[Q] Recent Apps in Notifications??? - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My desire is running on ReflexTsense 1.8 and i love the implementation of the buttons embedded into the notification drop down window (3g,wifi,BT,data,gps..etc) And i remember when i was trying out diff.rom's i saw one (cant remember which one, that's the point) that had embedded into the Notif's the :recent apps: menu, which was awesome...

[Q] The most simple, most reliable ROM ever?

Hello. Proud new owner of HTC Desire. I am going crazy at how beautiful this phone is.
I come from Nokia E71, BB Bold 9000, iPhone3G (never used 3Gs/4), Windows Mobile 6.
In all of those cases, I could not completely find OS that suits my needs.
I must say though, Symbian on E71 came closest to what I need.
What do I need?
I just need 5 functions, but I want them to work snappy and extremely fast.
Use the phone, send texts, browse the net, watch movies and use Google Maps. That's it.
As you can see, I am not a power user by any means. I don't need twitter, facebook, or push email. Basically, I am looking for simplest and most basic ROM out there that gets rid of pretty much EVERYTHING (think of custom Windows XP with useless features taken out).
I want to conserve as much battery as I can by not using anything that is not related to me.
Could any of you good folks recommend which ROM I should be looking at? I am not also a big fan of eye-candy, so this ROM I am seeking does not need to have the latest UI there's in the world. Just as long as it looks decent, but WORKS!
Thank you in advance. If there's a thread like this, please just link it and I will get info from there.
I use CyanogenMod with ADW launcher(CM6 comes with it), works great honestly. Does not contain any sort of extra bloat apart from the necessities. OpenDesire might be a good alternative to CM6 but I haven't tried it.
If you want a none sense ROM then Opendesire would easily be the most stable and the fastest. For sense, I would go Leedroid
If you want no Sense, go for OpenDesire. If you want Sense, use Pinky Desire (my personal favorite, clean and simple, also gets OTA updates from ROM Manager) or Leedroid (also great, but doesn't support OTA updating, only manual installation). I could also suggest MacLite, but I don't know about how stable it is. Oh, and don't use AuraxtSense or whatever it's called, it's bloated.

How would cyanogenmod compare with OpenDesire?

maclite 0.8 - very basic, stripped down version of sense. but it is odexed so you can't theme it. most, if not all, bloats have been removed so i'm expecting quite good battery life. note that it doesn't support the legacy A2SD+ so you're pretty limited with the internal storage. if you're not gonna theme and not gonna install many apps, this rom will pretty much suits you.
Thanks both of you for quick reply.
It's extra needed especially since i am waiting to root my phone because I have a flight tomorrow afternoon, so wanted it rooted in airplane.
Just read features of maclite 0.8....almost had nerd-gasm reading this:
Removed space and battery wasting applications/widgets are (see posting #2 below on how to restore):

That's EXACTLY what I was looking for.
Open Desire for a non sense ROM and and Lee Driod if you decide to go Sense.
OD is my favourite ROM - No bloat, just usefulness

You need to download/install that from the market, as all other 3rd party software.
try all the roms and choose your favourite.
personnaly i use opendesire
seeing you've just got your Desire I would suggest just using the stock rom for a while (yes, boring - but practical). The stock 2.1 rom is really pretty good and meets all of your criteria.
you can suss out what you like/don't like then choose a custom rom accordingly. all you are getting here are what other people like/use.

Medical/Health apps

Hey guys.. a thread for everyone seeking medical apps.

[Q] Minimalistic/bare android rom for DHD

Hi,
i am a proud new owner of a DHD, which is also my first android device. As with Windows Mobile before, i don't like the HTC Sense at all. I am also very disappointed with all the bloatware (aka trash) like Amazon MP3, Facebook, SoundHound, ... on this high class 450 Euro device. This all leads me to the following question:
Which ROM out there has as less modifications as possible or is the closest to a vanilla Android from Google?
So no
- Sense/other UI modifications
- HTC "dialer"
- (Animated) Themes
- Twitter, Facebook, Amazon
- Example Videos, pictures, MP3
A bit of e.g. battery tweaking would also be welcomed
Many thanks for your (hopefully numerous) suggestions.
Cyanogenmod 6(froyo) or 7(gingerbread)

Flussen is correct either CM6 for Froyo or CM7 for Gingerbread. Both are great ROMs.
Personally i would recommend flashing ARHD, with no-sense and rom cleaner.
It gets rid of nearly all the Sense stuff except that which is useful, specifically the rext selection mechanic, copy and paste implementation and the app switching from the notification bar.
Those 3 functions are the sole reason im sticking with a "sense" rom.
You will end up with a pretty vanilla experience if you go with that option, save for the above 3 points.
I'd say the latest CM7 nightly and mad murdocks battery fix patch. Happy flashing
Try LeeDroid 2.2.2 with nosense-patch.

i agree, currently on Spike CM7 build 22
this is what you want
Thanks for all your support. With the help of our replies i decided to try CM7 and flashed CleanDHD v1.00 - CM7n23. Everything works flawlessly and i am much more happy as with the Stock ROM + Sense. The only thing i don't like about it is the "190dpi for the true HD look" feature, as i find the fonts unnecessarily tiny (e.g. Command buttons with 95% free space in them and only the tiny "Next" Text in the middle).
As it seems to be impossible to change the font size/DPI on the system, is there any ROM similar to CleanDHD, but with the standard fonts?
Edit:
I found out that you can set the DPI to any value in the file /system/build.prop inside the .zip of the ROM before flashing. I hereby withdraw my abovementioned newbie question.

HTC Desire Z Stock Rom - Google Play Unavailable

Hi guys,
Can't find any threads on this, so I figure out maybe it's only happening to me?
I went back from CyanogenMod 7.1 to the latest WWE stock ROM. (Android 2.3.3, HTC Sense 2.1, Build 2.42.405.4).
I can't seem to find a way to install Google Play. I would imagine it would come as an update, OTA or from the market itself.
Can't get used to the old Market again, looks so silly, like Windows 3.1!
Is there a way to install Google Play? Or do you have it by default?
Apparently HTC Desire Z is not on the supported devices list in Google Play. :silly:
If anyone is curious, the reason to go back to original ROM was:
- Adobe Flash based accelerated video playback (black video)
- poor signal or switch between 2G/3G caused system hangs and weird behaviour when using data
- HTC Sense is really good at integrating contacts
- HTC has a better camera (or at least has some nice features like face-focus)
- problems with GPS fix and the GPS bug from Android 2.3 (but fixed and unreleased by HTC)
I am using ADW launcher as HTC Sense Home Screen is a CPU and memory hog and gets killed very often by Android for memory.
Cheers!

well there are plenty of roms to choose from that are better than stock, but your choice on going back!

thank you demkantor for this workaround.
I am still curious what's wrong with this market update and wether downloading from theandroidsoul is required for everyone.
OTOH, can someone recommend a ROM that doesn't have all these mentioned problems?

[Q] Gin2KitKat + Xposed

Hi @vokal1992,
I only just started using Gin2KitKat v3.1.0, it's awesome. Great job, thanks man.
One question, would it be possible to encorporate the Xposed framework? I know it's been ported backwards to GB (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=44034334&postcount=2315)
I thought it would be cool, if it was encorporated here, as there are some benefits of being able to change things on the fly.
For example, this is an interesting use of it on GB... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=47575128 for changing the status bar without going into recovery to flash it.
-superbats
You can install it yourself you know?
As you've already provided links saves me from doing that
I have them installed on my Gin2KitKat, makes the statusbar look alot nicer imo, as you can transparent it on the homescreen and then black it on everything else to avoid conflicts
