After doing with the PERM ROOT, i did reboot my G2 with volume down+power, "s-off" shows on the screen, but something just happened.
after rebooting, i just uninstall VISIONary, then i rebooted my G2 again, to make sure, i did volume down+power again. Good, s-off is still there. When i came into the home screen, i pressed the Root Explorer, oooooops, i got no root access to open this software....
To check this, i re-install VISIONary, --root now---"your device is already rooted".
All in all, i have the "s-off", but i have no root access.
Help!!!
A big thanks here and looking for some one would like to answer me.
Install Superuser (from ChainDD) and make sure it allows access for your root explorer. Also, try the steps again to get S-Off. After you do the 'sync' command, do a reboot back to your home screen (not bootloader) to see if the changes stick.
And don't start a new thread. Post in the old one.
Make sure Visionary is not set to "Root on Boot".
Reboot the phone and run Visionary again.
Make sure you have the newest version of visionary. Run it to root, open terminal emulator type in "SU" then type "sync" wait two minutes. reboot the phone.
You don't need visionary after you get pern root. I don't have it anymore. If you followed the guide then you should be golden.

Then you'll need to visit the VISIONary thread and download it from there. It was suspended from the Android Market.
Try to do the stock PC10.img to start all over and just go thru the steps.

Well I had the r12 version. Tried the temproot (checked for su and it was there.) and then permroot (the phone forced a reset) when it came back on, there was no root. So I decided to go manually. Followed all instructions here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833965. Did Everything exactly besides step 6. Well I did it but it said that I already had root. So i proceeded with step 7 and waited five minutes (just to be sure) and then restarted. Checked and confirmed that s-off. Powered on the phone and still no root access. I figured that step 6 may have thrown me off so i tried step 6 and 7 again to no avail. Stuck with s-off but no root.
I had perma-root yesterday. Working and tested... mui happy.
Got OTA update late last night (Southeast US / Tampabay FL). Accepted it like a dumbass.
Currently:
Phone works... I didn't get "teh brix".
VISIONARY tells me "your device is already rooted"
SuperUser has my Root-apps listed with green radio buttons.
su from terminal results in permission denied
screenshot will no-longer run (This program requires root access)
Recovery Boot = S-OFF
Confused = Yes, very
Can't re-root as visionary won't really run properly. Uninstalled Visionary and installed Visionary+. Still says "Your device is already rooted".
S-off no boot fix?
So to reply to my own thread once I've gone through all of the steps repeatedly, I wound up with s-off and no root. even after running visionary+ temp root and then entering (in terminal emulator on the phone) su (granted superuser) and then typing sync and then reboot. Did this over and over again with the same result but to get it to work(for me anyways) i had to run temproot, and then run permroot and then reboot. Mind you, I have already done this step before but it didnt seem to work until afterwards. Hopes that this helps SOMEONE.
For people facing a similar issue, use the RATC method instead of VISIONary, you should get perm root then.
I had the same issue I followed unforgiven's instructions
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833965
after step 7 and you reboot run visionary again and you should gain perm root, hope this helps.

