hi to all master, boss, pro, hacker, mods, etc.!
i am new here and newbie in android world. im planning to buy a wildfire froyo 2.2 by the end of the month and my question is, is this compatible to root? thanks!
i hope you give me a good answer.
and respect my post.
**sorry for my bad english.
I just answered this question by you in another thread. Was it necessary to create another one?
Anyway, here you go
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12088177&postcount=112
Hope this clears your doubts.
If you were nice and readed the TON of posts with this question, you'd probably knew the answer already.
Wildfire Froyo is not rootable yet, at least not with any software.
The only way at the moment is XTC Clip which costs $150+ and may not be available in your country.
Just be patient and wait for the Unrevoked team. They will release it when the time comes.
Hope you have the answer now.
Regards,
Adrian
Wildfire froyo ROOT***
"REQUIRE S-OFF can be achieved only by an XTC clip
After a fruitfull search i found that this is the only method currently available for rooting wildfire.
First of all let me say I'm not the developer of this steps..
To do the rooting you must have your Wildfire with S-OFF, HBOOT 1.02.0002 and Android 2.2.1 . You can check it by booting into HBOOT (power on your phone by holding the VOLUME DOWN + POWER button) .This method is strictly for the 2.2.1 owners. How you can turn the S-OFF is your headache, you can try the alpharev (ask the team if they can get you a 2.0 test version... ) or you can wait for Unrevoked 3.33 or you can straight off go to market and hunt for XTC clip. Either way, try it and don't attempt to anything before you get S-OFF. Actually the notorious S-ON flag is the cause rooting wildfire is such a pain in the a**.
What I have to correct is "The only way to keep S-OFF is using an XTC clip (as i did) there is no version of alpha rev available for wildfire yet and unrevoked 3.33 is also not available.."
If you are successful in keeping S-OFF kindly follow this steps........
I used to have this
and I converted it into this
or this =)
Anyways, here is how you can root HTC wildfire 2.2.1 and get htc wildfire Android 2.3
What you need ?
HTC wildfire with S-OFF , HBOOT 1.01.0002 , OS Froyo 2.2.1
USB Drivers (http://www.feedblitz.com/t2.asp?/375...usb-driver.zip)
RUU Rom 2.1 / RUU_Buzz_HTC_WWE_1.14.405.2_R_Radio_13.45.55.24_3. 35.15.31_release_130814_signed (http://www.feedblitz.com/t2.asp?/375...814_signed.exe)
Unrevoked 3.2 Test version (http://www.feedblitz.com/t2.asp?/375...-2-Windoze.exe)
Cyanogenmod 7 (http://www.feedblitz.com/t2.asp?/375...uzz-signed.zip) and Google Apps (http://www.feedblitz.com/t2.asp?/375...307-signed.zip)
Time and Patience & last but not the least,

