My phone is unlocked but branded??? - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I asked yesterday bout debranding my Vodafone branded desire hd, I just put my gf's t mobile sim in it and sent a text to another phone? So I take it it is unlocked but branded?
Is there an easier way to debrand a dhd other than all this Eng-s off stuff and that? All I basically want is to get rid off the Vodafone logo at start up screen, also what affect does having an unlocked dhd have on future software updates even though it is branded?? I mean the 1.84 update is rolling out but its not showing up when I search for it??
Please excuse the probable newbie questions, but I'm just trying to get my head round it all many thanks

Im on Vodafone and im not/wasn't branded whatsoever....
But you will almost certainly have to root im afraid! Its not all that hard at all so just follow one of the stickies in the development section

You dont have to, u need to make a goldcard google it

I've seen a debrand pack on eBay from funfoneshop, its basically a SD card that u put in ur phone and press power button and volume down button while off and its meant to debrand it, do u think it will get rid of the Vodafone boot screen and the apps or just the apps??
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App

Nope either goldcard or root
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App

it will get rid of apps + bootscreen
from what i can read what they sell is a goldcard + htc rom (without branding) as image so u can flash it with bootloader directly
dont buy it ,create yourself, then u know what u got

Ok thanks, I would create myself but seems really difficult and confusing :-(

If We Get 2.3

Will we be able to fully install apps to SD card?
I don't think Google have implemented it, most new handsets now come with more than adequate internal storage so it's not needed

This is true, and the Nexus S comes with 16GB internal storage... not sure if this is partitioned off or something - but i thought it odd they have removed the option to have an external SD card... that's one of the main selling points to me - iphone/windowsphone don't seem to want to offer it.
It's a big let down I love the desire but this installing problem needs sorting

It has been - it's called rooting
Yer I know that but am on contract for 2 years

And? So am I, got my phone in April and rooted it once Paul @ MoDaCo worked it out and been going between rooted and stock ever since.
So long as you've got the stock RUU your phone originally came with you can always go back to stock for warranty purposes
I didn't know that thanks ill have to look more into it. Any ROM I should go with?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Firstly, what ROM you running on at the moment? Go to Settings>About phone>Software information and it's the Software version you're interested in
As for custom ROMs I recommend the HD ports, RCMixHD in particular. It does involve a bit of setting up so as an easy one to look into I reckon LeeDroid is a safe bet. Either that or Teppic's stock ROM with added extras
2.14.207.1 is the software number. Am go work so ill post back soon. Thanks for your help

There isn't an RUU for your handset so if you were to root you'd be stuck on warranty issues...might be worth holding out for now
That's not good lol, getting sick of no memory left. Desire is a great phone but the memory is a big let down, mainly when you have a 16 gb card in your phone and can't use it.

[Q] HTC Firmware upgrades

Hi guys,
new newb here, i just had a question, i recently purchased Desire HD (3 months ago) since then i hear alot of ginger bread and all other versions coming out...but doesnt seem HTC is bothering to provide the firmware upgrade for Desire HD ..apart from the guys giving their Mods here..
Do i understand this correctly?
Laughter.
GB has started to be rolled out in Europe. As always with OTA ROM upgrades, patience is the key.
[EDIT] There's a thread dedicated to this subject on this very forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=863327
(Man I'm in a nice mood. See "Andy", I can be nice *rasp*) [/EDIT]
Or you can stop waiting, have fun and check out the naughtiness on the development forum )
i think i'll go the naughty way, whats the worst, a bricked phone good for hitting lizards with!
That's the attitude I like to see.
BTW, I edited my original reply with link to thread on update thread.

