Hi Friends,
Infact i am new to android so i am facing many difficulties and i read lot of posts but realy dont understand how i start playing wth android.
When i try to enter in recovery mode by shutdown and by pressing both power and down volume button but nothing happened. after releasing these buttons it directly go to nomal boot and power on.
i have htc desire, with android 2.3.3 , 8gb sd
some other problems
internal memory is very low,
what i should do to fix these issues.
i am new please tell me in detail and step by step.
thanks
is there anyone who will help me.....
Hi
The trick to enter the bootloader is to press ONLY the volume down key, then start the phone. In bootloader, you have to pick recovery, press the power button and *booom*, you're in the recovery ;-)
And for you to ask a step by step process & so forth would be a bit impossible at the moment.....[unless somebody is really willing to help you out]...There's your Search functionality...maximize it.....just as long as you know what you need to know then search will always be there for you.....most of the solutions these days are here already,,,you just need to be clever enough in providing the right keyword when you search....you can pretty much try googling for a solution as well......
When all else fails.....that's the time you ask for Help......I can somehow help you out on some queries but on my free time buddy.
Cheers...
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A
What rom you running, what hboot etc... if you provide some more info it will be better to get some info...
Did you untick fastboot mode in settings?
do you have an ext partition?
I know that problem. Some ROMs (like InsertCoin) doesn't shutdown properly so they can restart very quickly. The trick is to remove the battery for about 10 seconds and then try again with Power + Vol down.

Thanks dear friend. first of all i think
"Cool3D RunnyMede v6" is ok, it have sense 3.5 and if its will not work in desire then recomend me other which you like. after learning i will try different.
When you talk about low memory, you mean for apps?
I had this problem back when I had a desire. The best solution I found for this was using a ROM with A2SD or A2SD+, which effectivley 'extends' the memory area for apps into your SD card.
Signal problems can be caused by a variety of things, but (again form my own experience) it can take a while to get a ROM, kernel, and Radio that work perfectly. That said, it shouldnt be hard to get together a set that works.
Are you rooted?
Are you looking to put a custom ROM on your phone?

It's probably best to start with rooting. There are many guides which already exist, here on XDA and outside on the big wide google. One particular method though is the one which I used, unrEVOked. It works pretty well. A good duide on the method is here.

It's a tool used for rooting many different HTC devices. It's fairly easy to use, like a one-click solution.
run revolutionary that should you s-off then flash your recovery (check my signature)...
Unrevoked is method to get root but you mentioned s-off revolutionary is the best option because alpharev is older method (0.93 hboot)

i have installed the gingerbread keyboard file on my sd card and have rooted my phone using the visonary method but now i cant seem to get into recovery mode. I have rom manager installed and have flashed clockwork recovery mode. it said that it had sucsessfully installed.
I then flashed it again as i read somewhere that i might need to do it twice as sometimes it dosent work.
when i now click on the recovery option in rom manager all i get is the red triange with the ! in the middle.
any ideas what im doing wrong?
Have tried reading the threads but with 30 plus pages i am now completley confused
Sounds like you don't have S-OFF. What does it say in HBOOT (e.g. hold down volume down and the power button with the phone powered off) ?

It's a bit confusing because there is more than one way to do this. But by far the safest way is to follow the guide at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=857390
Have a good read, then if you're not sure, ask questions in that thread on the process.

S-OFF is a completely different animal. Don't get it confused with being able to boot into recovery.

I didn't think you could flash recovery without S-OFF though ? Surely ROM Manager doesn't have the ability to write to the NAND, since the write protection will be on if you're at S-ON ?

Again. S-OFF is a different issue altogether. Being able to write to NAND is a part of the rooting process. Setting security off is not a part of the rooting process. It's a totally different process for a totally different purpose. The caveat would be if unrevoked has been revised to full root and set S-OFF during the same process. I haven't used it in awhile so on that point, I'm not certain.