Disclaimer
I am not responsible if your phone gets bricked, by following the process you are voiding your warranty and significant damage may be caused to your device.
Its all for educational purposes only, if you are dumb enough to screw somewhere then I will be the one who will be laughing at you.
Software are unpredictable in nature, one may/may not act as predicted especially in case of rooting (personal experience). Hence my friend, tread carefully.
in short,
I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR STUPIDITY.
Step 1 - Installing the USB drivers
Download USB drivers and extract them on desktop. Turn off your wildfire and boot into HBOOT by holding the VOLUME DOWN + POWER button. Connect your phone to your PC and it will show "drivers installing" or similar there for Android device. When prompted , install the drivers by going to device manager and browsing to the folder where you extracted the drivers. Once installed, disconnect and reboot your phone normally.
Now you need to install the Android bootloader interface. Connect it to your HTC wildfire to the PC and it will ask for drivers again, now go to device manager, click on unknown device,
click on update driver -> install from specific location -> No i will choose to install -> choose Android phone and click on adb interface -> click next -> when asked to install click on continue anyway, just install them.
Once done you will see your phone recognized as "Android bootloader interface". Now disconnect your phone and go into
settings -> applications - > development - > enable USB Debugging.
Congratulations, the first step is complete.
Step 2 - Downgrading from Android 2.2.1 Froyo to Android 2.1 Eclair
Download the RUU rom which is an original stock rom. Plug your phone into the PC and set it to "Charge through USB". Double click RUU rom .exe. Follow the on screen instructions and then let it install. Your phone will reboot into stock HTC 2.1 This will be the last time you will be seeing it though.
The HBOOT version will be now 0.80.0002 (check it by powering on your phone by holding the VOLUME DOWN + POWER button) Once done disconnect your phone.
Step 3 - Gaining root using UnrEVOked , get clockworkmod and set your phone free
Download the test version of unrevoked. Let me repeat, DO NOT USE UNREVOKED 3.32 as it will lead to CID errors or to be precise this error
"validation error backup cid is missing"
This may be caused as the 3.32 doesnot support HBOOT 0.82.0002. Hence You need specific test version of Unrevoked 3.2 to do the job. Download it, save it on desktop, and run it. Now connect your phone and the rooting will start. Once donw, you will have Clockworkmod recovery installed on your phone. Reboot your phone now (using the VOLUME UP/DOWN key for navigation and clicking using TRACKBALL, the POWER button takes you back in menus). Once rebooted, you will see the superuserapp in your phone and congratulations, your phone is successfully rooted
Step 4 - Installing Cyanogenmod 7 or Android Gingerbread 2.3.3
Download the Cyanogenmod 7 with google apps and save it on desktop, connect your phone as USB diskdrive and transfer both zip files on SD card. Once done, reboot your phone into ClockworkMod Recovery (booting by holding the VOLUME DOWN + POWER button and clicking on recovery)
Once the device boots into the ClockworkMod Recovery, use the side VOLUME buttons to move around, and either the POWER button or the TRACKBALL to select.
Select the option to Wipe data/factory reset.
Then select the option to Wipe cache partition.
Select Install zip from sdcard.
Select Choose zip from sdcard.
choose update-cm-7.0.0-buzz-signed.zip & Let it install.
Once done, Select Install zip from sdcard.
Select Choose zip from sdcard, choose gapps-gb-20110307-signed.zip
Once the installation has finished, to get back to the main menu by clicking the POWER button and select the Reboot system now option.
Congrats..The HTC Wildfire should now boot into CyanogenMod.
Enjoy Android 2.3.3

One would think since they leveraging their OS on open source they would have make it a little more open and allow root access. These locks are pointless, they always get through it.
Search for (downgrade HBOOT 0.92 to 0.80 again) it can be done
Sorry cant post link im too new
I have downgraded and succesufly installed OPENDESIRE rom, but now i have problems with this rom. They stated that it support arabic (it is not, just separated caracter like official froyo). The big problem is the contacts i cannot sync my contacts . I have exported all my contacts in "WINDOWS CONTACTS" to Vcard and import them but it didn't work.
How can i unroot my phone and go back to official froyo or eclair. I didn't make a nandroid before installing opendesire.
Basically , to unroot u just install official Ruu 2.1 and then install OTA after that. U can find the appropiate Ruu in development section.
GL and happy flashing
Depending on whether or not it is debranded u might need goldcard. More info here

Universal Androot still not support,
* Samsung i9000 (Galaxy S)

* HTC Wildfire
However, the site does seem to get regular updates, so surely it is only a matter of time.

Did you make sure that it is not PB99IMG.zip.zip?
yes i was very sure it is .zip and not zip.zip, i even did dir/w from cmd to ensure the file name
How did you start the recovery ? Volum down + Power button ? This should work. I use it twice.
to restore the PB99IMG.zip i shud press the volume down + power right then when i click fastboot it will start search the pb99img file and it says not found, then go to recovery then press volume up + power it does go to recovery, when i select factory reset it still will be 2.2
oh crap, i followed the instruction from android-tutorials to make gold card and put the PB99IMG then when i press VOL up to start the process my phone shutdown immedietly, after 15 minutes nothing, so i removed battery and plug in the batt again, now when i power on it vibrate but totally blank, no tone no lights nothing
PLEASE HELP :-(
I rooted my phone using the now close How to root Android 2.2 on the EVO 4G Outdated with clockworkmod and then updated the to 3.30.651.2, now I am looking to remove root from the phone because I am selling it and the buyer does not want the phone rooted (warranty and such) and I have not been able to find a method that work. So after searching here and other forums I posted to ask hoping that someone had the answer to my dilemma. Can someone please point me in the right direction and help me restore the phone to factory i/e un-root the phone?
NOTE: I searched this forum as well as others looking for the answer with negative results.