hi to all master, boss, pro, hacker, mods, etc.!
i am new here and newbie in android world. im planning to buy a wildfire froyo 2.2 by the end of the month and my question is, is this compatible to root? thanks!
i hope you give me a good answer.
and respect my post.
**sorry for my bad english.
I just answered this question by you in another thread. Was it necessary to create another one?
Anyway, here you go
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12088177&postcount=112
Hope this clears your doubts.
If you were nice and readed the TON of posts with this question, you'd probably knew the answer already.
Wildfire Froyo is not rootable yet, at least not with any software.
The only way at the moment is XTC Clip which costs $150+ and may not be available in your country.
Just be patient and wait for the Unrevoked team. They will release it when the time comes.
Hope you have the answer now.
Regards,
Adrian
Wildfire froyo ROOT***
"REQUIRE S-OFF can be achieved only by an XTC clip
After a fruitfull search i found that this is the only method currently available for rooting wildfire.
First of all let me say I'm not the developer of this steps..
To do the rooting you must have your Wildfire with S-OFF, HBOOT 1.02.0002 and Android 2.2.1 . You can check it by booting into HBOOT (power on your phone by holding the VOLUME DOWN + POWER button) .This method is strictly for the 2.2.1 owners. How you can turn the S-OFF is your headache, you can try the alpharev (ask the team if they can get you a 2.0 test version... ) or you can wait for Unrevoked 3.33 or you can straight off go to market and hunt for XTC clip. Either way, try it and don't attempt to anything before you get S-OFF. Actually the notorious S-ON flag is the cause rooting wildfire is such a pain in the a**.
What I have to correct is "The only way to keep S-OFF is using an XTC clip (as i did) there is no version of alpha rev available for wildfire yet and unrevoked 3.33 is also not available.."
If you are successful in keeping S-OFF kindly follow this steps........
I used to have this
and I converted it into this
or this =)
Anyways, here is how you can root HTC wildfire 2.2.1 and get htc wildfire Android 2.3
What you need ?
HTC wildfire with S-OFF , HBOOT 1.01.0002 , OS Froyo 2.2.1
USB Drivers (http://www.feedblitz.com/t2.asp?/375...usb-driver.zip)
RUU Rom 2.1 / RUU_Buzz_HTC_WWE_1.14.405.2_R_Radio_13.45.55.24_3. 35.15.31_release_130814_signed (http://www.feedblitz.com/t2.asp?/375...814_signed.exe)
Unrevoked 3.2 Test version (http://www.feedblitz.com/t2.asp?/375...-2-Windoze.exe)
Cyanogenmod 7 (http://www.feedblitz.com/t2.asp?/375...uzz-signed.zip) and Google Apps (http://www.feedblitz.com/t2.asp?/375...307-signed.zip)

I am not responsible if your phone gets bricked, by following the process you are voiding your warranty and significant damage may be caused to your device.
Its all for educational purposes only, if you are dumb enough to screw somewhere then I will be the one who will be laughing at you.
Software are unpredictable in nature, one may/may not act as predicted especially in case of rooting (personal experience). Hence my friend, tread carefully.
in short,
I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR STUPIDITY.
Step 1 - Installing the USB drivers
Download USB drivers and extract them on desktop. Turn off your wildfire and boot into HBOOT by holding the VOLUME DOWN + POWER button. Connect your phone to your PC and it will show "drivers installing" or similar there for Android device. When prompted , install the drivers by going to device manager and browsing to the folder where you extracted the drivers. Once installed, disconnect and reboot your phone normally.
Now you need to install the Android bootloader interface. Connect it to your HTC wildfire to the PC and it will ask for drivers again, now go to device manager, click on unknown device,
click on update driver -> install from specific location -> No i will choose to install -> choose Android phone and click on adb interface -> click next -> when asked to install click on continue anyway, just install them.
Once done you will see your phone recognized as "Android bootloader interface". Now disconnect your phone and go into
settings -> applications - > development - > enable USB Debugging.
Congratulations, the first step is complete.
Step 2 - Downgrading from Android 2.2.1 Froyo to Android 2.1 Eclair
Download the RUU rom which is an original stock rom. Plug your phone into the PC and set it to "Charge through USB". Double click RUU rom .exe. Follow the on screen instructions and then let it install. Your phone will reboot into stock HTC 2.1 This will be the last time you will be seeing it though.
The HBOOT version will be now 0.80.0002 (check it by powering on your phone by holding the VOLUME DOWN + POWER button) Once done disconnect your phone.
Step 3 - Gaining root using UnrEVOked , get clockworkmod and set your phone free
Download the test version of unrevoked. Let me repeat, DO NOT USE UNREVOKED 3.32 as it will lead to CID errors or to be precise this error
"validation error backup cid is missing"
This may be caused as the 3.32 doesnot support HBOOT 0.82.0002. Hence You need specific test version of Unrevoked 3.2 to do the job. Download it, save it on desktop, and run it. Now connect your phone and the rooting will start. Once donw, you will have Clockworkmod recovery installed on your phone. Reboot your phone now (using the VOLUME UP/DOWN key for navigation and clicking using TRACKBALL, the POWER button takes you back in menus). Once rebooted, you will see the superuserapp in your phone and congratulations, your phone is successfully rooted
Step 4 - Installing Cyanogenmod 7 or Android Gingerbread 2.3.3
Download the Cyanogenmod 7 with google apps and save it on desktop, connect your phone as USB diskdrive and transfer both zip files on SD card. Once done, reboot your phone into ClockworkMod Recovery (booting by holding the VOLUME DOWN + POWER button and clicking on recovery)
Once the device boots into the ClockworkMod Recovery, use the side VOLUME buttons to move around, and either the POWER button or the TRACKBALL to select.
Select the option to Wipe data/factory reset.
Then select the option to Wipe cache partition.
Select Install zip from sdcard.
Select Choose zip from sdcard.
choose update-cm-7.0.0-buzz-signed.zip & Let it install.
Once done, Select Install zip from sdcard.
Select Choose zip from sdcard, choose gapps-gb-20110307-signed.zip
Once the installation has finished, to get back to the main menu by clicking the POWER button and select the Reboot system now option.
Congrats..The HTC Wildfire should now boot into CyanogenMod.
Enjoy Android 2.3.3

