Can't post the link, sorry!
link: http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/1...te-update-over-wi-fi-only-shortcuts-and-more/
Installed this earlier today. Seems to be working good so far. I like the Auto update option over wifi setting. It also seems to be more responsive than the 3.2 that I have been using.
Sweet, my biggest annoyance with the market was how I could only chose between auto-updating and possibly wasting my data plan (minor I know but I don't NEED the facebook update instantly) and having to manually do it. Love how MIUI has the option.

mine is working good to on MIUI I wonder how much earlier did we actually get this update from other people who will get it from their carriers?
After installing this, I started getting "popup" ads in my status bar. After uninstalling they went away.
Did I miss a setting or something? Lookout scan shows no threat, but I can only assume it was this market given the evidence...
can someone enlighten me on how to install this blasted thing?

You should be able to navigate to it in a file explorer (like rootexplorer) and just click on it to install.
Yeah I figured it out. Search-fu is lazy today lol.

I've had my 8 for several months but now it's starting to slow down. I have done everything except a factory reset (because thats just a pain in the ass) but it is still slow. Short of the reset does anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

I assume your battery drain is normal, or has not changed since the slowness has happened.
You have not stated if you rooted or custom ROM has been installed.
I found a few apps will do this time to time... depending on when they update. I always monitor my apps so troubling apps are always reverted back to their previous version.
You can use security 360 to monitor your tablet... It is a very good antivirus with some nice built in features. One is memory speed up and usage.
Basically it lets you know what apps are running in background, and releases them to speed up the tablet. I like it because it is like having 3 or 4 apps all into one and does not hog memory.
You can search the Q&A for battery drain if you have issues with battery as well ... there are many threads, so at least one will help. The lengthy threads have some good info near the end... as I try to help using simple methods that work with stock ROMs.

If not rooted, do so and you can eliminate apps that you don't use and that suck up RAM. You can as well move programs to an SD Card to increase the memory available.
Additionally, rooted or not you can go in and clean out the cache of all your apps. They build up over time.

Went to Best Buy and talked to the Samsung rep and he had the answer! First, get rid of SPB launcher then use Clean Sweep (in the store) to get rid of bloatware. Fast as Hell now! App only works on non-rooted I think. But it DOES work! Thanks for the help!

SPB launcher??? It must have been rooted. I have a mostly stock ROM... never had speed issues, but it is all in the choice of apps I install.
Given that many apps are developer driven, and from my experience with developers here on the forum, makes me cautious about installing apps. I install only what I need and does the job cleanly. Sometimes the best apps are buggy when being updated to run 4.4.x, as I seen that a lot since Xmas. Though May has been a good start for the year... many apps have been sorted out, but still iffy as there are thousands of apps to choose from.
I places a thread, and an answer to battery, and apps disabling in a simple and minimalistic method. If anyone is interested, they can search for posts by me... they are within this year.

You should not have needed to uninstall SPB unless you already had a whole bunch of apps. I have 200+ Apps with no issues.
Also Clean Sweep is a nice app, but you can do this already without the added app. Open you Google search, look at the bottom left hand tab, open it and you can do the same thing.

Nope. Not rooted and the launcher worked fine but apparently it slowed the system down. Now it's smokin'.
I am downloading an AT&T OTA right now. It is reported to be the NK3 update. So far no details, but it is bigger than the other updates being reported by other carriers, but it could be a combination of other updates.
It is showing as 223.71 MB
My Note 4 is a true AT&T phone, not an international or T-Mo version.
More as I get it, but its DL'ing kinda slow. (might be the netflix movie I am watching on another device on my network..oops!)

Yeah please post update if you find out what exactly is included in that OTA
Picking up speed now that my movie has paused
Note... I had to change the date in my settings to trigger the update. I checked for an update late yesterday, and it only lets you try once every 24 hours.
Its installing now... it seems to stick a few times (55% seemed to be there forever) but it is moving on. Looks like about 5+ minutes of install time after download.

