Will we be able to fully install apps to SD card?
I don't think Google have implemented it, most new handsets now come with more than adequate internal storage so it's not needed

This is true, and the Nexus S comes with 16GB internal storage... not sure if this is partitioned off or something - but i thought it odd they have removed the option to have an external SD card... that's one of the main selling points to me - iphone/windowsphone don't seem to want to offer it.
It's a big let down I love the desire but this installing problem needs sorting

It has been - it's called rooting
Yer I know that but am on contract for 2 years

And? So am I, got my phone in April and rooted it once Paul @ MoDaCo worked it out and been going between rooted and stock ever since.
So long as you've got the stock RUU your phone originally came with you can always go back to stock for warranty purposes
I didn't know that thanks ill have to look more into it. Any ROM I should go with?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Firstly, what ROM you running on at the moment? Go to Settings>About phone>Software information and it's the Software version you're interested in
As for custom ROMs I recommend the HD ports, RCMixHD in particular. It does involve a bit of setting up so as an easy one to look into I reckon LeeDroid is a safe bet. Either that or Teppic's stock ROM with added extras
2.14.207.1 is the software number. Am go work so ill post back soon. Thanks for your help

There isn't an RUU for your handset so if you were to root you'd be stuck on warranty issues...might be worth holding out for now
That's not good lol, getting sick of no memory left. Desire is a great phone but the memory is a big let down, mainly when you have a 16 gb card in your phone and can't use it.

Hi everyone, my girlfriend has a Desire on Telus and she keeps getting low space warning. I poked around through Astro but couldn't find anything to delete. She has all apps installed to SD that support it. Is this just product of the environment, small internal memory?
I'm sure there is a way to cure this with a little hackery, and if it were mine it would be no problem but she is weary of that sort of thing.
Any suggestions would be great. Maybe an app for managing space more suited for these phones.
Thanks.

unfortunately that's the problem with the desire.
you'll need to update to a rom that supports apps2sd+ or data2sd which essentially lets the phone use part of your sd card as internal memory
That's the impression I was getting looking at the custom ROMs. Thanks anyway.

Starburst is android 2.2 or the same dev has supernova android 2.3
The choice is your's am using 2.3 and have 2GB internal memory, have lots off app's and still 1.2GB left.
Small internal memory is a known desire problem. Data2sd will solve your girlfriend's storage problems. Imho starburst, supernova and miui (d2ext x-part version) are recommended. You could also change partition layout (hboot), but this is much riskier than flashing one of the named roms.
Thanks for the suggestions guys! If it were mine it would already be done, but it's not. I will talk to her and see if I can convince her.
How sensitive is the Desire to flashing? Are there any major issues I should read up on first? Of course I will do some homework but a heads up would be great.
Thanks again, I'll check back often.

Root using unrevoked3 http://unrevoked.com/recovery/
And flashing RoMs is very safe, has long has you do a nand backup, this just like installing windows.
For 2.3 RoM a new radio is recommended this is risky, but ive had no problem's and ive updated radio 4 time's.
They is load's of topics for first timer's on here just have a good read.

The problem with that not all the file is moved, like app2sd+ 20mb file 15mb to sd 5 still on internal, you'll soon use that 150mb.
Thanks so much guys for the information and suggestions. She is debating the matter so in the meantime I'll have to do some serious studying on flashing this phone. It is much more complicated than flashing the Galaxy S.
She should have took my advice and got a Desire HD after her first Desire was stolen.

rooting sounds really scary but is actually very simple, you just need to post what your current hboot setup is, from powered off press vol down and press power. let us no what your hboot version is. because if its the new 1.06 there is no way to root yet.

Took a quick look at the videos and it seems pretty straightforward. Allot more work than I'm used to but nothing I can't handle. Too bad you can't boot from a clone drive in windows.

Hi guys, been quite a while since I started this thread but finally this past weekend had the time to get started on fixing the wife's Desire.
Got it rooted with unrevoked after much frustration. I finally found a post that recommend uninstalling a few apps to stop getting the failure error and it worked like a charm. Not before I read another post that recommend using linux because of issues with win 64 bit. I happened to have a copy of zorin os on my desk so I now have that to play with when I get home on Friday. :-D
Shot a thanks to all you who helped, wish me luck when I attempt to flash a custom ROM to her phone this weekend.
I think I might get her a new one for Christmas.