Maybe a dumb question, but when I rooted my Evo back in April, I can't for the life of me remember what root method I used, thus making it difficult to know how to unroot, I think? I can't reference the files on my pc I used to do it cause that one died. How do I tell what unroot method I need to use? I am rooted running Fresh and am currently s-off.
Thanks!
The rooting only work for 2.2, as no root for 2.3, and unrooting, it works, but you need to be on the 2.15.00.11.19 radio.
Rooting
1. http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.p...driver_install ; Download the hboot drivers needed for rooting. The instructions are also there of how to install them, straight forward.
2. Download unrevoked3 > http://unrevoked.com/recovery/ ; It will show up as reflash_package on your desktop; leave it alone for now
3. On your phone from a home screen: menu > settings > applications > development and make sure usb debugging is checked; needed so that unrevoked can find the phone; never turn this off
4. http://www.htc.com/us/support/evo-sprint/downloads/ ; Download htc sync and install it. After that, uninstall the program from your computer ; you only need the drivers from it.
5. On your phone, connect the to the pc in CHARGE ONLY, do not mount as a disk, ect, has to be charge only
6. On the desktop, run unrevoked [reflash_package], accept the disclaimer, blah blah
7. Just sit your phone down and let it do its thing. It'll take about 5 minutes, and the phone will reboot twice. Once its done, it'll say done. You can open your app drawer and you'll see an app that says superuser, and then you're done.
IF unrevoked tells you 'is your firmware too new?' boot into the bootloader [while turning the phone on, hold vol+down till you see a white screen with androids skateboarding.] Use the volume keys to navigate after the scan completes to clear storage [a factory reset, data will be lost] and then use the power button to select it, then repeat step #6.
To tether, you can flash a custom rom of your choosing after you've browsed, and then use the built in hot spot, or download wireless tether from the market, more later after you root.
Unrooting
1. http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/forever ; Scroll down to the FAQs, then download the unrevoked s-on zip. This places the security back on your phone, because rooting makes it s-off, and if s-on, quickest way to tell your phone was rooted.
2. Flash that file from recovery, then boot back into the bootloader [vol+down while turning phone on] and verify until its s-on.
3. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/19699565/3.70 RUU Zip.zip ; rename that file to PC36IMG, place on the root of your sdcard [not in a folder] then flash it in the bootloader. When the scan that normally does nothing, it'll detect that file. Apply the update then reboot. That's a stock 3.70 firmware file, it'll take you back to stock, unrooted, s-on.
Awesome! Thanks a million! About how long does it take to run through everything? My phone has been randomly shuttting off and I don't want to risk bricking it.

As now we can unlock Wildfire S Bootloader I tried some ways to permanently root this device.

You either need an S-OFF device OR an S-ON device with unlocked bootloader

There is a VERY EASY way to root WFS now. I take no credits in writing any stuff related to rooting that, I just want to show how you can easily root the WFS and give newbies a first station to come to.
Please come here, and download HTC Supertools by frigid, give him a million thanks, download tools and run the supertools.

