What twitter app do you use and why? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm curious what all my xda elitists use for their twitter client.
I use plume. No real reason, just picked it.
swyped from my cyanogenized and gingerbreaded EVO

Peep, I only use twitter to troll anyway. Twitter is dumb.

Seesmic.
Because.
blah blah effin blah

Peep. Because I tweet twice a year (actual calculation) and have no need to tweet. I pretty much only use twitter to follow comedians and it's easier to use than RSS feeds.

I used Twidroid until Twitter updated their official app, which I use now. They did a great job of cleaning it up, I thought.

issimo. Instant push notifications and no polling.

Tweetdeck. Facebook/Twitter in one place.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App

Plume. Works well, looks nice, has a good widget, and supports multiple accounts.

Been using Plume since it was first released. It has a nice UI, inline image thumbnails, saving timeline position and the dev is awesome. Plus I can follow links without tapping the tweet first - I hate having to do that in other Twitter clients.
I've tried all the clients and the only thing Plume is missing that I'd like to see added is Facebook integration like Seesmic and TweetDeck offer.

I will argue anyone down about this, on android the best twitter app is "Twicca". Hands down nothing can compete and since its made by the Japanese I would only assume they have no competition lol. Give twicca 1 day and you'll be in love.

Twicca is pretty nice too, possibly my second favorite client (that or Seesmic). I almost switched but I remember there being something missing last time I tried it. Foxie looks good too but it hasn't been released yet.

Tweetcaster Pro, because I like the layout, and it has tons of options.

In Plume, old-style RT's (aka "Retweet with Comment") is enabled by default, and if you switch to new-style RT's by default, just holding down the Retweet button on a tweet will bring up the post box for old-style RT's.

When issimo comes out of beta im willing to bet no one in this post will ever use another twitter app. And ive tried every one listed here.

This honestly, I have never liked Twitter. I don't get the point of it.

never tried native app. Tried twidroyd, tweetcast, and currently use plume.

@stunnd1420

I use the stock HTC twitter app.
3 reasons:
1. It's already there, so I don't have to waste space getting another app that does essentially the same function (updating my twitter).
2. It works. It retrieves tweets when I want it to and when I type something in and hit "submit" it sends to twitter successfully and I'm all done.
3. When it comes down to it, the only difference between each app is UI and one (maybe 2) features that the base app doesn't have. The HTC twitter app is themed just like my Friend Stream..and messaging widget...and calender widget. So why search for an app that matches my theme when one is built in?
Quiet Brilliance=htc
okay that's enough fanboyism, someone kill me.

I user the HTC app. Only because I mainly follow my morning show and a couple of feeds. Hardly ever actually send out tweets so no reason to be picky about what I use. Only thing annoys me is u can't click a link directly from it.

So, how'd you all like (or dislike) iris?

If you haven't heard about iris go here;
http://www.tomsguide.com/us/Gingerbread-Iris-Siri-iOS-Honeycomb,news-12968.html
So, what do you think about it? I think it's unreal that they made in in just 8 hours! Grated, it has a few problems but overall it's extremely well done. One problem that really annoyed me was that it was working fine, then about 4 hours later it would give me complete and utter crap for answers. Now it's working again, if I was to ask "How did Jhon F Kennedy die?" I would receive a full answer provided with pictures, dates, etc. Whereas before I would receive answers such as "He was bitten by a werewolf." or "He sold his soul to Yelloweyes to let Jake live."
Anyway, what's your take on this?

agreed.
Just a silly gimmick that in reality doesnt actually work that well.
So..it's cleverbot with a speech synthesizer that can apparently do some fact querys?
Isn't the main point of Siri that it interacts with your phone and does stuff there?
I wouldn't call a text-to-speech cleverbot the same as siri or even remotely close..
8 hours doesn't matter in this case - it's simply programming speech-to-text and vice versa from the bot.
Actual interpretation and phone interaction is a completely different and much more difficult thing.

Best RSS app for the Nexus?

I'm loving my Galaxy Nexus thus far and am sure to be posting in these forums many times over the coming days (weeks, months, etc). I was hoping someone could recommend a good RSS app for me. I've always used an app called NewsRoom which I absolutely love but it seems the developer has pretty much abandoned it and it doesn't work well on ICS. The main thing I liked so much about NewsRoom was its ability to load all unread articles (and not just from one site/feed) in order from oldest to newest, and that it loaded full articles without having to follow a link to read the whole article. I could get all my news from all different places in the order it happened without having to leave ths app.
I've used NewsRoom for so long that I just can't get acclimated to any of the apps I've tried so far (unofficial greader, Pulse, currents) and was hoping for some suggestions. Thanks in advance!
i know NewsRob is a pretty popular one, but i always find myself going back to the official reader app from Google.
i would take some caution though, per some comments in reviews it seems that its a bit wonky with ICS and may not let the phone sleep properly.
EDIT: NewsRob has the sleep/ICS issues - Offical Google Reader is A-OK.
I use AtomaRSS myself and love the widgets. Easily synced with my Google Reader account and I pre-load all my articles so I can read them offline.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
I use google reader. I like the scrollable widgets of it also.
Same here Google reader! Just set it up to not sync automaticly and you're good to go!
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
Another vote for Google reader here! I haven't bothered to try any others but Google reader works perfectly for me.
Another vote for google reader here, although i have it set to sync automatically and am not seeing excessive battery drain, the stock widget and the APW Reader widget are both good, go with APW if you like transparent widgets.

