I have tried the universal root many times and it keeps telling me the ADB Shell does not have root permissions and kicking me out. I searched for that specific error and couldn't find anything. What do I do?

Have you enable USB debugging? Go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=838448 for more information.
Usb debugging is enable form the applications menu, and the hboot drivers are installed?
Use this method. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=838448 It works great. I've done 4 phones using this script & if you run into a snag Haus is great at helping you solve any issues.

With unrevoked, you just get the drivers, plug the phone in and press go.

Well they don't call it the 1 click root for no reason. Just make sure to download the modified hboot drivers.http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/windows_hboot_driver_install
And make sure to install htc sync, the uninstall it.

Something is blocking the rage exploit, unrevoked will usually just say "software is too new" when that happens
If you do a factory reset it will let it work.
the one click is not working .... i'm doing a factory reset and then gonna try the auto root
What part of it isn't working?

Does anyone know when I'm trying to Flash the Eng-Release to the Slide why on step 6 I get permission denied or cdmod not found?
I don't know specifically to this but yesterday while I was rooting I had that happen. I was pushing some files through adb and told me no permissions. I did reboot on phone and computer and it worked the next time. Weird. You may have already tried that but that's all I got and like I said it was not for this specific step. mine was during the root process.

If you are actually typing "cdmod" that is why, the command is "chmod".

Wow thanks for pointing that out. I can't believe I was typing it wrong.
I could use some help so I don't brick my phone. I have done a search or two on how to root this particular build and it's probably me - I don't think I have found any information to my question. On xda there was info on the superboot method from modaco that it only worked on ICS4.0.1. The GNex toolkit v7 does not have build IMM30d included. I purchased the phone from Google play and received it late last week. Is this build supported by any root method mentioned? Or will anyone link me to a method that supports the build?
My signature will get you running in a jiffy, sir.

Don't use toolkits. It's not that there is anything inherently bad with them, but having a program do everything for you without understanding how it is doing it means that you don't know how to fix anything if something goes wrong. It's better to do things manually and learn how everything works before taking the easy way through it.
Haha, alright. This is in the Q&A section and I'm sure as hell no developer. I'm coming from a mytouch4g. Had to use adb to downgrade from gingerbread to froyo to root it. Even after reading it over a couple times the directions were still intimidating. It looked like an easy option. Appreciate the input though.
I'll reiterate what others said...
You'll want to know that adb and fastboot are set up correctly, anyway.
They're EXTREMELY useful in countless situations.
I promise you that it'll be an easy process.

HA. sorry. if you are still willing to help real quick... the command 'adb reboot bootloader' brought up a bubble installing device driver.. android 1.0.. failed to install driver. I had already had the drivers installed. Idea?
Most likely, if you connect you device to Wi-Fi, it will receive an OTA update -- I think IMM76 (blanking on build number).

The driver needs to install TWICE: once when your device is booted normally, and once when booted into the bootloader.
I'm having a problem using juba's rooting method. It won't go into recovery mode. I'm using the same android and build as the fellow poster. Any help? It's just sticking on the google word with the unlock thing at the bottom when I try to reboot into recovery from the bootloader.
Hold down vol+ and vol- and turn the phone on. When the menu comes up, select recovery.

I would ask in the rumrunners s-off thread in original dev. but for me I needed to make a linux live USB and boot from there to get mine to work.

I had troubles getting mine to work the first time, I had to make sure I had all anti-virus and firewall programs turned off. That solved it for me. It ended up taking about 4 Pours to get the exploit to take.

Humm.. I'm no expert on it since this was my first time doing anything like it. But I would just double check everything like the simple settings you may have over looked like UBS Debugging, developer mode, or even that fast boot setting. And did you download the right files for your firmware version?

Turn off your firewall and antivirus and rerun rumrunner. Issue should be resolved.

Hey guys! For whatever reason, whenever I try to S-OFF my HTC One M8 using Firewater, I don't get the Yes/No prompt. No idea why and have spent 2 hours trying to fix/research solutions. I'd really like S-OFF. I have a Canadian TELUS model. Yes, ADB is configured properly.

Make sure you download latest from the site. If it gives you whelp message, you're out of luck.
If it's just not connecting try another PC, Virtual Machine or Linux Live CD.

Using latest version from the Firewater site.
It is connecting, i am getting the same thing as the OP's image. so pc is talking to phone but file just wont launch anything.
at the moment i have a bigger problem, i accidently deleted my OS while trying to get firewater working so I dont have a rom now..
trying to work that one out first.
SOLVED
For anybody having this same issue, it turns out the version of the file is incorrect.
how can this be?
Well it turns out my ISP (Optus Australia) was caching the file and it was the wrong version.
After working with the firewater dev Beaups we worked out the file had the wrong md5 checksum.
to get around this, try download it using mobile data or another network.
Once i got the same file through another link (bypassing ISP cache) it worked as expected.
Hope that helps somebody.

EDIT: was able to root once but then everytime it just reboots the phone - at first cause was I didn't accept the "installation of the application" battery is low so maybe that could be the the reason..

I had the same problem a few hours ago. Kingo Root refused to work at all, so I had to use the Kingroot app. It made my phone lag like crazy after it rooted it, but it eventually worked. When you use either Kingo Root or Kingroot, what's the exact error that you get? Are you using Root Checker to see if you achieved root?
I always did a factory reset before starting the root process, it just seemed to make things go smoother. At least it would stay stable long enough to get all the adb stuff done. (Barely though )

That sucks, to be honest it's been awhile since I did the unlock process. Maybe something changed with the way that app roots. Have you already tried an older version of kingroot? I know you've probably tried all this stuff but sometimes things get overlooked.
