BY mistake I made a thread in general note4 section.

Anyone willing to help out?
EDIT: was able to root once but then everytime it just reboots the phone - at first cause was I didn't accept the "installation of the application" battery is low so maybe that could be the the reason..

I had the same problem a few hours ago. Kingo Root refused to work at all, so I had to use the Kingroot app. It made my phone lag like crazy after it rooted it, but it eventually worked. When you use either Kingo Root or Kingroot, what's the exact error that you get? Are you using Root Checker to see if you achieved root?
I always did a factory reset before starting the root process, it just seemed to make things go smoother. At least it would stay stable long enough to get all the adb stuff done. (Barely though )

I was able to root once and run the script and it changed the CID or whatever it was. Now I simply cannot get temp root at all to finish the bootloader unlock process. Tried PC version and Android version so many times now it just reboots and reboots.

That sucks, to be honest it's been awhile since I did the unlock process. Maybe something changed with the way that app roots. Have you already tried an older version of kingroot? I know you've probably tried all this stuff but sometimes things get overlooked.

Rooted once with the newest one and it didn't reset even once. But then it just resets everytime. I did another factory reset so we shall see. I'll keep on trying.

It worked once for me was able to use the unlock script but it was the part #1 of the process, so far I am unable to root again to fully unlock it. Been trying since yesterday the phone reboots when trying to root.

The kingroot 5.0 worked on second try.. so no idea why the older ones didn't work.
Would you happen to know which rom supports more languages other then default ones? shipping this phone to Europe tomorrow, don't know how stable CM roms are.

Hi,
To preface, I am new to Samsung devices. I have been using Huawei devices until recently when my work started paying for my cellphone.
I've seen a few discussions about rooting the SGH-i257 that inevitable lead to the instructions for the SGH-i257m or some other variation of the S4 mini. What I've noticed is that it inevitably falls to some issue with Knox. I'm wondering if anyone has had success specifically rooting this phone using one of the straightforward utilities (like oneclickroot) or some sort of convoluted process.
I'm completely aware that I can disable apps. However, I want to root my phone and have more control. It's similar to the idea of why drive a manual instead of an automatic. You interact more with the car.
Anyway, any input would be great.
EDIT:
I've stumbled upon SRSroot a few times. Is this a legit rooting tool?

try www.towelroot.com (click the logo to download) it's legit and it doesn't trip knox, if it works...
I tried that a couple of times. I am assuming it has failed (though I could be wrong). I ran the application and it rebooted my phone.

I have the same phone and I have tried all the one click methods, programs, SRSroot, towelroot, saferoot, you name it I've tried it without success. I've been searching the same threads that lead to the same conclusion...there is a way to root (flash) the SGH-i257M (Canadian) but from what I've found is that no one knows if you'll lose any services or anything else if you root the U.S. AT&T phone with that method and there isn't a stock rom out for it yet, so if you flash it to a Canadian (m) model and don't like it or it doesn't have everything working right you're not able to revert back.
I'm am not an expert by no means, thats just my thoughts from what I've read.
Good luck on your quest - you can search my other posts for what I've learned - -

I followed the steps to root the SGH-i257. This process was not successful.
I will occasionally poke around here to see if something new manifests itself. Otherwise, I am probably going to wait a few months. I'm sure someone will figure out how to root the phone by then.

Sorry no input on your rooting issues, but
Could one of you fine folks post the build.prop from your AT&T stock Rom?
It would really help out trying to fix some cm10.2 connection issues. Thanks.

Search is your Friend ....
As far as i Know it doesnt work on lollipop & only works for KitKat. it doesnt work for mine on Lollipop. Also its not a Perm Root, Root is lost upon reboot
Search the Form there is a bunch more info on it
Yup, only works on kitkat and it's temporary only.
The devs are working on a permanent solution. I personally have held off with trying king root because I don't trust it.
I am downgrading and i am going to attempt kingroot because i wanna get rid of bloatware and i never turn my phone off unless i really need to.
Sent from my SM-N910V using XDA Free mobile app
I believe there is a debloater that's been out for lollipop that doesn't need root.
I also think I've read that even if you don't reboot, over time or after messing with certain parts of the system, you'll lose root.
Debloater doesn't remove bloatware, only disables it.
Kingroot has been reported to cause random reboots, which is why I haven't tried it in spite of the fact that I rarely if ever reboot my phone either.
Also, something I've come to wonder... What good would deleting bloatware be if those no custom ROM with reworked partitions? We wouldn't be gaining any space from the ROM partition (where system apps are stored) But we can already delete all the updates for system apps (since they go in internal storage instead of overwriting the original app in ROM storage). At least this is the way I've come to understand it from using Titanium Backup on my old devices.
I didn't think king root was actually rooting your main system rom? Thought that was why you had to use multisystem and from that point you would install the rooted kitkat rom, etc..
But if kingroot does root the factory system, then you could simply root with kingroot remove the bloatware then it wouldn't matter if you lost root after a reboot. Correct?
I am not sure but i am trying to downgrade my note 4 right now and i hope it doesnt brick

I was wondering if I went through this temp root path and modified my hosts file as well as using "SDFix: KitKat Writable SD" to give me write access to sd. You can downgrade to NJ5 4.4 rom and get temporary root with King root, if you're on OAF. However, if you took the OTA upgrade to OF1 or above, you cannot downgrade. You stuck with LL with no way to root.