1) Press 1 (Prep (using zergRush CREDITS to Revolutionary)) and Enter, zerg rush is now run
2) Press 3 (Attempt Perm Root (Must prep first)) and Enter, now the device will get rooted
3) type reboot and Enter to reboot your device.
Afterwards your WFS will be permanently rooted.
If you stuck rooting the device try this:
1) Press 2 and Enter, instead of 1
2) Press 3 (Attempt Perm Root (Must prep first)) and Enter, now the device will get rooted
3) type reboot and Enter to reboot your device.
I tested it with European latest Stock Rom 2.3.5 and HTC-Dev unlocked bootloader. I can confirm that a file could be copied to /system, then I rebooted again and the file was still there.

It works with all S-OFFed phones and with all htc-dev bootloader unlocked phones. So either S-OFF with XTC-Clip or unlock bootloader at htc-dev.com.
However, there seems to be a problem unlocking US T-Mobile Roms bc there is no RUU yet to update hboot.
If rom manager works I don't know. I just tested permanent rooting
The unlocked bootloader method to root WFS
Th method given by HTC to unlock bootloaders does not allow a user to flash a custom ROM. So I guess S-OFF is still required. I have been testing it myself from past 8 hours now. If there is any other method then please do let me know.

It does allow custom roms. I read from a user he installed cm7 with s-on.
allowing custom roms is the sense of bootloader unlocking
Well, I have tried th direct flashing method by placing the file into the root of SD card and the Manager method. Both seem to show the same output, an image showing nothing but error note.

@theq86 I have been trying the same from past several hours, but I don't seem to find any positive hope.... I would be really thankful if u can help me in finding that methos using which one can flash a custom ROM with S-ON on WFS
well, sorry for asking but:
you surely did the bootloader unlocking process until the end, and your hboot says "UNLOCKED"?
For flashing roms please better refer to eoghan for I have not much experience.
Edit:
have you tried flashing via fastboot, too?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21104317&postcount=76
Well, rather than following any other methods given, I preferred to follow HTC's given method to unlock bootloader. I have seen it thoroughly and yes I hav access to root as well. Some root required apps are also running. But the main reason to unlock the bootloader was to overclock my phone's processor, which could not be done on the stock ROM of HTC. Hence I tried to flash CM7.0.2 and jikantaru's ROM as well, which he claimed to have made the stock ROM with sense allowed the overclocking.
If you still can find a better way to flash ROMs with S-ON, then we all would be greatfull to that user....
I updated main post, there is a link to the developers section. eoghan has made an easy installer for CWM, so that would make it very easy to install CM

I have a few questions regarding this and it is probably all common android knowledge but I am new to this so here we go,
First of all by turning it off would it allow me to remove default applications? (I am having trouble both with terminal and a root explorer to remove default apps, and am assuming it is because of S-On)
Secondly is there a method to achieve S-Off that isn't a bootable file? Both methods I have found require me to do this but the BIOS of the Laptop I am using now doesn't support usb booting and doesn't have a cd writer, I am stuck with this garbage untill I can replace my motherboard on my linux/win7 machine.
Lastly if there isn't a method to achieve S-Off without a bootable file, should I just use a VM? Are there any known issues with doing this?

Go to revolutionary.io and read everything carefully. After that it's easy. After gaining S-off, flash custom recovery, then the zip (middle of FAQ page) to get root. Afterwards you can use either Titanium Backup or MyBackup to remove or freeze unnecessary apps. Good luck.

I have a few questions regarding this and it is probably all common android knowledge but I am new to this so here we go,
First of all by turning it off would it allow me to remove default applications? (I am having trouble both with terminal and a root explorer to remove default apps, and am assuming it is because of S-On)

S-OFF means to flash switch nand protection off for flashing radio, recovery, hboot (partition layout) etc
revolutionary.io
no bootable cd/usb needed
i did not use vm i can not confirm it is working properly, maybe somebody has
My device is already rooted with unrevoked but not fully which is why im trying to figure out how to do this, thank you for the link I will research further

Yes, fully. Root and s-off are different. It's easiest to be s-off and with root explorer to remove /system/apps but there are other ways, not as easy.
Or...
You could just freeze the apps with titanium backup. It hides them and stops them running.
You know deleting system/apps won't give you more space in itself though yeah?

Now you should try download and install (through recovery or android market) superuser app, it's give you access to procected files in your phone.

He is already rooted. This thread is about s-off, as per the title. Please read threads before posting your advice.