As a rule, bricked is bricked is bricked.
There are rumblings of fixes involving soldering resistors to a USB cable but nothing confirmed, that I know of.
For the moment, assume no fix. If bricked it will need to go back to HTC.
Sorry if that sounds nooby

No worries. It's what we're here for.
Thx m8 will avoid that at all cost lol

You can flash a ROM with out messing around with the radio, which is what can get your device bricked. Plus there's a Gingerbread ROM of the latest build (2.36) you can flash without even having your device rooted... search for ROM 2.36 and you'll find it plus instructions on how to.
Happy flashing
Is it the same version like the leaked one?
Lol I have flashed so much ****, from so many people, to so many devices. I follow the directions and xda-devz never fail me
I recommend leedroid or rc's if you like sense or cm7 for overall pwnage.
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
Is there any forum which inform which radio to be use with which rom, as to avoid any bricked from happen? Or something which we must not do as can cause bricked etc?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Mate, you cannot brick it unless you do something stupid in command line. Really any wrong flash combination is recoverable.
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
For Lee's rom, he usually specifies what radio will be better suited and a link to radio as well in the first post.

Dhd latest firmware question.

Hi all,

The devs need to do two things : 1. to find a way to get the root privilege so 2. to turn off write-protection of the internal sd so flashing the CWM recovery image and custom roms is possible.
There used to be one or some kernel vulnerabilities to achieve these. They found some methods to get a root privilege and also forced the Linux kernel to load a kernel module to turn off write protection. Now these wouldn't work any more as the stock update fixed these security issues.
The scenario for iOS is the same too. IPad2 jailbreaking is nowhere to see either. It is a different issue, but the morale behind these is if the vendors don't support JB in iOS or rooting in Android , the future of JB or Rooting may be gloomy.
Though HTC announced its hboot unlocking, I still doubt if write-protection can be turned off. My next Android phone could be Nexus series, 'cos Google Phone was/is/will be always open, if Google doesn't change the policy.

[Q] Is S-ON required to return wildfire to stock froyo ROM after S-OFF and Root

Hi,
Is S-ON required to revert wildfire to stock froyo ROM after S-OFF and Root
Wildfire A3333
RemPuzzleROM
S-OFF
No if you use an ruu I think it will update your hboot and turn s back on, however you can get a safe ruu which doesn't contain hboot.img so you'll keep s off.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using xda premium
OP - No, You can flash an RUU even in S-OFF state. It will still work fine. (Obviously, remember to get back to S-ON in case you are returning the phone to claim warranty)
Scratch, You seem a bit busy today mate.

I've been staying away kind of, still checking everyday to see if any new developments pop up and trying to help a few, I've even gone back to a froyo Rom as I'm sick of breaking cm7.
Patiently waiting till I can afford my upgrade.

What you upgrading to scratch?
And lets say if money was not an issue ..... what would you guys get?

I know that feeling. Happened quite a few times. (And I am still not switched to my SGS2 100%. Paranoid of using it here in "Super Dense Crush Load" Public Transport)
I was thinking of the experia arc, on offer at phones 4 u for £230 with my upgrade I should get it for 200. But I'm not sure think I might go in the shop and play with some first.
If money was no object I think I'd buy them all mate just because I could!

I've been looking around for a few pointers on how to get stock-froyo back on my wildfire currently on cm7.
Nice to see that just flashing the right RUU will do the trick, but how do I find the right RUU? Have been looking at shipped-roms.com but I can't really figure it out.
Also, are there any tricks to flashing a RUU (read: how do I do that?)
- Sincerely

T Mobile has the Atrix for something like 15 pounds a month, problem is, there's more ICS development on the Wildfire than on the Atrix. Oh, and pi have to pay 50 upfront. But I think that covers the HD dock that comes with it.

S-off is another way that HTC has there phones locked it controls alot of other options to total phone control some phones with s-off have full boot screen customization, we can change our booting img. But with it off that stupid HTC devoloper screen with the red letters can be cuatomized... even to make it look like a non boot loader unlocked phone. I even read a post a few days back that said it will allow for us to us the phones internel storage instead of the roms storage space it will even allow us to compress the storage space our rooms take up..... and even heard that this phones 0.89 g storage internally is really a 1.5-2.0g storage used up for ota updates and other HTC crap so THANK u HTC for a way to only give us half run on the phones but there r a few good ones working on it.... it will be soon just stay patient.
Hit thanks if I help u in any way........ :[
