Bad Day, Chevron didn't work, 16-Banding issue, i am mad

I have a bad journey with my Schubert today...
I hate the crappy image displayed in 16-bit banding screen on mango 2 beta, so i tried to reload it back to 7004 from ANSAR rom.
But, strange, i found the 16-bit color banding right after i flashed my Schubert back to 7004.
I read a few articles about banding issue and tried to unlock my phone in normal way.
But not this time, Chevron Unlock didn't give a thing to me.
With the .cer installed, Zune Opened, Phone Unlocked the lock screen, no https running, it still showed me the messege that i should restart Zune or reconnect the phone. No luck.
Update to 7008 Pre-Nodo, problem still exits, and still can't unlock the phone in Chevron Way. (disabled Antivirus program but no luck)
I ran out of hope, and thought i would lose the unlock with mango beta anyway, so i tried to fix the 16-bit color banding issue by updating to 7392, which Zune claimed "HTC Update for Windows Phone" . I thought a new firmware will help solving the banding problem.
I was wrong.
Update 7392, no unlock, i tried my luck with Provision.exe to update to Mango Beta, but... guess what?
"Trying to unlock your phone in 55s.... can't unlock your phone...."
I was mad, almost threw my HD7 away. But i remember my first back up before i went to Mango for the first time (No-Do 7392, Unlocked, fully loaded with apps and videos/music = 10GB), i tried to restore and it took so long that i could't imagine. Accidently, i touched the cable and the phone lost connection to the PC and rebooted itself.
I tried the provision.exe again, and this time, it allowed me to provision my phone. Updating to Mango Beta 2 right now... And anyone who can provide me a way to solve the 16-bit banding problem in Mango, that would be sweet, or anyone can answer me why Chevron didn't do me a favor to unlock my phone in 7004... (i did it 4 times in the past with the same device.)

What version of Zune are you using? 4.8 beta wont work. I had a huge problem with installing Chevron after I re-locked and tried going back. I uninstalled Zune and in the thread " [Tutorial] Unlock your phone; prevent relock & prepare for updates!" I used the link in step 2 to download an older version of Zune and it worked just fine.

I have Facebook Add-in for my Live Account, and now i can't add it on my phone.
It always say that My facebook account need attention. I type in my password, and then it opened up m.facebook.com for me, which is stupid.

I rolled all the way back to 7004 and get all the lates official update. which should include the Firmware/Radio Update from HTC too...
But the problem here, i even see the 16-bit banding issue right from 7004 build.

rom updates and firemware updates are diffrent...
last hd7 firemware update changed the camera and hidden wifi i am not sure what else...

Yes, when i updated to 7392, Zune noticed me the update was "HTC update for Windows Phone".
A new No-Do version, which changed the radio version and something else that i don't know.

Pulling the data cable to update windows phone trick

This doesn't seem to work any longer for getting updates...did MS remove this work around where you connect your phone to your computer, start zune, click update and 2-3 seconds later you remove your data cable...?

Were you trying it for the 8107 update? I don't think the carriers have pushed it to phones yet, maybe Zune just can't find it at all. I think the trick will probably work once the update starts hitting other phones.

The carriers in Canada have not pushed anything since Mango but the data pulling trick worked to get the update after mango for my focus...
Pretty desparate to get the update now as the exchange email bug is driving me nuts, as is the keyboard issue. I just don't want to do a "cab" upgrade and screw something up as it's my work phone...
Now with the latest news on the MS blog that they will not force any updates any longer, I'm starting to think I'm going to be screwed eventually with bug fixes from MS...

If you have the Roger's version/ROM Focus then all the lang CAB's you need to update are available for download and you can just use the CAB sender tool to update your phone. I updated my att v1.3 Roger's ROM Focus just fine that way.

1 day impression is that battery life is way better
but internet sharing doesn't work.

Internet sharing is not working because of some DNS issue.
Try to use any one of the open DNS.
use Google DNA 8.8.8.8 and alternate 8.8.4.4.
This helps me to get the internet working with Internet connection sharing.

I have an American HTC Trophy from Verizon and I found out recently that the homos over at Verizon won't be pushing out these updates. How can I go about de-branding or tricking it into accepting the updates?

Looks Great. Although I would suggest that they are completly sorted by Country, then Carrier and then device I guess this is fine for a first version.
Maybe someone can add these changes later with the help of this forum.
Anyway, today I received 8107 but only after using the cable/network disconnect trick on my PC. Should I still mark it as delivering update?

As long as you haven't changed your branding or your ROM to a different carrier, then you can add that your carrier is delivering the update.

hi, what phone model ? Branded or unbrander ?
I have a titan unbranded, I have try the disconnect trick but it does not work :-(

Unbranded probably wont get the update as there is no one to request it for you! I think that is how it is. I've forced the update on my Titan and worked perfectly fine. Very simple steps. There is link etc in the Titan forum as well as here somewhere.

hi the trick is to disconnect the WiFi (1-2 sec) on the PC after click update,right?
btw, do you have the wifi or 3g on, in the phone?