I have mine set for automatic sync too and haven't seen any impact on battery either. I have two news widgets on my home screen. I love turning my phone on and being able to see news right there on the screen.
Personally, I'm a huge fan of Feedr. I've been using it for more than two years (starting with the Droid); it's the most customizable RSS reader I've seen, and it syncs with Google Reader.
I would use the official Google app if it wasn't lacking features, like a dark theme, title font options, or certain sorting features -- without needing a browser.
Here are some pics to give you an idea:

Another vote for google reader here.
Tryout BeyondPod
I have been using this since the Windows Mobile Days it not only will do RSS but Podcasts.
Google Reader is a very good free alternative too.
+1 for gReader
just in case anyone is wondering, Google Reader is DIFFERENT from gReader
I'm a bigger fan of gReader. My friend introduced me to it a while ago and have been using it ever since. Syncs perfectly with my RSS feeds, can do offline reading, and resizes pictures from the article to fit the screen nicely.
Give it a try

+1 for gReader. Also note that the paid version has a "dark" theme option which is better on the battery for the AMOLED screen.
I just tried Google Reader after all the recommendations on this thread (I use NewsRob in general) and I have to say that I'm surprised so many of you actually like it. It seems really jittery when scrolling through the listing of articles. I'm surprised that an app made by Google has such bad UI performance.
NewsRob is really really smooth. I'll go try gReader now.
Edit - gReader is also jittery when scrolling through the article list. I think the apps need to be updated for ICS. Newsrob is a lot smoother, and I know that the GN and ICS is capable of butter smooth scrolling.
I paid for Feedr and NewsRob, but got tired of them quickly. Been using gReader for a while now, and love it.
Nobody here uses Feedly? It has a few bugs, but the presentation of articles is nice - it syncs with Google Reader, so all your feeds are there
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.devhd.feedly
I'm not sure if this counts but I enjoy using Pulse.

yeah, that is a known issue from where it was originally pulled from.
also, my camera shortcut doesn't seem to work.
and, wasn't sure if this was only a HTC first thing or what, but i dont get a pop up notification (not the chat head things) for any notifications like Gmail or calendar. I remember seeing that in the presser, but think it might be a facebook home optimized device exclusive thing.
working pretty good on my phone. I am impressed with facebook's implementation here though.
if i didn't absolutely Despise facebook, i would probably use it. if there was a G+ home, i would probably be all over it.

maybe.....also, i uninstalled FB home app, and started using Nova again, and once in a while the FB home will pop up again....no feed or anything, but my face shows up, and i am able to access apps from within the FB home app. Very weird and screwey.
I like how the OP posting about a Facebook leak is using Tom's profile picture from MySpace as an avatar, lol.
Downloading now, but from the looks of it, it doesn't work anymore? Also can I install just the Facebook apk? No home launcher, etc?
yes, the FB app will work fine.
but looks like they killed the FB home feed functionality. TechCrunch reported on it. not surprising i guess.
I was still able to use the home screen and shortcuts and stuff, but no fee was in the background or anything...just a black screen.
OK never mind then. I'll just wait. Looks like it's going to available from Google play on the 12th.

That's not because I don't like it, the idea is nice. Probably it's just me.
I like the thing that with a simple swipe you can access your SMS/Facebook Messages, or main facebook app and the app drawer, but I'm missing many parts of my One X...
Widgets... that's android's pride. I need my widgets, like weather and news feed, and now I have to swipe up, open app drawer, scroll down to weather app to see if tomorrow is raining or not.
Long refreshing time... When I go back to facebook home after a while it needs 10-15 seconds to refresh news feed, and it's very annoying because it lags a lot in that moment, and can't do anything...
Btw, I love the new updates. Messenger app is nearly perfect now, I don't need to leave an app or a game to answer a text, and I love it :good:
Please let me know your opinions, I would like to see if you agree and will use Home as default Launcher or not, and why

Makes sense. But you dont have to download facetime from the app store. Its like 1 person out of 10 has this installed and theres no use of it when u have it and u try to video call ur friend or mom who has no idea what google duo is.
Now if they include that in Nougat, then its a different story.

This is what they should do if they want this to be the main facetime competitor
Tried it tonight with my wife worked well, better than Skype IMO. Very easy to use.

I downloaded the app but dont see the point of it. I can use skype, facebook, hangouts or any other app. What makes this different?

To me this is a negative, not a positive. It's the reason I don't use whatsapp. I flip sims whenever I travel so I want something that's got an account login, not registered to your number. I use hangouts as my main application. The only thing it doesn't have that I really wish it had was Push to Talk like whatsapp does.
Im really digging this Duo app. My girl and i have been using it quite frequently without issue. That was the only thing i liked about Apple phones and now we have our own version. While i understand not having everyone on board with it but for a small circle of people it's great.

I agree completely. It's super easy and works well. I'm sure it will get even better with time.

IMO it's better than these. With a low data connection where I tested it it was great.