Thread moved to Q&A.
First check to see if you are S-On or S-Off.
Go into bootloader. Power off > Hold volume down + hold the power button till you see a white screen with skateboarding androids.
Check at the top to see if it says S-On or S-off.
If it says S-off you have to first get it to say S-On.
Reboot the phone. Enable USB Debugging. Menu > Settings > Applications > Development > USB Debugging.
Download Unrevoked's S-on tool here and transfer it to your SD Card.
http://downloads.unrevoked.com/forever/current/unrevoked-forever-son.zip
Go into your recovery and flash that. Reboot and then go back into bootloader to make sure you have S-on now.
Then you want to run the Official RUU. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE HTC SYNC INSTALLED AND USB DEBUGGING ON.
Then run the RUU. Follow the instructions.

This brought me back to full stock.
I did this yesterday and brought my phone in to get it replaced (cause I lost my RSA keys and hence 4G). Got my replacement in today. So it works for warranty.
Note that this is 3.29. 3.30 is a leaked ROM so for Sprint's purposes, 3.29 is the official release.
Hi,
soon, I will get my ordered HTC Desire from Amazon Germany. Hope it's not a Desire with Hboot Version > 0.92. Amazon descriped it as an Android 2.1 version. Is it possible that Android 2.1 comes with a non rootable bootloader > 0.93, worst case version 1.06 ?
For example. Hope I will get a Desire with a 0.92 Hboot and root it successfully, what will happen when the phone is rebooting. Is it updating automatically to Android 2.2 after it get connected and maybe lost the root access. Have read about this in some boards.
I think I have to flash a custom rom after rooting the device before I go online? Maybe these questions are stupid but I need to know the right steps to get the full potential out of my new phone.
Which custom rom is preferable? LeeDrOiD V3.0.2, CyanogenMod-7 ..?
Thank you in advance

I got a Desire with HBOOT 0.93, I can assure you it is completely rootable, I rooted with unrEVOked and the 1st ROM I tried was StarBurst, very awesome ROM.
I assume you want a gingerbread ROM, thus your asking for a deciding factor between CyanogenMod7 Or LeeDrOid 3.0.2, my advice is this if you like Sense UI, LeeDrOid if you don’t CyanogenMod7.
Check out Desire Android Development and check out the other options available.
Hope This Helps
1.06? Where did that come from? As far as I'm aware at least the bootloader only goes up to 0.93.1 which is prob rootable and S-Offable. If you do have a stupid bootloader, just use an RUU then root but I doubt you will have to worry about it. You will be fine. All you need to do is you can update from Eclair to Froyo and then root, it does not matter at all. Also, when I got my phone with Eclair, it came with bootloader 0.80.
You are worrying for no reason. All you need is to just download Unrevoked, the lastest one (if that doesn't work get the previous version). Don't forget the drivers either if your on Windows
1.06 bootloaders are only on CDMA Desires, not GSM. So far, all GSM Desires are rootable.
Is there a way to root with a 1.06 bootloader?

That's my fear that I could get a Desire Phone from the stock that has this 1.06 bootloader. I read about it in some other forums that Desires are delivered with this newer bootloader, maybe htc did that to prevent (for a while) such rooting and flashing custom roms?
My Desire is on way now, hope I will get a rootable device tomorrow. As far as I know, I need to do the following
1. Unrevoke the Desire with linux or windows. I use linux.
2. Load a custom rom
How can I backup the entire image that comes out of the box before I start to root the desire ?

You don't need to worry to receive CMDA Desire with 1.06 unless you are from the USA If you are from Europe you should deffinitely be ok
And you don't need to backup too, you can later flash official RUUs, the original Desire firmware...you can however use the nandroid backup once you root your phone, to backup your current rom if you deceide to test a new one
I'm relieved to hear that. I've only one question about the roms. I want to flash a fast and stable rom that don't need app2sd to move application to the sd card. I think it's integrated in rom version > 2.1 (froyo) ?