Sorry but that's not right for the DZ/G2. I wonder if you're thinking of how it works on a different Android phone ? The security has been increased on the DZ/G2/DHD compared to, say, the original Desire.
Writing to the system and recovery partitions isn't possible until you get S-OFF. This has nothing to do with rooting, it it because of the increased security on these phones where the NAND is in a hardware write-protect mode for those partitions by default. You can appear to write to the partitions, but it's actually going to cache and is lost when you reboot, until you get S-OFF.

Actually yes. S-OFF on the EVO is to make sure no matter what, you're always rooted. It came about after the new stock flash would unroot the phone. With S-OFF active, you can flash any stock rom and not lose root. All you would need to do is reflash RA or Clockwork to get back to recovery and flash roms again. Unrevoked forever is the program we used to change the security setting.
So. That is only true for the EVO?

yeah I think so.
The new HTC Desire Z and HD had "better" security from htc, basically you can't write anything to nand (/system) until you perma rooted, even then some things such as recovery needed s-off before we could write to that partition.
im going to have to give up on this
i have tried to follow the guide to get s-off but i find it too complicated. I have my phone rooted with visionary but i think thats as far as im going to get.
tried to install the adb thing and get that working but it never recognises the phone. when i remove the drivers and plug it back in then windows automatically installs the drivers again so i never have the option to manually instll them.
this is just becoming a nightmare
someone make it simple for me please....the thread is pages and pages long and even then it seems there are problems

Have you tried my guide on adb ? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865685
OK, I can use some help too
I have a DZ with stock ROM, root and s-off and CWR.
In my enthusiasm that I knew how to flash rom updates with clockwork (I am running the Godspeed 1Ghz) I downloaded the Gingerbread keyboard rom update from the G2 forum. I think I jumped off a bit too fast...
And now I am stuck in an infinite boot loop. I can get into Clockwork recovery but it just loops the "HTC Quietly Brilliant" forever including the annoying boot sound...
I tried some suggestions to download and reflash a second time, no effect.
I tried to mount /system before flashing, no effect.
Am I forced to go back to factory now?
Also, I found 2 gingerbread keyboards, one in the G2 forum and one over here.
Anyone know what the difference is? They have a different filesize..
Any help is welcome...
*edit*
OK so now I read that it is only to be flashed on a non-stock ROM... so I am now flashing Cyanogen 6.1
try wiping all the caches...

S'alright.
HTC really ramped up the security on these new phones, as Lenny said, with this hardware write-protection on certain partitions. But even given that, I was amazed by just how quickly the guys on the #G2ROOT IRC channel, especially Scotty2, managed to crack it !
It also looks like they've opened the phone even wider than many others before, with the "true" radio S-OFF that they achieved.
You can read up all about it in the Wiki - http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Vision
Hi guys I'm trying to s-off using alpharev ISO disc...it goes through the process then after rebooting stage 3 I get 4 lines that say unary operator expected ... I shut down pc and phone boots as usual...
I'm running rxmix s v1.1
maybe change to stock ROM and try s-off again
Yes like the post above switch to a ROOTED stock froyo rom worked for me, the reason your getting errors is because the rom you are running has probably got data2whatever, data++ ect... this affects the alpha rev process.
Ditto above. Alpharev doesn't work on a2sd or similar ROMs... Look back a couple pages and you'll see I started a thread with the same issue. I'm on IC GB a2sd+...
Once pc is repaired, I plan to load stock Telstra RUU and try again, then re-root...

First, you better use USB stick instead of a disc, it is faster a more reliable.
Secondly, you won't be able to get s-off unless you flash either stock rom or AOSP rom ( oxygen worked for me without any problems).

Happy to hear
Hi folks. Writing this without any hope that someone is online at the moment.
I'm currently using alpharev to flash HBOOT on my htc desire. It has stucked on step 3 with two lines on phone's screen:
Aplharev SPLBOOT version 2.0
...
Normal NAND detected. Non-PVT4
and keeps hanging like that nearly an hour already.
The phone is rooted, with Clockworkmod recovery and InserCoin 2.0.1 DATA2EXT ROM installed.
Did anybody have the same behaviour while flashing HBOOT?
Should I be patient and wait for some miracle to happen?
thanks in advance.
Are you S-Off already??
use the new S-OFF utility. It's a lot quicker and easier. Just make sure you uninstall HTC Sync, or at least make sure it isn't running.

try it with the new utility.. it should work for you..
finally I've restored my previous ROM (and sh*tted a pile of bricks during this hour).
HBOOT screen says that my device is still S-ON. strange... maybe that's because of 'DATA2EXT' ROM onboard.