You disconnect your PC from the Internet (in my case via network cable) shortly after you start searching for updates via Zune. I actually disconnected about 5 seconds after searching started, but you can try out what works for you.
I had WiFi enabled and cellular data connection disabled (no 3G and no EDGE), although I only disabled cellular data due to my prepaid flat expiring.

can confirm that unbranded/open market phones not get the 8107 update
omnia 7 -> no update availible in germany, even with cable trick, no chance.
dell venue pro -> no update avaible in germany, even with cable trick, no chance
both no carrier brandings.
I am pissed a lot about microsofts way to schedule udpates to the people, nobody knows where and why any update will arive and there are everywhere anoyiing bugs in wp (keyboard) -> user experience is an F

What does it mean, open phones no update??? no update now, or no update never ever?? Anyway, we pay more for a open phone, to get more updates and even sooner, and at the end, we are the last.

I think open phones now get the updates much easily! We only need one carrier to release update and then using cab sender it updates right away! I did that with my unbranded Titan and it only took 8-9 minutes from point A to point B!

there is currectly no update delivery, maybe in the future but if you see microsoft community manager any carrier has to request the update ... but theres no carrier for open market phones, whats the obvious? Open market phones dont receive this update ever and get it maybe with the next (tango?) update.

I think that is a dangerous method.. If you don't update all the language cabs..
You may not get next HTC update..

So open phones users, we are screwed or what? i got the 7740 update right away. but until now no theethering for example.

yes this is the actual situation, some unbranded phones may not become wlan tethering because it depends on carrier request and dont get the 8107 update (on the official way...with hacks you can have both but this is not the point why i choose windows phone)

I've got a Samsung Focus (originally a Rogers phone) unlocked and using on Bell Canada network.
I did the wifi disconnect trick and got the 7740 update...doesn't this mean Roger is delivering it?

for tethering you need OEM driver update it's not only OS depended

Samsung had the driver ready even before Mango started rolling out. In the official rollout drivers update was already softap implemented and working . I got some ROM that had older OEM drivers date than the Mango rollout and it was there too.
On the other hand, HTC was playing bad and didn't include it. No idea how LG and Dell...

i know...but if i use hack i can use internet sharing...if i dont, i am not able to use it
even on german telekom the omnia 7 users got internet sharing
i have german telekom sim but unbranded omnia 7 and dont got it
i know that the dell venue pro is not capable for this feature but omnia 7 was before mango!
When i look at 2 friends, one with branded telekom and one unbranded, both got internet sharing and no one can tell why my friend with unbranded got the update and i am not.
its not the lack of the feature, because i dont care about wlan tethering but who pushs the updates? Microsoft and they hold it back, a total inconsistents in the update process...like with 7740 as os update or even more worse the 8107 update
-> tested the cab sender and all seems to be fine for me but restored my backup because i want it on the official way and not this. I paid not only for the device, for the os, too! The update experience is just bull**** with wp, android doin it better because i can choose nexus phone (never thought i say this) and get every update immediatelly and apple do it the best way since now.
Looks like my next phone will be no windows phone, regardless that i like the system but i dont get what was promised and what i get.

The big issue here is how to confirm all this data.
Maybe some of the information is wrong.

I guess I'll try to keep the Sasktel (Canada) section current. I'm guessing there aren't too many Sasktel people on here with windows phones but I could be surprised.
Also +1 on being annoyed with this whole carrier requested updates.
At least we'll be able to come here to see what's officially available.

Force updating to Tango - a warning

A lot of people have seen the links on WPCentral and WMPowerUser for force updating to Tango using the cab sender method.
I've been posting in that thread since yesterday and I'm seeing countless people messing up their phones by (a) not using the cab sender tool to make a backup before sending the updates or (b) not installing the language packs with the update or not installing the correct language packs.
The other thing people should be aware of is that for some people the update is removing INTEROP unlock. If you have a very recent Samsung firmware there may be no way to unlock again.
Tango adds very few features. Location awareness icon is not there. Export to SIM only appears to be there for a select few. Unless MMS is something that your life depends on, wait until more work can be done by the developer community analyzing what effects the 8112 and 8773 updates have on all the different phones & variations (carrier/unbranded) thereof.
EDIT: One user with a Dell Venue Pro has most probably irreversibly bricked his phone by applying the update.

Worked for me. Needed two updates. The second one was 8773, then I received Nokia firmware.

i don't understand how those steps are able to work. if the wlan connection is killed while zune is searching for an update it returns a 'can't check for updates right now' error.

If you do it the right timing, it will stop the checking of the phone carrier etc. So thats something like
Connect to server > Check Atual Version > Check Last Version Available > Check if allowed to update > Update
When you kill the wlan, you are supposed to it exactly in the part that check if you are allowed to update. When it doesnt receive a response from server, it just update. Basically, you jump one step.
And it works perfectly. I've done this with Mango, now I done this with Tango too. Believe, it's not troll.
Another method is to count how much time it takes to answer you that your software is up to date. And then take 1-3 seconds off. That's when you have to disconnect. So you keep trying alternating the time you disconnect your pc.