IMO, you shouldn't even be thinking about rooting until you know what you're doing. Sounds like you don't know a lot about Android at present so read a lot and ONLY ASK QUESTIONS IF YOU CAN'T FIND AN ANSWER. Chances are everything you will need to ask has already been answered
Just enjoy the phone first and worry about the rest later

I have the same HBoot and am rooted
You've not got full root or else it would be S-Off. Have you flashed a recovery? Easiest way to get a nandroid back up. Either AmonRa 2.0.1 or CWM 2.5.1.8 (I think, other earlier version don't work with your HBoot, and stay away from 3.0.0.5 for now). Then you need to alpharev to get S-Off. Troll the forum you can find all this info, but you do have to go cautiously with this HBoot, only specific methods work imo.
AmonRa 2.0.1 | PVT4 40000 S-Off Alpharev 1.8| HBoot 0.93.1000 | Radio 5.17.05.08 | LeeDroid 3.0.2 (A2SD) | HTC Desire A8181 | UOT Kitchen Mods
Hi ghalalb,
now, I successful restored the nandroid backup with the installed clockwork mod 2.5.0.7. Vol - and Powerbutton, switch to Recovery, then clockwork mod came up .. restore, reboot, ok.
The Desire is alive. Is it real rooted (or not ) ? Thats the question ? The supervisor icon is available. First, I saved the content from the original sd card with (clockwork mod an backups), then partitioned the card with gparted to 2,2 GB fat32, 1,5 ext4 and restored the content back to the fat32 partition.
What now ? Is it not possible to flash a custom rom like clock hd-v10 with the installed clockwork mod ? Do I need to change the clockwork mod with AmonRa 2.0.1 ? The nandroid backups are not compatible with the AmonRa tool !
If something goes wrong, a restore of the old clockwork mod backups is not possible. I don't know what I have to do now. I don't want to make a mistake that is not reversible.
Regards
Frank
Hi Frank
You seem to be confusing your self as you don’t really know much about what your getting your self into. If you root your device with unrEVOked it should by default install clockwork recovery, once this is installed you don’t need Amon RA as a recovery as clockwork does the same thing and it is merely a matter of preference. Clockwork recovery backups cant be restored with Amon RA and vice versa. I am using clockwork recovery and I flash a new ROM every 3 to 4 days just to try different things and to see which ROM does what I need it to do. I usually end up back on ReflexTSense as I feel this ROM suits my user needs.
You seem to be getting used to using recovery and flashing ROM’s, you can use clockwork to flash any ROM. You have partitioned your card correctly and for apps to SD so now all you need to do is flash a ROM.
I recommend you try AuraxTSense as a first ROM, its very stable and blazing fast.
After you download the ROM put it in the root of your SD, the root of you SD means, not in a folder just in the SD when you double click on the removeable disc/SD in my computer (don’t know what its called in linux) that is the root of the SD. Once that is does, reboot your device into recovery, make a nandroid backup of your current working ROM.
Then follow the steps
• Go to wipe data/factory reset – select using trackball and let it do its thing
• Go to install zip from sdcard – select using trackball
• Go to toggle signature verification – select using trackball – NOTE: on your screen it should say “Signature Check: Disabled – If its says enabled make sure it says Disabled
• Go to choose zip from sdcard – select using trackball
• Go to AuraxTSense – select using trackball
Now its going to install the ROM and once its done its going to bring you back to a screen that says “reboot system now” - select using trackball. Don’t worry about installing the latest radio as your phone came with it installed.
Your phone should reboot and the ROM will now install and this take 5 to 12 mins before its complete if not just be patient, you know it has been a success when you get the white hTC screen with the with the green hTC logo followed by a white hTC screen with green dots that says “hTC quietly brilliant” in black it will sit on that screen for a while and the screen will go dull. When it is done the screen with go bright and boot into Android.
I hope this helps you to get your 1st ROM installed and running, I’ll check back every now and again and post your progress as I am committing my self to help you through this.
i am also going to buy a Desire, i would like to root it. so any hboot or android version should i be aware of? what should i look out for?
i am new in android so pardon my noob question.
Hi Friends,
Infact i am new to android so i am facing many difficulties and i read lot of posts but realy dont understand how i start playing wth android.
When i try to enter in recovery mode by shutdown and by pressing both power and down volume button but nothing happened. after releasing these buttons it directly go to nomal boot and power on.
i have htc desire, with android 2.3.3 , 8gb sd
some other problems
internal memory is very low,
what i should do to fix these issues.
i am new please tell me in detail and step by step.
thanks
is there anyone who will help me.....
Hi
The trick to enter the bootloader is to press ONLY the volume down key, then start the phone. In bootloader, you have to pick recovery, press the power button and *booom*, you're in the recovery ;-)
And for you to ask a step by step process & so forth would be a bit impossible at the moment.....[unless somebody is really willing to help you out]...There's your Search functionality...maximize it.....just as long as you know what you need to know then search will always be there for you.....most of the solutions these days are here already,,,you just need to be clever enough in providing the right keyword when you search....you can pretty much try googling for a solution as well......
When all else fails.....that's the time you ask for Help......I can somehow help you out on some queries but on my free time buddy.
Cheers...
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks

What rom you running, what hboot etc... if you provide some more info it will be better to get some info...
Did you untick fastboot mode in settings?
do you have an ext partition?
I know that problem. Some ROMs (like InsertCoin) doesn't shutdown properly so they can restart very quickly. The trick is to remove the battery for about 10 seconds and then try again with Power + Vol down.

"Cool3D RunnyMede v6" is ok, it have sense 3.5 and if its will not work in desire then recomend me other which you like. after learning i will try different.
When you talk about low memory, you mean for apps?
I had this problem back when I had a desire. The best solution I found for this was using a ROM with A2SD or A2SD+, which effectivley 'extends' the memory area for apps into your SD card.
Signal problems can be caused by a variety of things, but (again form my own experience) it can take a while to get a ROM, kernel, and Radio that work perfectly. That said, it shouldnt be hard to get together a set that works.
Are you rooted?
Are you looking to put a custom ROM on your phone?

Signal problems can be caused by a variety of things, but (again form my own experience) it can take a while to get a ROM, kernel, and Radio that work perfectly. That said, it shouldnt be hard to get together a set that works.
Are you rooted?
Are you looking to put a custom ROM on your phone?

It's probably best to start with rooting. There are many guides which already exist, here on XDA and outside on the big wide google. One particular method though is the one which I used, unrEVOked. It works pretty well. A good duide on the method is here.

It's a tool used for rooting many different HTC devices. It's fairly easy to use, like a one-click solution.
run revolutionary that should you s-off then flash your recovery (check my signature)...
Unrevoked is method to get root but you mentioned s-off revolutionary is the best option because alpharev is older method (0.93 hboot)

Hello all in this forum. I am new here, and i have decided to register to ask a question (since i cannot answer my doubt with what i found here in the forum).
The thing is:
I have an HTC Desire (GSM). I have followed the most common steps found in the web to try to install cyanogen mod into my HTC.
In the beggining i had android version 2.2.
At first i could not even do that thing with the power button + volume down to enter in a strange white menu. I downloaded some stuff (like it says in wikipedia page about HTC desire and Cyanogen mod). I do not really know what i have done with my cell phone but:
- now, i can enter in that strange white menu (power + vol down);
- my htc desire was updated to android 2.3.7.
But i could not install cyanogen mod.
What i aks from you guys is:
if you could, post here all the steps that i should do to install cyanogen mod in my HTC, please.
Explain it like it was for a dummie ( i believe i am in this kind of stuff).
At the moment it is all working right and android version is 2.3.7.
I thank you all for the attention,
André

the only way you can get android 2.3.7 is via a custom rom unless you are on a different device
are you sure you are not on desire S
i want to find out more about this device before i give you info as if i give you the wrong information it can brick your device.
please take a screenshot of the android version please and upload it.
if you dont know how to do that, please take a photo of the device on that page and upload it.
it makes no sense
i am so sorry. you guys are right. i have android version 2.3.3.
i should have looked better.... anyway...
by reading my previous posts, can you guys help me?
thanks for attention
if you are on android 2.3.3 and previously you were on 2.2 then you must of flashed the RUU update for offical htc 2.3.3 sense for desire
the only way to root this device or flash another rom is to s-off the device using revolutionary at http://revolutionary.io
once s-off you can flash a recovery and then put cm on the sdcard and install it
sorry, but as i told you before, i believe that my htc is already s-off.
when i hold power button and volume down, and enter in that white menu with small letters, i see: IN
revolutionary
bravo PVT4 SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-6.93.1002
(some other things)
HBOOT
(no options, just indications how to move cursor)
the last thing i see is 4 options: fastboot; recovery; clear storage; simlock
so... do i still have to s-off my htc? or it is already s-off?

You are now s-off. Next you must fastboot flash the recovery image of your choice. Once you have recovery you can flash roms. I realloy recommend reading some FAQ's before you go ANY further!!!