You won't be able to alter HBoot without S-Off...
I am not sure how the new Utility that bortak linked to works, but I know that the "old" alpharev will not S-Off if you are using A2SD/D2SD/D2EXT type ROMs. You will need to flash stock RUU (do not use latest GB update RUU!!!), or one of the AOSP ROMs, such as Oxygen, before proceeding.
Once you have S-Off, you can go back and re-root, then upgrade your HBoot etc.

I'm still wondering, why TUT-makers didn't mention this A2SD/D2SD/D2EXT ROMs inconsistency.
I think this should be written in large letters on the first line for noobs like me
Lol, you're right on that!!
If you look on alpharev site, it is mentioned in the text, but VERY small!
Requirements:
The only requirement right now is that the ROM you're running is rooted.
As techniques such as 'data2ext' have been popping up, these might disturb our finely-tuned flashing process.
Please revert to a rooted stock ROM if possible. Your /data partition is used for temporary storage of important files.

I missed it the first time also, had lots of dramas, and finally spotted that note after many frustrating hours. It should have been written in bright red, 72 cap at the top of screen!!
You need to use an a2sd Rom like lee Droid 2.5.
Alpha rev state this at start of web page using data2sd can cause problems.
Flash lee Droid 2.5 and try it again, you should be fine
Kind regards

I'm new here and a kind a noob also at all this things about rooting a phone!
I've got a Desire Bravo, and I want to root it and put a custom ROM on it, but I simply can't do it!!

copy the key it gives you on the website, then paste it into cmd. Look at my guide, it shows you how...
its easier to burn this http://alpharev.nl/alpharev.iso onto cd/dvd to get s-off
just boot up with the cd/dvd and follow on screen instructions i done mine this morning the same way its easy as long as you have drivers installed otherwise it wont do anything at all.
i had no issues with unrevoked
Might depend on which version of the HTX Desire you are using

Regards rooting and recovery, I found I could not use the UnRevoked method if i tried to flash it using the ClockworkMod recovery image. When I tried using AmonRa 2, it all worked fine.
Regards S-OFF, the "Revolutionary" method only worked for me when I had the stock HTC rom installed. It didnt seem to be compatible with any of the CyanogenMod based roms.
Hope this helps.

How is it easier to download the file, waste a CD by burning this ISO, reboot your PC, boot into alpharev, plug your phone in and let it do it's thing in contrary to:
download the file, plug in the phone, run the .exe, type in the beta key.
I have rooted my desire with unveroked but no way to put it S OFF. I tryed already almost all, but never with this sistem with the CD. I will tried this week.
I have to burn a CD or it s possible to do it with a pendrive?
I can turn it on windows or it must be linux?
Another easy way to use the Alpharev CD would be using a Virtual Machine. I had no problem with VirtualBox, which i used as i had no CD-Rs around (and there was no revolutionary yet). Worked without problems, and no reboot required.

by thew way, unrevoked didn't worked again ... although i'v made S-OFF ... but it worked with "unlock root" ... so, now it's fine with me
sorry, I've another question ...
so, i'm gonna install a new rom .. on the cyannogenmod desire guide i've seen this:
Flashing CyanogenMod
Amon_Ra's Recovery process
1- Download the latest version of CyanogenMod.
Optional: Download the Google Apps for the device.
2- Place the CyanogenMod update.zip file on the root of the SD card.
Optional: Place the Google Apps .zip on the root of the SD card also.
3- Boot into Amon_Ra's Recovery.
4- Once you enter Amon_Ra's Recovery, scroll up & down with the trackball, and the trackball button to select.
5- Select Wipe, then Wipe data/factory reset
6- Select Flash zip from sdcard.
7- Select the CyanogenMod update.zip.
Optional: Install the Google Apps by performing steps 6 & 7 again and choosing the Google Apps update.zip.
8- Once the installation has finished, select Reboot system. The HTC Desire (GSM) now should boot into CyanogenMod.
Is this only for those who already i've a custom rom and are just trying to update, or this is a good way to install my first ROM?
(sorry, i'me really a bit noob at this things xD)