Did the OTA just showed on your screen or did you manually look for updates? I hope it shows some sort of changelog, can't find anything online about it so far...

I had seen a possible update from a forum post on another site. ... so I forced the check for update.
It just finished and there is no change log associated with it. I'll keep playing with it and let you know what I find. The recent apps button seems slightly faster, but I might be imagining it.
Other updates (the international devices) have indicated battery performance improvements, and reduced lag on the recent apps button. Not sure what else. But those updates were smaller in size even combined.
Just got and installed the update...unfortunately no change log of any sort. Phone seems a bit more responsive after bit otherwise no changes I have noticed yet.
Also included the gear vr software
With these updates in the works someone should be uploading new stock images and associated files, no? There may be some exploit for root introduced that was not present in the earlier version.

And I know they're just coming in, just something to keep in mind. Someone with more skill/experience may want to chime in.
Stumbled on a app DSMLawmo that I hadn't seen before... or maybe it was there and I missed it.
But also the Gear VR Apps are now installed... I KNOW they are new.
IMS Settings and IMSLogger+... are these new. They look it.
(those apps are not in the app drawer, but under the app manager "all" tab)
In addition there is an option to backup your SMS's on AT&T's cloud .. is that new? Or am I looking too hard.
Did we have evernote installed before? It looks like it is baked in as bloatware now.
I really hope this is going to fix my horrible battery life...
"horrible battery life" is a matter of opinion and circumstances. It might make it better, but it can't fix things that it isn't causing.

DSMLawmo is on my AT&T Note 4, update is currently downloading too. I don't see IMS Settings or IMSLogger+, so those are new for sure.
No option to back up SMS's.
Don't remember about Evernote, I use it anyways so it may have either been installed by default or my Google account pulled it down.

You can no longer uninstall Evernote... so its baked in now.
I find myself reaching for the recent apps button now.... that was a quickly formed habit... and using it to flip back to an app I was using. Right now I am playing candy crush (sorry, I'm weak) and checking gmail, skypeing with my wife at work; all with a flip of the recent apps button.
Just installed it! The only difference I've seen is that Evernote is there and I can't uninstall it or disable it... I don't see any other apps, settings, etc

Also so you know, if you hold that button the menu key will work. Pretty handy for non updated apps that don't have the 3 dots.

I know... bu there was too much of a delay before the update. I am more pleased now, but hopefully they bring it in a bit more in lollipop.
Edit... I am beginning to even forget there was any lag.... It is now very usable.
Recents key is hella faster now.
That was my only gripe...that delay. Checking for update now.
....and downloading. NIICE!
Wtf...as it downloads I'm noticing the recent is faster already. Damn you brain...

Hi developers!
Since the OOS 3.2.2 update, systemless root is now failing to pass googled safetynet checks, meaning Android pay no longer works :/ if I roll back to 3.2.1 then it works fine. I'm using the safetynet helped app from the play store to test this. I wondered if any developers or knowledgeable people would know if this is a change in the rom causing this, or just a SuperSU incompatibility?
OOS 3.2.2 validates with no root. I just flash SuperSU when needed and then unroot when finished. (TWRP as recovery) Some of my banking apps will not work with root installed.
Google made server side change that somehow now detects systemless root around 25th July.

It's working for you on 3.2.1.? It stopped working for me on that version just prior to 3.2.2. coming out.
Google made changes sever side to prevent it from working. IT is getting to the point of having to pick. Root or android pay. We all knew this was coming.

If it was done server side there will be no work around. Plus with the new security measures in the linux kernel (XDA portal post) Things like this will be even harder if not impossible.

I am in the US. It is available in most places just not in my town. After it was proven that it could be intercepted and the fact that stores are making their own alt to the pay apps, they decided to just block them.Even my Credit union has removed the chip from their cards due security concerns.
Like I said even if it was I still wouldnt use it. I am smarter then keeping things like my credit card info stored on a device that is always sending data everywhere. Mainly when you think about the fact that keyboards can record every keystroke.
Also I have to keep my ID on me at all times so it is just faster to take my card out and hand it to the cashier.