I dont think kingroot is root at all.
I dont understand the term "temporary root"
Even if its temporary, changes it makes to the system should be permanent yet they go back to normal.
I tried using system app uninstaller and it said "succeeded "
I tried to use AdAway and it said "successful"
I even opened up the system/hosts file to confirm the change was made, yet after reboot everything went back to stock.
Not only that, but kingroot comes with FULL SCREEN ads that pop when you exit application that requested root access, and they are annoying playing videos and eat up your data.
I think kingroot creates virtual root environment inside RAM. Changes made inside RAM do not apply to device storage. Nothing is changed to say the very least but allot of garbage and spyware is added.
Even after uninstalling the app, its service is left behind and you gotta remove thru "Settings/applications/All"
Smart Chinese should have put their knowledge into cracking the locked bootloader instead of creating fake trash like this.

I was playing with my buddy's note4 (sm-n910v) this evening and I used Kingroot's Purify app. After running it, I went through every option and it finally gave me a link to the Kingroot.net download (XDA's wouldn't parse for me).
I installed Kingroot and ran it... fail.
Rebooted
Ran Purify again, followed by Kingroot.... Root Successful!
Ran RootChecker..... haha... tripped the knox.... auto reboot. (Note to self... don't run RootChecker)
Ran Kingroot.... much faster root success this time!
Verified root by turning on the root explorer in ES File Explorer's options.... Root was asked for and granted.
Instead of removing the bloatware using ES File, I opted to give the Purify app another try in hope of getting root to stick.
That's when I came Purify's 'Debloater' app.... It started ok, so, I handed my buddy his phone and told him."Better get some while the getting is good!".... He had about 30 apps checked when I stopped him and suggested he make a back up before he does anymore!
Apps uninstalled successfully and my buddy rebooted (ok...I guess we're done).
After reboot.. root was gone but, so were the 30+ apps!
Long story short.... Getting root is possible... You just have to get root when you need it and be decisive in your actions.... Remember anything that trips the knox and try to avoid it!... Work Purify and Kingroot back and forth like a couple of wedges... I think I was close to getting root to stick permanently but, my buddy had to go home and he took all the toys with him
I guess the next step is getting rid of, disabling or re-configuring the knox.... So, please read up on the knox system change detect-o-matic before trying to uninstall it... Do it right and you'll be a champ!
But... if you automate it for everyone with a small program and you'll reach 'Hero' status for sure!
Oh yeah.... That Note4 was running Lollipop 5.1.0 (or 5.0.1?... I didn't pay much attention)
Hope that helps
<8^)
P.S. Sorry if I posted incorrectly ... I'll get it right one of these days!

Hi mate,
what method did you use to root 5.1.1?
I spent hours last night clearing 5gb of space on c:\ so I could update my z1 to 5.1 using pc companion.
Finally got it updated and now I realise kingroot doesnt work on 5.1 yet.
Any pointers would be much appreciated,

FYI: looks like some people do not trust it. It looks no more sketchy than Kingroot to me but your mileage may vary. PSA
Here is a dedicated thread to supporting it: XDA discussions
Kingroot worked fine for me so I have not tried it.
kingo Root worked for me, now I will finally be able to unlock the boot loader.
thank you for the post on this was driving me crazy
I used the apk instead of the PC version, worked the first time
kingroot failing use kingoroot
Just to confirm no version of kingroot apk or pc would root my note 4 always failed. Tried kingoroot and worked the 1st time. Good luck!
I'd strongly recommend once you get root to install a custom ROM. Any one will work.
Part of installing most ROMs is the requirement to wipe the data partition. Format the data partition as well as wipe it. That should remove any remnants of Kingroot. Make sure anything you have saved to your internal storage... pictures, music, etc... is moved off before you wipe/format.
Format the SD card that you used to unlock the bootloader and if you have stuff on your daily driver SD card that you can replace, format that as well. One never knows what sort of cooties Kingroot leaves on a phone. It's best to disinfect as best as you can.
i'm also unable to gain root with either kingroot or kingoroot (pc & android versions) Anyone else having this issue, if so how did you gain perm root?
Kingoroot loses the root after reboot
The first root is OK. But it won't shut down smoothly, need to take out battery. After the reboot, the root is gone. Bootloarder is not successful. Is there anything wrong on my Note 4, 5.1.1, BPA1 baseband version?
I have rooted with kingoroot the 1st time. I was able to proceed through all the steps and change the CID, But not a DEV phone yet. I need to run the steps again. kingoroot say rooted, but when I check with root checker it says not rooted. kingroot just restarts the phone.
Update, I kept rebooting and root took about 30 try's. I was able to complete and phone is not DEV
The kingOroot webpage isn't loading in chrome at all (at least the link provided above).. maybe we need mirrors in case it was taken down?
EDIT: I managed to load it into edge.. but where do you find older versions in case the current version fails? (Or is that issue just kingroot?)
Anyone flash the newest ota? Any differences?
Just updated yesterday. I was hoping it would finally be on 5.1.1 but don't see any difference. Still had the annoying priority notifications and heads up notifications. Glad to see someone else is still squeezing life outta their note 3.
Is there a root out for this firmware yet?

There are a lot of users out there otherwise this update wouldn't have happened. They need to have a certain amount of users to justify updating. I'm glad as this phone is still a beast, and going strong.

Root works like any other recent version. Just look in the threads for the method you want. If it worked at least for four versions ago, it should still work now.

Ok I tried kingroot it said that it wasn't adaptable yet. So does that mean I should wait a while for a new root to come out or just try another way?

I think that's the only one I never used. Follow this thread for rooting. I've used this for all my Note 3 roots. You just need to do the rooting steps.

You don't need to use kingroot. Just flash TWRP via download mode and flash SuperSU.
This is really great! What security update does it have? It would be really great to have a deodexed version. I tried on the previous
version, but failed. Does anyone have good pointers on deodexing?

The firmware version is great. Custom roms usually come deoxed. Try magma ux build