WP 8 is going to have OTA update. And a rumour that 7.8 too (I dont know what for. Will MS release updates after 7.8 to 1st and 2nd generation?). But I think the Kernel CE is the one to blame here. Its not a big problem for me. You will have like 2~3 updates in one year. That gives one update every 4 months or 6 months. I dont mind connecting my WP to computer.

on what carrier are you?

It worked for my carrier unlocked Samsung Focus.
At first I installed the OS updates (4), then I tried to install the 5 lenguages that my phone needed but an error prevented that, so after I tried to install only my main lenguage and it worked!
I agree, it's not really worth it, I use the MMS feature, but this cab update method it's not very stable in all phones.

I finally couldn't take the disappearing keyboard issue on my HTC HD7s. As far as I read, AT&Crap had no intention of providing that update, or Tango for that matter. I followed the steps for the cab loading updates and they worked fine. Haven't noticed any adverse effects for the past few days. Now I just bide my time until my contract ends so I can grab whatever decent WP8 phones that come out.

We've been doing force update thing from the Mango days. It's a easy process *IF* people follow the directions. It does work but, you must have the correct language packs/files to install with it.
It also could remove your Unlock.
If you READ THE DIRECTIONS and RE-READ THE DIRECTIONS, then FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS you should be fine.
It's people who are in a rush who brick or screw up their phone.

I read a few comments on wpcentral that AT&T people with devices such as the Focus Flash have received the update through regular means/disconnecting from network while updating method.

On My Lg it went smooth... i see sms picture, video that i can attach, but i have ringtone in place of voicenotes ??

So is there any confirmation that people are able to do the Tango update on the Lumia 900 on at&t via the disconnect internet trick? I've tried a couple of times and been unsuccessful. I don't want to waste my time continuing if it won't work.

After several attempts finally got the prompt for update OS to 7.10.8112 however the update was unsuccessful!! Did it 2nd time but again the update was unsuccessful???
Not sure why it's doing this? If I cannot update to 7.10.8112 then I cannot update to Tango 7.10.8773.98
Has anyone else experienced this on unlocked European Titan? If it helps I'm currently on OS version 7.10.8107.79 and with Bootloader version 2.6

Have enough space on my laptop more then 50g and have around 5.95gb of free space on my handset.
Yes there was a error code displayed but remember what it was? I'll try again tonight after work and post here with the error code.

I followed cab sender method, which seemed to work fine. However, I also do not have Voice Note, instead I have Ringtone.
Any ideas? How do we enable Voice MMS? Is it a Carrier-restricted aspect?

[Q] New Nokia Lumia 900 Continually Crashes When WiFi is On

Hi there
Wondering if any of you kind folks can help me understand what is happening on my phone.
I've a new Nokia Lumia 900 which I've had for about 2 weeks. Unfortunately (rather fortunately!) I won it at a Microsoft event, so I can't exactly take it back to a retailer for repair or question.
My phone seems to intermittently crash. Most times it just reboots but occasionally it's just dead and I have hold down the power button to reset. Anecdotally it seems to happen most when I have WiFi turned on, though it does happen occasionally without WiFi on.
I have reset back to factory setting twice and also turned off all background process I can. Of course there are still a few applications that I can't turn off from running in the background.
Despite this, the phone still crashes A LOT with WiFi on (2 to 6 times a day) and occasionally with WiFi off (once every 2 or three days).
Does anyone know what is happening and how I can find a fix?
PS: Both the phone and Zune report that there are no updates applicable.

Look in settings/about and take note of the Firmware and OS versions and kindly write them down on here, If you have OS ver 8862 then you already have the latest version and need to take your phone to a Nokia Care centre or send for repair as it should not crash at all, If you have a lower ver ie: 8107, 8773 or 8858 then maybe you can force an update through Zune, Which may well fix your issue?

I did exactly that, checked the OS version, and I discovered that I did NOT have the latest OS version but Zune reported I did.
As a result I contacted Nokia to explain the difference in OS version availability published on the Australian support site vs the fact that Zune reports the OS version is up to date. I was told that not all OS versions are available across all Lumia 900 phones and regions! Er... Whatever...
However, the support staff did recognise I'm having an issue and has lodged a ticket with the "appropriate department". Time will tell how response they are.
I guess I either have to wait for the OS update to be made available to have their support technicians contact me back to resolve the issue.
Either way I will update this thread with the results in case anyone else has a similar issue.

Ha! Yes.... Well I've not heard anything from them yet. Day 2 so I'm not quite bored yet
However, on a positive note the updates came through tonight via Zune without pulling of LAN cables (ED: read hair), so all's good on that front. Time will tell if the updates solve the problem, but it did 3 cumulative updates so I guess there was a bit to do...