Moving to Q&A
Just about a week or two ago, I installed the new gingerbread update that Android pushed out, but I didn't know I wasn't suppose to if I wanted to root, is there anyway to get back to Froyo, I haven't did any rooting or flashing, or anything to the phone.
You can not as of now. Not to sound like a douche, but there is no less than 2 or 3 threads on this exact question. 95% of your questions have probably been answered somewhere on this forum, if you use the search button.
I too have a un-rooted Dinc2 that has GB on it and am patiently waiting for someone WAY smarter than me to find a way to root it. I can't stand the bloat
You could just be impatient and get a payg xtc clip. They're like 30 bucks.

Why don't you just factory reset... And it'll bring you back to Froyo-than you can S-Off and root your phone, and if you want GB just download the rooted, debloated deodexed OTA? :/
I'm not too sure about the Dinc2, seeing as how I came from Fascinate but with the GB-Froyo officially-a factory reset always reset it to the stock rom it shipped with.. which it SHOULD be the same to all android devices regardless of make. YMMV
Just a suggestion.

Sorry but that is incorrect advice on the HTC Android platform. Once you upgrade to a new ROM, that is the ROM that is restored when you do a factory reset. There is no permanent storage of the 'factory shipped' ROM.

Is it possible to dual boot my one v [cdma] phone? I would like to have the option of either booting into custom rom or just stock.
As of now no not for us once we get s-off then it will be a possibility. The closest I can get is duel profile which is not duel boot

S-off is another way that HTC has there phones locked it controls alot of other options to total phone control some phones with s-off have full boot screen customization, we can change our booting img. But with it off that stupid HTC devoloper screen with the red letters can be cuatomized... even to make it look like a non boot loader unlocked phone. I even read a post a few days back that said it will allow for us to us the phones internel storage instead of the roms storage space it will even allow us to compress the storage space our rooms take up..... and even heard that this phones 0.89 g storage internally is really a 1.5-2.0g storage used up for ota updates and other HTC crap so THANK u HTC for a way to only give us half run on the phones but there r a few good ones working on it.... it will be soon just stay patient.
Hit thanks if I help u in any way........ :[

On UK T Mob and just got the small update then the 350mb one, phone restarted, did another small update, restarted again, and it was a full factory reset complete with no apps etc but ALSO internal storage has been wiped??? All my photos, downloads, music etc has been wiped? Surely this isn't normal?
Really miffed about it, didn't have backups of most of it. Another nail in the coffin for HTC selling me another phone, ever.

Why open a new thread to tell everybody this?
Should of backed it up first to be honest. Try using some recovery software like Recuva
Does this mean That T- mobile has released the JB update in the UK?
I'm currently waiting for it but can't check OTA as I'm rooted running Viper at the moment.

But thanks for your input... As to backing up, it was a carrier OTA so didn't see the need to backup /sdcard as after years of changing unsupported ROMs I've never lost the storage, so assumed a carrier/OEM one would be safe.
To the others, yes it appeared this morning. I'd be a bit careful about applying it though!
Tathan what's your cid? Branded or unbranded?

ITs unusual but by all accounts from the JB threads here there are bugs, as its flash memory its not going to be possible to recover anything. Best you can do is moan to tmobile and see if they will pay your compensation.

Hey guys,
since I got myself a Nexus 4 now I am thinking about selling my good old Desire Z.
Currently I have the JB Test build ROM on it(iirc) and rooted of course. So as I never sold anything modified like that I would like to know if its "common" to roll back to the stock rom/unroot/unlock/ or anything like that.
Unless you know the person you're selling to is a techy I would return everything to stock. This avoids ppl blaming you for stuff not working.

Maybe safe wipe your flash?
Sent from my KFJWI using XDA Premium HD app
How do I do that?
I would also recommend you downgrading it again unless you clearly state that it's a rooted device when selling it!
Also just google for some tipps and tricks on how to completly erase data from your phone
Cheers
As a buyer, I would much rather have a CM-release than the HTC Sense for Desire Z.