It's only stealable (like with card skimming) whilst the screen is on, at least on a phone. I have a card that I transfer money too whenever I use it (its actually my PayPal card) so I don't have too much of a risk there. They have done a few things like that over here in the UK too but I'm still cautious about it. I have a few measures in place to prevent some of that

Thats all it really takes. When checked they found that the majority of the card readers had some sort of extra device installed on it. Like I said it is not a big deal for me as I wouldn't use it if it was available.
I was using systemless root for a while, it passed system checks just fine. But the funs over now, they've patched it. :/
Is the beta rootable thru the usual method? Or did I need to download a beta or canary version of Magisk?
Rooted the beta thru canary version of Magisk. The beta is definitely not a daily driver at this point. Almost all Google apps won't stay open. They just close, even in safe mode. Also, getting lots of random reboots.
Edit: Removing canary magisk has caused most of the issues I was experiencing to stop.
Yeah, get rid of that app or keep that app and use mirror versions of the Google Apps and manually update those as they come available. Google Play once it detects any one app on a huge list of "risky" apps Google will shut it down for "security " reasons, they have been known to blacklist accounts and or devices and completely wash any account attached to it for violation of "their piss poor security provisions") not sure how that's legal and it's completely b.s but whatever. There are all kinds of ways around it, it all boils down to, knowing what your doing, what to look for and basically manipulating the Google Apps or play store, it's really about how important is it to ya, because all the work around are time consuming and a pain in the ass at best, hope that helps?

I've been rooting my phones since I first got a Razr. I have never had an issue with Google's security. My guess is since we have to use a canary version of Magisk, it has got some bugs that need to be squashed
A majority of the issues is Google, it started around the first of the year, they are playing I'm your daddy and you will comply games. Samsung is getting ready at some point in the future to wash their hands of Google/Android and do their own thing over it and other issues. Google has gotten to big for their pee pants and all of us have started feeling the backlash of Google and their big daddy fight

Using beta Android and rooted it using the canary method. It's behaving pretty stable. On the first beta my phone was crashing and bootlooping (at lockscreen) as I had enabled the media resumption feature. But I was able to disable it from safe mode. But since beta 1.5 (June 17 update) it's working fine too.
Only issue I'm seeing (not necessarily to this update) I'm unable to have more than 2-3 apps in memory. They reload everytime. I guess 4Gb ram is too less

Just simply go under settings to "Network & Internet --> Advanced (Or "More Connection Settings" on other phones) --> Select Private DNS mode --> Private DNS Provider Hostname --> type the following: dns.adguard.com and hit save. You are done! Now you have system-wide Ad blocking on all apps. It's that simple. No need for root or anything else. I've tried this on my Note 10 + 5G and my Pixel 3 XL and it works like a charm.

I had already added adguard in the private dns settings. While it does block ads, using energized pro with root is much more effective at blocking ads.
I did a clean install of Android 11 Beta and rooted again thru canary Magisk. Same issues with Google apps closing or acting sluggish. I decided to turn on Magiskhide for all things google and that fixed the issue. Looks like Google is clamping down harder on Magisk users

It's Android 11 working ok for "daily driver"? my concern it's for my banking apps my country has really really bad devs, and take like 10 months to fix stuff hahaha but it's reliable for a daily driver? i don't mind random crash times to times, and i guess is a "small" upgrade from android 10, I will wait next month the next beta

It's great for me. Signal strength took a bit of a hit, but otherwise no real issues that I can see.
For what it's worth to anyone wanting to try the beta 2 root, it doesn't work. After fastboot flashing the canary magisk (app-debug.apk) the digitizer stops working on boot. I'm guessing topjohnwu removed the other apk for that reason, but save yourself the effort until he gets the other apk out.
Edit: I was able to get past the "beta warning" popup, by plugging in a mouse, but outside of that workaround, the digitizer still doesn't work. Root DID take, but only with the digitizer caveat.
