software for it? I searched the forum and didnt find a similiar problem to this.
Cheers.

Not sure if this has been covered but came accross this site earlier.
http://nimbu.amorvi.com/2010/04/add-turn-by-turn-navigation-to-htc-desire/
I know have full voice search on my desire and don't have to type an address in Google maps, I just tell it where I want to go.
Some good tips on the site.
*Sigh*
on the other hand you could use the official Google Maps which has full Navigation.
From that link...
EDIT: Please not that as of today 21/04/2010. Googe HAVE implemented turn by turn navigation for the UK. Simply use the default maps app that came pre-installed on your device to use this functionality.

I think you are missing the point, you can search the destination by voice using the google maps.
The link I submitted has a section to replace the Desire keyboard .apk with a voice search enabled one.
You mean this one?

Hello,
I have a Telus Desire HD, still stock and untouched. I'm waiting for some more support, etc before I root it.
My problem is that when I press the Search capacitive key, and use the "Search Anywhere" application that launches to search the web, %20 is placed instead of spaces, for example:
I type in: Desire HD XDA
In google results, it would show: Desire%20HD%20XDA
And it does affect the results, I get weird pages when that shows up, and I end up having to fix it by editing what the search bar shows is written on the google mobile website, or by just using the Internet app to google search instead of using the search button.
The thing is, very rarely, it does search correctly, without adding the %20 in between spaces, so I'm not sure what causes it
Thanks again for your time.
Anyone else know of this?

I have the same problem. Unlocked stock TELUS DHD.
I can hardly wait for a working stock AOSP ROM without Sense.
No, I love sense. I prefer it over aosp. I just want this search issue fixed and I'm happy.

I would love to get rid of searchanywhere and replace it with a simple google search box. Hope someone can work it out.
+1
Tried editing the .kl files for key 217 but still no success.
Hello. This is my first post here, since unfortunatelly i couldn't find an answer on this one anywhere on the web, but still could just have used wrong keywords- sorry, if it had already been solved here. Is there any way to set an automatic action on keyboard opening? My friend asked me if he can make his go sms launch, when he opens the keyboard. Thank you for your help.

Maybe look into the tasker app? Unfortunately it costs money but if I remember correctly it had a trial version so you can check to see

Your friend might have been using a 3rd party app to open the sms. Or he might of just open the keyboard and hit one of the shortcut buttons to open sms
Thank you, my firend will check it later, but it should do
Hi guys, I'm having an issue when selecting the "search" shortcut on my ring pad, the phone shuts to sleep as if I locked the device (the other shortcut on the ring pad works fine)
I might have deleted something I wasn't supposed to when I was manually de-bloating apps. I still have the google now app, voice search, and google + all installed and working fine so I'm not so sure if this search function is from Google or an LG Search app that I may have deleted.
Can anyone confirm please, and if you have the apk's I would appreciate a copy please
Thanks in advance!

FYI its best to just freeze apps rather than delete them when you debloat, it has the same effect but is far easier to restore things when you realise something has gone wrong (plus you can quickly see what apps you have removed).

I found this thread during a google search of the same problem I found out that freezing or uninstalling voice mate removes the left most icon on the ring pad, hopefully this'll help OP