from the above link u can easily root and s-off u are desire
Like many other Desire owners, I'm getting the dreaded 'Low on space' / 'Insufficient Memory' notifications on my phone. I've already tried transferring as many apps to the SD card as possible but I'm still left with just 13MB of memory. I've also cleared the internet browser cache.
What options have I got? Is there a way of getting more memory without rooting the phone? Are there different rooting methods? Which ROM should I install?
I'm running Android version 2.29.405.5 if it makes any difference.
Thanks
going s-off and rooted is probably the best way to go to get the most out of ur phone. click the "Desire - All Things Root" on my sig for more info. if ur up for it then post ur bootloader info. turn off ur phone then hold volume down + power. then tell us what does it say? pvt?? hboot ?? etc etc
and im sure every1 + me here will help u as best as they can

So are these the stages I have to go through?
1. Backup
2. Change phone to s-off
3. Root phone
4. Install ROM
5. Restore
This is my bootloader info:
Bravo PVT1 Ship S-ON
HBOOT-0.93.0001
Microp-031D
Touch Panel-Synt0101
Radio-5.11.05.27

go here follow instructions, download the revolutionay file, fill in the dropdown boxes, htc desire, 0.93xxx and s/n to generate beta key. then plug in ur phone (usb) and run the revolutionary program u downloaded, it will ask u to type in the beta key u got, type it or copy/paste then hit enter. it will ask u to install CWM recovery, type y. and then let it do its thing. before all this make sure u have all the drivers installed on ur computer for ur phone.

How do I know what drivers I need and where do I get them from? Will my phone have Android installed and be ready to use after I install the revolutionary file or is that just to s-off it?
http://androidforums.com/desire-all...ff-root-htc-desire-revolutionary-updated.html
like i said in my first post read the guide, everything u need is there. also download HTC sync then uninstall HTC sync ONLY, leaving the drivers on ur computer, also what u could do is when u run the HTC sync setup just cancel it once the drivers are installed.

you're lucky with 0.93 hboot.
Do I have to do anything to my SD card before I start the S-Off / Rooting processes? Format it? Partition it? I currently have some apps, documents and photos on it.

u will only have to partition ur sdcard when u install a custom rom, then u will have to backup ur apps and things coz it will erase everything. revolutionary is only to s-off ur phone. make sure u read up about everything first before doing anything, u dont have to understand absolutley everything but atleast have an idea and understand the risks.

My fellow noob! ( )
I was in same position as you before few days, this pro guys don't like to write steps, they point to guides and then you need to read ALOT to get picture of what is all needed, but luckily for you I am here to help lol
First to say some things about it...
1. We will S-OFF your phone (doesnt matter what S-OFF means)
2. Root phone
3. Modify your official ROM you got on phone (I presume its 2.2.2 as latest official android for Desire)
4. You will have free space
I will EDIT this post after I write all things you need to do
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
you can PM so we don't spam too much
2. already rooted with
[ROM] [28/12] Pre-rooted Stock Froyo (2.29.405.5) [Optional mods] by teppic74
HBOOT: 0.80 S-ON

s-off =security off
root = superuser permissions
anyway any1 can tell some1 run revolutionary and flash a zip file or rom, but the point of READING is so that u have an idea of what ur doing therefore u wont be back here in a week complaining that ur phone "suddenly stopped working" or "is my desire bricked"
lol rant over

lol I thought you are OP .. lambada24... and that you got non-rooted phone etc...damn, this change everything haha.
Since you are already rooted then just add another partition via PC and gparted live bootable CD, EXT3 on SD card and install app Link2SD, and you are good to go. Well tomorow I write something on PM
I've S-Offed the phone and rooted it. What ROM options should I be considering? Does Ice-cream sandwich work well on the Desire? I don't need anything highly modified, just something that will let me transfer as much data as possible to the SD card.

well done in getting s-off, easy aint it? personaly i wouldnt use ICS but its up to u. go look at all the roms in Desire Android Development and pick whats best for u, all devs post in the OP what features they have a2sd etc and install requirements.
also i would recommend 4ext recovery instead of clockworkmod. click 4ext recovery in my sig and download "4ext recovery updater app" install it then flash 4ext recovery from within the app

ICS roms are working well but all have one issue or another. You could try CM7.2 (gingerbread) if you don't mind loosing HTC sense.

Hello everybody, I'm new here. I have a really big problem with my HTC Wildfire. It's been taken off Vodafone network and I had some problems with it. I have it for two years now and I had problems with software generally. It bugs a lot, a lot of apps can't be used or are very slow and I decided to take it to put new software, because I didn't want to risk to screw something up by myself. The worker then told me that he can't install any other version of software except the stock version. Can you tell me what to do?

OK firstly do you mean network unlocked so that other Sim cards can work with it?
Secondly most repair places will only ever flash stock firmware. But here at xda developers we share the tools and knowledge to do it yourself first things first though. Can you pull the battery out of your wildfire. Place it back in, and then while holding down volume down, also hold power. You should be met with a white screen stating hboot: blablablabla ect. Can you post what hboot version you have, of it says s-on or s-off and also if the screen says buzz or Bee at the top. With that info I can help you place custom firmware on your htc wildfire

Yes, so that any other SIM card can work, but every time I power it up, first goes the HTC logo and then Vodafone logo turns up, with its apps like 360 shop and 360 updates.
It says:
HBOOT-1.01.0002
MICROP-0622
TOUCH PANEL-ATMEL224_20aa
RADIO-3.35.20.10
Also, it says S-ON, and BUZZ on the top.
Thank you in advance for your help.

OK you have 2 options either you can look for a device called an xtc clip, in phone repair shops ect. This device will use hardware to s-off your phone and then you can run any ruu that you want. The ruu will give you a de-branded rom the free, software solution will require you to look for a tutorial this section to downgrade your hboot to 1.01.0001, once you have downgraded to that hboot you can follow the s-off thread by using revolutionary to remove the security. Once that is done you can add a custom recovery, and then flash a custom rom to your phone which will be de-branded, faster and have tweaks I suggest flashing rempuzzle.

Thanks for everything, and one more question.
Will the downgrading and installing custom rom harm my phone in any way like overheating, some things not working like camera or something like that? I would like to put cyanogen mod 7 on my wildfire and I need to know will everything work properly? Or do you have any advice on which rom is the best for the wildfire?

No no problems will occur.
You can flash cm7 without errors.
Thats what a recovery is for.
Welcome to development.

you should not run into any issues as long as you dont drastically overclock your custom kernel. then you could maybe damage the phone but its not likely. it wouold probably just boot loop. ie only get to the boot animation and just repeat constantly. some users have issues with gps when they jump to cyanogenmod 7 but its easily fixed and the vast majority of people dont get that issue. cyanogenmod 7 is very very stable for this device and i think is the best custom rom level as it is different, stable, fast and has had a lot of support over the years
You can look for a program called HTCsupertool.exe. It will root and S-OFF the phone for free (you might have an internet explorer window pop up just close it).
Thanks a lot everyone, I made it, it works on 2.3.7 now
Do you have any advice about what frequency should I put it on and what kind of governor should I use?
And are there any useful apps I could download now?
i would recommend the governor smartassv2 and the minimum freq. to the lowest and the maximum 748. Also tick the settings for reboot, or you will lose them.
With cm7 you don't really need apps to improve it, as cm7 has most of it in the settings.
Thanks guys, you saved my phone.
One more question, is there any way I can create the menu style like on Samsung devices? Instead of scrolling up and down, to scroll left and right, if you understand what am I trying to tell you.
